Mission Control Dual Monitors moving windows between desktops

So far I like the new Mission Control however I am having what I beleive to be an issue.
I have a dual monitor setup and multiple Desktops configured. If I want to move a window from Primary Monitor Desktop 1 to Primary Monitor Desktop 2 it works but if I want to move a window from Primary Monitor Desktop 1 to Secondary Monitor Desktop 2 it will not let me. I have to do the move in two steps. First I have to move it to Primary Monitor Desktop 2 and then from there I can move it to Secondary Monitor Desktop 2 ?
Please can someone verify this ? Is this a limitation or a bug ?

Hehe, Linux+Compiz rulezzz. You can tweak it the way YOU need and not Apple think you should do 'cause they "just knows better what market needs"
My ideal setup on Linux workstation was: 2 Graphics Cards, 4 Monitors, 2 of them fixed, so I could put there applications and windows which should be permanently seen, for example -- Zenoss monitoring dashboard (screen 1) and stocks tickers (screen 2)
Screen 3 and 4 respectively were part of the Compiz Cube with Xinerama activated, e.g. one extra wide desktop across 2 monitors, seen as semi-transparent Cube during transitions between 4 virtual destops, so I could almost immediately see where all my windows are.
And now, Apple, could you tell me, If I've got Mac Pro with 2 Graphics Cards and 4 Monitors, is such a setup feasible with Mission Control?... OK, ok, you don't have such an eycandy as Transparent Compiz Cube, I could survive without, but having simultaneously 2 monitors as part of virtual desktop and 2 others fixed is absolut 'a must have', so, now's your turn... HOW?

  • Dual Monitors - Moving windows around

    I have an external monitor attached to my iMac. The other day, I needed to move Safari out of the main window and on to the external. Since then, whenever I open up the program, it appears in the second window. Here's what I have tried:
    1 - I have unplugged the external monitor which forced the Safari back to the main screen. When I plugged the external monitor back in and reopened Safari, it was still on the second screen.
    2 - I have "gathered displays" and it did not correct the situation.
    3 - I have moved Safari to the main window, closed out Safari properly, and it still opened in the second monitor screen.
    4 - Standing on my head and screaming didn't help.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    You might not have done it quite this way, so just to be sure...
    WIth monitor connected, open a new safari window, which presumably appears on the external display.
    Don't do anything with the window except move it to the desired display. Close the window. Don't quit Safari.
    Open a new window, it is supposed to open where you put the last one.

  • Customize mission control to show only windows from current desktop Space

    Finder in Mission Control is a mess, a mega super huge mess, when you are a multitask user, and have 2, 3... differents desktops doing different task, usually there are at least one common app, Finder, with multiple windows (thanx God, thanx! for bring Finder tabs in Mavericks, You rocks...), and when you brow just "app windows" Mission control shows you the hundred and so windows you has been opened arround all the desktops!!!
    SO, whats the point here??? why in **** anyone would to want all the Finder windows opened in the "photography deticated desktop" messed with the windows at the "videogames desktop" and the "receipts/budget" desktop?
    please, anyone, tell me that I'm a complete fool and this can be easly fixed with a few clics...

    You can open Mission Control, which will show your main space at first, and 4-finger swipe right (on Macbook Pro, I don't know the keys without a trackpad) to switch to the next. You will only see the active windows in the other space then.

  • Why does mission control switch the order of my desktops? is this a bug?

    Hey I'm new to these discussion forums, but I think I may have found a bug in Lion. If you look at the attached screen shot, you'll see desktop 3 is in the location that desktop 2 should be (second from the left). This has been happening randomly and I have to restart my computer to fix it. Logging out and back in doesn't fix the problem. When I press ctrl+2, or ctrl+3 it goes to desktop 2 and 3 respectively; however, when I'm in desktop 1, and press ctrl+>, it goes to desktop 3 (since it's right next to 1).
    Also, I would really like to be able to move my applications between desktops (spaces). Previous OS X's gave the functionality with the Spaces Overview screen that let me see all of my spaces and move applications in between spaces. How can I move applications in between spaces without first going to that space, then going to mission control, then moving the item to that space (simple operations have been made more tedious due to mission control).

    At this stage you cant move applications between desktops without accessing a desktop first. I know, silly byt its how it is in Lion.

  • Mission control won't show windows properly.

    Mission control (expose) won't show windows properly. It's really annoying when I'm working and need to see what I've got opened or switch between apps. Sometimes it'll display them correctly, other times it won't. See the 2 screenshots open 3 windows:
    1st screenshot: http://cl.ly/image/0U0q1N3J0Z2f
    - chrome browser
    - finder
    - messages
    2nd screenshot:http://cl.ly/image/2F0T3o1z0e3Z
    only icons of chrome and finder are shown, but no windows. No messages not even the icon.
    I'd really love all the help you can provide.

