  • Xproto-7.0.14-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz File unavailable

Right after a fresh installation and "pacman -Syu" I'm running "pacman -Sy nvidia" now.
It doesn't find the xproto file anywhere, although I can see them when I browse the
repos directly. I noticed that this file is in [testing] and uncommented those two lines
    in pacman.conf.
    Any idea?

Same problem, if i look here the package is present, but if i look here it isn't.

  • Information about updated packages

Often when I update my system I want to know what changes have been made to a specific package. Does arch have this information somewhere? On other distros there are places you can look up what the new changes are to a package. It would be good to know if the updated package is just a new build from upstream, a change in the configuration, or a patch to fix some security flaw. For certain things like kernel updates or binutils I can get paranoid upgrading and would just like to read some change log.
It seems like the most logical places for this in my mind would be a flag to pacman when doing -Suy or perhaps information about the update on the RSS feed for new packages.

f4hy wrote:The -Qc option is great for the limited packages that have changelogs, but at that point it is a bit too late. It would be nice to know what will be changed BEFORE upgrading the package. A flag to pacman to give the equivalent of -Qc but for --sync would be nice, unfortunately -c is already used :-\
You can query packages before they are installed, you just have to point it to a file with -Qcp.
The file must be local, which means downloading it first.

A data packet is either sent with transfer method IDoc or PSA to BI. You have the option here of viewing the data received and of editing it where necessary, of posting the data packet in simulation, and of canceling in simulation, and, if it has not yet been posted successfully, of starting the update manually.

Single message from the processing of a data packet. Some messages contain references to application logs or other requests. The monitor then allows corresponding jumps.
    4)Processing End
see also Data packet processing steps
If the processing of a data packet has been finished then any error messages for each process in the step up until this point are delivered to the monitor and to the called program (in the case of transferring by IDoc thus to the IDoc management). If no errors arose then a success message is logged per process.
    Messages from source system
    see also Processing Steps Request
These messages are sent by IDoc from the source system. Both the extractor itself as well as the service API can send messages. When errors occur, several messages are usually sent together.
From the source system, there are several types of messages that can be differentiated by the so-called Info-IDoc-Status. The IDoc with status 2 plays a particular role here; it describes the number of records that have been extracted in a source system and sent to BI. The number of the records received in BI is checked against this information.

  • SUS - not only missing updates, but also hiding some...

    Hi *,
i have the same problem with OSX SUS on 10.6.2 as described in several threads within this forum... with some add-on: not only that SUS is missing some of the updates available on Apple's public SUS service, it seems that at least one of the missing updates shows up in an intermitting way.
In Server-Admin / Software Update Service / Updates the package "Final Cut Server Update" V1.5.1 of 11/24/09 does not appear on the list of available updates, unless i press the tiny rescan button which is located just below the list of update package. When i press it, the "Final Cut Server Update" appears immediately on the list. BUT it doesn't show up persistently -> when i switch in Server Admin over to another Service, e.g. SMB, and toggle the scope back to SUS, then all the packages which had been shown before toggling are displayed again, except that "Final Cut Server Update" is missing again.
Really weird behaviour... hope that Apple fixes that soon, SUS is one of the major reason's why i'm running a MacMini Server @ home - i'm sitting with four Macs on a tiny network connect.
    Regards, KS

I'm with you on this. Have really tried to get SUS running as I can really see the benefit, including resetting it completely several times.
Thought I had it working, but now realised that even though the latest version of Safari 4.0.4 is downloaded and enabled, clients are reporting they are up to date (They have Safari 4.0.3).
The OS 10.6.2 update downloaded correctly - so why not this?
There are some serious flaws with SUS. Even the way you have to specify the server path is wrong if you ask me. Why can't there be a browse button? Why do you have to remember / look up what the correct filename is for the sucatalog depending on the OS version. Seems rather clunky to me.

  • Creating Software Update Packages - Best Practice?

I am setting up our SCCM 2012 R2 environment to begin using it for Windows Updates, however I'm not sure 100% the best method of setting it up.
Currently my plan is to break out the deployment packages by OS, but I read\told that I should avoid creating to many dynamic deployment packages, as every time it changes all the computers will re-scan that package.  So What I want to do is create
various packages for OS and years, so I would have a package that contains all updates for Windows 7, older then January 31, 2013 (assuming the package doesn't have 1000+ updates), and are not superseded\Expired. Then I would create Packages for the 2014
monthly updates each month, then at the end 2014, combine them all in 1 package, and restart the process for 2015.  Is this a sound plan or is there a better course of action?
If this the best practice method, is there any way to automatically create these packages?  I tried the Automatic Deployment Rules, but I can not set a Year of release, only the a time frame of the release,(older then 9 Months), unless I am missing
something.  The only way I can see doing this is going into All Software Updates, and filtering on my requirements, and then manually creating the package, but this would less desirable, as after each year I would like to remove the superseded and expired
without having to recreate the package.
    Mark.

