Missing .wmv .movie files on conversion to Mac

I recently upgraded to a mac OSX 10.8.4 and have loaded Photoshop Elements 10.  I am trying to find a number of movie files that are .wmv files.
There are about 10 files in all.  I have them all saved in a folder MacintoshHD/Users/saved files.  About 5 came across successfully to PSE10.  When I try to reconnect to them through PSE it won't let me.
In Finder the files appear there and will play (I have installed flipfinder).  If I try to add the files to PSE when I get to the file structure they are all greyed out.  Why is this?  They can't be 'missing' as they are playable and 5 of them came across.  Just can't understand why it has only happened to some files.
I would appreciate any help you can give me.

There is no support for WMV files for the iPhone. Now a player could be written I guess that can play them but that player would be limited to it's own data (eg: cannot be spawned from email message since no app can work as a plug in as part of the rules of the SDK).

  • Does iWeb support .wmv movie files?

Ok guys i'm fairly new to the iWeb.
I have a basic qustion that I dont seem to be able to find the answer for on any help links within the application or Quicktime for that matter as it always revert you back to saving you movie files as QuickTime .mov files.
Is there a way you can import .wmv movie files so that our friendly PC user's can view without having to download QuickTime for PC.
    Thanks for youe help.
    Neil

iWeb writes page code that calls the QuickTime browser plug-in.
QuickTime on a PC can't open WMP formats.
All you can do is use "link to file" to upload your .wmv file.

  • Problem converting WMV movie file to format Adobe After Effects can read...

Trying to convert a windows WMV movie clip so that Adobe After Effects can read, as the Mac OSX version of After Effects does not like WMV.

i'm with the Captain's answer, Flip4Mac's Windows Media Components will allow you to work with the files directly in AE or other QT compliant application
but whilst the free player version will allow you to view the files, you'll need to pony up for at least the Player Pro version if you intend to transcode to another format (otherwise the copy will have a Flip4Mac watermark)

  • .mov Files not working in Mac but working on Windows

I use a Kodak 10MP digital camera to click. I use it to shoot some videos too.
I had some videos taken earlier on the camera and used to view them on windows. Just bought a Macbook a few days ago, and all those videos worked fine (transfered using an external drive). But there is something I m so confused with now.
All the videos I shoot now, iPhoto does not import (hangs). I copied the video to windows where I could see all easily, and copied it to a pen drive. But sadly even trying to open them on pen drive doesn't work. It says its not a .mov file (dimension: -- --) whereas earlier videos be it 640x480 or HD worked fine. Do note videos are working on Windows. I have Quicktime 10.0 and player 7 installed.
    Please help.

    Won't you mid it AMAZING
Windows Quicktime and VLC are playing the files easily. Mac OS X is not. aren't mov files exclusive to Apple?
There are no picture settings on the camera (heck the camera is so bad you can't do anything even on trying). How is this possible that old videos worked and new aren't. I can't even sleep until I understand.
Already feeling going the Mac way wasn't the right choice. Should have stuck with Windows.

  • Missing CF Movie Files

when I opened FCP 5.04 this morning a window appeared asking for missing movie file "CF-dvc appl-720x48010233017. After a search I discovered that it can be found in the "Constant Frame Folder" within the FCP Render folder/ In fact that every project generates those particular 'movie files'.- They seem to be responsible for the 'black/slug in each project', the background goes all green if they are missing. Unfortunateky I couldn't select them, they were all grey and after a series of clicks on 'cancel' FCP crashed and every time after that even a new project would ask for those files...
How do I resolve this problem?

Open up iTunes and go to where the video files are
situated. Right click and click on Get Info, then
look around the tabs (cant remember which one) and
make sure that the movie file is not under 'Music
Video' if it is change it to Movie File.
    Maybe I need to clarify,
The video files are no longer in the "Video" folder of iTunes.
They went missing altogether, until I found them in the "Music" folder.
"Get Info" correctly identifies the files as mpeg-4 and will play correctly in Windows under QuickTime. However, playing the same file on the iPod starts up as music, with the some artwork.
So far, I have downloaded http://www.yamipod.com/, copied the files to my hard drive. Now I will deleted them from my iPod and attempt re-add them as video.

  • .mov files stop halfway on .mac homepage

I'm having a problem playing a .mov file on my homepage. I made it in iPhoto6 as a slideshow, exported it to a .mov file. I tested it and it plays fine on my hard drive as well as my idisk. It stops half-way through, however, when I play it on my homepage using Safari. I have called my cable ISP and the modem is working fine. I have deleted the page and re-loaded it. It consistently stops at the same halfway mark. Can anyone help? I have some eager people waiting to see this. Thanks.

  • HT2518 I can't open MOV. files on my new mac, please help

Hi I'm new to mac's and I love my new toy, but I'm having a little problem with transferring my video's from my old PC. I've tried manually transferring my mov. files from my PC hard drive to my mac. All the videos used to open up on the PC with Quick Time, now when I try to open them up on the mac it says QT can't open this type of file? Any ideas please

You should download VLC and try viewing the .mov file with it - for troubleshooting.

  • Missing codec mov-files

    hi guys,
    since I reinstalled OS X 10.6.3 PP CS5 won't open a project with mov-files, it couldn't find a codec.
The codecs in the mov-archive are:
    MPEG 1/2 (xdve)
    PCM S16 LE (sowt)
    Timecode
The files were original exported from FCP but worked perfectly well with PP after converting them and before the reinstallation. I upgraded my OS X to 10.6.5 without any success.
Quicktime player plays only the audio, with VLC it works perfectly normal.
Any ideas how I could make them run again in PP CS5?
    Thanks a lot!
    Kai

Did you just update Premiere to 5.0.3? See if the following applies to you: Templates missing since update > 5.0.3
As a quick test, open the New Sequence dialog: you should see many categories and presets like this--
If you don't, you're back in trial mode, and will have to follow the procedure I outlined in the thread linked to above. Sorry...