    My problem started when the update to 10.7.5 ran. Mission Control in the Dock continued to work as before the update.
    In System Settings>Mouse, the side buttons on my Might Mouse had been changed to 'Expose - App Windows.' I  had to change the setting back to Mission Control.
    Perhaps MtnLion suffered a similar glitch.

  • Mission control and separation of windows

    When going into mission control you can tell for example if you have 5 ms word windows but they are all stacked on top of each other. Can they be more organized like when you right click and hit show all windows?
    Also when dragging in mission control can you achieve the same goal making the dragged window stay in that spot and not allow it to move back apart from putting it to a new desktop?
    Thanks.

    I found what is causing the problem, and solved also the other problem I had with locking the screensaver in System Preferences
    Very simple, now that I tried everything for days
    I used a different password for my keychain
    If  I use the same one for both my login and the keychain everything goes back in place
    and works!

  • Mission Control - assign a document to a desktop?

    I'm enjoying mission control and using it more and more.  I have stumbled across a feature that I can't tell if it is real or a bug.  I understand the process of assigning an application to a specific desktop or all.  However, I seem to have adhered a pages document to a desktop, while keeping other pages documents available in all desktops.
    Situation - document1.pages is available exclusively in Desktop 1.  Documents 2.pages, 3.pages and 4.pages are available in all desktops.  So if I go to desktop 1 I see document1, 2, 3, 4.  If I go to desktop 2 I only see documents 2, 3 and 4.  Is this a glitch?  If not, how did I do it?  I work on multiple tasks throughout the day and would love to group documents and files into a single desktop and not have it based on the app.  IE I'd like to have files 1.numbers and 1.pages in Desktop 1 and files 2.numbers & 2.pages in Desktop 2.  This way I can focus on the task that the documents are associated with, not the app.
    Let me know if this needs clarification.
    Thanks in advance!
    Dylan

    This only seems to be a temporary state. If you quit the app you're back to square one - it will not relaunch in the same desktop so you have to go to mission control and reorganise again. In spaces on 10.6 one could assign apps to a certain space and they'd stay there.
    It's the same with full screen apps. By default full screen apps get their own desktop but if you are in Safari (full screen) and open a new window it goes to a new desktop. This is extremly annoying.
    Used to using command ~ to cycle through open app windows but this doesn't work when they're on separate desktops.

  • Unable to use dual monitors in Windows 7

    I just got a T500 and am unable to use my dual monitors.  We use a docking station to hook up all of the periphals.  The VGA connector works fine.  The monitor on the DVI is not recognized.  Drivers have been updated and the monitor is operational.  I get a Generic Non-Pnp Monitor as the only choice because it is not recognizing the second monitor.  Any suggestions?

    Does the DVI cable work properly?
    I know as a fact that dual displays work on a T500 with Windows 7.
    Do you ahve the regular Advanced Mini-Dock http://www.hoathanhlaptops.com/upload/nhd_Docking%20T4xx.jpg or is it some other type of port replicator?
    Does the Monitor come with any install discs?
    Lastly, does the Monitor support both DVI and VGA?  What happens if you plug that monitor in with a VGA cable?

  • Has anyone experienced a problem where Mission control randomly changes the window?

    Focus will be shifted from randomly between windows and desktops or windows will be resized

    Hey first, carefully re type ur password, secondly reboot once more.

  • HT4689 Can we make mission control not stack the windows of the same app?

    I often have multiple Word windows open and it's very hard to find the one I need when they are stacked in Mission Control. I like the fact that with a four-finger swipe you can see all the open programs, but it's not quite useful if apps are stacked (so I can't find which is which), and minimized apps apps are not shown.
    In comparison, MS Windows makes it easier to locate an open program although less fancy-looking.

    Hi keclear,
    If you would prefer that Mission Control not stack the open windows for each application, you may want to turn off the "Group windows by application" setting. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Possible for JRockit Mission Control to Monitor Multiple Web Applications

    I have some questions regarding JRockit and Weblogic Server.
    The JRockit Mission Control allows users to monitor JRockit JVMs.
    If a JVM runs a Weblogic server instance which runs a couple of web aplications, is it possible to monitor individual web applications separately?
    If it's possible, is there any kind soul who can guide me through the process in setting up.
    Please assist. Many Thanks!
    Thanks,
    Benjamin

    Hi,
    You can use *"wlnav.war"* which is freely available on net. to monitor Servers along with some of the Application attributes like application state/ Session count/ ...etc
    "wlnav.war" actually uses WebLogic MBeans to get the details of the Server and Applications...Same thing we can do using our own MBean JMX Codes as well... But still these JMX codes will not be able to tell exactly that which object belongs to which Application.

