Missing Thumbnails in Organizer Importing Function

I recently upgraded my my operating system from Windows XP to Vista.  When I used the import function in Elements Organizer (with XP) I could preview the thumbnails and select the desired images on the camera or compact flash card.  Now that I have moved to Vista the thumbnail preview or selection is no longer visible or accessable.
I have been through the software options, search engines and this forum but have seen nothing about this problem.  I do sometimes have a perchance to miss the obvious and apologize if this is the case.  Any help is appreciated.
OS Windows Vista 64 bit
Photoshop elements 9
8Gb RAM

Possibly due to display or dpi settings in the Windows control panel being below 96 dpi or 100% especially if you have a short screen e.g. laptop or notebook.
A work around is to import everything from the card into a folder on the hard drive. Then use File à Get Photos
It’s then possible to select and deselect from the Organizer import dialog.

  • Missing thumbnails in organizer (v5)

Why do only some thumbnails display in the organizer? I need thumbnails shown of ALL image files in each folder.
For ex, I copied a bunch of images into a project folder for editing. Only 3 files out of maybe 80 show up as thumbnails in organizer. The original versions in other folders do have thumbnails. I have the folder set to automatically update.

Just a late thought-are there possible duplicate files? You said you copied some to a project folder. Elements does not like duplicates (even if in different folders).
Organzier uses tags and collections for subdividing/grouping photos, instead of folders. So if Folder 1 has 50 pictures and you need 10 for a special project, you can tag these with Project 1 and filter on only those. Or you could make a Project 1 collection, do your editing and stuff and then export these to a slide show or disk.
Could this be a reason you do not see the thumbnails?

  • Missing thumbnails in Organizer

I'm trying PS Elements 9. I've imported my pictures into the Organizer but some of the pictures don't have thumbnails. Instead they have a placeholder graphic with a flower on it and a blue triangle with an exclamation mark. I don't see any explanation of what this might mean. These pictures did not generate errors when they were imported. The pictures were scanned photos, just like the ones that imported correctly.
I've tried deleting the pictures from the catalog and reimporting. I've  tried updating the thumbnail. The picture can be opened and edited in Elements but even if the edited photo is saved as a copy, it does not display a thumbnail.
Can someone explain this? And maybe tell me how to fix it?
    Thanks.

Sometimes running the repair command can sort this out.
    In Organizer click File >Catalog
Click on your current catalog to highlight it and then click the repair button. Often you get a message saying nothing found to repair but click repair anyway.

  • Organize Imports & Auto Importing/Class Lookup

I've been working with Flex Builder 3 now for over a month. I
love many of its features. It does so much for me in building
AIR/ActionScript/Flex apps that there really is no other option.
However, the "organize imports" function just doesn't work well.
The only time it works is when declaring a new variable. If you are
lucky enough to type perfectly, it very nicely adds imports to any
class it finds. However, if you so much as mistype a letter, back
up and type the class name correctly, you lose your automatic
import. If you correctly type your class name and variable
definition and think, "hey, I can go to the menu and choose
Organize Imports," sadly, you are mistaken. Organize Imports does
nothing. Sometimes it removes class imports that belong to code
you've temporarily commented out, but it never pulls anything in.
Further, if you access a static function from a class, that is, you
are not declaring a variable, but simply calling a class function,
no import at all occurs. Organize Imports doesn't work. You must go
and type in the import yourself. It does try to help you at this
point, but if you don't remember the exact place in the package
structure, you must go to the docs to figure out where it is, type
it in, and then you get function introspection. I love what Flex
Builder does for me, but this is just lame. I used FDT for a while
to see if that tool would work for me, but, sadly, it doesn't. It
just doesn't give you all the power that Flex Builder does. But, I
never have to type in my imports! Their class helper functions work
great. I can type in a class, misspell it, retype it, and it
catches the class. When I choose Organize Imports, it works just
all the other Eclipse language plug-ins work. Why is this? Why am I
expected to pay top dollars for a product that is broken in one of
the simplest ways? Does anyone have any take on this? I can't be
the only frustrated one... Thanks. Sorry for a pure rant, but I
just needed to vent and wanted to know if Adobe plans to fix this
obvious failing... Or if everyone just expects this to continue
    this way and accepts it.

Thanks, Tanya. I posted two bugs:

  • Organizer 10 missing thumbnails after upgrade

After upgrading from Elements 7 to 10, I'm missing 1400 thumbnails in Organizer 10 that are still present in Organizer 7. Is there some way to find the missing images and get them viewable in Organizer 10? Thank you.

Well, I figured how to fix the problem manually, fairly quickly. Clicked on Display, then folder location. In the My Pictures section, it was was easy to identify the 20-30 folders (out of about 100) whose images had not been imported into organizer. Right clicked each one, one at a a time, and clicked to import images. Voila.  Took about 10 minutes, and all the images are now in Organizer 10. Thanks for the ideas to help me.

  • Organizer - how do I fix missing thumbnails?

After processing RAW files in PE9 and saving as JPEG's, there seems to be a random number of resulting files which fail to show as thumbnails in Organizer. Instead there's the grey flower/exclamation mark thumbnail. The file clearly exists - Properties shows every detail and I can open the image via Finder. Any ideas or suggestions on what's going on/wrong?

