Missing tool bars revisited

I just installed Freehand 11.0.2, the graphic axe I've been
using for at least five years through various upgrades, after
having removed all traces of a previous installation of ALL the
programs in my MX 2004 suite to start over with a pure,
Macromedia-free set up (sigh). While the Macromedia disk used for
the install tested fine on another XP SP2 computer, on mine the
very first run of the program opens with problems: the particularly
ugly shades o' gray Welcome to Freehand" blurb on screen one (on my
two screen system) and a blank Freehand window on screen two (not
under the blurb on screen one where it should be) - and the blank
window has NO new blank file opened inside, and no tool bars or
palettes either.
Opening a new file from the menu doesn't do anything but
present a new file - still no palettes or panels, despite both
being turned on for viewing in the menus (and they all work from
right-click). I've tried ALL of the fixes provided by Adobe in Tech
note 13186 as suggested by Judy Arndt earlier, to no avail. Even
reconfigured my system to one-screen-only as a test. Nope.
Because the program appears to perform correctly on other
systems I thought the problem must be with my system. But I have no
other pallete or tool bar issues with other apps in my "designer's
toolbox" and specifically none with the other programs in the MX
2004 suite and anyway, Freehand isn't even painting it's own
automatic new install/first-run opening screens correctly, a step
so early in the first-run process that it's hard to believe
anything significant already resident on my computer is mucking it
up.
I have to think there's a snippet of code somewhere that
Freehand (and apparently Freehand alone) references first thing
when it starts up, and that snippet's corrupt. Needless to say, I
haven't a clue about how to attack that. Would really appreciate
help from any propeller head out there... and thanks in advance.
I'll even tackle Registry changes without a backup first (gasp!) if
I have to.
Jim

FreeHand has Show/Hide Panels and Show/Hide Toolbars
commands. The keyboard
shortcuts work as an on/off toggle.
I wonder if something on your PC system is sending FH the
Hide commands. To
test this theory, customize your keyboard shortcuts for
View>Panels and
View>Toolbars. Try one of the F-keys with no modifier.
Mac users have had a similar problem for Show/Hide Grids and
Show/Hide
Guides, where new customized shortcuts work around the issue.

  • Missing tool bar

Hello, just upgraded form Windows XP to Win 8 (wow, what change!) Finally got my internet set up, but can't find or figure out how or where the tool bar is to set up my favorites/book marks. I tried right ckicking the top by where you sign in and I get a drop down thingy with the pervious pages I was on. Any suggestions?

What browser are you using? If you just set up Windows 8 I would *guess* you're in IE9, but that would just be a guess.
Let us know and someone will probably be able to walk you through displaying your Favorites Bar.
(I'm no help if it is IE9, since I don't have it. My recommendation would be to download Chrome, but I'm biased like that.  )

  • Missing tools bars for structured authoring in Framemaker 11

I am watching a couple of videos for converting a Framemaker document to DITA.  I notice that in the videos there are several new toolbars available:
    Element
    StructureTools
    DITA
    S1000D
I am not seeing any of these toolbars when I open Framemaker 11.  Any idea what's going on.
    Thanks
    Liz

Definitely not stupid. It's a common question.
I wish Adobe would eliminate the switch from structured to unstructured. It just causes confusion. You can work on unstructured files perfectly well with the structured interface. Just switch to structured mode and leave it there .. no need to switch back and forth.
If anything, Adobe should add the ability to easily customize the menus that are available so you can turn off menus that you don't use. This would have the same effect as the interface switching, but seems more sensible to me.

  • CS5 missing tool bar

Hi, This is what my screen looks like. I cannot get the toolbar despite countless Google searchs and requests.
I have tried using a new workspace, I have tried tab, and esc then tab. I have tried other things, although as I was following instructions (and I've been doing this for the past two weeks) I'm not sure what they were. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

Rather than continue a private message converstion in parallel, we should also be continuing that here.
Your last message said this worked inthe summer. Have you updated the Operating system to a new version since then? I don't recall if you said you had replaced the prefs. If not, see Replace Your Preferences
There is enough stuff that you say you cannot find in the ID menus to make me think the program is damaged and you need to reinstall, but before we go that far, lets also try creating a new account on the mack and log in with that, then see if ID is working properly.

Iam missing tool bar for font, style and size and color. where is it?

Are you sure you have the regular horizontal or vertical type tool and not one of the type masks selected? If you choose the type mask tools you see a dotted outline around the T icon instead of a solid T.

  • Missing preferences, tool bars, menu items after receiving CS3 file while I have CS2

    I have Indesign CS2. I rec'd a CS3 file not knowing it was CS3. A message appeared as follows:
Cannot Open. Please upgrade your plugins to the latest versions, or upgrade to the latest edition of Indesign.
I went into HELP, Configure plugins. Chose "all" and "required" plugins. I then clicked ok and it said "All plugins available when you restart application" and it still wouldn't open. Then I was sent an exchange version of the same file and it still wouldn't open. I received this message:
Cannot open. InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing or the file may be open in another application.
After this I wasn't able to get my CS2 screen back the way it was before. There's no introduction when I open the program, my tool bars aren't present, and the menu items aren't as extensive as they were before.
It was then suggested I reinstall Cs2. I logged in under the administrator. CS2 was different than the way I had it before but the tool bars were present. I then logged in under my name and there are still problems;no tool bars, missing menu items, no intro, etc.
    I then tried rebuilding my preferences using these instructions;
The fastest way to do this for InDesign CS2 (and any CS2 program) is to quit the program, then hold down Command-Option-Shift-Control immediately after starting it up again, and keep those keys held down. (On Windows, hold down Control-Alt-Shift.)
If you mashed on those keys quickly enough, youll get an alert when the splash screen appears offering to Delete InDesign Preferences File?. Click Yes, but dont release the modifier keys while you do so, because youre going to get a second alert to which you should also click Yes.
Now you can release the keys and InDesign will complete the boot-up process with fresh, clean Preferences.
Nothing happened so my program is still missing preferences, menu items and toolbars. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Operating System Windows XP Professional
    Dell Precision 360

