Missing top toolbar - File Edit....

The top toolbar containing File Edit View Document Tools Windows Help is missing - both when I start Adobe Reader 9 from Start | Programs | Adobe Reader 9 and when I open a pdf and select Adobe Reader 9 to open then document. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it and that does not help. I also saw a previous thread recommending using F9 - that also did not help.

That's the OSs menubar. Step one is to open Activity Monitor and force quit the WindowServer process. If that doesn't do the trick, log into a newly created admin user account and see if the problem persists. If so, then I suspect Word might be hosed and you should reinstall it.

F9. Some documents hide the menu bar deliberately, or you could have hit F9 by accident.

  • I have Adobe Pro X and use a PC.  My menu toolbar (file, edit, view, etc) is missing.  I tried to reset the toolbars and nothing happened.

Press the F9 key to toggle the menu bar on and off. A PDF can contain a setting that will hide the menu bar automatically, which I find very annoying, but you can turn this off with the following preference: Edit > Preferences > Documents > Allow documents to hide the menu bar...

'''Menu Bar''' (File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, Help)
Press ALT+ V T M (CTRL+V T M on Macs) on your keyboard. This should restore the menu bar (Firefox 3.6)
    '''Other toolbars'''
    View|Toolbars|Select the desired Toolbar
    '''Other steps to try'''
Try restoring the default set by going to View|Toolbars|Customize| Restore Default Set. This will put the toolbars back in the default place
    '''Safe Mode'''
You May need to reset toolbars and controls via [[Safe Mode]]
Make sure you completely close Firefox first. When you get to the Safe Mode window, select Reset toolbars and controls and then Make Changes and Restart.
    Hope this helps!

  • The tool bar at the top disappeared (file, edit, view, favorites, tools etc). How do I get it back?

I even loaded the beta4 version to see if that would shake the apple out of the tree, and no luck. There appears to be no tab/button anywhere on the screen to bring it back

Be careful with using the Firefox 4 beta version on your current Firefox 3.6 profile folder as it can modify (upgrade) files and make them incompatible with Firefox 3.6 or can otherwise cause problems at a later time.
In Firefox 3.6 and later on Windows you can hide the "Menu Bar" via "View > Toolbars" or via the right-click context menu on a toolbar.
Press F10 or press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.
Go to "View > Toolbars" or right-click the "Menu Bar" or press Alt+V T to select which toolbars to show or hide (click on an entry to toggle the state).

  • After updating to FF4 I've lost my toolbar (file, edit, etc).

This morning when I turned on the computer it ask me to update to FireFox #4. I did. Now when I'm in my e-mail there is no toolbar available at the top of the screen. It moved my bookmarks to the extreme right (used to be on the toolbar mid-left). I would rather have the toolbar than the update. Can I go back?

    I've disabled add-ons. I started in safe-mode. I cannot get the menu-bar up.
I've used FF for years. but its becoming more like IE all the time and I hate this FF4, I can't get any tool-bars up at all.
If i click on the menu bar ..it just removes it but never opens it, if that makes sense.

  • I would like to enlarge the text in the firefox 6.0.2 toolbar. (file, edit, view, etc.)

The Firefox toolbar is rather small and sometimes hard to read depending upon the circumstances. I would like to enlarge the toolbar and text to double its present size. How do I do so?

To change the interface text size (including the Menu Bar), install the following Add-on.

  • I don't have a Firefox Tab. Instead I still have remnants of the old Firefox tabs in my upper left corner (file, edit, view, history, etc.). I also don't have a home button or a private browsing botton in my toolbar, do I need to install these my self?

My operating system is windows vista. I update my Adobe plugins to be current. What else should I do?

It had a tool bar at the top with File, Edit, View, History, bookmarks, etc.
Right-click an empty area of the tab bar and check "Menu Bar".
Your bookmarks are accessible from the Bookmarks button on the navigation toolbar. It's the wide button on the right side of the address bar with a star to its left.
Your history is accessible from the History button under the ≡ Menu Button panel. You can right-click an empty area of the tab bar and choose Customize, then drag the History button onto the navigation toolbar if you like (that's the area with the Back/Forward buttons and the address bar).
If you'd like to completely revert Firefox's appearance, install the Classic Theme Restorer add-on and restart Firefox when prompted.

  • I was messing with the computer, not sure what i hit but now all my toolbars at the top of the screen are gone? (file, edit, history, tools and my forward and back button). Please help me get these settings back to the way they were?

My file, edit, view, history, bookmarks, tools, and help buttons at the top of the screen are gone, along with my forward and back button.

For details of how to restore it, see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/menu+bar+is+missing
Once the menu bar is restored, you can use the Toolbars entry in the View menu to restore other toolbars such as the navigation toolbar.
