Missing Tabs Panel/Indesign CS6

Hello.  I just upgraded from CS4 to CS6 and resumed working on a book, only to find that there is no Tabs panel to be found anywhere (see attached jpg image). It's usually right under Paragraph in the Type Menu. It's also not in the Windows/Type Menu.  I've been searching high and low around the program and on the internet and cannot find any clues.  The Tabs instrutional videos on YouTube clearly show CS6 with a Tabs panel available in its traditional spot. I know this is bizarre and it's about to make me freak out because it seems like it should be pretty basic and obvious.  Maybe it is and I'm missing a vital piece of info?  If you have any ideas i sure would like to hear them...

Before the suggestions get made to re-install, a time consuming p.i.t.a. task for sure, do any users of InDesign 6 HAVE tabs in the drop down window?
Like ej5000 I do not have tabs in my drop down menus either.  Steve I've trashed and restored my prefs so many times my head spins. Some afternoons it is literally all I get done. LITERALLY.
ej I think you were ont to something here
Hmmm, nothing else is working.  This is so rediculous and it's taking up all my work day.  I feel like the only solution is to semi-retire CS6, go back to CS4 and only use CS6 for importing .docx documents and exporting ePubs after I've preped them in CS4.
Peter's suggestion is the only way I am able to view my tabs pane.
...press Cmd + Shift + T?
MUCH easier and more time efficient than re-installing or needlessly/ceaselessly/endlessly deleting prefs. Since Adobe is constanly monitoring my activity and issuing updates this should get fixed on Adobe's end IMHO.

  • Pull-out tab in InDesign CS6

    Hi there,
I am struggling to create a pull-out tab in InDesign CS6. I tried the method outlined by Colin Flemming in his video, but this no longer seems to apply.
How must I go about creating a pull-out tab (horizontal) with the new DPS tools? Scrollable frame?
    Thanks,

  • Missing links in Indesign CS6!

    Good morning!
Yesterday, my workmate and I did a .indb file in Indesign CS6. That .indb (book) is made of several .indd files (documents).
So far so good. Then, after it was ready, we linked all images (using the Links panel) to each .indd and then we saved it.
Today, I've tried to move those documents to my computer.
However, the Links panel now shows many missing links in the images, according to the image below:
I can't understand how Indesign CS6 missed links in this case, because we have already linked all images to each document.
Please, I would like to learn more about this process of linking images to documents in Indesign.

inDesign links documents via a file path.
It doesn't actually add the image itself to the document, but rather relays a link to the where file resides on the hard drive.
It then draws a representation of that image in the layout using a proxy thumbnail.
So when it's linked it is actually looking at a file path, say something like
If I move that file to a computer where the my documents folder has a different name say "C:\MyDocuments\Eugene\Images\Eugene1.png"
    "C:\MyDocuments\Marcelo\"
Then when I open the file on Marcelo's computer the link would still be
    "C:\MyDocuments\Eugene\Images\Eugene1.png"
I need to redirect the link to go to
    "C:\MyDocuments\Marcelo\Images\Eugene1.png"
As stated above you should use
    File>Package
Zip the folders the computer generates - and then send them to a new computer.
Unzip and work on the file.

  • Missing Stroke and Fill in toolbox Panel InDesign CS6

    Hello:
I am running CS6 InDesign on my MacBook Pro Yosemite. When I run InDesign my ToolBox Panel is missing. I am also missing the Stroke Window in menu panel. How can I get it back? Can someone help me please?
    Mark Fortney
    [email address removed]

OK,  this is the message I got back:
    Hello Peter,
I know of no documented issue on this.
    Things I do notice:
Extremely low resolution, just as you noticed as well. We¹ve had issues
with low resolutions not showing buttons or more in the past but not menu
items, to my knowledge. Are they able to increase it and does that change
    anything? (Low probability)
We¹ve tried a keyboard shortcut to reset preferences but what about a new
    account?
Have they tried Safe Boot for startup items or other things possibly
    loading in.
I¹m also curious if it ever worked on this computer before?
    -Scott W.
OK, I actually missed the resolution thing, maybe. Hard to tell from your screen shots if you are running full screen, but the control panel is mighty short, so that's not a good sign. What are you running for hardware, and what screen res? Is that the highest available?
So let's also try a new user account. Do you know how to create a new user account and log in with that on your Mac?
And try the safe boot, too. Hold down the shift key while you start up.
And finally, did it ever work?