Hard to know what's going wrong, but select the images in the Organzier without the proper Thumbnail, right click on one of them and select Update Thumbnail for Selected Items

  • Can I invoke "Organize Imports" for whole project?

On the features page on labs.adobe.com there is a mention that Organize Imports should work for "projects". Does this mean that I can invoke this function for a whole project or do I need to do it file by file? If it should work for a whole project, how to invoke it?
    Thanks,
    Borek

"Organize Imports" isn't available at project level.
It has to be invoked file by file, as it not just removes unused imports but adds any missing ones, resolves ambiguous references and consolidates the import statements
    Thanks,
    Guriya

  • Missing Thumbnail Fix, at least for me

I had an extremely frustrating issue with missing thumbnails (dotted blank boxes) with iPhoto 6 that migrated to iPhoto 8 with no relief. I tried all the thumbnail and library rebuilding, and permission repair issues to no avail.
In my case, the original images were fine - if I double clicked on an image, it would open fine in iPhoto - right-clicking to reveal the original in the Finder worked fine too. But for about 100 photos, no thumbnails.
I finally discovered that if I edited the image in some minor way, the thumbnail would rebuild. The easiest was to rotate the image (selecting multiple worked as well), and then undoing the rotation. I don't know what caused the issue to begin with, but this action fixed the issue in a way the built-in rebuilding option could not do.
    Hope this helps.

    Tom:
To help prevent loss like you experienced see the tip at the end of my signature.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • PSE6.0 organizer import CR2 files results in 'no preview'

When I import Canon CR2 files from my camera using the PSE Organizer (Windows "import with PSE6") I often get no RAW preview/thumbnails; a thumbnail is created for some of the imported RAW pictures but most of them not. When I have opened the picture (camera raw 5.3 start by double click, and close) in most cases a thumbnail is created and displayed. This shouldn't be necessary, I suppose ????
Does someone know this bug and how to fix it?

So, now I have to buy PSE 7? Isn't there a cheap(er) upgrade possibility? After all, it is a bug in PSE6. PSE7 costs almost as much as a 'new' / first install version, isn't it.
I would love to have the latest version, mostly not for the new features but mainly for bug fixes and/or performance enhancements.

  • IE6 bookmarks aren't being imported when using the import function in Firefox.

I tried using the import function but it didn't work.

It usually works better if you export the Favorites in IE to an HTML file and import that file in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager.
    * Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html): File > Import and Export
    * Import the HTML file in Firefox: Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import HTML: From File
See also http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_bookmarks ("Import from another browser" and "Import from file")
Your above posted system details show outdated plugin(s) with known security and stability risks.

  • I get no thumbnails in Organizer (just a grey icon)

    I use Elements 8.0.
After successfully opened over 900 pictures in Organizer (imported them from my harddrive), suddenly no thumbnails showed up when importing new pictures. Just a grey icon suggesting I should wait (but nothing happens). I deleted pictures from Organizer that I used to see as a thumbnail and tried to import them again but now they don't show up as thumbnails either.
If I click on FIX and EDIT PHOTO the picture show up and I can work with it, but I can't see it in Organizer. I have plenty of space on my hard drive so that is not the problem.
    HELP!

Are these large images, perhaps multi-layered?
The Organizer in Photoshop Elements limits the maximum dimensions of an image based on the amount of RAM installed in your computer. The limit is in place to prevent Photoshop Elements from attempting to use too much memory, which can cause the program to slow down or appear to freeze while it is working with very large images.
If an image exceeds the limit, then you can import the image into a catalog in the Organizer, but the Organizer will not display a thumbnail for the image or show the image in a slideshow or other creation.
This tech note refers to earlier versions off PSE but I’m sure its also relevant to PSE8.

  • I Have Elements13 and Apple Yosemite:  When I open the organizer, import and select folder it locks up.

I am using PS Elements 13 with Apple Yosemite.   When I open the Organizer, import and select folder, it locks up.

I Did what you said.  But when I click on Folders and try to open  a sub folder it still locks up. All of the media I have opened is not divided into folder. Is there any way to remove all of them and start over?   I have been using Bridge with PSE13 and it work great.  With Organizer I get missing files. My organizer PSE12 works ok on my laptop.

  • Import function LR3...

    Hi, Guys.
I think theres a bug in LR3s import function. I have had som problem with importing from my camera (SD card) that i didn't have with LR2. Some of the files, not all, is marked as " photo missing" although they have been imported and stored in correct folder, they just don't appear in LR. When i right click and find the file it's no problem, but i have to do it file by file and that sucks. Is there anyone who had the same problem or know how to solve it?
    -Jens-

I did rename the file, but in the same way i did in LR2. The strange thing is that about 7 files of 50 in the last import are ok, but the rest of the files i have to re-import or find individually.

  • PE8 does not show MTS still frame as thumbnail in Organizer

I am importing some MTS footage into organizer but PE8 does not show the still frame as the thumbnail. All clips have a generic film tape Icon instead.  Why? The clips are properly available though.

Had the same problem. A pain.
I renamed the clip in the organizer window to something comprehendible (Birthday_cake.MTS!)
You could export it to some other format (MPEG2) that shows the thumbnail and then import it if you want a longer approach.
