MISSING TASKBAR ICONS

For some unknown reason, all taskbar icons except time/date have vanished from my Toshiba T115D-S1120 Satellite.  They aren't hidden, they are GONE!  They are grayed out on the show/hide page.  I installed a couple of gadgets from the ones Win 7 Pro 64 comes with, but nothing else.  I'm stumped.  Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.  Jim

OK, this is getting really strange!  I created a new user and now have most of the icons in that account only.  I now have the volume, battery and network icons in the taskbar where I want them.  However, the Safely Remove Hardware (USB) icon and a few others are not in the hidden icon drop down.  Obviously, I need the USB one and would like at least access to the others.  Any idea where I might find them?
Also, when I tried a system restore I only had one restore point a few days ago.  I tried it, but it didn't take me back to before the icons disappeared.  No idea where all the other restore points went.  I have auto updates turned off, but I have updated the computer several times.  As I understand it, each time I run updates, the computer should create a restore point.  I just checked, and MS has 13 updates they want me to install.  The notification wasn't on the other two users (me and guest) because there was no icon in the taskbar.  Problem is, I'm afraid to download/install the updates without a restore point first.
As I said; strange...

  • Google chrome - missing taskbar icon (43.0.2357.65)

    I just updated to 64 bit chrome, and I'm using the Numix Circle icon theme in xfce.  The taskbar icon is now a generic icon, even after updating the icon cache.
    Is anyone else seeing the same thing?

    Same problem here (Mate DE), this problem is being seen since latest betas and dev-builds. Latest stable is based on latest beta, so problem comes to stable too

  • Desktop Manager disabled a bunch of software and disappeared my Taskbar icons

    I just installed Desktop Manager 4.5.015 (I'm pretty sure that's right). This version came with my 8330. After the required restart, my XP system took forever to reach the desktop. Once it reached the desktop, about six to ten of my taskbar icons disappeared. Nothing I've tried will make them come back.
    Even worse than the missing taskbar icons are the several applications that no longer function properly. My Palm TX synchronization software no longer works. My NIS 2009 password management addon no longer works. And those are just a two of the bigger issues.
    I've uninstalled Desktop Manager. No change. Things are still messed up. I'm considering installing the newest version of Desktop Manager (5.0 I believe) but am not convinced doing so will resolve the issue.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

    Check in System Preferences>Universal Access and see if Zoom is on. If you have toddlers or cats this can accidentally turned on by hitting a group of keys that include Option + Command + 8.
    To prevent this being accidentally activated in the future go to System Preferences>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts>Universal Access and uncheck all the boxes.

  • Taskbar icons disappear in Windows 7

    I have recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate.  If I click on the taskbar icon for an open window/application, the window is minimised AND the task bar icon disappears.  I have to use ALT-TAB to find my window again.  It is infuriating.
    I have Win 7 at work, and Win Vista on my laptop. In both cases clicking on the taskbar icon will miminise the window, but leave the taskbar icon.  Clicking the icon again will restore the window.  How do I set my Win 7 Ultimate to do the same?

    I'll do my best!
    not_a_computer_techie,
    I have to make at least a few assumptions, so bear with me.
    I'll assume you understand what the "Desktop" is.
    Right-click (your mouse) on the Desktop, (left-)click "New", click "Text Document", press "Enter" on the keyboard.
    Double-click the new text file you just created (named "New Text Document.txt").
    You'll either have to copy the following statements and paste them into the file, or if you don't know how, enter them by typing them in. Obviously, there's less chance of an error if you copy and paste them.
    taskkill /F /IM explorer.exe
    cd /d %userprofile%\AppData\Local
    attrib -h IconCache.db
    del IconCache.db
    start explorer
    Now, look at the top left of the window where you just entered or pasted the statements. You should see the words "File", "Edit", ..., "Help". Click "File", click "Exit". It will then ask if you want to save
    your changes; click "Save".
    Change the name of the file from "New Text Document.txt" to "New Text Document.bat" (i.e., change the last three characters from "txt" to "bat") and
    click "Yes" when prompted.
    Right-click "New Text Document.bat", click "Run as Administrator". You must now reboot your computer for the change to take place. Every program that had an icon missing will have the icon restored when the program is run.
    I recommend you rename the file from "New Text Document.bat" to "Icon Cache Refresh.bat" and save it somewhere for the next time this happens (and believe me, it will).