  • Why is my eyedropper missing from my InDesign CS6 toolbar?

I have searched and searched, and can't find it anywhere.  If has disappeared from my Toolbar, is there some way to restore it?  Another place I can find it?  I'm operating Yosemite on a new (within the past year) iMac.
    Thank you!
    --BILL

    Hi Michael,
Mystery solved... the fix was actually quite easy.  I don't know where the eyedropper went, but I did a "Find File" search on my iMac and could see that there was still an Eyedropper plug-in within my files.  So I did some more research online and someone with a similar problem on Adobe Communities had been advised to replace their InDesign preferences because they must have been corrupted.  I'm trying to post the URL where the info was, but since I had to sign in to Adobe to access the information, I can't post a direct link.  Once you're in Adobe Communities, it was under the thread titled "Troubleshooting 101: Replace, or "trash" your InDesign preferences
Actually, what Peter Spier, the respondent, said in a nutshell was this:
[When InDesign starts to behave strangely, the number one suggestion for troubleshooting is to replace (or trash, reset or restore) the application preferences. This will remove corrupt preferences and replace them with a new set of default preferences, and often end bad behavior.
There is a quick and easy method for doing this using the keyboard: close and relaunch InDesign, and IMMEDIATELY hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Windows) or Cmd + Ctrl + Opt + Shift (Mac), and respond in the affirmative to the dialog asking if you really want to replace the preferences. There are two downsides to this method, however. First, you must be extremely fast on the keyboard (if you don’t see the confirmation prompt, you were too slow), and second, anytime you replace the preferences you will lose most program customizations, and using the keyboard method leaves you with no backup to restore them when the problem turns out to be something else.
My preferred method is to CLOSE INDESIGN and do a “manual” prefs replacement, which consists of finding and renaming the two files which make up the preference set: InDesign Defaults and InDesign SavedData. BOTH of these files should be replaced at the same time. You can delete them, but renaming or moving them will give you the opportunity to copy them back in the event that new prefs doesn’t cure your issue. When you restart ID, the program will look for these two files, and when they are not found, a new default set will be written.]
I did the first method... Cmd + Ctrl + Opt + Shift on my Mac.  Eyedropper magically reappeared in the toolbar on the left.  Easy peasy.
Appreciate your attempt to help.  The online community can be pretty awesome sometimes.

  • InDesign CS6 + Yosemite + Copy/Paste = Missing font

We use ITC Franklin Gothic throughout all of our pieces; it's installed and it's the default font setup. New and existing files have opened without issue until now. I opened an advertisement that needed to be resized, from our shared server and copied the contents. In a new document, I pasted the contents suddenly the font says it's missing. The images retained their links to the packaged folder on the server, the fonts just stopped working. I closed InDesign, then disconnected from the server in case there was some kind of conflict between the local font and the server font override from the packaged fonts folder (packaged from the local font installed, I made the source ad this same way). Loaded the new file, and got the expected missing links dialogue, but unexpectedly the fonts were still missing. I reviewed the missing fonts, and it was the entire family. I opened Suitcase, verified the fonts are active. Still no fonts in InDesign. Okay, disactivated font in Suitcase (maybe it needs an update), installed the font in Fontbook, need to get the ad done and I don't have time for this. Verified font works by opening a different file, making a new document, but as soon as I opened the ad with the missing the fonts, fonts go missing. I then changed the fonts to a different family, and tried changing them back, but the font doesn't even show in the list of fonts. I can't figure out why this particular method of copy and paste breaks the font. I've opened and created other files with this font family active, while this copy/paste file is open at the same time in another tab while it still says "no". The only work around I could use was to copy the entire packaged folder from the server to my desktop and just change the document properties to the size I need, then adjust the artwork to fit.
I'd like to find a resolution as to why copying and pasting broke this font even though the same missing font works fine simultaneously in a different document. Any suggestions/questions/thoughts/solutions would be very welcome.
    System specs:
    27" iMac (Mid-2011) 3.1 GHz i5
    32 GB RAM
    1 GB Video
    10.10.2
    Adobe InDesign CS6 8.1
Update: Looking through the font list, Franklin is being listed as a different font. Though the character palette, the font selected is ITC Franklin Gothic Std Book; the font listed in the Type drop-down menu is Myriad Pro, and once that was deactivated, Helvetica.

i don't see how that could be the case because I originally installed the font, created and packaged the ad, and the font is available for typesetting in a new document while this problematic document is open without being connected to the server.
I upgraded to creative cloud 2014 and this particular document is still a problem. This font issue is limited to this sole document. I'm guessing it has something to do with the copy and pasting. Tomorrow, I'll try replacing the font to something else and then copy/pasting it in the same way if it recreates the same problem with a different font.

