Missing the Chime!
Hi,
I recently had some troubles with my 4 month old imac,w hich no longer could detect the OSX and instead gave me a flashing folder with a question mark.

Anyway, needless to the issue was "solved" by doing multiple PRAM resets and by using the TTD.dmg from Apple to fix the "failed volume issue".
The trouble is that now, when I start up my MAC it is a little slower than before and no longer gives me the chime noise.
Is this anything to worry about and what else can I do to get my mac in the best of health once more? Should I bite the bullet and get the hard drive chnaged under apple care?
I lost the chime on a MacBookPro after a year of use. Fortunately I had Applecare. The tech I spoke to said that the logic board was most likely going to fail and he advised sending it in for repair. The logic board was replaced and so was the chime. Call Apple and see what they have to say. I would send it in.

Thanks John for the suggestion. I was finally able to dwonload the newest drivers today when I signed on. Seems like if you let one day go by Software Update will look at your version of the driver and will finally let you download the newest. That did not help. Nothing but communication errors. It would not even let me load the the new driver as it would no longer ever see the printer.
Yesterday, for further explanation, I was working at the computer when I heard the printer chime a few times. When I looked over the green light, which normally signals it is receiving a file to print, was flashing away. I was doing nothing and I finally had to turn it off. I spoke with another techie friend who is a big Mac user and has the same printer and he suggested it may be the USB circuit. This printer has been on for 5 years with a few days off. We have concluded the circuits are past their useful life and I will soon send the printer to be recycled somewhere. A new printer is on the way as I need this device.
Again, thank you for your suggestion and I will mark this solved due to mechanical failure. -
Missing the Message App after Mountain Lion Update
My Macbook Pro totally crashed after the Mountain Lion update, and a wonderful tech support lady at Apple walked me though hours of restoring it. However, now that it is working fine and all programs re-installed, I noticed that the Message app is missing. I really like this app and want it back. I paid for the OS and think I should get everything I had before, plus the update. I shouldn't lose a program in the update, should I? I've read through all the other message boards and can find only general suggestions to search in the spotlight (which I did to no avail), and I have searched for a third-party download. After the trouble I've had, I really just want the program back from Apple. HELP!
If it did not get reinstalled for some reason, then you will need to reinstall. See the following. You can avoid this if you have a prior backup.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless. -
I created a partition accidentally cancelled it but now I am missing the space on my harddrive?
I was in the process of creating a 1gb partition on my harddrive. I accidentally cancelled it and now im missing that 1gb from my total space. I had Originally 499.25gb now its 498gb. How do i correct this issue?

First, repair your hard drive with Disk Utility.
Boot to the Recovery HD:

Repair

If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Second, shut down the computer and wait at least one minute. Then turn the computer back on. After it has completely restarted, check your hard drive information: Select the disk's Desktop icon. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. See what is displayed for Capacity, Used, and Available space. This is really the best information about the drive's space. -
Does anyone else miss the month-at-a-glance feature from the old version of Reminders app? I wish Apple would bring that feature back. It made it very convenient to schedule for the future.

BT Vision + box ( black box ) - Missing the end o...
Fitted new BT Vision + box to allow me to have BT Sport in August 2013 . I don't have Infinity as my house doesn't have a Fibre Cabinet yet . All is working OK apart from we regularly miss the end of programmes which have been set up to record . I never had this issue with the Silver BT Vision box for the many years I have been using BT Vision. Im pretty sure lots of other people have this issue , can someone advise of a fix for this or is the New BT Vision + box not up to the job or is there another explanation . I rang technical helpdesk which was offshore only to be told sounds like an issue with our Freeview signal missing the end of programmes .

I'm missing the back cover and flap for my book in the layout interface. Does anyone know how to restore these? I've searched the interface but can't find an option to add cover/flap. Don't want to order a book without it.

1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

So whenever I try to download the newest itunes file it won't let me finish the install process because I'm missing the "Itunes.msi" file whatever that is and I've done some searches but I cannot find the file. Anyone know what to do?

I changed permission setting on main disk...took forever now when I bootup I get the chime...apple icon...fan noise...thats it...internal drive is broken...no Mac install disk..I have a windows XP desktop with installation disk..if I was to get external drive ...could I use windows XP styartup disk just to boot the "17"Powerbook-G4...have no intention of downloading XP on the Mac...just want to boot it up...or is there a way to boot the Mac from the XP desktop...cables...etc?

PS my keyboad is loose...I tighten the tiny screws...only...once ...tried all the key-strokes...Comand-option..P-R.....safe-mode... etc...Mac only reacted ...once...right after.. I actually think when I was changing permissions...on entire it was taking so ong...20 min...I just hit power,,shut it down...when it wasn't done...no patience.,...just thought of something ...sounds important...whern I resgisted on this site..I tried to use my Powrbook login name ..got message.... .. blocked...Secury problem....that has to be the problem..blocked..how do I unblock?

