Missing Sync for Entourage 2008 or I Cal?

There are well known issues when using Entourage 2008 as the default calendar. Missing Sync has a work around that links Entourage to ICal, however, this is not a stable fix, and rarely works all the time. So the question is: Should I default to ICal as the primary calendar and forget Entourage's calendar function for syncing events while using Missing Sync?

Were you able to find a solution to your problem? I use Entourage as the default calendar and used ICal Cleaner to get rid of all the duplicate appointments that were being created. I then forced iCal to replace everything in Entourage. Everything worked fine for a few months until I purchased a new iphone. Now the diary appointments keep disappearing and no-one seems to be able to figure out why. I'm just wondering if something on the new iphone is making it unstable.

I removed Palm Desktop and installed Missing Sync. However sync won't start when I press the HotSync button.

No, there is nothing published - that I am aware of - other than the Missing Sync User Guide that you received [as portable document format file] when you purchased the Missing Sync for Palm OS.
There is some developer documentation available from Apple, but it has little direct bearing on anything like the issue you are seeing. Your crash logs should have provided an indication of what was going on, and - using them - Mark/Space should have been able to identify your issue pretty easily.
It's very difficult to troubleshoot unusual issues remotely. Common problems - which can be easily identified - are readily corrected just by following the instructions posted by some knowledgable person here in the Apple Discussions forums. Given the unique circumstances you report of total failure following the installation of the Missing Sync, it's very likely that the actual culprit in your configuration is NOT the Palm desktop, iSync, .Mac Sync, the Missing Sync for Palm OS or your Treo 600. Something unique about your configuration is likely responsible. Trying to eliminate the variables, though, is not an easy task.
One relatively easy way to troubleshoot such issues is to create a new user, reinstall the Missing Sync and attempt to synchronize using that new user account. If that process is successful, you'll immediately know that something involving your existing user account is responsible for the issue.

  • Mark/Space releases version 4 of the Missing Sync for Windows Mobile OS

Mark/Space has released the Missing Sync for Windows Mobile version 4, which offers many feature improvements. Among them, likely the most important is support for the Windows Mobile 6 operating system.
A full list of what's new in this release is available here.

I installed the beta version of Missing Sync last night. It seems to be working well (contacts and calendar). Note that only Bluetooth connections are supported and you must read the detailed instructions for getting this to work.
I have yet to try a software installation.
I tried running Activesync 4.2 within Virtual PC 7 but it was hopeless so needed a Mac solution.

  • Gave up and bought Missing Sync for Palm OS

I finally gave up on Leopard ever being able to sync directly with my Palm Treo 650 and bought Mark/Space's Missing Sync for Palm OS ($39.95).
After an hour or so of experimenting with Missing Sync, I'm happy that my Treo and Leopard-loaded Mac are in accurate sync.
It's been very frustrating that Apple and Palm have not fixed this.

today the support person at palm suggested that i purchase missing sync if i wanted to use my leopard mac with the palm (she said they are working on a fix, but don't know when it will be out) -- so i am probably going to do that. how difficult was it to get missing sync to work?

  • Palm Tree 755p + iSync/Missing Sync for Palm/iSync Conduit 1.2

I'm lost! Being stuck with a new Palm Treo 755p instead of the iPhone until my contract runs out. How do I get my Treo to sync with my Mac? There's iSync, iSync Conduit 1.2 and even Missing Sync for Palm. I'm willing to pay anything just to get things to sync with the Treo & iBook. But, after reading anything and everything I can find even on Discussions ... I'm more confused than ever.
Can anyone tell me what the real difference is between Missing Sync for Palm vs. iSync & iSync Conduit 1.2?
If I had that rebate check from uncle Sam maybe I'd go out and pay off Sprint to get out of my 2 year contract and then buy an iPhone, LOL. Oh, that's right we don't get the check until summer
    Any help is appreciated.

