In the initial confusion, I may have accessed the
iPhoto Library Folder
If you changed anything in the iPhoto Library Folder
then the only solution is to change it back. If you
cannot do this, then you'll need to start again with
a new library. You can import your existing
collection into this library, but you will lose any
albums, keywords etc.
To recreate the library: move the iPhoto Library
Folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a
new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and
find there the Originals folder. From there drag the
individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will
recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the
iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.

Thanks very much for the info. I think that cracked it.

  • IPhoto problem - missing thumbnails/pictures

For some reason, suddntly my iPhoto said I was having troubles with my database and that is was going to be repaired.  Unfortunately, I am now missing all the thumbnails to all my pics so I have to physically click on them to see each one.
Does anyone have any advice as to what to do to correct this?
    Thanks

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails. It can take 3 or 4 goes for this to work

  • Missing Thumbnail Fix, at least for me

I had an extremely frustrating issue with missing thumbnails (dotted blank boxes) with iPhoto 6 that migrated to iPhoto 8 with no relief. I tried all the thumbnail and library rebuilding, and permission repair issues to no avail.
In my case, the original images were fine - if I double clicked on an image, it would open fine in iPhoto - right-clicking to reveal the original in the Finder worked fine too. But for about 100 photos, no thumbnails.
I finally discovered that if I edited the image in some minor way, the thumbnail would rebuild. The easiest was to rotate the image (selecting multiple worked as well), and then undoing the rotation. I don't know what caused the issue to begin with, but this action fixed the issue in a way the built-in rebuilding option could not do.
    Hope this helps.

    Tom:
To help prevent loss like you experienced see the tip at the end of my signature.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • "any" help out there for missing thumbnails???

I looked for archives of this problem out on the internet and have had no luck with the solutions of finding files "thumb.5". I am missing thumbnails from over 6000 pictures. Each time I pick a block of pictures to "update thumnails" , it actually takes away the few thumnails that are there.
I installed 5.0 on Vista 3 months ago, and everything was fine. All of a sudden, all I see is the hourglass (which basically renders the program useless)
If no one has any fix, do you know who I can contact at Adobe or a customer support number ... they hide that stuff pretty well in their website.

    Chuck,
I am running Windows XP rather than Vista so I hesitate to predict a folder structure under Vista. And I have always kept my catalog name the same at the time of the Restore.
I know that a friend verified for me that when he took a PSE 5 Backup done under Windows XP and then used that backup to do a Restore on a Vista machine running PSE 5.0.2, it restored correctly to the Pictures folder structure.
Running under XP and PSE 5,if I choose
    b Folder Location view
(pull down box lower left below thumbnails) and then Right Click on the Name of one of the folders which contains photos in this catalog, the right click menu has a choice to
    b Rename Folder
. (Note: in my case that specific folder had no subfolders).
I did that Rename Folder in PSE and then subsequently checked in Windows Explorer to find that the folder had actually been renamed. So that seems that it might be a possibility. However, I highly recommend that you do your own test using a folder containing less significant photos.
And I recommend that you 1)do a File > Catalog > Recover before you do this renamimg in order to cleanup and compact your catalog. 2) Then also before you rename, use Windows Explorer to just copy your Catalog file to save an extra copy somewhere. 3) After you are finished this renaming and verified that it is OK. do the File > Catalog > Recover again and then perhaps do a new PSE Backup (or however you normally backup).

  • Missing Thumbnails in CS5 bridge

I just got Photoshop CS5 and for the first time decided to use Bridge that comes with Photoshop. My problem is that Bridge doesn't show thumbnails for all my files. Some folders of images have a few thumbnails missing, other folders have a lot of thumbnails missing. One of my folders have over half of the image thumbnails missing. An icon shows up instead. I can still double click these icons to open the image in Photoshop but I can't see the image in advance of opening it. I found a whole lot of info on the adobe web site concerning thumbnails in a lot of various products. But nothing seemed to match what I'm experiencing. In fact a lot that I read leaves me more confused. Anyone else having this problem and have an answer?

    90% jpg
Some NEF and some TIFF. None of those have missing thumbnails, but then I don't have very many of each.
Just got an upgrade to Bridge this morning, version 4.0.5.11. After it installed I checked for a change in the thumbnail problem. No fix.
    ACR is version 6.4.1.145

  • How to eliminate the thumbnail picture from a .TIFF picture?

I apologize but could not think of a more suitable forum to ask the question - if someone has an idea for a better place, I will appreciate.
When I create a picture with my (Nikon) camera in the TIFF format, it appears that the picture file contains in addition to the full blown picture, a reduced version of the picture, something like a large thumbnail vrsion of the picture. I found it by trying to create a PDF file of the .TIFF file - Acrobat created a two page file, one with the full picture and one with the reduced picture. It looks that I can't tell the camera not to embbed the thumbnail version.
So my question is, from someone who is familiar with the .TIFF file format, how to eliminate that thumbnail version from the .TIFF file. Must be somewhere (hopfully one) location in the file that when modifying it it eliminates the thumbnail picture from Acrobat's view into the .TIFF file.
As to the question why not simply erase that undesired page from the PDF file - the answer is that I actually going to assemble many (hundreds) such pictures into one PDF file. Acrobat will put all those pictures such that each main picture will be followed by its own thumbnail and therefore I will have to select manually each single thumbnail page before erasing them, extremely tedious. If I could process it at the individual .TIFF file as describrd above, I could easily write a program that does this modification to all my .TIFF files with one invokation.
    Many thanks,
    David

You should get the mobile version of YouTube which sends Firefox a notice to open it in the YouTube App. That will have a much better playback experience than running Flash in the browser.

