Missing "Worksheets' in Discoverer Viewer

Hi everyone,
I am using Discoverer 10g. I created a workbook with 2 worksheets. When I use my Discoverer Viewer I am able to have the "Worksheets" option that allow me to switch between sheets but when I access it by clicking "analyze" link in the portal, this option is missing.
Has anybody encountered the same issue? Any solutions/ suggestions are most welcome :)
Cheers,
Angeline

In Discoverer 10.1.2, when you analyze a worksheet in Viewer by clicking the 'Analyze' link in Portal, you are confined to that single worksheet. This mode is also known as 'Single Worksheet Viewer' mode.
Usability tests we conducted told us that the ability to navigate out to other worksheets in Viewer when users had come to Viewer from Portal (by clicking the 'Analyze...' link) confused people.
Now, in 10.1.2, when you are in Single Worksheet Viewer mode, the 'Exit' link at the top is replaced by 'Save and Return to Portal' and a 'Cancel and Return to Portal' links. If the worksheet portlet publisher has disallowed saving changes back to Portal, you will see only the second link.
Thanks
Abhinav

  • Serious issue in discoverer viewer

    Dear all,
I have serious issue with discoverer viewer 9.0.2.53 version.
I am in need of displaying lengthy worksheet in discoverer viewer,i am using crosstab format.
my client wants to compare the datapoint value of worksheet with leftside drillup/down and top drill up/down values.
I want the assumption of "display similar to desktop display of worksheet"..is it possible to have same type of format or alternative one by customizing viewer?
Plz help me out of this..if viewer does not support this issue i think..its not best suited for report making..
plz somebody confirm about this issue..its very urgent to proceed further...
    regards
    chandra

Already checked that. I don't think the problem is color profile related.
Besides, when I reset the viewer as described above the colors look perfectly fine.

Has anyone who reads this, ever done this?
Just wondering as it sure looks like Disco is becoming pretty slick if this has been done. With the new JAVA interfacing stuff, it does seem to open a new world, but where I'm stuck on understanding this, is that how on earth a Java program can access a Disco worksheet (not just a workbook, but take out the worksheet in a workbook and present it).
So, with my ignorance, I would have thought this is not possible, but with the moves Disco, etc. is taking, I would just like to know if I'm in the 'dark ages' and this has been done successfully by someone.
... keeping up with the new stuff is a full time job! ...

  • Tweak Discoverer Viewer layout

    Hi ,
I am facing a strange problem while trying to roll out the discoverer viewer reports through discoverer viewer. The users, who have been using Excel sheets for years, are asking for lots of changes in the way discoverer viewer displays data. Alhough they are aware that there are lots of other advantages of this tool over excel, but still there are some problems that they feel are basic, and must be adressed. Can someone please help me out on these?
    1) The row height of rows in discoverer cannot be altered, so even when the font size of data is just 6, the rows are wide enough to fit data of font size 10!. The layout/format options in discoverer do not provide option to shrink row heights, and so lots of empty space.
    2) The reports have to be scrolled using Left ->, Down -> links if the number of rows and columns are large. Although, the Rows and Columns link can be used to fetch all rows and columns in one go, but that has to be done everytime a report is opened. The users want that the number of rows and columns be set to a high value by default. But I could find no place where this can be set as default for all reports.
    3) A graphical logo can be displayed in the Title when using Desktop. But this is not available in Plus and Viewer. Moreover in the page where report is displayed, Oracle Discoverer Viewer logo is visible at the top which is not required. Effectively, what is wanted is missing and what not is very well there :-(. how do I do these changes?
    4) The NULL values have been set to be displayed as '-' when reports were saved in Plus. But the Viewer still shows them up as NULL. I had to change each of the report in viewer to display the NULL as '-' by going to the Link 'Worksheet Options'. I can't understand that why there is no synch between Plus and Viewer for this setting. Surprisingly now, the worksheet options link has vanished from the viewer page after I did some changes a couple of weeks back, and now I am unable to do those changes too :-((. How do I bring the link back? or how do I set the NULL to be displayed as '-' be default for all reports?
Lots of questions I know... but I am stuck and this is actually affecting the acceptance of the tool among the users. They have been using the excel sheets that are very flexible(the world knows), but still they would be more than happy to use Viewer ,if at least these basic change are made.
Any help on any of these is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Goga

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Discoverer viewer in portal or Drill to detail in Disco report in Portal

    Hi
Is it possible to embed discoverer viewer into Portal page. I know one way, I can achieve this in older versions by using <IFRAME src="worksheet url"></iframe> as HTML portlet. But, the problem here is that, our Discoverer viewer is SSO protected. So,I don't want user to single sign on again, as they have already have done that when they got into portal.
My second question is , I have developed Page-Detail report in Disco plus, also I have Drill to Detail in the same report. Drill to Detail is created using "Manage Link" option. When I deploy this report into Portal using Disco Portlet provider, firstly in portal it is not showing the Page Item, also the Drill through link also is not showing.
Any help on the above questions would be greatly helpful.
    Thanks
    Balaji

