Missing words in dictionary

The dictionary shows "US", but yet "first", "floor" and "confidential" are missing from the diccionary when trying to check spelling.
Since when those words were removed from US dicctionaries?

No, ligatures and stuff like that were one of the things I checked. Regular Times font is used, BUT…
The original text seemed to be scanned and wrongly converted to ligatures or exported from a text file that did use ligature'd font.
I guess it was exported, since the line breaks are also lost so there are MANY joined words (missing space)

Hello Guys I have a problem that I can not get to the bottom.
Time Machine has suddenly stopped working it really slow to make up. Copy a few kb at a time and long hours it takes to close the back. (up to a few tens of megs, 10, 20 Mb).
I made the following list of tests that will follow along with the log file.
First of all I made a copy as root with Carbon Copy Cloner disk of the iMac. (So that they can go back in case of disaster)
Following the guides Pondini (pondini.org) I did the following steps:
1) Changed the internfaccia FW800 to USB hard drive (does not change anything, still slow)
2) Changed to another external HD for time machine with FW800 and USB (nothing changes still slow)
3) Recreated the full backup with Time Machine on either drive (still slow)
4) Reinstalled the 10.6.8 Combo Pack (still slow)
5) Re spootlight indexed with the disk (still slow)
6) At this point, in desperation I reinstalled on the internal drive of my iMac 10.6.8 creating a new user, User Migration Assistant from my hd clone with Carbon Copy Cloner. Recreated the full backup with Time Machine.
The first full backup is fast, but slow incremental backups are back (as to 'start a few kb at a time).
I compared the log files with those of my other machine with same configuration and I found these errors:
backupdir [19376]: CFPropertyListCreateFromXMLData (): Old-style plist parser: missing semicolon in dictionary.
mdworker32 [20950]: kCGErrorFailure: Set a breakpoint @ CGErrorBreakpoint () to catch errors logged as They Are.
You know help me? I saw that this error is from 10.5 to 10.7, but no one has found a real solution to the issue.
I never installed antivirus software and tried with different external drives COPN capacity equal to or greater than the external drive. Only at the end I tried to divide the external drive to back up into two parts by a 1.5 TB and 500 GB but with the same mistakes that I have described.

Ciao Ragazzi ho un problema a cui non riesco a venire a capo.
improvvisamente time machine ha smesso di funzionare va veramente lento a fare backup. Copia pochi kb alla volta e impiega tanto tempo ore per chiudere il backup. (backup di poche decine di mega, 10, 20 Mb).
Ho effettuato le seguenti prove che vi elenco di seguito insieme al file log.
Prima di tutto ho fatto una copia come utente root con Carbon Copy cloner del disco del imac.(in maniera tale di poter tornare indietro in caso di disastro)
Seguendo le guide di Pondini (pondini.org) ho effettuato i seguenti passaggi:
1) Cambiato internfaccia del disco rigido da FW800 a USB (non cambia nulla, sempre lento)
2) Cambiato hd esterno con un altro per time machine con FW800 e USB (non cambia nulla sempre lento)
3) Ricreato il full Backup con time machine su entrambe i dischi (sempre lento)
4) Reinstallato il Combo pack 10.6.8 (sempre lento)
5) Re indicizzato con spootlight il disco (sempre lento)
6) A questo punto preso dalla disperazione ho reinstallato sul disco interno del mio imac il 10.6.8 creando un nuovo utente, Assistente migrazione utente dal mio hd clonato con Carbon copy cloner. Ricreato il backup completo con time machine.
Il primo full backup è veloce, ma i backup incrementali sono tornati lentissimi (come all' inizio pochi kb alla volta).
Ho confrontato il file log con quelli di un mio altro mac con la stessa configurazione ed ho trovato questi errori:
backupd[19376]: CFPropertyListCreateFromXMLData(): Old-style plist parser: missing semicolon in dictionary.
mdworker32[20950]: kCGErrorFailure: Set a breakpoint @ CGErrorBreakpoint() to catch errors as they are logged.
Sapete darmi aiuto? Ho visto che questo errore è presente dal 10.5 al 10.7 ma nessuno ha trovato una vera soluzione alla questione.
Non ho mai installato software antivirus ed ho provato con diversi dischi esterni copn capacità uguale o superiore al disco esterno. Solo alla fine ho provato a dividere il disco esterno del backup in due parti una da 1,5TB e una da 500 Gb ma con i medesimi errori che vi ho descritto.

