Missing Trash and folders in Mail

Hello all.
not sure what happened, on my left bar... all I have left is "inbox" and "Sent"
no more Trash, Draft and Junk folders..
how do I get my trash back?
I tried delete the com.apple.mail.plist but no help
please help.

I just ran across this same problem (but only with the Trash folder). I was able to assign a folder to be Trash, but as soon as I did it would disappear. Nonetheless, it worked - deleted items really went to that folder on the server, but I had no way of viewing it in Mail.app.
I tried everything, clearing out the com.apple.mail.plist and ~/Library/Mail, but even on a fresh install the Trash folder would not show up...
Since the actual functionality was working, but I couldn't see anything, I started to suspect something like corrupt icons. So on a whim I picked View -> Use Small Mailbox Icons, and bang! Trash showed up out of nowhere. I was then able to go back to Large icons and Trash remained.
Strange, eh?

Missing messages and other recent Mail.app quirks

HI,
Although I've read through many post on this issue, I haven't found one that seems to apply to my situation. And, the process seems really confusing... so I thought I'd ask you guy's.
I rebuilt my inbox's last night, and:
1. 1 of my 2 POP inbox's is now empty (except for a couple new mails today). There were about 150 messages.
2. My .mac inbox is receiving mails, but first the little spinner thing wouldn't stop spinning, and has switched to a blue clock looking thing that's stuck at about 10:30 (may have moved to 11:00 now?).
3. Drafts don't seem to be saving.
4. Seems that the audio feedback is gone or was gone (the sound is up and the speakers to work).
5. I was getting a strange error message when sending that I didn't write down (something to do with the Trash and 0 space or something).
I've been on this new machine (OS 10.4.5) since November with no Mail.app (2.0.7) trouble at all (I moved from a TiBook that had once had Panther on it). And, I didn't let this last Security update install. I had been trying to resolve some POP SMTP server issues, but went with .mac with the "reply to" option (I'm stuck in a hotel in southern China), and I did lose one email that I had just sent... which prompted the rebuild of the mailbox's. Still can't find that missing email- but I did get a reply from the person I sent it to.
There weren't many messages in that now empty inbox, but they were the important ones (which I think I located in Library > Mail folder thanks to you folks).
I can survive with issues 2 - 5 above if necessary, but I'd really like to deal with the missing message problem.
Should I just "import mailbox's" back in and hope it all works? Will I lose those new mails from today? Can you offer me any advice?
Sorry if I rambled on too much (too much spare time on a Sunday morning in China), and thank you in advance for any thoughts,

Different answers for each file. The CachedData1 is a leftover file from an IMAP or .mac account -- Mail no longer uses that method of caching, so delete.
The two MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded are used with each POP account, and are still valid file types -- however, one of them should be modified each time you access your POP server -- check the dates modified again.
The two files named to begin with Incoming are leftovers, and probably must simply be deleted. They resulted in the mailbox where you found them when a message had been received (even if by transfer) and that mailbox was not opened prior to the conversion. In Panther, and earlier, these files would disappear when the mailbox was opened to view. It probably is only one or two messages -- the Incoming_Mail file can be read with TextEdit to confirm.
I think the Envelope Index Journal results during an incomplete indexing attempt Mail has made at some point, was meant to be temporary -- I am not entirely sure about this, but I do not have one.
The time out on port zero is one I need to research -- although I have seen a few reports, and think there is some explanation, I cannot remember as I write this.
There is an ongoing issue with .mac and continuation of the indicator for activity -- I see this on my iBook G4, but not on my G5. Useless needed for Offline use, set Mail Preferences/Accounts/Advanced to Don't save all message and attachment for Offline viewing, which may help. I hope this one get addressed in some future update.

Mailboxes and Folders in Mail

Does anyone know why mail creates folders for my IMAP accounts named "Deleted Messages", "Junk", "Sent" etc. I already have these setup as mailboxes at the top of mail and folders don't seem to mirrow my mailboxes just have a small selection of random emails.
Mail seems to create these folders for each mailbox I create and I'm wondering if I can safely delete them?

don't delete those mailboxes. Mail didn't create them. those are mailboxes created on the server at the moment your email account was first created. they are used for example when you access your account from webmail. you can use them instead of the mailboxes that Mail set up later. say, select "sent" mailbox in the imap section at the bottom. then go to mailbox menu->use this mailbox for->sent.