    What you are seeing is how Safari works now in iOS 5. There is no way to get that icon in Safari now. There other much better browsers available in the App Store. Look at iCab Mobile, Mercury, Atomic, ....
    I have been running iOS 5x for so long now, that I don't even remember if that icon did appear in earlier iOS versions

  • How to Set Taskbar Icon in Windows 10?

    I have installed windows 10 preview version and try to develop apps on it.
    I use
    SendMessage(hwnd, WM_SETICON, ICON_SMALL, myicon); to change the application icon before win 8.1.
    But I found that the icon in taskbar is no longer the same as that of window icon in windows 10!
    It is the same as the tray icon (next to the clock) now.
    This is quite strange and the resolution is blurred since the tray icon image is too small.
    The problem occurs on the desktop notification icon, too.
    Dropbox windows app has the same problem (app icon in taskbar is the same as the tray icon, so as the notification icon)
    Is this a new design for taskbar icon for windows 10?
    If so, is there a API to change the icon to a customize image?
    Thank you very much!

    Hi,
    Thank you for your information!
    I still have some questions:
    1. What does "same functionality" mean? It seems that the notification is a new feature in win 10.
    2. I cannot find any update about the taskbar icon from win 8.1 to win 10. But the way to configure the icon is changed. This really bothers me because the blurred icon looks so ugly...
    Thank you very much!
    1. sorry typo, "some functionality"
    2. can't help you there, i'm not encountering blurred icon. might be because of graphics driver compatibility.
    try installing the latest graphics driver.

  • 'Missing Camera' icon with question mark!

    I uploaded over one hundred movies from my camera. Some of them show up in my iMovie library but some have the 'Missing Camera' icon. The movies are in the iMovie contents folder as .mov files. so I know they are in my computer. Why won't they show up in my library? I have the latest 10.0.1 iMovie version. I am running 10.9, Mavericks.

    Hi Phoenix, did you ever resolve this issue? I'm experiencing the same exact thing today and it's quite frustrating.
    Thank you!

  • Outlook Taskbar icon dissapears, even though outlook is still running.

    One of my users has come across a strange phenomenon in the behavior of outlook 2010.
    The users perspective:
    My outlook program has dissapeared, even though I still have emails open... ARGHHHHHH AHHHHHHHH
    Infrastructure Engineer perspective:
    Don't believe user, convinced user is "accidentally" closing outlook, or ignoring a message popup, or clicking the wrong button on message popup. So I watched the user remotely for 30 minutes, until
    sure enough, Outlook programs just dissapeared from task bar, but open emails were still stacked on the windows 7 Taskbar icon.
    Digging through Event viewer highlighted nothing at the time or 30 minutes I had been watching.
    Now the interesting part.
    Obviously Outlook.exe is still a running process, and right clicking the task bar icon still gives you Outlook options for new emails etc, and can click MS Outlook 2010 to open the main Outlook interface again, which opens rapidly as if it were invisibly
    minimized. I also noticed that when it had dissapeared the right click menu "Micorosoft Outlook 2010" button was affixed with " (2)".
    So, its looks as though MS has not dissapeared but the pinned task bar icon is looking for an instance of outlook affixed with (2) at the end.
    Closing outlook and unpinning outlook from task bar, open outlook from scratch gets rid of (2). Which can then be pinned again, soon after outlook dissapears and the (2) is back again.
    The user is built using the same windows image and MS 2010 deployments and updates schedule as 5000 other people, no one else has reported this issue. Any Ideas anyone?
    p.s. I have no idea why the text in this post has changed size, something to do with the delete key being used at the end of a paragraph, in order to make a new line instead.
    Kind regards
    F

    Outlook has a notification area icon as well as a taskbar icon. If you right-click the notification area Outlook icons one of the options is 'Hide when minimized'. If that is checked then it will behave as you are describing.
    Good luck!

