Missing Sync and my Treo 700wx

I have read through these forums many times and found them very helpful. I thought that I would post this in order to try to help others who are struggling to make their phones talk to their computers via bluetooth.
I had, up until recently, been using the USB sync cable that came with my phone along with Missing Sync. This worked flawlessly with the latest version of both MS and OSX. The problem? I...uh...got a little bit of chocolate in the connector at the bottom of my phone. Now my connection is patchy at best.
So I have been using the Bluetooth connection instead.
In order to get my phone to connect to my computer I:
1) Enabled the Bluetooth on both my computer and my phone. On the phone I made my device "discoverable"
2) Initiated a connection from my Macbook and paired the devices. (Be sure to use the "Symbol Lock", or just push the black square button each time you need a number, otherwise the phone will type letters instead of the numbers that your Macbook made up for the pairing code)
3) Went through the connection screens...
Once the phone was connected, the trick was getting the phone to allow Missing Sync to talk to it. I figured out that my ActiveSync, which I also have connecting to my work server to sync my email and contacts, was set to use my phone connection. While this is good in general, it interfered with my Bluetooth connection. I told ActiveSync to use Bluetooth to sync everything. Then I hit the Sync option on my phone.
Missing Sync began to start up and whala! Connected. I was then able to Mount the phone and browse the folders, etc. I can send files, music, anything I want to my phone now.
I hope this helps someone else.
+When you are finished syncing, be sure to turn off your Bluetooth. Otherwise your battery on your phone will not last long.+

What service do you have? I have Sprint. I don't know if that matters at all, but I am still unable to connect. I have gone through everything a few times and it connects for a few seconds to ask me to check which services I want to use. The only option I ever get is to use my phone to connect to the internet through my phone's data connection. Even when I select that, my mac never stays connected. Any thoughts? Is there some service/update I need to download and install from Palm?
The two devices always pair successfully but will never stay connected for me to open and even try to use missing sync.
Thanks for the help!

  • Ical, Missing Sync and Palm Treo 680

Most of 2007 was spent trying to get my Palm Lifedrive to Sync with iCal using Missing Sync version 5 thru 6. One day it was fine six days it was not. Nothing I have found to be more infuriating and frustrating as trying to sync my Palm with my Computer.
So, with the arrival of Leopard and the much promised improvements to Sync Services I decided to perform a Clean Install of Leopard on my Powerbook, and run just a few apps on my Powerbook leaving the rest on my new Mini Mac. At the same time I decided to upgrade my Palm Lifedrive to a Palm Treo 680. So, New OS, New Palm, Leopard ready Missing Sync.
1st Sync was spot on. All my data downloaded from .Mac for iCal and AB, sync'ed wonderfully with my Palm Treo. That was on January 7th. Since then iCal absolutely refuses to refresh. And already I am beginning to feel that 2008 and Syncing will be as frustrating as 2007.
Why cannot MarkSpace sit down with Apple and iron out all the crap. For the last couple of days I though I would see if iCal was not communicating with SyncServices by using Entourage. But this only synced with AB and did not touch iCal. To do this I had to use iSync and during the first sync only 144 of 1456 addresses were left on my Palm! iCal - no change!!
So I dumped iSync/Entourage and went back to Missing Sync own Conduits. I got my AB entries back but absolutely nothing from iCal
When I wiped my Powerbook, I cloned the hardrive. Whilst routing around, I found a folder called FileServices in ~libray. This folder was over 12gig in size. What is this folder for and why was it so big? This could explain why my Backup Sets were getting increasing larger than my actual Hardrive even though I was peforming just a daily incremental backup!
Back to iCal. Is there any reason why iCal will not refresh after a so called successful sync with my Treo 680 via Missing Sync v6.0.2?

You might have better luck getting support at Mark/Space the makers of the program. http://support.markspace.com
I did briefly look around there and found this article, not sure if its related to your issue or not.

  • Internet/e-mail with Missing Sync and WM5

    Hi,
Can anybody tell me if I would be able to use the Missing Sync with a WM5 device (XDA Mini S) to connect to the internet and download e-mail.
I don't want to stump up for it if it does not.
    Cheers

    Complicated two-part answer:
Part 1: The current release of the Missing Sync for Windows Mobile does not support Windows Mobile 5 devices like your XDA Mini S, but an early release alpha package—available for use only by registered users of the current release version—does support such devices.
Part 2: Because your XDA Mini S is a Pocket PC device—as opposed to a smartphone—the final release version of the Missing Sync for Windows Mobile will support sending and receiving electronic mail, and surfing the web. This feature will not be supported on Windows Mobile-based smartphones.