Spotlight missing files and folders?

Spotlight consistently misses certain files and entire folders, which I can find by rummaging through my finder, but can't find by searching in Spotlight. No these are not hidden files or library folders. Yes I have checked my privacy settings and used the privacy options to re-index spotlight. Why would Spotlight miss certain folders? Does it only search to a certain depth? How can I get Spotlight to search these folders?

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:

In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post any other kind of diagnostic report, such as hang logs—they're very long and not helpful.

Help needed to retrieve missing messages and folders; though items still present

Something happened, but I am not sure what.
TB had difficulty loading, and then afterwards one of my folders [ a sub-folder of Inbox ] was duplicated, and all of its sub-folders were missing.
if I search for a keyword to locate a message w/in on of the sub,sub folders , I find the messages ARE listed in the results panel, and the filter dialogue on the left side lists the folder name [ that is missing ] that they were in. However if I click on the message to load it in a new tab, the tab is blank
I tried the 'properties;repair folder' but I get only a 'busy' symbol [ spinning green circle ] and no eventual change.
Help!

Welcome to Nokia Support Discussions!
What you could do is to install the latest Nokia Suite beta, which can upload your contacts to Skydrive. When you get your Lumia 900, you can just use that Microsoft account as your main account and the contact data should be there waiting for you. Unfortunately, it is not possible to transfer your messages to a Lumia phone, you can however store your existing messages on Nokia Suite.
When connecting your phone to your computer (using a USB cable), press the menu button, as it will set up your phone in Nokia Suite mode. After this you should be able to access your phone data and upload it to Skydrive.

Missing files and folders

I saved some files to the desktop a few days ago, when I switched on my mac the files had disappeared. Tried to locate them using find and spotlight but it looks like they have vanished altogether! Also I can't save anything to the desktop (when I try to do this the save button is greyed out). Tried to create a folder on the desktop to store some photos in but was not allowed to create a folder here and was told that I do not have the priveledges to allow me to do this.
Help!!!

Is it possible to retrieve missing files and folders from lightroom?

Can anyone help me please? I was in the process of editing a folder took a break for dinner. I did the normal close the window ( it did not ask me to back up sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't ) and then shut off my computer. I turned it back on and opened Lr and my last 4 photo sessions are gone ! This is the 3rd time this has happened to me, if i wasn't almost 50 images into this edit id say nbd but i've shown sneak peek previews of already edited images that she'll be expecting off her 7 yes 7 children 3 of which are premie identical triplet boys. They are a one in a million senario i dont want to be responsible for any disappointment to this lovely family! Please help me if you know how i cant imagine starting over on this one!

LR normally performs a catalog backup unless you changed it. That backup would be in the "Lightroom" folder in My Pictures, again unless you previously changed it. Go to the Catalog settings > general. This will tell you how often the catalog is backed up. Click the "Show" button to see where the main catalog is. Open that folder and you should see a "Backup" folder. If your LR has been set to periodically backup, you should see the latest backup catalog. This may be what you will need to use if the main catalog is indeed missing. The latest session may not be there, depending on how often your LR was set to backup.

I am using gmail w/iphone and 2 macs. Should my mails and folders under mail all be in sync? They aren't. Also AOL is merged in there too.

I primarily use Gmail. I have set up my system so that all my email accounts integrate into Gmail.
I then move them to folders as appropriate.
I have a Mac desktop, Iphone and Air.
What would keep these devices from not all having the same folders conaining the same emails.
Also, some emails sow up on sme devices and some dont and all the accounts are properly set up on all the devices.
When I delete on one, does it remove it from all, etc.
Very frustrated.

Missing accounts and folders with messages. POP3 protocol

Updates and settings were not.

Outlook uses a Microsoft-specific protocol called MAPI. And your statement that your server doesn't support IMAP isn't quite correct. MS Exchange does support IMAP, but you have to ask the administrator to switch on IMAP support. The default setup for Exchange has it turned off.

