Missing thumbnail images

I run iPhoto 6 on OSX 10.4.10. For some time, part of the thumbnail view of my library has not been appearing. What I get is a dotted outline where the image should be. It's in one particular, earlier section of my library but not all the earlier section. I cannot detect any pattern to particular dates etc. I am using the same camera and I have not been poking about where I should not. I have tried rebuilding thumbnails but it had no effect. When I double click on a dotted outline the image appears in the main window but I need my thumbnails back. Anybody have any ideas about this?
Cheers from OZ

OK so if I understand the primary account can get to the library and the library is ok for this account? The problems are with the other accounts?
To make sure this still works I did the following:
Create an aperture library in /Users/Shared
Changed the permissions to Read/Write for everyone, logged in as other user was unable to access the library. Aperture complained that the library wasn't writeable. This is the correct behavior.
On the shared folder I opened the Info window and selected everyone and then with the clicked the gear at the bottom of the window and selected apply to enclosed items... Finder asked if I was sure I wanted to do this I clicked OK
Now when I logged in as the other user I was able to run Aperture on the library in the shared folder.
I never received any errors from Aperture. Both accounts have full access to the library. Not sure what might have happened in your case. I suggest you delete this library and try again.

  • Missing thumbnail images for AVCHD files

I never had this problem before.
In the past I would import AVCHD (*.mt2s) video files to the oganizer using Premiere Elements 7.
Then I would open Photoshop Elements 7 and the video files I just imported in Premiere Elements 7 would display their thumbnails just fine.
NOW, these thumbnails do not display.
AVCHD files that I had previously imported still display their thumbnail, but any NEW AVCHD files do not display their thumbnail images; it just displays a default video thubmbnail graphic.
Furthermore, if I select "Update thumbnail" from the context menu of a previously imported AVCHD file with a thumbnail, then the thumbnail image goes away and siaplays the default graphic.
(PLEASE NOTE: when I click the default thumbnail image, it opens the video previewer successfully. So the answer is not that the video file is missing and therefore needs to be reconnected to regenerate the thumbnail image. So else is wrong here.)
How can I get the thumbnail feature to work properly? It works fine in Premiere Elements; the thumbnails images for both new and old imported files display just fine in that program, which is what I used to be able to see in Photoshop Elements. Why is PSE7 not displaying these video thumbnail images?

I have solved this issue myself a month or two ago and forgot to report my findings.
I alspo have a Canon HD camcorder so this was a major issue for me.
The way to resolve this issue (at least in my case) was to download a  codec pack like k-lite. Do a google search for the codec pack or follow this link:
    http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm
When I installed the codec pack, I think I had to make sure M2TS files were selected within the installation wizard so just be aware of that.
Another way to resolve this issue is to upgrade to Windows 7. After I upgraded to Windows 7, I did not have to re-install the codec. I think Windows 7 has native support for AVCHD files.
I hope this helps. If it does, please report here if you encounter anything of note worthy since the details of this process are no longer fresh on my mind.

  • Missing thumbnail image in PSE 12 for videos

Hi I recently downloaded PSE12 to my new computor with Windows 8.1 64 bitt.
Ihave just downloaded all my photos and videos from my Iphone 4S but the thumbnail for the videos shows as blank in the organiser with no image yet when you click on it , it plays video and sound this is being done with the current version of Quicktime.
When the original videos were transferred to the computor from the phone and the picture folder the thumbnail contained an image and it was only when transferred to PSE that there was no film clip on the thumbnail .
Can anyone help as to how to have a video clip in the thumbnail as I have 50 videos of the grandkids and is impossible to ascertain what each thumbnail represents .
Many thanks for your help as this is new to myself.

It’s possible that your application window is larger than your monitor/display as there is no switch for hiding the bottom menu/options bar.
Try changing your screen resolution or perhaps minimizing the window and dragging a top or bottom corner to re-size.

  • How to I get high res thumbnail images?

Just discovered once I've imported images into my library Aperture 3.2.2 (running under 10.7.3) doesn't render high res thumbnail images (when the Browser Thumbnail Resize slider is set to the far right/maximum), even though my "Previews" preference settings are as follows:
"Use embedded JPEG from camera when possible" is unchecked
"Don't Limit" for Photo Preview is selected
Photo Preview quality set to 10
Deleting and regenerating thumbnails doesn't solve the issue. However, if I delete the photo from the referenced library, then reimport the image, the browser thumbnail image renders sharp. The low res thumbnail is at left; high res thumbnail (after re-import) is at right. Both thumbnails images are sharp when the Browser Thumbnail Resize slider is positioned in the middle. Photos render sharp in the Viewer, regardless.
Going back through my images, it seems Aperture stopped providing a sharp thumbnail image since around July 2010. Other than updating Aperture, my workflow or supported camera hasn't changed. Couldn't find a reference to this issue in the User Manual. Am I missing something a setting somewhere?
    Thanks,
    Eric