First, please learn what the different objects are -- not trying to be rude, just stating that if you don't do this, you will have fundamental issues. Packages are effectively meaningless when it comes to deploying updates. Packages are simply a way of grouping
the binary files so they can be distributed to DPs and in-turn made available to clients. The package an update is in is irrelevant. Also, you do not "deploy" update packages and packages are not scanned by clients. The terminology is very important because
there are implications that go along with it).
What you are actually talking about above are software update groups. These are separate and distinct objects from update packages. Software Update groups group updates (not the update binaries) into logical groups that can be in-turn deployed or used for
    compliance reporting.
Thus, you have two different containers that you need to be concerned about, update packages and update groups. As mentioned, the update package an update is in is pretty meaningless as long as the update is in a package that is also available to the clients
that need it. Thus, the best way (IMO) to organize packages is by calendar period. Yearly or semi-annually usually works well. This is done more less to avoid putting all the updates into a single package that could get corrupted or will be difficult to deploy
    to new DPs.
As for update groups, IMO, the best way is to create a new group every month for each class of products. This typically equates to one for servers, one for workstations, and one for Office every month. Then at the end of every year (or some other timeframe),
rolling these monthly updates into a larger update group. Keep in mind that a single update group can have no more than 1,000 updates in it though. (There is no explicit limit on packages at all except see my comments above about not wanting one huge package
    for all updates.)
Initially populating packages (like 2009, 2010, 2011, etc) is a manual process as is populating the update groups. From then on, you can use an ADR (or really three: one for workstations, one for servers, and one for Office) that runs every month, scans
for updates released in the past month, and creates a new update group.
Depending upon your update process, you may have to go back and add additional deployments to each update group also, but that won't take too long. Also, always QC your update groups created by an ADR. You don't want IE11 slipping through if it will break
    your main LOB application.

  • WSUS lists app. 178 missing updates for the Windows 8/8.1 clients, but the clients report that no updates are necessary

We are operating a small network consisting of a SBS 2011 and a few clients, most of which operate WXP and W7. Some time ago we converted the first client to W8 and noticed, that WSUS reported a big number of missing updates (all being language packs and
language interface packs), which the client never pulls, as from its perspective everything is in best order. When searching for updates over the internet the client again does not detect anything missing.
We first thought of an issue with this single W8 client, as neither the WXP nor the W7 machines show the same phenomenon, but recently we introduced the first two W8.1 clients, and interestingly we saw the same problem. The question now is, why
does WSUS believe that these updates were necessary whilst the clients themselves are convinced that everything is fine? And who is right, WSUS or W8/8.1? (I tend to believe the clients, though.)
    Best regards, Dietmar.

why does WSUS believe that these updates were necessary whilst the clients themselves are convinced that everything is fine?
Because you're misinterpreting the meaning of the state "Needed"...
which is discussed elsewhere in this forum ad naseum.
And you're making the mistake of trying to compare information with WU with information from WSUS. The two are not comparable.

  • Root partition suddenly full while updating packages with Pacman

    Hello
I'm not sure if this is a problem with Pacman, but my root partition seems to have become completely full while updating my system using pacman -Syu. Before updating anything, there seems to have been an update to a new version of Pacman (3.3.1-1) that needed to be installed before updating packages.
In the middle of the updates, I got this error:
error: error writing to file '/var/cache/pacman/pkg/openoffice-base-3.1.1-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz': No space left on device
Also, I don't know if this is related, but I got a lot of 'not found' errors after that.

Also, I haven't restarted my system yet. Should I try and see what happens?
    Thanks!

This happened to me recently. I could not restart my laptop properly due to lack of space on my root partition.
The error during boot was along the lines of:-
Starting D-BUS system messagebus   - Failed
Failed to start message bus: Failed to close "var/run/dbus.pid": No space left on drive
    Hardware Abstraction Layer - Failed
everything else during the boot was as normal till I started to type in my username - but couldn't because the keyboard was inactive.
I used a Wolvix live CD to investigate and found a QT4 file in the packman cache which was 6.9GB in size (compared to the normal 27mb size). Once that was deleted and the drive/partition error checked everything was back to normal. So before you reboot I would definitely recommend clearing any oversize file out of your packman cache, or just clearing the whole cache.