  • IE11 in Windows 8.1 changes scale when moving window between screens

    Hi,
    I'm using Windows 8.1 with IE11 on a Dell Latitude E6510 with an external LG screen. I use both screens in my daily work and when I move a IE11 window from the internal screen in my laptop to the external LG screen, the scaling in IE11 changes and gets smaller.
    It happens when the windows is halfway over to the external screen. On the way back it changes again and gets bigger. I've use the "One scaling for all my screens" in the Control Panel|Display applet without success. It's only IE11 that has this
    behaviour, no other programs does this.
    Brgds Jonas

    Hi Brgds Jonas,
    I agree with  Robert Aldwinckle .
    In addition, Windows 8.1 definitely seems to be doing some automatic display scaling here, as has been rumored based on beta builds of the OS.
    The first option is for multiple monitors with different ppi. windows will choose for you based on what the ppi is. use trial and error until you get the size you want and both monitors will be about that size. if they are close in ppi it will not scale
    them differently because I am pretty sure it only chooses from the default scaling sizes.

  • Mission Control second monitor...

    Hello!
    In Snow leopard expose showed all the windows even if I used a second monitor I could see all windows in my first screen!
    Now in Lion I only see the acual windows at the actual monitor...
    There is a problem with that... if I don´t have the second monitor on and a software window is placed on that second monitor I can't see it... I have to start the second monitor or get into double screen!
    Please help if there is a solution for that!

    Hi Bansaku,
    Sorry to hear you're in the same boat. At least we don't have to suffer in silence : )
    I'm also the same with desktop pictures being messed up (I also wish they'd let us rename each Desktop e.g. Photoshop, Mail, Safari etc).
    I don't tend to restart my Mac that often, but overtime I do, my spaces are all are of sync.
    Is there any easy way to report this problem to Apple?
    Thanks!

  • Remote control iPhone 4 via Windows Laptop/Desktop

    Hello,
    I was wodnering if there was a way to remotely control my iPhone via my Windows Laptop? My speaker system is across the room which is hooked up to my iPhone, so everytime I want to change to a specific song or skip a song, I would have to get up and manually change it.
    I have seen apps in the store that allow you use the iPhone control another apple device, or use your iPhone as the remote. However in this case, I want to use my computer as the remote.
    Anyone have any ideas or tips? Thanks in advance.

    Gave it a look, tried all the troubleshooting. My IP addresses are the same, so now I really don't understand. I'm just super confused. If it hadn't ever worked, I would just write it off as my university network being too strict... but now that it has worked once and really... nothing changed... I am just very confused.

  • Moving windows between separate X screens

    I've just switched over to using separate X screens for various different reasons and the only thing I can't get sorted is to find a way to move a window from one screen to another. I've tried 'xmove' and 'wmctrl' so far but had no joy. I don't want to go back to using twinview and searching around the usual supects is turning up nothing besides what i've already mentioned.
    From what i've read it's (quite easily) do-able on other platforms but does anyone know if this is possible on Linux?

    I believe this can be done, at least from GTK level. Here is a short example of how this can be achieved:
    #include <gtk/gtk.h>
    #include <gdk/gdk.h>
    GtkWindow * mainWindow;
    GdkDisplay *second_display;
    GdkScreen *second_screen;
    static void print_hello (GtkWidget *widget, gpointer data)
    g_print ("Hello World\n");
    GdkScreen* screen = gtk_window_get_screen(mainWindow);
    gint number = gdk_screen_get_number(screen);
    g_print ("Opened in screen %d \n",number);
    gtk_window_set_screen (mainWindow, second_screen);
    screen = gtk_window_get_screen(mainWindow);
    number = gdk_screen_get_number(screen);
    g_print ("Now in screen %d \n",number);
    int main (int argc, char *argv[])
    GtkWidget *window;
    GtkWidget *button;
    gtk_init (&argc, &argv);
    second_display = gdk_display_open (":0.1");
    second_screen = gdk_display_get_default_screen (second_display);
    window = gtk_window_new (GTK_WINDOW_TOPLEVEL);
    mainWindow = GTK_WINDOW(window);
    gtk_window_set_title (GTK_WINDOW (window), "Hello");
    g_signal_connect (window, "destroy", G_CALLBACK (gtk_main_quit), NULL);
    gtk_container_set_border_width (GTK_CONTAINER (window), 10);
    button = gtk_button_new_with_label ("Hello World");
    g_signal_connect (button, "clicked", G_CALLBACK (print_hello), NULL);
    gtk_container_add (GTK_CONTAINER (window), button);
    gtk_widget_show (button);
    gtk_widget_show (window);
    gtk_main ();
    return 0;
    This is modified from hello world example of gtk. Save the code to simple.c, then it should be compiled with:
    gcc -o simple simple.c `pkg-config --libs --cflags gtk+-2.0`
    The program will be started with a button inside, on where you start it. When button is clicked, the window will be move to the screen with display name ":0.1", you can change that value in source code to have it move to other screen.
    As far as I known, Gimp and emacs utilized this ability so that you can move their windows to other screen.
    I am not comfirmed but I think there is a similiar way to do so in QT. So if a program use either GTK or QT, its windows is capable to move to other screens.
    I do not know whether this can be done in Xlib or Xcb, and how this is done in GTK. Maybe they re-created a new X window and re-map everything to that container. So maybe it is hard to control in Window Managers. Its upon the developer of applications to make this ability available.