    Hi
Firstly thank you very much for your response.
The Disco report I have is a Discoverer Plus report with Drill to Detail to another workbook(developed through manage link). But this Drillable link is not showing in the published Disco portlet. Are you saying that it should in the published disco portlet? .. As posted in previous response , I know this would work from Analyze link(which basically lauches viewer)..
But users would like to see this drillable link in the report in portal page itself(which means on the published portlet itself). To achieve this only, I used Iframes in Html portlet and showing the Discoverer viewer url. It works fine, but only thing is each time user naviges to portal page, it executes the report which takes some time. I am trying to avoid the execution process. I think one solution is I can just schdule these Disco reports and that way it will not query the database each time. I was wondering if there is any other solution maybe I am missing
    Thanks

  • I cant see the graph in discoverer viewer whith was created in the desktop

    Hi,
         I need your help!! I have a problem to see a graph in Discoverer viewer. I will detail you the steps that I follow;
It was a difficult calculate report to results by Discoverer so, I create a view in the data base which show 3 field, Periodo(number) which is a union whit other field from other folder, State(varchar), Requirement(number).
From the discoverer desktop y have a crosstab worksheets and a graph, there I can see it without problem, but in the Discoverer viewer I can see the graph.
I tried to set the worksheets options in “show options” to show me the graphs too, but this options didn’t appeared there. Somebody know what I should have to do to see it?
    On the other hand I changed the “show null values show” option since null to empty, and when I wanted to save the change this error appeared;
“Oracle BI Discoverer don’t had to found the necessary values to show the events…”
    Thanks for your help!
    Regards
    Dora

    Hi Dora,
The graphs that you create using Discoverer Plus will show nicely in Viewer. Everything you develop in Pluys works in Viewer. They are companion products.
You must realize that Discoverer Plus/Viewer and Desktop are two seperate product sets and they use different techniques for graph creation. There are other differencies between the two that suggests that you need to develop all reports using Discoverer Plus in stead of Discoverer Desktop.
I have experienced workbook created in Plus being destroyed when opened and saved using Desktop. So for a long time I have simply forgotten all about Desktop. If your company is relying on both Viewer and Dersktop I suggest that the time has come to change strategy and technique.
If you need sparring please mail to [email protected]
    Good Luck!

  • Discoverer Viewer Report with Page Items Slow Performance

I created a report in Discoverer User that has page items and parameters and runs fine (under 3 minutes) in Discoverer User, but when I try and run it in Discoverer Viewer it takes a long time. It took over 70 minutes before manually terminating it. I made a copy of the report and removed the page items and tried to run it again in Discoverer Viewer and now the report runs in under 3 minutes. Any idea why a report with page items would run in Discoverer user fine, but not discoverer viewer?
I am using Oracle Business Intelligence Plus 10g (10.1.2.55.26)

As long as you can access the middle-tier server where Discoverer Viewer is running, you should be able to run and view Discoverer worksheets.
While it is difficult to even start guessing what the problem might be, if the machine you installed Discoverer on has DHCP addressing, you will run into problems.
    Thanks

  • HTTP 500 - Internal Server Error from Discoverer Viewer to Portal

    HI,
I created a tab with a list of workbooks created with Discoverer Viewer and published with Discoverer Portliest Provider (List of Database Workbooks). Another tab contains four Discoverer Worksheets created with the same account. Everything works well but if i click on a report in list and open Discoverer Viewer, when i return to portal and go to tab containing worksheets i see message "HTTP 500 - Internal Server Error" and i'm not able to do anything. I only can close my browser and i must reconnect to portal!
    Can you help me?
My portal version is cg (9.0.4), i'm using Windows 2000 ESP and Internet Explorer 6.
I tried with Olin and Mazola but result did not change.
I used a public connection bud i tried a private connection too. Nothing happened.

The application.log file, under the OC4J which running your Discoverer provider, should give you some hints about the problem you're facing.

  • Discoverer Viewer Actions changed by User (version Oracle 10.1.2)

Does anyone know if it is possible to control the list of available actions to selected users of discoverer Viewer?
I'm using a Portal Dashboard to display Discoverer worksheets. The user can click on the analyze link, which brings up the Discoverer viewer in a new window. I want to be able to hide or remove the export and email Actions for selected users.
    Thanks.

    Hi
Using standard Viewer functionality it is impossible to have the system change the links on a user by user basis. If you are clever at writing UIX you might be able to alter the code that controls the Viewer interface but be warned, doing so could well invalidate your support agreement. This line of attack is not for the feint of heart and you need to backup your original files first, and even then thoroughly test it on a non-production application server first.
    I hope this helps