  • IOS 8 upgrade and now missing airplay icon

    I use AirPlay to stream music from both iTunes and Pandora on my iPhone 5 to an AirPort Express.  After upgrading to iOS 8, I no longer have an AirPlay icon in Control Center.  The AirPort Express and the iPhone 5 are both connected to the same network.  The AirPort Express is very new (purchased new from Apple within the past 90 days).  It all worked great before upgrading to iOS 8

    APPLE...
    The problem of a missing AirPlay icon and missing AirPlay devices has not yet been fully resolved. The variations I've seen (on an iPad 4) are
    1) There is NO AirPlay icon, only AirDrop
    2) The AirPlay icon is there but when you open its popup the local device (iPad) displays at the top of the list followed by one other device. If you now wait the shown device scrolls sideways and shows another available device
    3) The AirPlay icon is displayed and its popup window contains a current list of all available streaming devices. This is what we want!
    HInt: Possibly there is something going on concerning the streaming capabilities of the available AirPlay devices. I've noted that my AppleTV is usually first up when devices start to appear and this offers picture and sound streaming (also screen cloning from suitable devices). After this the audio only streaming devices appear.
    APPLE PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS !

  • Is there a way to add more pinned pdfs to the taskbar icon over the 10 default ones?

    I need to know if there is a way to increase the amount of quick-access pinned files through right clicking the taskbar icon?

    I think the answer to all your problems could be the excellent FREE Sound Editing Program called AUDACITY.
    Download it here:-
    http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
    What you need is the "Change the Pitch" filter in the "Effects Menu".
    It will change the pitch without altering the speed.
    (The "Change Tempo" filter is also excellent as you can alter the speed of the sound without making it sound squeaky or rumbly).
    Ian.
    PS. You will need to export the offending soundtrack to Audacity and then import the doctored version back into FCE.

  • Missing Firefox Icon on Windows 7 machine

    No icon for Firefox visible! Newly installed on a Windows 7 machine. Version 4.0.1

    I already found a solution to this problem: it's possible to pin the icon from the desktop icon menu, while a taskbar icon does not contain a "Pin" option.

  • Is using a taskbar icon in .exe combined with windows service a good idea as part of an alarm system?

    My client wants an alert system and his focus is on the taskbar.  He wants the icon to change, (and ideally even blink) and also to have some beeping when a new work request comes in.  It needs to run constantly, and grab the attention of an operator
    who may not be paying much attention to the screen.
    I’m excited to develop this, but after years of web development, I feel paralyzed.  I must be making this harder than it needs to be, but here’s my plan…  I'll start with a windows form, which will run minimized, and have an icon that looks like
    a hammer in the taskbar.  A timer would continually check for a new service requests.  When it sees one it would change the toolbar icon to a red x and sent a few dozen beeps out to the operator.  I think I need a windows service running that
    checks periodically to see if my windows exe is running.  If not, it should start it up.  Perhaps this could be a scheduled task, rather than a service.
    Some of my questions are;
    How do I change the taskbar icon on the fly?
    Is this a good idea, or is there an easier way?
    Snippets of code or related articles are most welcome!
    Thanks!