Its unclear if the command Generate Thumbnails actually does anything if the thumbs already exist and as there isn;t a Delete Thumbnails command like there is a Delete preview command there are only two ways to force a new thumb to be generated.
One is to import the image again and two is to delete the Thumbnail folder in the Aperture library. I don;t know for sure if this will fix you problem but as I said it is the only way to force the generation of the thumbs.
If you try this make sure you have a good working backup of the library. Nothing here will normally cause data loss but it is always a good idea before messing with the library.
Quit Aperture, Highlight the library in the Finder and right click, Select show package contents. One fo the folders you'll see is Thumbnails, delete it. Open Aperture.
Also be aware that the regeneration of the thumbs will take some time. Depending on the size of the library it could be an all day affair. Aperture is usable while this is going on but it will be slower.

  • Missing Thumbnails in CS5 bridge

I just got Photoshop CS5 and for the first time decided to use Bridge that comes with Photoshop. My problem is that Bridge doesn't show thumbnails for all my files. Some folders of images have a few thumbnails missing, other folders have a lot of thumbnails missing. One of my folders have over half of the image thumbnails missing. An icon shows up instead. I can still double click these icons to open the image in Photoshop but I can't see the image in advance of opening it. I found a whole lot of info on the adobe web site concerning thumbnails in a lot of various products. But nothing seemed to match what I'm experiencing. In fact a lot that I read leaves me more confused. Anyone else having this problem and have an answer?

    90% jpg
Some NEF and some TIFF. None of those have missing thumbnails, but then I don't have very many of each.
Just got an upgrade to Bridge this morning, version 4.0.5.11. After it installed I checked for a change in the thumbnail problem. No fix.
    ACR is version 6.4.1.145

  • Missing Thumbnail Fix, at least for me

I had an extremely frustrating issue with missing thumbnails (dotted blank boxes) with iPhoto 6 that migrated to iPhoto 8 with no relief. I tried all the thumbnail and library rebuilding, and permission repair issues to no avail.
In my case, the original images were fine - if I double clicked on an image, it would open fine in iPhoto - right-clicking to reveal the original in the Finder worked fine too. But for about 100 photos, no thumbnails.
I finally discovered that if I edited the image in some minor way, the thumbnail would rebuild. The easiest was to rotate the image (selecting multiple worked as well), and then undoing the rotation. I don't know what caused the issue to begin with, but this action fixed the issue in a way the built-in rebuilding option could not do.
    Hope this helps.

    Tom:
To help prevent loss like you experienced see the tip at the end of my signature.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Question Mark on Thumbnail images in galleries

When I post my photo gallery from iPhoto through iWeb onto my mac site, all the thumbnail images appear with a question mark over it. This just happened with my last posting and has affected all my past galleries as well. Does anyone know what causes this?
    Thanks

Now that's a first for me. Haven't seen that problem before. A check of the Activity window for that page indicates that there are no missing files. Being that you're running iWeb 1 it may have something to do with it. Have you tried doing a Publish All to .Mac for your site?
Post your question in the iWeb (Previous to iWeb '08) forum as there will be iWeb 1 users there that might have experienced this and have a solution.

  • IPhoto thumbnails & images don't match

Yesterday when I opened iPhotos a message came up warning that I needed to rebuild my thumbnails. I wasn't worried about this (I have gotten the message before) & clicked OK. Today while adding some photos to iPhoto I noticed thumbnail images don't match the actual images on file. What can I do to restore things so that all matches.
    I am running iPhoto 6.0.6

Note that you posted this question in the iPhoto '08 (version 7.x.x) forum - it is better if you post in the correct forum - iPhoto 6 - http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1116 - as the answers to some questions will be different between the two versions and it is very easy for a user to miss the version listed in your text since they assume that all posts in the iPhoto '08 forum are concerned with iPhoto '08

  • No more cr2 thumbnail images with ACR 5.3

I've downloaded ACR 5.3, uninstalling 5.3 candidate (Cs4, Windows XP) but a weird thing has happened: in Adobe Bridge all the cr2 and dng thumbnails do not show the images, but just the cr2 and dng logo. In others words I cannot see the raw thumbnails images as previews in Bridge before opening them in ACR.What am I missing? Is Bridge or ACR 5.3 the responsable?
Thank you in advance for any help.

    Luca,
Did you download the Updater installer or did you attempt to update the plugin manually?