  • ISync Failure working with Missing Sync and Palm Lifedrive

Since the begining of March I have failed to peform a sync between my Palm and G4 Powerbook via Missing Sync v5.2.1
What happens is that a Sync is launched from my Palm cradle which is picked up by my G4, the dialogie suggests that things are being synchronised, but at the end on viewing my Sync History, I get errors reporting that databases on my palm can't be opened. Missing Syncs own conduits for iCal and AB report that they have been 'unregistered'.
Last night I attempted a sync with just 1 conduit active at a time and all failed.
I bought BackUpBuddy, but this two has failed to sync.
Markspace have suggested that I 'reset sync histories' which I have attempted to do. For this I need to open iSync first, however iSync quits during launch.
Anybody got any ideas on how to resolve this? TIA

Now that the response is reposted above, this thread makes more sense…
The (0x400a) errors generally, coupled with an inability to open files on your handheld, suggests that you have insufficient memory on board to perform these tasks. There are several other issues involved, however, so you should address each one by simplifying your configuration to avoid the most obvious ones.
For the time being, turn off the following conduits which do not report errors:
    • Install
    • Life Balance
    • Mark/Space Conduit for iTunes
    • Mark/Space Conduit for iTunes
    • ChronosNotes
    • BackupBuddy
Do that simply by un-checking them in the main window of the Missing Sync for Palm OS. You might want to attempt once again to synchronize, just to determine if anything has changed as a result of turning off these working conduits.
Also, turn off the following failing conduits:
    • Mark/Space Folder Sync
    • Voice Memo
    • Documents To Go*
    • Media
    • Trip
Some may be incompatible with your your LifeDrive, or not properly configured for use with it. See the article below, for example, with regard to the Mark/Space Folder Sync conduit with it:
    http://www.markspace.com/support/kb.php?x=&mod_id=2&id=2553
To avoid some obvious problems with your LifeDrive and the conduits presently installed, you should install the LifeDrive Update 2.0 is you have not already done so. *Among other things, it contains a Documents to Go update:
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/lifedrive/lifedrive_update.html
You must follow the instructions provided by Palm carefully, as the procedure removes all of the data from your device. Insure that your data is backed up elsewhere before performing this update.
Before attempting to update your LifeDrive, follow these instructions to determine if you need to:
Find out if your LifeDrive device includes the latest LifeDrive Update software
    • on your LifeDrive, press <Home> twice, until the Applications Launcher—not Favorites—appears
    • tap <Menu>
    • from the <App> menu, select <Info>
    • at the bottom of the screen, select <Version>
Look for the application named WiFiLib [HINT: scroll down below the <Wi-Fi> items to <WiFi> with no hyphen.]
    If the version number is…
    • 1.0.6, 1.0.5 or below: you don't have the latest LifeDrive update. Install it
    • 1.0.7: you already have the latest LifeDrive Update. Do not install it again.
Had you not needed to install this update and perform the resulting reset, I would have recommended that you perform a soft reset to see if that procedure resolves any of your issues.

  • Missing Sync vs. PocketMac For Synchronizing Data between Blackberry and MAC

I'm looking for software to synchronize contacts, events, appointments, notes, tasks, etc., between my Blackberry Curve (8330 Series) and my iMac (MAC OS X 10.5.5).  I've investigated Missing Sync and it certainly would work.  Today I was advised that PocketMac will accomplish the same thing.  So, I'm looking for a recommendation on the advantages/disadvantages of either or both packages.

  • Tungsten T5 iSync, HotSync, Missing Sync for iCal, Mail and Address Book

I have just been given an old Palm Tungsten T5 and have been looking at the various options available to make it do what I need with regard to syncing it with my G5 PPC iMac with 10.4.11.
I use the T5 only when I am away (from the iMac) and travelling and would like a set- up that allows me to sync, in this order of priority:
iCal, including annual events such as birthdays, and differently colour-coded calendars and, if possible, to dos although these are less important
    Mail
Address Book, in which I really only have e-mail addresses
According to some old threads on the subject, Missing Sync appears to be the program of choice for syncing iCal and Address Book, but not Mail. Instead there appears to be something called Mail.App Conduit 2.0.1 requiring at least Palm Desktop 4, and presumably HotSync.
Is there a single program that will sync all three of these Mac applications effectively? If not, am I going to have to (buy and install and then) uninstall Missing Sync and Palm Desktop (or HotsSync) alternately?
    Is iSync a real option?
Or is there some clever way of using one or more programs to start with and then switch over to just one?
I would be grateful for any advice as to how to deal with this. Thank you.
    Nick

I don't know if you can do this with the Centro. I should have mention that I was talking about webOS (Pre and Pixi). To sync with webOS you need Mac OS 10.5 or later for iCal, and 10.6 for Address Book.