I followed the steps you listed and also remove the files that were creating problems spootlight, including the audio plugin and the panel preferences file.
Then I stopped by the timemachine reindexed spootlight 'option in the preferences panel spootight privacy. After I restarted my iMac and formatted the external drive again, Time Machine and restarting a full backup. This morning after a quick full backup and disk indexing completed incremental backups are always slow. Proceeds with a few kb at a time. I resend you the log files and screen capture. My iMac is constantly backed up.

Typing lag resulting in missing words

[Problem summary]
We are having issues with the response speed of FrameMaker when we type.
We encountered different cases but I'm submitting this one because it is easy to recreate.
[Setup]
-Adobe FrameMaker 8.0p277
-Windows XP SP3 (with all required updates)
-Problem was successfully recreated on Windows Vista and many other PCs
-Text is in french and english
-We tried other keyboards
-Local and network file access has been tested
[Steps to recreate]
-Open the FrameMaker document "LoiCieQcCorpsP-II.FM"
-Goto page A-144. (you may refer to the file "screencap1.jpg")
-Goto the second grayed box containing text: "NON EN VIGUEUR 191.1 [«actionnaire»] Dans les articles 191.2 à 191.12, le mot «actionnaire» signifie la personne habile à voter à lassemblée annuelle et qui:"
-Highlight "191" of the left side box, and quickly retype the value "191" using the num pad. You will notice a "lag" effect and only "19" will successfully appear. (you may refer to the file "screencap2.jpg")

Since a few days I have some curiosity creating PDF files!
Randomly the PDF output is missing whole words in the document but having spares in the right tracking for them in the document.
It occurs that the missing words are subject to another font however not all words in this font are missing in the document.
Also my printer tell's me if he's going to print the PDF (in this case a serial letter with pre-stamped addresses) his computer is breaking down completely and also printing hieroglyphs.
This document was printed from MS Word 2003 with "Adobe PDF" as printer.
I also use FreePDFXP, though the same error comes up.
In addition I tried several settings for the PDF with no effect in the outcome.
I am still working with Acrobat 7 (from CS2 suite) under WinXP Professional SP3 and hadn't any problems before installing my InDesign CS5 upgrade a few days ago.
I only can assume that the problem is InDesign CS5 but cannot prove it.
Anyone an idea on how to solve the problem?!
I am really annoyed about this since for the pre-stamped letters I already paid money to the mail service and the need to be in the mail today - otherwise I am loosing several 100 Euros to the paper-bin).

However I checked all the settings in the joboptions. All fonts are to be embedded (100%) and I also actively selected the fonts to be transferred.
I am using TheSans from LucasFonts as Open Type.
For my document I have SemiLight as standard style and Bold for accentuation.
While the bold style will be printed in "bold only" lines, it is not printed in lines/paragraphs where also the SemiLight style is used.
When I change color of the words in bold, the effect inverts and only the bold style words are displayed but not the SemiLight text!
I have a second laptop with the same system and software configuration (Win XP Professional SP3; Acrobat 7), where the same document runs smoothly.
That's why I assume, that it must be the Indesign CS5 upgrade causing trouble (it's the only new addition to the first laptop).
Unfortunately Adobe has no answer here also.
The only solution would be to adopt my documents for this effect and follow the logic of the machine instead of my mind...
As we do so often since invention of computers...

Microsoft Word 2013 Dictionary App not working with "compatible" Browser

My Microsoft Word English Dictionary App is not working. It keeps giving me the excuse that my browser is not compatible but I checked and the minimum is Firefox 12. I have Firefox 33. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Bookmark words in dictionary

Why is such an option not provided?? Any work around that will enable me to bookmarks certain words in dictionary so that I can go through them easily later on..