  • No thumbnail images - only icons instead

Bridge does not cache images from my m2t- and mpg-files, only from avi. Consequently there are no thumbnail images in the 'CONTENT' window, but only MS Media Player icons (I'm not sure whether this is the correct name for the window, in German it is 'INHALT'). Note: The 'PREVIEW' is working well.
I just have installed a codec-package containing all types I use, especially m2t.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Christian

    Hello Ann,
I've got a question on the display of thumbnails issue. I only have Bridge CS2, so it's probably not even close to up to being as powerful as later versions. Mention was made of the File Associations in Preferences, and these only affecting the associated program to open into. In searching, I noticed that Bridge CS2 does not have many of the AV file types listed. There is no WMV, MPEG (also none of the more current versions of MPEG), and even AVI is missing. The only thumbnail that I got was from an .ASX file. Now, this is Bridge from the CS2 Production Studio, installed with PrPro, AE, etc.
As I usually use another cataloging program, ThumbsPlus for AV Assets, and Bridge just for my RAW, TIFF, PSD and JPEG images, I had not really noticed this, until I was invited to join in on this thread. Do those "missing" file types show up on Bridge CS3 - CS4? I would just assume that they were added post-CS2.
Now, as you know, there are all sorts of general reasons for thumbnails not appearing in cataloging programs. I have found that MPEG-1's seldom display. MPEG-2's more often do. AVI's (unless they are encoded with the DivX/Xvid CODEC) usually do show. MOV and WMV seem to be a crap-shoot, with MOV's seldom displaying thumbnails. I'd wager that most of this is due to an incompatibility between the encoding CODEC and the various programs, and how they handle the CODEC's, even when installed on a system.
Sorry to only have questions, and no suggestions, but I hope to learn something about Bridge along the way.
    Thanks,
    Hunt
[Edit] The above references just the Thumbnails. With Preview, I do get the first frame, along with any muxed audio. I do not have any of the recent HD MPEG's to test with. Even without those file associations, Preview works fine. Now, I have to go find some MPEG-1's and test a few of those.

  • I'm missing thumbnails... have rebuilt twice... then did a permissions repair before I try and rebuild again... any suggestions?

Need help with missing thumbnails...Iphoto11... have rebuilt twice, which took hours... rebuild works but when I close app and reopen, they are missing again.  Did a premission repair in disk utilty and Iphoto, getting ready to rebuild again to see if it sticks this time... if not, any suggestions?  I don't want to lose my images.  Thumbnails are blank, but clicking image shows they are there.... so I know they are still on the computer.... not sure what to try next????

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • How do I set the thumbnail image of my videos that export to my computer?  I'm using Premiere Elements 11 on a windows 8.1 PC 64bit.

How do I set the thumbnail image of my videos that export to my computer?  I'm using Premiere Elements 11 on a windows 8.1 PC 64bit.
Or how does Premiere 11 determine where to set the image for the video it is exporting?
I already know how to use Freeze frame and save the image to my computer by Publish+Share/Computer/ Immage.
    Thanks,

This is not Adobe. Rather user to user. We are all visitors here.
Just a bit of history....back in the days of Premiere Elements 4, you could set a "poster frame" in what was called the Project area. You did this by right clicking a blank area there and, from the drop down menu that appeared, selecting View/Preview Area, and using the poster frame feature there.
As I said, when a video imports into Premiere Elements, the thumbnail of the import has been presenting as the first frame of the video. With this Preview area "poster frame" option, you could set the video's thumbnail in the Project area so that the first frame was another frame in the video. But, this "perk" was restricted to thumbnails of the video in Project area.
If you exported to file with the first frame modified video, the export's thumbnail in Windows Explorer would present with other than the real first frame or the poster frame as the first frame.
Also, in more recent versions, I have observed that the export to file does not display the real first frame of the video in Windows Explorer. Seems random, but I have not kept track.
And, remember, at the onset I wrote
As far as I have ever seen, Premiere Elements Windows uses the first frame of the video for its thumbnail in the program.
I know of no way within Premiere Elements to control what the program opts to do in this matter. In some compatibility
issues, it opts to give no image but a generic one.
I did not say that you can expect to have the Premiere Elements' export file's thumbnail in Windows displaying with its real first frame. And, the more you get into this, depending on the versions, more details need to be added to my comment about "...first frame of video for its thumbnail in the program..."
I would have to look into all this further to get perspective on the contributing factors.
    ATR
Add On...The Poster Frame feature appeared in versions 4, 7, 8, and 9 by my count.

  • How can I create an effect to cycle through several sets of 12 thumbnail images rather than just one

    Hello
I've searched everywhere i can think of and had no luck so thought it's about time i asked for help.
How do I create an effect where a group of 12 thumbnail images (all with clickable links) can scroll across by clicking a button to reveal another set of 12 thumbnails and so on without having to refresh the page, im assuming jquery can help but every single slideshow or scroll effect I've come across is for single images and not a set of images.
Its a gallery part of my website and the images are in sets of 4 in 3 rows.
All and any help will be greatly apprieciated!

I think what you want is a Carousel Scroller.  See Demo and Examples