OK, I finally broke down and purchased "Missing Sync," after waiting for Apple to fix this problem. I'm sorry to say that "Missing Sync" does NOT solve this issue completely. It will sync the Address book, but will NOT work with iCal.
Apparently, "Mark/Space" (the makers of "Missing Sync") are aware of the problems, have identified the problem as Apple's, and reported it to Apple. Here are some of the issues noted on the "Mark/Space" web-page...
"This article describes situations under which The Missing Sync may report errors or perfomance issues. One error message is specific to iCal (part of Apple's Mac OS X operating system) and describes errors from iCal that are affecting the ability of The Missing Sync from performing sync functions properly."
"In certain situations, The Missing Sync reports an error message titled 'iCal Sync Errors'. This error is often caused when iCal is attempting to share data with Sync Services. Although this error has little to do with handheld devices, it affects the ability to sync data to or from those devices as Sync Services functions are compromised."
"THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED TO APPLE, INC. BY MARK/SPACE."
"Errors that are not reported in The Missing Sync log may be found in the Console.log file."
"Here are some of the error messages you may see in the Console:
    iSDSqliteRecordMapper
    SQLite locking issue
    iSynceConcreteSession
    NSInvalidArgumentException
    ICalExternalSync
    ISyncInvalidRecordException
These error are generated by Sync Services and reported to The Missing Sync."
So, for those of you hoping that "Missing Sync" will solve the problems we are having with various hand-helds, and/or cell phones, it doesn't completely. I am a huge fan of Mark/Space's "The Missing Sync" and have used it many times throughout the years. It's a great piece of software that does a whole lot more than iSync ever has, but it does NOT solve all of the problems that are being reported all over this forum in regards to iSync issues and hand-helds/cell phones.

  • Anyone using "Missing Sync for iPhone"? Any alternatives?

I have had enough trouble with Mark/Space software's Missing Sync for iPhone 2.0 that I'm pulling my hair out. It is consistently finding conflicts and just keeps popping them up on the screen, and the conflicts are jibberish that make no sense.
I had this trouble with earlier versions of this software, and it digs so deep into your system that even when you're installing software, it will pop up, which scares me as I don't want other apps running while doing something like this.
Now I updated to 2.0, because I thought maybe it would be resolved. No such luck. Now, programs randomly crash saying it's "Missing Sync" app that is crashing, etc, etc. I need to get rid of this program but I want something that is similar: A way to keep/download my call logs and text messages.
Just curious if there are other programs out there that don't run deep in your system, etc.
I've tried and tried to get this resolved from Mark/Space, but their support is abysmal, no answers about what's going on.
Any insight would be great, thanks

  • Do I need to buy Missing Sync for Palm to get memos to work

Do I need to buy Missing Sync for Palm to get memos to work for my palm? Every thing else worked just fine, but my Memo Conduit which is Disabled Conduits now.
    Brian

Memos using those conduits are stored in and access using the Palm Desktop.
I too think that the Missing Sync for Palm OS is a vastly superior way to synchronize contacts, events, memos, tasks and other data that iSync is, but you can simply restore Palm Desktop memo synchronization if that is all you want to do.

  • Saving archived emails for entourage 2008 on 2 different MacBooks

I use a Entourage 2008 on Macbook Pro at work on an exchange server and archive emails to specific files on my computer section. This allows me to keep the record of the email and keep the mailbox size appropriate for work. At home I have a separate Macpro with Entourage and want to "see" the archived emails. It is difficult to "synch" them if I saved at different locations.
Previously in outlook, I could do this by saving the PST file on the shared folder and pointing to that file when I opened the outlook at home. The file would be always current. IS there a way to do this in Entourage? Is there a specific way to point to the database, so that either work or home opens to a "shared" drive rather then the local C drive?