Sounds reasonable.
Something strange happened: I renamend my DE file, wrote a name that was unknown to Spell and chose Learn Spelling. As expected, a new DE file was created. I deleted the new DE file, quit and relaunched Pages — and Pages still knows the spelling! I searched my HD for other places whre AppleSpell could safe the information but found nothing.
Regarding opening the custom spelling files: I got best results with (Aqua)Emacs. Emacs displays the delimiter (^@) between the words which appear to be lined up in Textedit.

Missing word database in my Dictionary

I have a Nokia 6121 classic. Recently my memory card was corrupted, so I had to reformat the memory card. After reformatting the memory card, the application Dictionary coudn't work. It stated: "Dictionary word information missing. Install word database". Is there a solution to reinstall my word database?

no, but it can be done in the same way. Creation of a search database is invoked by the method call Indexer ixr = new Indexer();
ixr.main(args); where args is a String[] with arguments that can be used as documented in the JavaHelp User's Guide. One argument to the call can be a configuration file (and my code as shown at the link from my previous post already creates such a config file). In the config file a list of stopwords can be included too.

Preview's PDF text select ignores columns and misses word spaces

I have a number of scanned pdf newspaper articles that I was attempting to copy the text from. Preview appears to register the existence of columns, as there is a pale blue background between the columns.
However when I use the text select tool, it completely ignores the column - and just selects across all columns. And when I paste the text into my text editor, it's missing all the spaces between the words, and the font size is always huge.
Conversely, Adobe reader in XP has no problem selecting by column, and the pasted text is also an exact replication of the original content. I don't know why Preview performs so badly in this regard? Anyone else experience any issues with pdf text select?

Yes, and not just recently.
There is a reason Preview is named, well, preview. It is not an authoring environment and PDFs are not meant to serve in that context either...unless maybe you understand all of inherent the font traps, tricks & tips and how to tune your scanning/OCR software to keep rework to a minimum.
Scanning PDFs is always tricky, and without the occasional heavy metal to bring to the task, it just seems to be that more problematic.
Keep trying, but I'd really suggest to look to other tools at this time.

Missing words and lines in PDF

Platform/tools:
Windows XP Pro SP 2 or later
FrameMaker 7.2

When I create a PDF from FrameMaker, my process is to print to a PS file, then distill separately to create the PDF. This all used to work fine, but recently, I have the following consistent problem:
Words and whole lines are missing. It seems as though they are near where I use an italic character format (which is an actual format I've created in FrameMaker, not the kind applied with Ctrl-i). However, that same character format never was a problem before, nor did I have missing text.
If I take the same files over to my older computer, with FrameMaker 7.1 and Acrobat 7, and print to a PS file and then distill, the PDF file is perfectly fine.
Perhaps somehow the Adobe PDF driver (and possibly other printer drivers) got corrupted? If so, how can I fix that? I dread thinking that I will have to uninstall and reinstall CS3, since, for some reason, the process of uninstalling takes many hours.
Or, is there another thing that causes this kind of problem?
Any help would be so appreciated!

Cleartype problem: missing words

I noticed some words are missing from the scanned (clearscan) material.
It looks like:
"When they returned everything was as it was yestarday"...
should be:
"When they returned home everything was left as it was yestarday"...
Just blank spots. In the original there are clearly visible letters and words. The original was scanned in 600dpi and the quality of scan is superb.
When I select text it is there, I mean I can select and copy these "empty" spaces as if the text is there.
Any clue to what could I do? It's a major issue for me. I bought Acrobat just for that and now it is unreliable...

For what it's worth, the Mac version has also done this for a long time, and I'm quite surprised that there isn't more about it on the net. ClearScan is quite unreliable. It works great when it works, but everything has to be verified, and when it doesn't work, it's kind of a challenge to get an OCR that does.