  • Strange behaviour of a panel in InDesign CS6

I am currently developing a panel running on InDesign CS5, CS5.5 and CS6. For some internal specific reason, the panel (of type csxs:CSXSWindowedApplication) has its visible property set to false; in its "Lifecycle", the autovisible is unselected and the panel starts on event "applicationActivate".
This way the panel works as I am expecting, at least on CS5 and CS5.5; unfortunately this is not happening under InDesign CS6. The best way to explain what I am obtaining (expected or not) is by running a ExtensionBuilder 2.0 existing demo project. The example I am talking about is the "CSXSWindowedAppDemo" project. After having imported it, the visible property of the CSXSWindowedApplication must be added and set to false on the "main.mxml" file.
Then, some adjustment must be done by ctrl-clicking the project and selecting the "CS Extension Builder > Bundle Manifest Editor" menu. First of all, the "Max. Target Version" on the Bundle tab panel must be set to "empty" (to be sure the panel could be run on CS5.5 and CS6); then, after having clicked on the "Extension" tab panel, the "AutoVisible" property must be unchecked and the "applicationActivate" event must be added to the "Start on event(s)" list.
If the panel is executed on CS5 and CS5.5 the behaviour is the expected one and could be reproduced this way:
    Launching the panel by clicking on the "Extensions > CSXSWindowedAppDemo" menu;
    Clicking on the second tab panel ("Status Bar");
    Closing the panel;
Opening the panel again with its menu (see point 1).
As expected, the panel should open by presenting the "Status Bar" tab panel.
    Now on InDesign CS6:
    Launching the panel by clicking on the "Extensions > CSXSWindowedAppDemo" menu;
    Clicking on the second tab panel ("Status Bar");
    Closing the panel;
Opening the panel again with its menu (see point 1).
Action #4 doesn't open the panel, nothing happens and re-opening it by clicking on its menu again will cause the panel to be "re-executed" from the scratch by presenting the first tab panel again (as it was executed the first time). Then, the other steps:
    selecting the second tab panel ("Status Bar");
    closing the the panel;
    opening the panel again.
Now, the panel is shown as expected and the "Status Bar" tab panel is shown.
I tried to figured out a solution for this, but I don't actually understand what's happening on CS6.
Any help would be really appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Luca

    Hi VG,
I am surprised to know that you are not facing against this behaviour on CC too (because I had on CC as well); when I asked to the Adobe Developer Support I was told to create a separate project for CS6 and CC and effectively this solved the issue. Unfortunately this way, I had to manage two different projects instead of one.
    Hope this could help

  • Problem with tab stops in InDesign CS6

    Hi there.
I'm trying to align large numbers (with two stops) like
    1.229
    102.864
    7.075
    2.140.753
    2.251.921
in Indesign CS6. Obviously I'd like them to align on the second dot.
After choosing OpenType > Tabular Lining from the Character Panel menu I am able to align them almost perfectly. However upon closer inspection I can see that the second dot is not aligned perfectly like it should. Why is that? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Hi Donvinoth,
Sure! If you look at the examples above, I've tried three different options and settings using the Minion Pro font. Selecting "OpenType > Tabular Lining is not even necessary as I've come to learn.
Example A: a normal textbox in which I've selected all the numbers and then chosen "Align right". The numbers then align perfectly on the second dot.
Example B: a normal textbox with several columns and different tabs options. You can see which one I've used on the individual columns by the title above. Notice how the decimal option is not aligning the numbers by the second dot? The only solution to the problem is to choose the "Right-justfied Tab" in the tab options, as shown in the last column. Aparently you can't make the decimal tab align on the second dot like this in InDesign yet but perhaps they'll make it possible in another version.
Example C: I've inserted a table into a textbox and and then used different tabs options on the columns; notice how the decimal tab is working like it should in this case? In order to insert a tab in a table you need to place your curser right in front of the number and then right-click your mouse, choose Insert special character > Other > Tab. You can also choose to make the row and column stroke invisible in the table Table options if need be, which will make it look exactly like a normal textbox.
This won't work with fonts like Dosis as it's not suitable for tabular work where you want figures to line up vertically like Spier said, so you need to choose a font like Minion Pro or something similar to it.
I'm not sure if that solves your problem. If not then please attach a picture of the issue you're having and I'll try my best to help you.