  • Tungsten T5 iSync, HotSync, Missing Sync for iCal, Mail and Address Book

I have just been given an old Palm Tungsten T5 and have been looking at the various options available to make it do what I need with regard to syncing it with my G5 PPC iMac with 10.4.11.
I use the T5 only when I am away (from the iMac) and travelling and would like a set- up that allows me to sync, in this order of priority:
iCal, including annual events such as birthdays, and differently colour-coded calendars and, if possible, to dos although these are less important
    Mail
Address Book, in which I really only have e-mail addresses
According to some old threads on the subject, Missing Sync appears to be the program of choice for syncing iCal and Address Book, but not Mail. Instead there appears to be something called Mail.App Conduit 2.0.1 requiring at least Palm Desktop 4, and presumably HotSync.
Is there a single program that will sync all three of these Mac applications effectively? If not, am I going to have to (buy and install and then) uninstall Missing Sync and Palm Desktop (or HotsSync) alternately?
    Is iSync a real option?
Or is there some clever way of using one or more programs to start with and then switch over to just one?
I would be grateful for any advice as to how to deal with this. Thank you.
    Nick

I don't know if you can do this with the Centro. I should have mention that I was talking about webOS (Pre and Pixi). To sync with webOS you need Mac OS 10.5 or later for iCal, and 10.6 for Address Book.

  • IPhone calendar changes not syncing with Entourage 2008 Calendar

    Problem:
    Entourage-->iCal-->iPhone works
    iPhone-->iCal works
But if I create a calendar event in the iPhone, it will sync to iCal, but will not show up in Entourage.
To effectively get your i-phone sync working with Entourage and Mobile Me with Snow Leopard:
    1. Switch off all syncing on i-cal and entourage.
    2. Back up Entourage main identity to your desk top (you may need to import the data later) - Go to File / Export / select Items to an Entourage Archive/ all items / Do not delete items on Entrouage / save to desktop. Close Entourage.
    3. launch iCal and delete all the calendars - if this is the only cal create a calendar and call it whatever say temp and then delete the Ent cal
    4. Launch Entourage go to prefs sync serv turn on Calendar sync and choose combine - this will create a new Entourage cal in iCal
-delete the temp cal in Ent if you made it
-If you loose your calendar or contacts in Entourage go to import data and select the back up you made earlier.
    5. turn on syncing in i-cal
    6. Switch off your i-phone and then switch it back on.
    7. Do a test in i-phone and it should work!

I had the same problem, and then all my calendars stopped syncing either way. They picked a beautiful time to do it, too... right as I was leaving on a business/pleasure vacation where I was making on the fly appointments. grumble
However, I fixed it tonight. Here is what I did.
    1. Back up (export) all your iCal calendars. (not just good practice, you'll need them later) Make sure iCal is closed.
    2. under ~/Library/Application Support/iCal delete everything.
    3. under ~/Library/Calendars delete everything
    4. Sync your phone.
At this point you should have your phone overwriting everything in iCal. If your problem is ONLY syncing from phone to iCal you should be good to go, if you can't sync either way, you'll need to:
    5. Drag all your backed up calendars back to iCal. In theory they will sort themselves out, but you might have some duplicates between stuff you've created on your phone and in iCal.
I don't know if this will keep the problem from occurring again, but at the very least, I was able to test out my ability to create events on either side, and it works.
I kept hoping that the last iPhone update would solve this for me, alas!

  • Mark/Space announces the Missing Sync for Blackberry

This package, promised for delivery by the end of the first quarter of 2007, will require Mac OS X 10.4.8 or later and a Blackberry device sporting version 4 or later of the Blackberry OS. It will reportedly support these devices, and may support others by the time that it ships:
    • 7100 series
    • 7130 series
    • 7290 from Cingular and T-Mobile
    • 7250 from Verizon
    • 7520 from Nextel
    • 8100 series: the Blackberry Pearl
    • 8700 series
    • 8703 from Sprint
    • 8705
    • 8707 series
More pre-release information is available here:
    http://www.markspace.com/missingsync_blackberry.php
Information Appliance Associates, with the help of Research in Motion, continues to offer PocketMac for Blackberry at no charge, available here:
    http://www.pocketmac.com/products/pmblackberry/index.html