  • The Missing Sync for Palm OS v6.0.4 won't run with my Palm Tungsten E2

Having problems with Palm iSync on My iBook with 10.4.11 I bought The Missing Sync.
I removed Palm Desktop and installed Missing Sync. However sync won't start when I press the HotSync button.
Is my Palm Tungsten E2, running Palm OS Garnet v. 3.1.1 too old?
If so, can I upgrade it?
    Post relates to: Tungsten E2
    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

No, there is nothing published - that I am aware of - other than the Missing Sync User Guide that you received [as portable document format file] when you purchased the Missing Sync for Palm OS.
There is some developer documentation available from Apple, but it has little direct bearing on anything like the issue you are seeing. Your crash logs should have provided an indication of what was going on, and - using them - Mark/Space should have been able to identify your issue pretty easily.
It's very difficult to troubleshoot unusual issues remotely. Common problems - which can be easily identified - are readily corrected just by following the instructions posted by some knowledgable person here in the Apple Discussions forums. Given the unique circumstances you report of total failure following the installation of the Missing Sync, it's very likely that the actual culprit in your configuration is NOT the Palm desktop, iSync, .Mac Sync, the Missing Sync for Palm OS or your Treo 600. Something unique about your configuration is likely responsible. Trying to eliminate the variables, though, is not an easy task.
One relatively easy way to troubleshoot such issues is to create a new user, reinstall the Missing Sync and attempt to synchronize using that new user account. If that process is successful, you'll immediately know that something involving your existing user account is responsible for the issue.

  • Dilemma: missing sync or e2sync?

i have googled and searched in apple discussions, i havent found good answers yet. (or perhaps i failed to find the right thread, sorry.)
Basically, I want to synchronize (seamlessly!) my treo 650, entourage, iCal, and addressbook.
I am using the sync update of entourage but i am disappointed by how my treo650 syncs with entourage. I would lose phone number/s and calendar events on my treo. All my Treo calendar events (except for birthdays) would not even "upload" into iCal and entourage.
I don't know what's the difference or advantage of missing sync and e2sync over each other. E2sync is designed to sync entourage and iCal and addressbook and devices. But i guess, this can also be done by missing sync? Missing sync seems to have better reviews than e2sync (my impression). But i am not sure whether missing sync can seamlessly sync entourage.
Which one really would give me no headache?

I am personally a fan of missing sync, when it comes to palm based devices (Do I recall right, when it comes to treo, that it is palm based?). Been using it since over a year to sync my Apple suite with my palm. This is my first choice for syncing a palm based device, rendering a lot more choices, option and better integration than Apple's Palm conduit. With Missing sync there are only in my opinin minor aspects to be taken care of while syncing these two different platforms.
Aside from Michael's suggestion you might want to take a look at:
    http://www.pocketmac.net/products/gobetween/indexg.html
It puts Entourage as a "device" into the devices to be synced by iSync, incorporting it into these syncing features.
It's been two years that I last used it (I do not use Entourage anymore since). At that time, it worked well, with a few shortcomings regarding the then more profound choices of using multiple addresses etc. in the Mac apps compared to Entourage.
At the time I found there was more care to be taken of how to enter data in Entourage and the Mac apps than with Missing Sync / Palm. Fields in both sets of program (e.g. Entourage Address Book) did not comply as well.
There have been a couple of upgrade notices since, which I did not make use of, but they seem to have improved quite a bit. So, if I had to go back to Entourage, I would do it with a combination of Pocketmac and Missing Sync.

  • Palm Tree 755p + iSync/Missing Sync for Palm/iSync Conduit 1.2

I'm lost! Being stuck with a new Palm Treo 755p instead of the iPhone until my contract runs out. How do I get my Treo to sync with my Mac? There's iSync, iSync Conduit 1.2 and even Missing Sync for Palm. I'm willing to pay anything just to get things to sync with the Treo & iBook. But, after reading anything and everything I can find even on Discussions ... I'm more confused than ever.
Can anyone tell me what the real difference is between Missing Sync for Palm vs. iSync & iSync Conduit 1.2?
If I had that rebate check from uncle Sam maybe I'd go out and pay off Sprint to get out of my 2 year contract and then buy an iPhone, LOL. Oh, that's right we don't get the check until summer
    Any help is appreciated.