  • InDesign CS6 for Windows: Type tool crashes program and am getting missing plug-in msgs.

Just installed InDesign CS6 for Windows. When I open the program, I receive three messages:
    (1) Paragraph Panel.APLN needs Justification Panel plugin;
    (2) Runin Styles Panell.APLN needs Find and Change Panel plug-in;
    (3) Objectstylesui.APLN needs Graphics Panel plug-in.
To top it off, the type tool crashes the program.
I couldn't locate any current forum postings that appeared to help. I have uninstalled and re-installed the software. I have done an update from Adobe.
Advice? This is an educator's addition if that matters.
    Thanks,
    Julie

Thank for your help Peter. My software is working just fine now.
For others who might encounter these issues, here is how - with Peter Spier's help - I solved my problems. I uninstalled the previous CS6 version and re-booted. I disconnected from the Internet and then disabled my antivirus protection, antispyware and firewall. I had to do this in Norton as well as Windows (Windows Defender and Windows Firewall). Then I re-loaded the entire CS6 and re-booted. I opened InDesign. I no longer got the msgs about plug-ins missing. I then opened a new file and checked the Type tool. It worked fine. I opened an InDesign CS3 file, saved it as a new file in ID CS6. I was able to successfully edit text using the Type Tool.
Thank you to Peter for your help!

  • Missing standard plugins at InDesign CS6 startup

We recently updated from CS5 to CS6 and since then everytime I try to use InDesign CS6 I get errors telling me it cannot load plugins for some of the standard panels, for example:
    Gradient Panel.InDesignPlugin
    OutputMiscUI.InDesignPlugin
    Swatch Library Panel.InDesignPlugin
    Transparency UI.InDesignPlugin
    Text Color Panel.InDesignPlugin
Then it gives an error that says "Cannot open resource file"
The application will go ahead and open, but most of the standard panels are missing. This isn't an issue of trying to open a newer version with an older version, because I am just trying to open the application to create a new document.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail.
    Help?

Uninstall again, run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3) and reinstall. If you're on a mak, hold down the Shift key when booting to start up in safe made before you reinstall, for Windows, see How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista
Return to normal startup after the install.

  • Mini Bridge Missing from InDesign CS6 after Upgrade to InDesign Version 8.1

I discussed this same problem https://forums.adobe.com/message/5833991 after upgrading to the prior version 8.0.2 of InDesign.
After upgrading to InDesign Version 8.1, Mini Bridge no longer works.  Mini Bridge does not show under the Window menu and shift-clicking the Bridge icon opens the full Bridge, not Mini Bridge.
With the prior version 8.0.2 problem, I was able to recover Mini Bridge by doing a re-install of InDesign under Window's Safe Mode.  Microsoft has somehow changed Safe Mode and I can no longer do the reinstall using Safe Mode.  I have tried several different ways of reinstalling version 8.1, but none of them correct this problem.  Still no Mini Bridge.
Mini Bridge does work in Photoshop CS6 with no problem.
I have read through all of the messages that seem to relate to this problem in this forum, but none of the suggested solutions work for me.
Can anyone provide me with an answer?  If not, how do I get help from Adobe?  I am willing to pay for support, if necessary.

RESOLVED - I can't believe it, but I have actually figured this out.
Getting frustrated with going in circles, I decided to dig into security options.  First off, I opened Windows' Properties for the start-up icon for InDesign.  Right off, I noticed under the Compatibility tab that InDesign was set to run in Compatibility Mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3).  This did not seem right, so I turned off the option to run in Compatibility Mode and re-started up InDesign.  Low and behold, the option Window | Mini Bridge was now displayed!  And it worked!
Sorry to have bothered you gentlemen with this problem.  I really appreciate your assistance!
    Mark.