That's been discussed extensively by engineers at Mark/Space, but it's not nearly so simple a fix as you would imagine. When the process is reversed through the synchronization framework, unintended consequences of such programming create addition issues.
The problem is the inherent limitation of the Palm OS itself, and until Palm corrects—if ever—this OS issue and modifies the manner in which such events are displayed in its calendaring application, they we are all stuck with it.
A combination of weekly or monthly data views on the Palm and a short notation of the ending data of such an event in the Note: field in iCal can quickly alert you to the start and end data of a multi-day event, and—therefore, its duration—on a Palm device. To avoid synchronization of any and all events, or to term the process 'useless' because of this issue, indicates that you're not sufficiently adaptive to use this technology.

  • Can not sync my Blackberry 8830 with MacBook using Pocket Mac for BlackBerryto Entourage 2008

I recently purchased a Verizon plan with my new BlackBerry 8830 Curve. I also downloaded pocketmac for blackberry with the Verizon technical support person. He spent almost 2 hours with me yesterday. We still can not sync my Blackberry contacts and calendar events to my mackbook on Entourage 2008.
This is the message I get:

PS, they even typed in locate incorrectly.
Can some help? I am stressed out that I only have one location where my contacts are located- the BB
    Thanks

Guess what ? Pocketmac for Blackberry just released a new version this afternoon. 4.125.
I downloaded the new version and it now has a sync for Entourage 2008 and it works BB to Entourage 2008 and Entourage 2008 to BB.
Thanks to them for finally fixing this major flaw

  • Entourage 2008/Leopard/iSync/Palm Treo/Missing Sync

I have been over all the "boards" and everyone is having the same problem syncing Entourage 2008 or even iCal with their Palms.
I have been working at it for three days, and have come to the conclusion that I can get everything to sync to the Palm but cannot sync back. So the only work around is make all changes on the computer, and only use the Palm for the "walk around" reminder, and of course, the contact info.
Not even close to satisfactory, but the only solution at present.
Let me share what I did to clean up the mess.
    1. Wiped out all duplicate calendar entries in Entourage (took about five hours) and saved the database on a remote drive
    2. Wiped out anything to do with PalmOS in applications and library - do not wipe out anything in the Docs folder
    3. Unchecked the sync services in Entourage to the iStuff apps - rebooted, checked them again, and chose the overwrite from Entourage option
    4. within a few seconds, quite magically, iCal and Address Book were accurate again. Do NOT delete any of the calendars in iCal, and leave them all checked - I still don't know what they mean, or what the **** "unfiled" is, but leave it alone!
    5. Assuming you have "The Missing Sync", (this takes over entirely from PalmOS and HotSync Manager) only use the Mark/Space conduits - do NOT use any other contact, calendar, diary, date book, etc. Start off with contacts - select the "settings" - and choose Desktop overwrites handheld. It will work.
    6. then do the same for "Events" - this should work
    7. Then do the whole lot, but just the Mark/Space stuff, backup, any special software you have like AA Fligts, Zagat Guide, etc. etc.
    8. Test changing an event in iCal and see how quickly it changes in Entourage. Same with Address Book, and vice versa. But any changes on the Palm, (so far) have not appeared on Entourage - an alteration sometimes appears on iCal or Address Book, but does not get Synced to Entourage. Therefore, for safety, make all changes and additions on Entourage until a fix is produced.
Now, there's the rub. A fix. Entourage syncs fine both ways to iCal and Address Book. I don't see why I have to use Sync Services anyway - with Entourage 04 and prior, the Entourage conduit used Palm OS and totally bypassed Sync Services (which is always running, and slows down the computer)
Apple won't produce a fix, because they want us to buy an iPhone. Therefore, it's down to the people at Mark/Space to try and fix this issue. Don't know how they can, because it really looks like an iSync problem, - Missing Sync works back to iCal and Address, but not on to Entourage.
Maybe we need a totally new third party fix that syncs Entourage directly to Palm.