    So I created a windows form and added a timer to check for unacknowledged requests.  If it finds any, it changes the icon on for the taskbar, and makes a beep.  Simple, but it works.  However, I'm having a beep of a time trying to figure out
    where to put the ico files so they are where they need when I publish it.  Others seem to suggest adding them using the properties of the application, under application / resources / Icon and manigest blah blah blah.  But I can only seem to add one
    there.  I need the three different ones.  I'm confused!  Any suggestions?
            private bool iconBig = true;
            private Icon redcross = new Icon("..\\NewRequest.ico");
            private Icon redcross2 = new Icon("..\\NewRequest2.ico");

     private void timer1_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e)
                List<WorkRequest> myWorkRequests = WorkRequestData.WorkRequest_unAcknowledged();
                if (myWorkRequests.Count > 0)
                    for (int i = 0; i < 5; i++)
                        SystemSounds.Beep.Play();
                        if (iconBig == true)
                            iconBig = false;
                            this.Icon = redcross;
                            this.Refresh();
                        else
                            iconBig = true;
                            this.Icon = redcross2;
                            this.Refresh();
                else
                    this.Icon = hammer;

  • The Strange Case of the Missing Network Icon

    Can anyone help my buddy Tom - who is running a G4 iBook with OS X Panther? He is unable to get onto his wireless network and here is the problem in his own words:
    "Had a moment to muck about in the iBook drive, following data crumbs from the all-pervasive Network software. Apparently, all that spinning of the drive over regions containing bits and bytes of the application managed to cobble together enough of Network to launch an e-mail, which I immediately determined had to go to you. This is strictly a spit-and-string enterprise, similar to a baling wire and soup can exhaust system fix, and likely the only e-mail I'll get off until I complete an entire system restore. Think of it as a faulty telephone connection - you can hear me, but I can't hear you. So, don't bother to respond, as your e-mail will probably languish in my Inbox for the time it takes me to resurrect OS X.
    What brought me to this point is my reasoning Network isn't a stand-alone application like a word processor, but rather a "network" (clever, eh?) piece of software with files strewn through other software so they can access various aspects of it. For example, World Book Encyclopedia accomplishes a software update without launching Safari; connecting to its mother ship via but another piece of Network that happens to reside within the program. I guess this approach is what put the "i" in iBook, and it seems to work pretty well...until moments like this. Perhaps Steve Jobs outsourced to Hansel and Gretel to create a new marketing twist.
    Anyway, I've talked this all up with a number of people, and the universal response seems to be; "Huh? I've never heard such a thing.". I even managed to mightily confuse Dave and he's got an awful lot of Mac expertise. But the real kicker, when explaining how I reasoned it all out, is when I mention the key to my understanding was when I noticed the missing Network icon. That's when their eyes glaze over and it's apparent they can't quite wrap their brain around the idea. I've deduced how to cajole the Finder to reveal this Archimedean moment, and included a pair of attachments so you, too, can share in my AHA!! revelation. Running this all past Dave had him agreeing I seem to have a handle on it, but the sheer complexity of all those .exec files squirreled here, there, and everywhere still had him scratching his head.
    Interestingly, I have to coerce the Finder to display the icon example; you can't simply click it into existence. I do it by plugging in a travel drive, opening same, then ejecting it. The Finder then defaults to what you see (the word Network with no icon).
    Speaking of attachments, I was so tempted to wade through all 70 (70!!) e-mails in my inbox, but was fearful my MacGyvered patch would fail before getting this off to you.
    Time to fade back into the black hole from whence I came. When I close Safari it'll relinquish its tenuous grasp on the Network .exec file it's hacked to."
    Any ideas on what's wrong and how it can be fixed? I'll see that they get passed on to Tom.
    G4 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   iMac

    Before the mid-1980s, networking might have been implemented with a lot of goofy little routines (.exec's if you must) calling one another. About that time the CCITT (an international telecommunications standards committee made up of Academic and Industrial representatives) did a lot of work abstracting and then standardizing the functions that various parts of a network perform.
    The CCITT refined the notion of a Layered Network Architecture and specified the types of activities performed in each layer. Shortly thereafter Apple implemented Open Transport and delivered it into the marketplace in System 7.5.3.
    Apple networking has been very well-behaved and under control since then. It does not tend to "get lost" or "lose track of things". It really is very good. With only a few limitations, you can connect Macs running 7.5.3 through 10.3.9 and have File Sharing work without regard to what versions are talking to each other.