  • .mov file saved from other Mac not working on new Macbook

My old Macbook Pro started acting funny so I saved all my pictures and videos to USB drives. My new Macbook (OSX 10.5.8) with QuickTime (version 7.6.4) will not open the .mov files. Per another similar thread it was suggested to enable the "Show legacy encoders" under QuickTime Advanced Preferences, but it still won't work. QuickTime opens and plays the file but there is no sound or picture? Any suggestions?

My old Macbook Pro started acting funny so I saved all my pictures and videos to USB drives. My new Macbook (OSX 10.5.8) with QuickTime (version 7.6.4) will not open the .mov files.
Not sure what you mean here. Did you use the "Save As..." option to save the files as "Reference" movies to the USB drive? If so, they can't open because the "Standalone" reference file is not available on the mew system for playback.
QuickTime opens and plays the file but there is no sound or picture?
Confused here. Which is it? "QuickTime (version 7.6.4) will not open the .mov files" or "QuickTime opens and plays the file but there is no sound or picture?"
Codecs: DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, DV, Tween, Integer (Big Endian)
What QT application are your referring to here? A "Tween" track is not usual for captured DV/AIFF content and would probably cause problems with an application like iMovie '08/'09 which don't like all possible MOV container track types.
That's unusual, there is no Format information available. Just 1)source, 2)data size, 3)data range, 4)current time, and 5)duration.
Sounds like corruption in the file, the QT embedded structure or the QT player. If the "small" files (like MPeG4/AAC) play okay, and only large ones (like DV/AIFF) have problems, then you may wish to check the USB drive format for file size limitations, data integrety, and/or other problems.

  • How do I move files from pc to mac?

I want to move my mp3's on my pc to my new MB....the website has some info...but it says I need the IP address of the pc I'm trying to connect to....how do I get the IP address?....
    also...does dashboard never close?...

    Hi,
Is this the Apple site that is saying that you need the computers website? I have never tried transfering files from a Mac to a PC over a network. Anyway, if you go on your PC to the start menu, click run. In that box type cmd and then press okay. I scary looking black box will come up, and in there type ipconfig. This will show you the current IP info for the computer.
About Dashboard. I am assuming you mean that it never closes, like the finder, and always has the running arrow under it's dock icon. I'm not sure how to disable it in the startup. But it really doesn't use much RAM, so don't worry. Just be sure to close whatever widgets ar'nt being used, because they will use a lot of RAM.
Hope this helps. Post back with any other questions.

  • How do I move files from a broken Mac Book to an external hard drive

I have a broken MacBook pro, the hard drive failed and I want to move the files onto an external hard drive.  I know I can transfer the files onto the external hard drive by running the software on the external hard drive and accessing the files on the Mac Book, but I dont know how to do it.

How can you do that if the drive has failed? You cannot access a failed drive unless it is actually still functioning.
To access from an external drive you need to install the operating system on the external drive then boot the computer from the external drive. You can then access the internal drive in order to copy files and folders from it to the external drive.

  • Can't open or move file - In use by Mac OS X

I have a file (movie) I am trying to move to a new external hard drive. I can't move it cause it says it is used by Mac OS X and cannot be moved or if I try to open it says it can't be opened.
The permissions are set correctly on this file and it plays just fine in iTunes but I can't open it in quicktime or I get that message. Anyone have any ideas to try? The Locked check box is not checked in the info window and my user has read and write access to the file.

Well I will never know what happened with that file. I tried moving it again and got the error message again. Got another message after that saying do you want to continue to move items you can move (though this was the only file I was trying) I said continue and then the file disappeared off my system.
No idea what happened with it.....

  • Buying a new MAcBook Pro - How do i move files and office for Mac

I am buying a new MacBook Pro and have a license for my office for Mac 2008. Can I re-install into the new computer or do i need to buy a new license? Also, how do i move all my itunes, photos, and files from one to the other!

Use TDM for transferring files, drag libraries into folders (iTunes Library into iTunes Folder for example). The Firewire cable will need to be a 6 to 9 pin, or an adapter.
If you're giving up the pB, De-authorize it for iTunes.
Don't do applications between G4 and Intel machines, better to reinstall.
Uninstall Office and use your key on the new Machine. Run Office update.
Connecting Your PowerBook to Another Computer Using FireWire Target Disk Mode.
If you want to transfer files between your PowerBook and another FireWire-equipped
Macintosh computer, or you have a problem that prevents your computer from starting
up, you can use FireWire Target Disk Mode to connect to another computer. When you
start up your computer in FireWire Target Disk Mode, the other computer can access
your PowerBook as if it were an external hard disk.
Note: When using FireWire Target Disk Mode, it’s a good idea to connect your power
    adapter to the PowerBook.
To connect your PowerBook to another computer in FireWire Target Disk Mode:
1 Make sure that your PowerBook is shut down.
2 Use a FireWire cable to connect your PowerBook to another FireWire-equipped
    computer.
3 Start up your PowerBook and immediately hold down the T key.
Your PowerBook display shows the FireWire logo. The other computer’s display shows
the PowerBook internal hard disk icon. You can now drag and drop files between the
    computers.
4 When you finish transferring files, drag the PowerBook hard disk icon to the Trash.
5 Press the power button (®) on the PowerBook to shut it down, and then disconnect
    the FireWire cable.
