Missings Texts for Keys in Design Studio 1.2

Hello,
i am trying to get the texts for my keys. I put them in the Datawarehouse and if i open the query in the Analyzer it works fine with the texts ( long texts )
But in the Designstudio i am not able to see the texts, maybe you can help me.

How to handle jump to for # values in design studio

Hi
I have a scenario, where there are 2 tabs - Customer & Network in a tabstrip. When i click on a particular customer it will jump to the next tab showing the corresponding Networks. This works perfectly fine through script.
But when there is a # -Not Assigned customer and if it has 3 Networks corresponding to it in the source query the same is not working in design studio.
When i select the # customer from tab1, it navigates to tab2 and instead of displaying the corresponding 3 Networks, it displays the entire list of available networks without restriction.
Is there a way in which we can handle this? As i see design studio replicates all from Bex query and strange that this # is not working.
Kindly let me know if we can handle this in best possible way.

Roll Over text for key figures

Our business users are requesting us to apply the "Roll Over Text" to the APO/DP Key Figures. Currently the text pop-up displays only the key figure name when you keep the curser on it. We would like to have pop-up text with 40 character values when the curser keeps on the keyfigure in the Interactive Planning Book.
We have more than 60 keyfigure in each planning book (total around 200 Keyfigures) and most of the key figure names are looks similar, to avoid confusion we would like to maintain the 40 character note should display when some body would like to know about the keyfigure.
Is there any possibility to maintain the rollover text in Planning Area or Planning Book or any where else ? Is there any performance issues if we design in this way ?

Write a macro which can run on start.
Row: Forecast ( Attributes ) = ROW_TOOLTIP( 'Forecast Constrained Plan' ) .
In this case, the Row Forecast will have tool tip "Forecast Constrained Plan"

Dimension selection for chart in Design Studio

Hello everyone,
     I have created a data source as shown below. Now i need only sales group dimension to be selected in my chart, i don't want to remove plant and material from my data source as it will give incorrect summation result i.e weighted avg.(weighted avg is based on other two key figure in bex, calculation is at detailed level then sum up weighted avg.)
Is there any option to select the dimension? or Is there any option to calculate by summing up all the weight avg. by sales group wise and store that data in JSON then use it in the chart?

Integration of BOBJ Design Studio dashboard via SAP EP

My client is currently piloting the implementation of a BusinessObjects Design Studio dashboard. For maximum flexibility, the Add-on for BI Platform (BIP) has been installed, and we are able to successfully execute the dashboard from the BOBJ LauchPad. Dashboard presents query results from BW.
However, the client now wants to deploy this dashboard to their SAP Enterprise Portal environment. They want the user to be able to access/execute the dashboard from within EP. This is where we have faced several obstacles. Initially, we received a blank screen upon dashboard execution, but this was recently resolved by installing the proper iview template for the BOBJ Design Studio analysis application. (OSS Note 1672422)
Now, when we execute the dashboard via EP, the system presents the BOBJ "hourglass/rainbow circle", but does not complete. I checked the Process Overview in the BW system, and there is no activity taking place during this time.
We are currently at the following release levels:
BW 7.3
Portal 7.4
BOBJ Design Studio 1.4
I would like to hear from someone who has successfully implemented this scenario (Design Studio dashboard, with BIP Add-on, being accessed via SAP EP).
Since we installed the DS Add-On for BIP, or course, we didn't install the DS Add-on for SAP NetWeaver. Do we need to install the NetWeaver Add-on if we want to deploy the dashboards via Portal (even though they are managed/transported within the BI Plaform)?
Any thoughts?

Just wanted to give you an update on our issue. As you suggested, I created a new Design Studio application, containing only a text box. This application was successfully rendered within the Portal.
Afterward, I started experimenting with other dashboard components, including a crosstab object that was linked to a BW query as a Design Studio datasource. The crosstab was also successfully rendered within the Portal.
I then added a chart to this application and re-executed. While the text box and cross tab were visible, the chart was missing.
After researching further, someone mentioned Google Chrome, so I downloaded it and executed the test dashboard containing text box, crosstab, and chart. It rendered successfully in Portal (via Chrome)!!
Afterward, I then executed my initial dashboard application via Chrome, and it also rendered successfully!
I had previously read several posts regarding IE compatibility with Design Studio, but I was always able to use IE to successfully render Design Studio applications via BOBJ LaunchPad. Therefore, I didn't think I had an issues with DS and IE. However, for us, the issue seems to be between DS, EP, and IE.
Now, we have to deal with an organizational issue of web browsers, but that's a separate challenge.

Design Studio 1.3 SDK - Are script contributions for SAPUI5 method functions supported?