My startup disc is full and I want to find out the size of trash and junk in mailbox before dumping trash & junk

I have gotten this message saying that my startup disc is full.
I know I need to dump the trash can on my home screen and I have done that.
I know that there is both trash and junk in my mail app that I will dump also but I am curious as to the size of the trash and junk in mail but I don’t see how to find the sizes.
Its nice that the Junk tells me that there are 739 messages but it doesn’t say what the size of all of them is.
Do you know how i can see what the file sizes are for trash and Junk in Mail?
I know I can just delete them and see how much this yellow bar decreases but that seems like a crude way to see what the file sizes are that I have deleted.
If you have an answer for how to find out the file sizes of the Mail trash and junk I would like to know how to do it.
I have the latest version 10.9.4 on my Mac Air.

Missing photo and "attempt to perform arithmetic" error

Hi y'all
This is informational for y'all.
I've been using Lightroom since the beginning of march and have about 4500 photos in my library. Photos are pentax raw files (*.pef). My machine is a windows XP pro Toshiba laptop and XP is fully updated. I've started having a couple of problems which I believe may be related. I've searched the usual places but haven't been able to find any answers.
1) I have one photo that doesn't display in any of the views (library - grid and zoomed, develop and slideshow). It displays as a blank space in all views. It becomes visible in grid view with my develop changes (I made it grayscale) if I scroll to where it is when it is off the page but disappears again as soon as I let go of the scroll bar. If I try to reimport it I get a message that it is already in the database.
2) If I continue to to try and access it I start getting the following error in a pop up box:
?:0 attempt to perform arithmetic on field ? (a nil value)
once that starts occurring I can cancel the popup but then it starts to appear everytime I try and do anything (flag or rate a photo, access a menu etc) and can only be made to go away if I close Lightroom using task manager and then restart it.
The photo is stored on an external disk and the actual pef file appears to be fine. I can open it successfully using rawshooter.
I transfered the files to my external disk when using the beta and did so manually outside of lightroom and then used the locate missing files and folders function to relink it. It has what looks like a valid xmp file and all other photos in the shoot appear fine.
I eventually managed to bring the photo back by deleting the folder from the lightroom library (but not from the disk!) and reimporting it. As xmp files were present all changes and ratings were correct when I reimported.

It sounds like you might have a corrupted preset.
Here's something you could try:
Go to your Preferences/Presets tab and push the Show Lightroom Presets Folder button.
Then close Lightroom and temporarily rename that folder. If the problem goes away, one of your presets is bad. Otherwise name the folder back to what it was and let us know what happened.

It is possible it just hasn' updated yet.
Try resetting:
Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons and don’t let go until the screen goes dark and the Apple logo appears (no data will be lost)

Trash and Send . I have a new IPAD 2 and I do not have any of my e mails in the send and trash folders. I have had the IPAD about three weeks and have sent and deleted many e mails. Do I have some wrong settings or configuration problem??

Once you connect to the Wifi Network once, then the iPhone or iPad remembers it and attempts to connect automatically in the future, but you have to tap to connect to that Wifi the first time. Like the first time you get on your home wifi, or the first time you go the a certain hotel, etc.

Lately, when I delete e-mails, and clear my Trash folder, they re-appear, downloaded anew from the server and marked as unread. My e-mail Advanced Settings are selected for "Remove from server when moved from Inbox." Even when I access the e-mail accountfrom my desktop and delete the e-mails, the re-appear on my iPad. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this and what I can do to actually delete them?

Sounds like you are looking in the wrong Administrative Group container which is why you are seeing your Exchange 2010 servers in there.
When you install Exchange 2003 only you will see a container named by default as "CN=First Administrative Group" container. But this could be named anything if you changed the Organization Name on the installation when you installed the first
Exchange 2003 server into the domain/forest.
You will notice that when you install Exchange 2010 part of the AD setup is to create a new configuration container and is named by default "CN=First Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)".
So it sounds like you are not looking in the right location within ADSIEdit.

I recommend though that you ensure your Exchange 2003 servers are fully uninstalled or no longer present in your environment before you go deleting the Servers container though.. The following Microsoft article will help with this:
