Missing Utility window

When opening Motion I am unable to display the Utility window. I am unable to get to the File Browser, Library and Inspector to display.
How can I get the Utility Window to redisplay?

Adding disc image to Disc Utility window?

Hi there,
I'm trying to burn DVD masters from previously created .cdr files. For some odd reason only a couple of the .cdr s are visible in the Disc Utility window. I've tried dragging the ones I need from a Finder window into the DU window where the others are, according to instructions...
If the disk image you want to use doesn't appear in the list, drag its icon to the Disk Utility window.
... but the images just bounce out. I can drag the ones that are in the DU window out and that throws them away, but can't add it back in then again. Huh?
What am I missing?

Thanks. That seems to work! A bit different than what the Help File instructs you to do though. The strange thing is that some of the .cdr s can in actual fact be dragged in but others cannot. Even thought they were all created by DU and some even during the same work session.
Anyhow. I'm up and running again. Thanks!
PS: what does IIRC stand for?

Disk Utility Window is Blank

On my Macbook Pro the disk utility window does not fully load. Much of the window information is missing and the program is not working at all. If I hide it and unhide it, it becomes a blank white window. It is the only program that does this.

Quit Disk Utility, and navigate to your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Prefernces folder where you will find the com.apple.DiskUtility.plist file. Drag that file to your Desktop, log out/in or restart and check Disk Utility for normal behavior.

Let's start over again.
Open AirPort Utility on your Mac
Are you asked for a password at this point? If yes, enter the base station or device password that you used when you originally set up the AirPort router. Depending when you did this originally, you might have been given an option to use the same password as the wireless network. If you were not, then you have a separate password for the base station.
You need that password to be able to access the settings for the AirPort router in AirPort Utility.
If you see a window listing basic information, click Edit in the upper right corner of the window.
If you are asked for a password, you must enter the device password or base station password that you established when you first set up the AirPort router as explained above.
If you forgot the password, a Soft Reset will allow you to go in and reset the base station password. Might be a good idea to write down that password.
If you are still stuck, then the only option that you have at this point is to perform a Hard Reset to return the settings to factory defaults and then set up the AirPort router again.
If you prefer, you can also do a Factory Default Reset. It's the same as a Hard Reset except for the timing of holding in the reset button.

your MacBook Pro has booted into its Recovery mode. From the OS X Utilities menu, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Does it get to the login screen now?

"Drive is offline" message in Missing Disks window

When I try to open my project I get a Missing Disks window and the message says: To preserve the integrity of the data used by Final Cut Pro HD, it is necessary to ensure the existence of the following path(s): 'Justine's Drive' is offline. The options the window message gives are: "Quit", "Check Again" and the highlighted one is "Reset Scratch Disks" The first window that pops up before the Missing Disks one is an External AV window which says unable to locate the following external devices: Apple FireWire NTSC (720 x 480) Your system configuration may have changed, or your deck/camera may be disconnected or turned off. Please check connections .... And as I have done throughout working on the project after the initial digitizing process with my camera, I have clicked "Continue" on this window but this time the Missing Disks window comes up.
My external drive called "Justine's Drive" is mounted and appears on the desk top. I have tried to dismount and unplug the drive and then to just open/launch Final Cut Pro HD (Academic 4.5) straight from the applications folder in my laptop's hard drive but I get the same messages and Final Cut will not even open independent of the project.
The last time I worked on the computer (yesterday) everything was fine. The only thing is that I transported the laptop and drive to another location. But I had them well protected and didn't drop them or anything...

How do I close the Directory Utility Window?

The Directory Utility window was opened and I have not been able to close it.
Upon restarting, a pop-up message reads that the window must close in order to complete the operation.
Only the minimize (yellow) button is available for click and the Systems Preference window is closed.

Hi, I am having similar problem to other people that I have found on this forum in that on my computer, when Firefox is first installed from fresh, Windows 7 displays the correct icon for htm/html files, but when I restart, these icons are replaced with the generic "I don't know" icons. So far I have tried to fixes this issue with the following methods to fox this issue, none of which have worked:
- rebuilding the icon cache by deleting iconcache.db
- setting defaults programs from Firefox to IE then back to Firefox
- adding the registry keys Old Icon -> FirefoxHTML -> DefaultIcon from HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{42042206-2D85-11D3-8CFF-005004838597} to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{42042206-2D85-11D3-8CFF-005004838597}
- changing the Windows Zoom settings from 100% to 150% and back
- Using the programs Types, to delete and recreate the htm associations.
Also, I know that I have been able to fix this issue before when I have had to reinstall Windows before, but I cannot remember how exactly, aprt from that I did involve editing the registry, but possible not in the way I found on the forum.

1. I deleted registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxHTML\ShellEx\IconHandler (I completely deleted the key, not just set it to no value).

3. I changed the file association from Firefox to Internet Explorer and then from Internet Explorer back to Firefox [ I logged off and on again so that the registry changes would take effect].

Motion won't open new project, won't open utility window in old project

When I try to open Motion from the dock, it gives the license information, but no project opens...it just stays with that opening window.
When I try to open an old project, there is no utility window (no file browser, library, or inspector).
Help!

I tried to do that before, but I couldn't find that plist on the Macintosh HD icon. As per your instructions, I later found that plist file in my home (i.e. 'user') folder.

Bought it brandnew at best buy almost a year ago. I did not make any recovery disc's or flash drive.
It is getting slow and someother minor issues while on internet, so I want to do a Full Reset to facory settings. I have tried the Refresh option and the Reset option. Both come back with error message ;oxc0000001, missing file: Windows\system32\winload.efi
So how do I fix this since I didnt make a recovery or start up discs? I can reboot the computer just fine, I just cant do a computer reset.
I am running Windows 8.1, came installed with windows 8, I upgrade to 8.1 shortly after I bought it.

Obtain them from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here. See the instructions in the section Restoring from recovery media, which begins on p. 60 of the User's Guide.

Im having scanner issue suddenly! Im trying to quit my printer utility window so I can restart my mac and it won't let me quit. I hit escape and quit multiple times and it won't go away. To back up your data, either use Target Disk Mode and a cable from another Mac (which mounts your problem Mac as an external disk of the other Mac) and Disk Utility on that other Mac, or — and this is all assuming you either have a slow Internet connection and don't want to use Internet Recovery, or if you have an older Mac that doesn't support Internet Recovery — you can create a bootable USB key disk on another Mac and then boot your problematic Mac from that keydisk, then use Disk Utility from the installer to make a backup to another (external) (scratch) disk. You can also use that keydisk to reinstall OS X, to repair or to reinstall OS X.