It seems like I just missed the interval for the hard disk replacement program. I purchased in March 2009 a 24 inch Intel iMac . How much does it cost to have apple support at an Apple Store replace a hard drive?
My hard drive continually has the floating beach ball and will take massive time to fulfill a request. And then will not boot up...so then I have to do a restore and rebuild hard drive from a past saved time machine version. Works for a little bit...then the floating beachball comes more and more...until it will not boot up again. So then I restore from a previous time machine saved version....and again it works for a day or so ... until it happens again. Now it's happening faster and faster...so I think my hard drive is dying.

How do I set up my 4S phone to chime when a new email arrives? Right now, the chime only sounds after I tap the mail icon. I need an alert to check my mail. Comcast mail. Settings for mail set at "fetch new data". Thank you
Try if this works for you
1. Tap Settings on Home Screen
2. Go to Mail, Contacts, Calendars
3. Tap on Fetch New Data
4. Turn "Push" to On
5. Back to Mail, Contacts, Calendars again
6. Under "Advanced", make sure that it is set to "Push" for all your mail accounts
Push means the server will literally push the mails to your iPhone whenever there is new mail. Fetch like the word says is where you have to manually update to receive new mail (what you are doing now) -
I recently transferred my ITunes library to an external hard drive. I made sure to copy all the data from the saved location. After the transfer I noticed that a lot of albums are missing the first song and some recently purchased albums are missing. Is there any way to recover the data? Thanks for any help.

They only thing I can assume is that my external hard drive was slow to start and iTunes defaulted to its old directory (see the last paragraph at the link above). However, once my external was recognized shouldn't everything have fixed itself?

I have manually back up my iphone few days back, and my contact got missing the next day. i restored my back up from iTunes, however, my contact did not get restored. How do i check if the manual back up did actually back up my contact or not? How do i get back my old contact in my phone?
Your entire second paragraph is so confusing I am going to ignore it.
But I may be able to answer your first and third paragraphs, which seem to address the same question.
I wonder where your iPhone states it was backed up yesterday. I am going to assume that you see this under Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup.
If that is true, then the backup from yesterday is in iCloud. The one and only way to restore an iCloud backup is to do this on your iPhone:
Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings
That will cause your iPhone to begin a setup process. As part of that process, assuming you enter the same Apple ID you used when you created the iCloud backup, you will be offered the opportunity to restore from it. -
I am missing the add objects section from the fly out menu in Photoshop CS6. 3d workspace
I am missing the "add objects" section from the fly out menu in Photoshop CS6. I am in the 3D workspace of Photoshop. "Scene" is highlighted and I have clicked on the little fly out menu in the upper right hand corner of that panel. The whole section that should contain, Add objects, delete objects, duplicate objects, all the way through reverse order is missing. The add lights section above and render section below it is there. I am not new to Photoshop, but I am new to the 3D section of Photoshops work space.
I do know about creating a new layer in the layers tab and merging the objects together trick. But I kind of would like for the program to work correctly as I am sure that doing it that way will cause some sort of problems later in the work process.

Photoshop says that my software is up to date. I use Photoshop daily and everything else works just fine. I have looked through this forum and there is someone else who had the same issue as me but their question was not given a solution. So that is why I choose to post it again.

Mark.I've made tests with four different 3rd party tools: OpenGL Extension Viewer, GPU Caps Viewer, Compute4Cash OpenCL Diagnostic Tool and Mudlord's Glide3x wrapper tester. All those tools report no problems with my video card driver and OpenGL/CL.
I have contacted nVidia and based on reports from the tools and visual tests from GPU Caps Viewer nVidia support doesn't see a problem with my driver.
I found sniffer_gpu.exe which according to Adobe Help pages is a kind of diagnostic tool and determines whether Photoshop uses the graphic card OpenCL or not. Here is the output:

On the other hand, I have your word that there is no problem with Photoshop not recognizing OpenCL for my card and that nVidia driver has problems. Can you justify this somehow? Perhaps you could provide more details on technical level, or another utility to run and extract details, to at least identify the problem Photoshop has and hopefully solve it on either side.
P.S. During tests there were two things which I noticed, but they are probably not related to the issue:
1. One tool reports the lack of Windows registry key SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows (NT)/CurrentVersion/OpenGLDrivers. But according to your previous statement, Photoshop only uses OS calls, no registry and according to nVidia, this key is not used in Windows 7.
2. During some tests GPU Caps Viewer reports that "OpenCL CPU not supported on the selected platform". This is not complaining about GPU, only about CPU. But Photoshop is complaining about GPU, so it shouldn't be relevant. -