  • "Missing Plug ins" in InDesign CS6

    Hi,
lately, I've got installed CS6 Standard on a Windows XP machine, German version. There were CS2 and CS4 formerly on this workstation. The admin deleted the CS2 before installing cs6.
Now, every part of CS6 is up and running - except for InDesign CS6.
Upon launching InDesign CS6, I keep getting error messages saying, among others:
"Adobe InDesign erkennt  [plug-in name here] nicht als gültiges Zusatzmodul. Installieren Sie  das Zusatzmodul [plug-in name here] neu, und starten Sie InDesign erneut. Diese Meldung wieder anzeigen? (JA) (NEIN)".
    and/or:
"Zum Laden von [another plug-in name here] is JBX erforderlich. Installieren Sie  das Zusatzmodul JBX und starten Sie InDesign erneut. Diese Meldung wieder anzeigen? (JA) (NEIN)".
The first message appears several times along with diverse plug-in names ( ssignment UI, InCopy Bridge UI, InCopyExport, InCopyImport…). The other one concerns only this "JBX", if I remember correctly.
After all the message are clicked away (it does not matter if I click on JA or NEIN), InDesign CS6 launches in a crippled form, with no palettes, with reduced menus, and it is crashing upon trying to choose the "Preferences".
The Prefs were already deleted with the appropriate keyboard shortcut.
What's the issue and how do I get InDesign CS6 to work?

First of all you should know which Plugin is missing. Then you have to buy it for CS6 and install it properly with the Extension Manager.
This is not the issue, I think. There was never a 3rd part extension installed along with former ID CS version. So I don't think we'd had to buy any.
I suppose the Adminstrator has copied the plugin from an older version to the newer version and the plugin seems not be compatible.
No, he didn't. AFAIK, he's just installed and registered the CS6 according to Adobe's instructions.
Another thing is obvious that a second plugin is missing which is used by the other plugin. This might be also a third party pi or a default is missing.
Yes, this is all fine, but again: there was never an extra plug in for ID CS 6 installed on the system. Every version was always installed simply "as it is", because we don't need external plug ins to work with.
Another thing: It is good to keep older versions installed on the computer for a while when a new version is installed. When all documents have been migrated you can delete (uninstall) the old version. Not before. So it was not a good idea from the administrator to delete the older version.
You have possibly misunderstood me. Your hint to keep the previous version is highly appreciated; this is, actually, the way we'we been processing with every major software update for years, as well as this time. Only the whole CS2 was deleted, since it was succesfully preventing (on three different Windows workstations) the CS6 installer to do it's job. CS4 is still installed and working.
The missing plug in issue doesn't exist au dem MacBook Pro, by the way, which was also upgraded from CS4 to CS6. Maybe because I am actually the "admin" of it

  • Why does Indesign CS6 Tools panel cover up the left side rulers?

Every time I open a window in Indesign CS6 I have to slide the window to the right so I can use the left-hand ruler and the x close button. Is there any way to change this in preferences? Or is this a glitch?
    Thanks!

It is actually not a preference.
Method 1: Go to menu WINDOWS->ARRANGE
Method 2: Move the window with the mouse. When the window edges touch the tool bar edges, the window should be framed by a blue frame. Let go and it will be tabbed.

  • Sign in with indesign CS6 in folio builder panel

hi! I can't sign in with indesign CS6 in folio builder panel. what can a i do?? I can sign in from adobe web page, but not from indesign, and the option "updates" from "Help" menu is deactivated

I found one way to fix it:
    - quit all CS6 apps
    - if in OSX force quit the CS6ServiceManager via Activity Monitor app
    - go to the User Library (hold down option key while accessing the Go menu) and find these:
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CS6ServiceManager/preference/csxs3.pref  - move this file out to desktop
Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE/opm.db - move this file out to desktop
zip these up and delete the original, you now have inaccessible copies to put back just in case but have found this unnecessary.
    - Restart Indesign and log in should now hold.
Found this started to happen after updating to 10.9.2, on a number of our designers machines.

  • Using InDesign CS6 onWindows PC.  Apple icon and traffic lights in L top corner are missing.

Using InDesign CS6 onWindows PC.  Apple icon and traffic lights in L top corner are missing and so are some of the editing features.  I fixed this once before by accident but can't remember how I did it.  All I remember is it had something to do with the veiw % in other applications - I think!

I've been using a tutorial that is obviously been done on a Mac.
I used to have a link somewhere that was basically a list of all of the differences between the two platforms, but I can't lay hands on it. I'm sure if you asked us about the features that were missing or broken, we could answer fairly easily - you know, like "Preferences are under the InDesign menu on a Mac, but in Windows they're under Edit."
The worst of these differences is in keyboard shortcuts - Macs have an extra modifier key, so whenever I switch platforms I always spend twenty minutes flopping my hands around and muttering uncomplimentary things about Cupertino and Redmond, at least until muscle memory takes over.