  • Missing Thumbnails

    Missing thumbnails
In October I switched from OS 10.1.5 to OS 10.4.8.
My thumbnails have become only dotted outlines in iPhoto 6.0.5, except when enlarged.
Reading thru these topics, I realize it may be my fault.
I apparently committed a no-know by renaming the folder that appears after the folders MODIFIED and ORIGINALS with a different name. What I think I have done is rename the THUMBNAILS folder.
I have no idea what that original folder name was, so can somebody supply the name, and will that help? I would like to try this before going to the other methods for restoration.
Luckily, I saved all of OS 10.1.5 on my new external HD along with those files, so I can go to the old iPhoto 2.0 anytime. The Thumbnails work just fine in 2.0, maybe I should not bother with all this c--p!
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    IT WORKED!
Thanks for the advice Terence. When I changed that Thumbnail folder name back to "Data" from what I had named it, all my Thumbnails came back. The reason I stupidly changed the name was that I was looking for the folder that holds the album folders, and wanted to identify that folder by using a different word. I still have lots of things to work out in going from iPhoto 2 to 6, and will post more questions as I go along.
    Thank you,

What are the settings for clearing history when Firefox closes?
Make sure that you do not clear the Browsing Cache as that will remove the thumbnails that are stored in it.

  • Unable to view .wmf thumbnail pictures - Windows 8

    Hello,
I am unable to view the thumbnail pictures of a Microsoft clipart image on my computer.  I have had this problem before and I can't remember where I found a quick little patch/download to fix this problem.
Does any one know how to fix this problem or know where the patch is?   I have Windows 8.
    Thank you.

The IE app does not allow most plugins so it cannot run silverlight, you will need to keep using the desktop version.

  • Black thumbnail pictures.

In iPhoto 7.1.5, the thumbnail pictures are black, but when opened individually, they are fine. How can I get them to show up in the thumbnails? Thanks!

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

  • Thumbnail picture for .EPS or .PSD

Moved from PSE 3 to 5, some questions...
Question 1) Under windows explorer, when looking at the contents of a folder in thumbnail view, it does not give a thumbnail picture for .EPS or .PSD (Photoshop Elements 5.0) files, which is a real problem. If you open an .EPS with PSE5, and save it to .EPS, PSE5 ask you for a .TIF image for the thumbnail. This worked under PSE3, but does not under PSE5 (i.e. Opened and saved to .EPS with TIF thumbnail still does not display under Windows Explorer).
Is there any way to correct this? Any utility that would allow all file formats to be viewed in thumb nail?
Question 2) In PSE3 under the File menu, there was an option like "Browse Pictures" (I don't remember exactly the name), and it was, in effect, a windows explorer that did display the thumnails of not PSE3 .EPS files and .PSD files. This made up for the issue in question 1. However, I cannot find this option anywhere in PSE5. Has it been dropped? I it has been dropped I will probably reinstall PSE3 and use it for that feature alone.
    Thanks!
    Bob

    Bob,
See this thread for, at least, PSD icons.
    http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?224@@[email protected]
I don't remember anything about EPS thumbnails coming up. Installing the dll as described some years ago when PE3 came out restored my PSD icons. Not sure if it works in PE5.
The "Browse folders" option in PE3 Editor's File menu was dropped in PE4 and has not returned. One of several reasons I'm still on PE3. :)

  • Inconsistency between display of icon & thumbnail picture next to file name

Does anyone know why there would be inconsistencies in the images at the (left) side of the file names when viewing in Finder?
I have a list of AVI files, some of which are displaying thumbnail pictures (which is what I want), and yet others display only an icon image (the little strip of film icon).
It doesn't matter whether I use 'columns', 'list' or 'icons' view the result is the same. I've tried going to "Show View Options", but adjusting the settings makes no difference.
If I want to see a preview of what the file contains I have to make sure the 'View' is selected to 'Columns' so that Preview will pop up in the next column to the right - this is time consuming and frustrating considering that other files that are comparatively the same are showing a convenient little thumbnail picture which saves me from having to click on them.
I've rung Apple about this and the person I spoke to agreed that this "inconsistency" does happen, but could not help me.
Hope someone here can advise me how to make all the files appear with thumbnail pictures.
    Cheers,
    Lehla

    Hi jsd2,
Thanks for that suggestion of CocoThumbX. I downloaded it and it did create a thumbnail picture, however when viewing it in 'Columns' view, the large area of 'border' around the image (in the form of a black film strip) means the image is scaled down so much that it is difficult to see what it is and I generally still have to click on it to force Preview to open in the next column to allow me to see which clip it is. I know I could use 'Icons' view, but I'm also converting some files to MPEG4 using iSquint, and when the 'Add' window opens in iSquint to allow me to select the file/s I want to convert I have the problem of the tiny images not being quite big enough for me to decipher what they are. The original thumbnail pictures (when it decides it will display a thumbnail picture!) are only marginally bigger but it is still better.
I've tried to get rid of the black border in the CocoThumbX thumbnails in the hope that the image can then fill the entire allocated space, but cannot find a way. Do you know if it can be removed, or possibly of another utility that has no border?
I would appreciate your further advice, thanks.
    Cheers,
    Lehla