First, you need to realize that resetting preferences will put them back to ground zero, not the way they were the last time you were happy.
You can try the key combination again and see if you are any faster (we're talking near instantaneous) or you can open your user profile, show hidden files and folders and navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Adobe\InDesign\Version 4.0 and rename the two files InDesign Defaults and InDesign SavedData.
In your case, a better first option, I think, would be to try System Restore which you'll find in System Tools under the Programs > Accessories heading on the start menu. Go back to the first restore point before you tried to open the file, if you can.
In any case, for you to open a CS3 .inx file you will need to be fully patched the the last CS2 update, and you should expect to see some text reflow issues, as well as missing any CS3 features that the author used which aren't supported in CS2.

  • CR Viewer tool bar images are missing; Export and Print are not working

    Hi There
I used Crystal report 10.5(VS 2008 base crytal report -- CRRedist2008_x86.msi), i developed ASP.net application using VB.net  program(i used .net 3.5). One of the pages in the application is having crystal report viewer, which is calling a crystal report to populate the result. The report is working as expected on development machine (Win Vista). Hence, I moved the application onto Server (Windows Server Web; 32Bit OS and IIS). I installed the CRRedist2008_x86.msi, which added the "aspnet_client" under default website. As my site is a made as an application under default webiste. I tried...
    a) By copying the aspnet_client folder into the website folder
    b) By adding a virtual directory called "aspnet_client" under my website pointing it into the folder under "default website"
None of the trials are working for me.
When I click on Print or Export buttons (although their images are missing), I get the error sigh on bottom left (status bar) of the browser and the popping up the same giving me below error details

    Hello All.
I am excited to let you know that the issue is being resolved.
Here is steps that lead me to resolution and solution..
I installed Fiddler2 and looked into every the debugging details of the transaction while running the report.
Learned that the crystal report is using the aspnet_client foler under "Default website" NOT under the crrent website.
Hence I tried to access the image via http path from local machine
    http://myserver/aspnet_client/system_web/2_0_50727/CrystalReportWebFormViewer4/images/toolbar/export.gif.
(Notice, "mysite" folder is been removed)
I was expecting to see the gif on my browsers' body. It gave me an error.
Investigated further more on the error and found that the "Managed Pipe Line" of the respective application pool is to be changed to "Classic" instead of "Integrated"
    changed it .. Boom...
Tool bar is showing up with proper images and as well the "Export" and "Print" functions are working as expected..
Hope this helps to those in the same situation.
Again.. this is one of many many solutions on this issues.
    Thank You

  • Preview "pop up" tool bar missing

I am not sure if I mistaken changed a setting, but when previously working in preview if I scrolled to the bottom of the pdf a little pop image would show giving me options to save, print etc. It's now missing. The only way now to print is using the static tool bar in Preview or doing file print. Does anybody know if they removed this feature?

Thanks but it's not the main toolbar at the top of the mail window.  It's the "mini toolbar" that appears within an email message as shown below.  Sometimes it shows up so that I can click to reply, forward, or trash and sometimes no matter how what I try, it won't show up.

  • The icons on the tool bar to the right (Bluetooth, time, volume etc) are missing. How do I restore them? Do I have to use my installer discs again?

I started up my iMac G5 this morning, and all the icons to the right end of the tool bar are missing, namely time counter, bluetooth logo, volume slider etc
are missing. Do I have to re-install the startup disc to get them back?

For Bluetooth, Time and volume, go to System Preferences and click on them there, select "show in Menu Bar" you will then see them in the Menu/tool bar again.

  • Tool bars missing advisor says 'hold key down - What KEY???

My tool bars went missing, so I went to help. The advise said this is a 'new' feature [who needs this???] It also said I could restore the tool bars that I didn't ask to lose by holding 'the key' down and pressing V T etc at the same time. But, My key board probably has 50 odd keys on it. Which one of these is the magic key, so I can restore features I had set up the way I wanted in the first place. BTW, if this is an 'Improvement' please, don't try to fix what ain't broke - some of us like Mozilla because it is easy to use. I could always go with Explorer if I want gimmicks that accomplish nothing, but frustrating the user.

Reference to the option key was found in the instructions to Reset toolbars and controls from support Mozilla.
Thank you for the info. Pressing the alt key does produce the tool bar temporarily. I can use bookmarks if I act quickly before the toolbar disappears. With your info I will go back and try to get the toolbar back permanently.

  • When composing new email (gmail) tool bar showing fonts, colors, bold, italics, underline, etc. is missing? When using Internet Explorer the bar is there.

When using Firefox, the tool bar above the "compose mail" window is missing. I cannot change fonts, use bold, italics, underline, change colors, align margins, etc. When using Internet Explorer the bar IS there but I prefer Firefox, as it is much faster. My operating system is Vista.

Thanks Tony T1, I have tried using the Mail -> Format drop downs...
... and using the format toolbar...
... and in both cases, Bold and Italic is greyed out... (bit hard to see in the second screenshot, but it is, honest!)
The mail message is def set as Rich Text, which you can see in the first screenshot, as the option to Make Plain Text is there...