  • Problem with update packages MDT

Hi, when i build boot image with update packages the mdt it give me a error
    Error: 0x800f081e
The specified package is not applicable to this image.
    Exit code = -2146498530
The wim file is take from win 7 italian iso x64, the updates I push in mdt are the same that I install on test machine with italian iso.
I think the problem is in some script of mdt when "update deployment share"

The only update that I recall being required for WAIK 3 was the advanced format drive patch (Unless you have the WAIK 3.1 update in which case it is unneeded).
So can you post the output that is failing?  Specifically when you choose Update Deployment Share and it is building the boot wims can you select 'Save Output' and post that output here?
What version of MDT are you using?

  • What is you favourite program to update packages installed by aur?

I used aurbuild, but I saw there are many... So what is your pacman for AUR? And overall why?

i just scripted the wget / tar / makepkg / pacman -U process with prompts between each step.  it also starts with a lynx aur google search to get the package name.

    #!/bin/bash

  • Why distribute Software Update Packages to DP's?

I recently integrated WSUS with SCCM 2012 and deployed my first update package, I distributed it to our DP's at each of our facilities and then deployed the package. I am seeing results but it looks like all my clients are going directly to the Active
SUP for the updates instead of grabbing them from their DP's (which is causing my admins to flip over bandwidth usage). If the clients can only grab the updates from the SUP itself what is the point of distributing the software update package to them?
Is this things running as intended or should they be looking to their DP's for this? I have already investigated the option of setting up secondary sites and creating downstream SUP's but I am seeing conflicting forum posts mentioning that the DP's should
handle to update downloads so I don't want to commit to reorganizing our SCCM infrastructure when there is a simpler solution to this.

Yes the SUP was previously the Upstream server for our stand alone WSUS environment, when we integrated WSUS with SCCM we cleared the GPO directing PC's where to get updates from so that it would not interfere with the default client policies I have set.
Interesting point about the DP on the SUP, it does have a DP role assigned as it was the DP for our corporate office. I know the boundaries are configured correctly because my software packages are downloaded by the clients from their local DP's, I even double
checked this to make sure they were not assigned to this DP for some reason. We have the CAS set as the fallback point as well so I don't think that is why either. Our CAS has a DP role and could serve as this for our corporate office, would it be worth a
shot to clear the DP role from the SUP server and see if this reassigns the WUA managed server for the clients?
    <![LOG[Enabling WUA Managed server policy to use server: http://NAME OF SUP.DOMAIN.LOCAL:8530]LOG]!><time="08:36:20.522+360" date="02-26-2014" component="WUAHandler" context="" type="1" thread="3924" file="sourcemanager.cpp:938">
That is an excerpt from the WUAHandler.log on one of the clients at a one of our facilities, would this be the correct place to see where it is downloading the update from? My network admin originally tipped me off to this when he was noticing high bandwidth
utilization from our facilities and traced the packets out to our SUP. I edited out the name of the SUP but I know this is the assigned SUP for my Primary site.

  • APPV folder on client pc after pushing Updated package

    1. Currently published package is 125MB.
    2. Updated that package in sequencer. One file of 250KB was changed.
    3. Published updated package to the test computer. Application works fine after update.
    4.  Under Program Data\Appv in package GUID folder second folder appears.
So now there are 2 folders :  for previous and updated one. They are about the same size
    The question:
as I know unpublished package will always "sit" on the user's HD, unless we'll manually remove it.
I have a recommendation link that should help with automation of removal of unpublished package (have to return to it).
Now I have 2 folders in package GUID (about 220MB each). What will happen if I will do another 3 updates with only one 250KB file replaced.
Would it bring another 660MB (3x220) in package GUID folder?
    5. in current situation: if I will unpublish original package from APPVMAN console, can I remove it from the client machine?
Or it will be still necessary for updated folder in package GUID folder.
My question is related to UPDATED packages only.
    Thanks.

    Deets wrote
"Yes, each version of the package that you publish will add another 220MB folder."
Sorry, but  I disagree. When an update is loaded (i.e. the Package GUID remains the same, but the
Version GUID changes), only the modified data (~250) are really added to the new subfolder. All the 'unchanged' other files and folder are just hard links or so to the original file. The bad thing is, that most tools to show directory sizes aren't smart enough
    to see the difference.
When you use a tool like TrueSize (http://www.heise.de/download/cttruesize-d097978e369c27b107b751624dbce77b-1422025920-2650272.html),
German web site) you should see a difference.
When you remove the original version (using the App-V client or even just deleting the folder), NTFS is
smart enough to correct the file tables - so now the 1st folder disappeared, and the new folder _really_ counts 220 MB