OK, I finally broke down and purchased "Missing Sync," after waiting for Apple to fix this problem. I'm sorry to say that "Missing Sync" does NOT solve this issue completely. It will sync the Address book, but will NOT work with iCal.
Apparently, "Mark/Space" (the makers of "Missing Sync") are aware of the problems, have identified the problem as Apple's, and reported it to Apple. Here are some of the issues noted on the "Mark/Space" web-page...
"This article describes situations under which The Missing Sync may report errors or perfomance issues. One error message is specific to iCal (part of Apple's Mac OS X operating system) and describes errors from iCal that are affecting the ability of The Missing Sync from performing sync functions properly."
"In certain situations, The Missing Sync reports an error message titled 'iCal Sync Errors'. This error is often caused when iCal is attempting to share data with Sync Services. Although this error has little to do with handheld devices, it affects the ability to sync data to or from those devices as Sync Services functions are compromised."
"THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED TO APPLE, INC. BY MARK/SPACE."
"Errors that are not reported in The Missing Sync log may be found in the Console.log file."
"Here are some of the error messages you may see in the Console:
    iSDSqliteRecordMapper
    SQLite locking issue
    iSynceConcreteSession
    NSInvalidArgumentException
    ICalExternalSync
    ISyncInvalidRecordException
These error are generated by Sync Services and reported to The Missing Sync."
So, for those of you hoping that "Missing Sync" will solve the problems we are having with various hand-helds, and/or cell phones, it doesn't completely. I am a huge fan of Mark/Space's "The Missing Sync" and have used it many times throughout the years. It's a great piece of software that does a whole lot more than iSync ever has, but it does NOT solve all of the problems that are being reported all over this forum in regards to iSync issues and hand-helds/cell phones.

  • USB connection problem for Missing Sync

Hi. I just downloaded Missing Sync and can't get the first sync completed. the program keeps accessing bluetooth and then says first sync has to be USB. • Problems syncing SDA using Missing Sync; Mark/Space support is unhelpful...

I've had a nightmare of a time trying to get my TMobile SDA (smartphone running Windows Mobile 5) to sync using bluetooth (or even the USB!!!) with my MBP.
    Can anyone help me?
The crazy thing is that it worked the first time I tried, and then once again in the million attempts I've made, but it won't work anymore, ie the phone and computer say that they're paired but then the phone says "use a computer with Active Sync installed" and the Missing Sync s/w does NOT register or otherwise acknowledge that my phone exists, is hooked up and syncable.
This is REALLY frustrating, esp since it won't even work with the USB connection!!
any suggestions or tales of great success with Missing Sync and the SDA??

    MacPro 2x2.66 // MacBookPro 2.16   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   T-Mobile SDA with Windows Mobile/ Missing Sync 3.something

I have Missing Sync working fine with my Cingular Blackjack, which is a WM5 Smartphone based system. There is much written up on this at the Mark Space forums - the major reason why people are having problems is that the phone radio (aka flight mode) must be turned off prior to syncing. This has caused many problems and once you get in this habit, it works reliably every time. The folks at Mark Space are well aware of this and are working on a fix in the future using a different protocol that would alleviate this issue.

  • 9 of 12 iPads Sync and Update

I have a set of 12 iPads (all linked to one Apple ID) in my elementary classroom and am becoming frustrated by the fact that 3 of them are not able to download new apps or update old ones. I recently updated them to iOS7 but that hasn't made a difference. I have tried a different network connection, connecting them to iTunes, and resetting them completely but that hasn't helped. When I go into the App Store, I can see all my "Purchased" Apps but when I click the download button, it looks like its going to start downloading but then stops and says "Unable to Download Item". Does anyone know how to resolve this problem?

Update: I've managed to get around the sync problems, have synced add book and iCal. Haven't tried notes and tasks, am hopeful it will work. However, updates still don't work! It goes to download 600+ files, and then the same error message still appears. Can anyone help? Hopefully someone from RIM!
As well, when un-installing BDTM-Mac, does anyone else get the same problem of getting a dialog box that says that uninstall was unsuccessful and that certain components could not be deleted?
As a sidenote, just to give your (emilianne) idea a shot, I re-installed missing sync and pocket mac, then used app zapper. Seems like I'm more thorough than the app. =\ Now I still get that dialog box from BDTM-Mac installer that says prior versions of syncing software were found. Geez. Previously when I did a manual wipe, didn't have that problem. Oh well... not a BB issue so not important.

  • Palm Treo 700wx sync with Palm Desktop

Newbie here, so please excuse if this is already in here somewhere!  I've been using Palm Desktop (v4.0.1) syncing with a Sony handheld device (Clie).  The Clie died, and I purchased a used Palm Treo 700wx (Sprint) for both cell phone use and as a PDA.  Darn if I can find anywhere how to sync the Palm Desktop with the Treo 700wx.  Am I missing something somewhere?

Hello melemiller and welcome to the Palm forums.
The Treo 700wx, running the Windows Mobile operating system, can only sync to Microsoft Outlook.  You will need export the data out of the Sony edition of Palm Desktop and import it into Outlook and then install the Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 software on your computer to sync the Treo to Outlook.  If you are using Windows Vista, you need to use the Windows Mobile Device Center that is included as part of Vista to sync with Outlook.