As I mention in that post, you can find places where ClearScan has "removed" this text by Examining the document and looking for hidden text. The "removed" stuff will generally be way off the page to the right.
The last post in this thread mentioned that an update (Windows version I assume) fixed it, but the Mac version I'm using (9.3.1 Pro) still does it. Is there an actual fix on the horizon?
More importantly, is there any way at all to "repair" broken files? It might be that scanning the file for objects that are off to the right of the page and shifting them left so they are back on the page would work. I don't know how reliable the horizontal coordinate is (is it off by some systematic amount?), but I would love to be able to at least not re-OCR everything (much less try to validate every document I OCR'ed before I realized that this bug existed), and in some cases I even tossed the original and certainly the pre-OCR'ed scan file, so redoing them is not even an option.

Replacing a word in Dictionary

I have a problem when incorrectly typing the as "teh" which I am very prone to to do.
When I try to correct it, in Apple's Mail (v 6.5 1508), by right clicking (mountain lion) it tells me that the word "teh" exists when right clicking on it, I get the choice to Look Up "Teh" and gives this dictionary explanation for it.
"Teh" is an Internet slang neologism most frequently used as an English article, based on a common typographical error of "the". Teh has subsequently developed grammatical usages distinct from the. It is not common in spoken or written English outside technical or leetspeak circles, but when spoken, it is pronounced /tɛ/ or /tə/.
When I type in TextEdit (v 1.8), the word "teh" is automatically changed to "the" as I have it in the text substitutions in the system preferences.
In Apple's Pages (09 v4.3) when typing "teh", it is underlined in red and right clicking gives me the choice of correcting it.
How can I remove the reference to teh in the dictionary for Apple's Mail?

The definitions dictionary has nothing to do with spell check. You can't edit the New Oxford Dictionary dictionary, and it wouldn't have any effect on spell check even if you could. (In fact, the "definition" of teh that you are seeing is from Wikipedia, not from a dictionary at all.)
It sounds like spell check might not be working in Mail. Is it turned on in Mail?

Load a dictionary of words into a Map of some sort. Use the user's word as the key into the map - if the map returns null, then it can be assumed to not be a real word. You will probably want to provide some mechanism so that the user can populate the map with proper names and other stuff that's not in the dictionary.
To obtain a (raw text) dictionary with which to populate the Map you could look at the files in the /usr/share/dict folder on most Linux systems. If you don't have one to hand you can probably obtain and download one with a bit of Googling.

Patch Tool option bar - missing word "Mode"

The new Content Aware Move tool has the word Mode next to its drop down box on the options bar. The Patch tool has the word Patch next to its drop down. For consistency the word Patch on the patch tool options bar should be replaced with Mode. Ideally instead of Mode, they both could display the name of the tool, but I expect Content Aware Move takes up too much real estate.

CS5 missing Word endnotes

In CS5 when importing Word files, the endnote indicators are present but the endnotes are missing. Never had this problem in previous versions. Nothing in discussions?

I’ve tried every which way I could to include the _wordsub.llb without success. If I copy the individual vi's to the folder that holds my application, it does no good. They still go missing when I build the application. I can't copy the _wordsub.llb into my library because both are llb. If I copy the individual vi's that are located within _wordsub.llb the ones is question still go missing upon the build.
Maybe I’m doing something wrong in the beginning that is carrying over to the build.
As an example, I have one application in library form that has about 100 vi’s included. It is saved as a library. If I make one change and save with a new name as a new library it loses the previous mentioned word sub vi’s (not all, just about 5-6 specific ones). I open the library manager and find the missing sub vi;s in the “_wordsub.llb” and copy them from the vi.lib\addons\_office location into my library application. From there everything works until I try to build an application from the new named application, I re-lose all the previous word sub vi’s again.
I have tried various combinations of save with options, but no matter how well it works as my library application, as soon as I build the application I lose the subvi’s. Maybe I am doing a fundamental error when I start with my llb that I am trying to build as an application.

MS Word Custom Dictionary

Whenever I use MS Word I keep getting a window telling me, "The custom dictionary "Custom Dictionary" is not available." Further, I am prevented from adding new words. Is there a way to resolve this?