All of the SAPUI5 SDK component examples provided with the Design Studio Samples demonstrate how to expose property getter/setter functions as script contributions. Indeed, the SDK Developer Guide also just focuses on this. However, UI5 controls may also include method functions that allow certain actions to be performed on the control. In this context, I have the following questions:
1) Is it possible to expose method functions via script contributions in the contribution.ztl file? If yes, what is the correct syntax for doing so? Based on my experimentation so far, it seems like method functions cannot be exposed directly via script contributions;
2) If method functions are not supported for script contributions, are there any recommended approaches as a workaround? One possible approach that comes to mind is as follows:
i) Define an invisible "dummy" property of type boolean to correspond with each method function that we want to expose as a script contribution;
ii) Define invisible properties to correspond to the parameters required by the method functions;
iii) In the contributon.ztl code, perform the following tasks:
(a) Set the invisible parameter property values that correspond to the desired method function;
(b) Invoke the dummy property getter or setter function by getting or setting the boolean value of the dummy property in the contribution.ztl code;
iii). Override the corresponding dummy property getter or setter function in the component.js code with additional logic to read the invisible parameter property values and then call the method function.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks very much for your suggestion. Your mind-bogglingly creative solutions never cease to amaze me .
Reviewing the code, yes I did wonder about the use of the Math.random() function. Then when I subsequently read your explanation about the state saving, the penny dropped as to the issue I was experiencing with the approach I had previously tried (as described in point form in my question), whereby I could not invoke the setter function multiple times from the BIAL script. So I added a call to the fireDesignStudioPropertiesChanged() function, which has partially solved my issue but the parameter properties are out of sync.
I'll describe what I've implemented and hopefully you can shed some more light on how to resolve the issue:
In the contribution.xml file I've defined invisible properties for the method function and it's parameters as follows:

I then created a DS app with the following script in the click event of a button to invoke the method function in the custom Label control:

After launching the application and clicking the button for the first time, the alert display function is displayed as expected but the parameters have not been updated, even though they are updated in the script contribution function, so the parameters are not displayed, as follows:

So the parameter updates for alertText1 and alertText2 seem to be out of sync for some reason. I'm sure I'm missing a nuance here. Any ideas?
Conceptually, I'm just trying to achieve what Leandro Cardoso has done with the script contribution action function calls in his Notify component. The only difference is that I'm implementing HandlerType "sapui5" instead of "div".
Any thoughts about the parameter syncing issue would be appreciated.

24" iMac for Graphic Design studio workstation?

Hi there, I've been using macs since the early 90s for graphic design and have always bought their "professional" models, ie towers. These days it seems the line between iMacs and towers is getting a bit blurred... iMacs are pretty darn powerful. So I need to add a workstation to the design studio and am considering just getting a 24" iMac instead of a tower + apple display. I use Adobe CS2 apps (photoshop, indesign, illustrator, etc.) Rarely, I deal with 500meg layered photoshop images, but I don't do any sound/video stuff.
So my big question... is the iMac good enough for a full time graphic designer's workstation or should I stick with a tower? The difference is over a $grand.
G5 tower Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The 24" iMac is a perfect match for a graphic designer.
On the plus side, the large screen is actually 4 inches larger than the smallest Cinema Display (20"), meaning great value. Secondly, you have the small form factor and the conveinience of an all-in-one unit, and the RAM is extremely easy to upgrade, with a ceiling of 3GB; plenty to run Photoshop or Aperture. The Nvidia graphics card is very potent as well; a must for people working with high-res images.
On the downside, you still won't get the sheer performance that a tower such as the Mac Pro will offer. You also won't get the expandability. You can't upgrade the graphics card in the iMac. You also can't upgrade the hard drive easily, and USB and firewire card upgrades (necessary to keep up with todays latest connection methods for digital cameras) are out of the question.
The 24" iMac is superb. It will give you the horsepower to run even a small graphics design business. But if you are serious about graphic design as a career, still go for a tower. You will be glad you did. I wouldn't be surprised if you found yourself selling the iMac and upgrading your system 3 or 4 years from now. However, if you expect to upgrade in that time anyway, the iMac is a better value.

Abap users autorization for BO BI reports (made in Design Studio) on HANA data

We are bit new to BO BI and Design Studio. Cauld you help us?
BO BI reports must represent SAP HANA data.
We have a lot of users in ERP with their roles.
We need accordingly restrict users access to certain values for group of users in given Data Source based on HANA Analytic or Calculation View.
For example, report must display only “A” Plant data for first group of users, for second group – only “B” Plant data.
Where should we mantain users (and give them roles) and what authorization use?
The best way for mantaining users is CUA on ERP for us.
BO BI supports SAP authorization and role mapping with it's own user groups with no probler.
But what about HANA? We didn't find any positive information about roles mapping and authorization in HANA.
It looks like we need to create all users and give them roles in HANA... Is it really so? How to synchronize HANA users and their authorization with ERP after this...