Entourage data has never synchronized directly with the Address Book and iCal.
Traditionally, as with Entourage X and Entourage 2004, Palm user alone could choose to synchronize Entourage data using the Microsoft-supplied Entourage conduit to the Palm Desktop using that conduit, or by using the Missing Sync for Palm OS and that conduit.
Later versions of Entourage 2004 provided for a means for all Entourage users to synchronize their date with the Sync Services framework, and therefore to the Address Book and iCal. Other compatible participants included the Missing Sync for Palm OS. iSync and the iSync Palm Conduit were involved only to the degree that Entourage data moved through the framework was thereupon synchronized to a Palm device using them. Users could bypass this process and continue to synchronize their Entourage data directly to a Palm handheld using the Entourage X or 2004 conduits, with this caveat: Entourage X users could not do so under Mac OS X 10.4.x from an intel processor-powered platform.
With the release of Entourage 2008, Microsoft no longer provides an Entourage conduit for Palm users. This is no fault of Apple, Mark/Space or Palm: it is a decision solely on the part of Microsoft.
The synchronization of Palm data for Mac OS 10.5 and later users is differentiated from this issue. A primary issue involved is an apparent incompatibility with iSync 3, another is a set of issues involving the synchronization engine in iCal, which was completely rewritten for iCal 3. Neither of these issues prevent a Palm user synchronizing with Entourage through the Sync Services framework using the Missing Sync for Palm OS. Those who would prefer to use a conduit to synchronize with Entourage 2008 are out of luck, as Microsoft no longer supplies a compatible one.
    The executive summary is this:
    • your specific issue has nothing at all to do with Apple
    • your option to synchronize a Palm device to Entourage using a conduit was eliminated by Microsoft, so…
    1. take your complaint to them (and, good luck with that…)
    2. contact Mark/Space to determine if they are willing to independently build an Entourage 2008 Palm conduit
I would be the first to say that Microsoft's implementation of synchronization through the framework was, and remains, rather clumsy. Again, this is an issue for Microsoft, not Apple, Mark/Space or Palm.
The Unfiled calendar in iCal is the single calendar to which, by default, all events created on a Palm device are synchronized. If you are using iSync, you can either use that calendar, or create another and delete the Unfiled calendar. I chose to name mine Palm events when I used iSync. Users of 'advanced' Palm devices with Palm OS 5.4 or later who choose to synchronize using the Missing Sync for Palm OS have their categorized events read from and written to the specific calendar for each category, and can delete the Unfiled calendar from iCal. Those users with an earlier release of the Palm OS—for example, OS 5.2 on a Treo 600—must continue to use the single Unfiled calendar or a substitute calendar into which all Palm device-created events are written. This requirement is the result of an issue with the Palm OS, and does not involve either Apple, Mark/Space or Microsoft.
Synchronization works bidirectionally IF you have properly configured your environment. Any and all additions, changes or deletions of data store components associated with any application, device or server in your pool, will reflect the same information—to the extent that such information is universally supported—after one or more synchronization events.

  • Best phone for syncing with Office for Mac 2008?

I'll be getting a new phone in a few months and I want to get one that syncs perfectly and effortlessly with Office for Mac 2008.
I currently use a Motorola Q and a Macbook Pro and have to go through isyncing Office with the Mac versions (iCal and Address Book) and then syncing using Missing Sync. It works, but it's slow and not very elegant.
    What's the smoothest solution?
    - Mike

Just be careful if you use categories in Entourage for your mail, calendar and contacts and determine whether those categories will move with your contacts and other data to the iPhone when it syncs. I doubt that it will if sync services works the same way between Entourage and iCal because it doesn't support the category capabilities in Entourage which is why people had turned to Missing Sync for the 2004 version of MS Office 2004
    FWIW