Enabling Key and text for the Variable Selection screen

I need to display key and text for a characteristic when selecting the drop down menu in the variable selection screen of a web report. In the Business Explorer tab within the info-object, I changed the General Settings to display Key and text, but when I open the drop down menu for this characteristic, it is still displaying the key only. Is there some other place where this change needs to happen?

if i under stan your requirement correctly, need to have both text and key values for variables with F4 help.
you need to chnage the properties of that infoobject at infoobjects level or at infoprovider level,
this is at infoprovider level
in RSA1-> go to change mode of infoprovider (Multiprovider/ cube) on which Query is build) then Expand Charecteristc Dimension -> select infoobject -> right -> select provider-specific properties -> select Display '0 Key and Text' . Activate infoprovider and Run Query and check the Selection screen.

Dynamic Texts from Bex ( for Key Figures ) not coming to WEBI Query

Hi Gurus,
We have a Query in BEx : Each Key figure column text changes dynamically - Like based on Present month
it will Display Month +1 Month +2 up to Month +12. Used dynamic Text variables .
But when i created the universe and Webi report , i am missing the text in the column for Key figures .
How should i get the column text in Webi which is same as in Bex : Points will be awarded for helpful
answers.

text variables with replacement path are supported in BO4.0, see following document: SAP BusinessObjects BI4 - Supported BEx Query Elements
As an example after entering 2012 in the prompts window, the name of the corresponding key figure will dynamically change:
After refreshing and selecting 2013, the column name will update:
Im not sure though if this is the case with unv universe access to BEx queries.

Design Studio working for ipad,iphone, and desktop

Hello All,
I'm new to the SAP design studio world. My first task that has been assigned to me is to see what is the capability of Design Studio to have a singular file and have the CSS be reflective of Iphone,Ipad and Desktop.
1) Is this even possible? There is very limited document out there discussing in depth about design studio
2) If possible what has to be done to be able to get something like this to work?
3) I guess if all is good how maintainable is something like this.
I understand design studio is still pretty new and a lot of people are still using Dashboard Design, but any insight on this would be very helpful.

in addition to the valid information from Tammy, you cna refer to the PAM for supported devices. in Mobile area thesupported way is to use SAP BI Mobile as entry point.
to your question, you can create the application once and then open on desktop or iPad. I would be carefully with iPhone, as this is small device and not all components are supported (see documentation).
Also, it is today a bit tricky to change the CSS based on the device - there will be a better way in 1.4 release as there it will be possible to get the client header sring in BIAL scripts. and by that you can assign different CSS classes to the components.

Design Studio and DSL Bridge for BW (Sizing)

Hi,
I'm doing a sizing exercise on a system where we are only going to use Design Studio, Analysis for Office and their mobile counterpart.
Now, the "Resource Usage Estimator" does not provide options for these two tools, and as far as I can read they don't have that much usage on the server side.
My question is then - does Design Studio use the DSL bridge to connect to BW? Or is it like Analysis, where it connects directly and only gets the login and partial metadata from the SBOP Platform?
And is there any special elements I need to take into account when sizing this machine other then whats written in the sizing guides?

Thanks Tammy, this solved some of my questions.
I am still uncertain as to how I can estimate the system usage, when the users only use Design Studio and Analysis, which I cannot add into the sizing estimator.
Looking at the sizing guides for DS, Analysis and mobile, I still need to estimate the basic platform.
Do you know where I can find help with that?

Epson WorkForce Printer for Design Studio?

I need a recommendation on a reliable, cost effective color printer for my design studio. Color accuracy is very important, as I intend to use it for proofing purposes, and Mac OS X compatability is a must. I currently own a Brother MFC-9840CDW, which is a tank, but its color accuracy is horrible. Plus the consumables are very expensive. When I purchased the Brother laser printers were more cost effective thank inkjet. Now, it seems like some inkjet manufacturers have caught up with the laser guys in terms of lower per page costs.
I'm really impressed with what I've read on the Epson WorkForce series of printers, and I'm especially intrigued by the wide format options they have, which will enable me to print full spreads. Does anyone own any of the Epson WorkForce printers and if so how happy are you with its performance?

I don't have any "Workforce" printers, but wanted to chime in on your question. There are basicly 3 types of inkjet printers: 1.) office type printers like the workforce or deskjet type CMYK printers; 2.) photographic printers with multi-cartridge colors like CMYKlmlc; and 3.) graphic arts proofers like the Epson Stylus Pro or an HP Designjet that is mated with a 3rd party RIP.
You're looking at an office type solution with the Epson Workforce CMYK printer which is similar to the HP Deskjet8000 which is also CMYK. These type of inkjets are going to acheive some fairly good color, but not all colors will be accurate because of the limits of resolution and the 4 basic colors available ( CMYK ). I would look into a 3rd party RIP solution like a Colorburst or Efi Fiery that will open up some options for color accuracy. I recommend a RIP because the driver that comes with the printer is good, but not a proofing solution. For that, you'll need a RIP. More money, but worth the investment. Take a look at the Epson Stylus Pro 3880 Designer Edition or the HP Designjet 130 with an optional RIP.
Also keep in mind that whatever you decide, the printer should be calibrated. The higher end inkjets come calibrated or have their own internal calibration. The RIP makes this happen.
