Mission Control messing with Lion's default background

Strange and frustrating Mission Control behaviour in the attached picture. Lion's default background pops-up to block most of the desktops. This happens atleast with my external Acer display (with Apple's display port to dvi adapter) but it has sometimes occurred with the native display too. Then there is this another annoying feature when I shutdown my computer and the OS asks do I want to open up the same windows on the start-up. Lion surely opens up everything but every app window is on the same desktop so I have to re-arrange them. Changing Mission Control preferences does not help, the apps are cluttered on the same desktop on startup.

  • Indesign cs6 menu and tool bar disappear between windows using mission control in mountain lion

heres 2  screen grabs before and after. while navigating between 'spaces' using mission control in mountain lion. issue -  the menu and tools bars disappear - not all of them just parts of them. to get back i hit 'tab' button twice which hides and shows tools. very annoying - does anyone know of a fix or is this another bug which i have to live with. im using a macpro june 2012/running 10.8.4 and 2 screens - left for artboard - right for all tool windows.

thanks steve - yes that works as does using the tab key - all well....until i move to another 'space' and then come back again.
for example: my setup is like this - no2 space has indesign project. no3 space has photoshop. so im working on a page within indesign and i need to edit an image- i double click the pic and it opens in photoshop on the other 'space' save the file and go back to indesign to update pic and find menu/tools all over the place - so hit tab twice back to normal -  until i 'move' out of that space into another - photoshop/ mail/ whatever - as i toggle between spaces the indesign menu will always be 'corrupt' for a better word. hope that makes sense.

  • How do I add spaces in mission control in mountain lion?

I use an external monitor on the right side of my mbp, the external monitor (when in use) is my main screen. I want my (auto retracting) dock on the right side of my right screen (the external one). The top right corner is my hot corner for mission control.
With this setup, when I move my mouse to the right top corner I'll enter mission control, but somehow the "add a new space pop-up button" will not show up. I haven't tried this setup in Lion so I do not know if this is a bug for ML. I really like my dock on the right side of the screen, left is no option and I'm sick of having it at the bottom, but I do want to be able to add spaces, any thoughts how to do this?

    multiple ways,
    go to mission control and:
hold option, a half of a desktop with a plus will appear, click it.
drag an application's window next to the spaces there are already.
put an app in fullsreen mode.
move mouse over the top left side of the screen, and the desktop with the plus sign will appear to add a new space.

  • HT4689 With mission control in Mountain Lion, is there a setting that displays a document name when it is selected?

For example, if I have 4 word documents open, and go to mission control so they are all displayed, can I turn a feature on that displays the document name when my mouse is over each document?
Like in the picture, if I have my mouse over a document, the name of the document isn't displayed.  Can I change this?

    Hey!
I just got a new mac and was trying to figure out the same thing today!! I went from an older version to this 10.9.  I called apple support, the tech had no idea what I was talking about.  I was transferred to a manager who told me that it is not feature available on the new models.  After a 40 minute conversation I was about to let it go and then I saw this post and became determined LOL ... and I figured it out (SMH apple support).  So here is how you do you it:
system preferences > trackpad > you want to make sure the "App Expose" is checked off > and you're done!!
I am not able to upload a 2 photos so I will post a second screenshot of what it looks like once the preferences are set.

  • How can i use my pictures for Mission Control Spaces in Lion?

How do I get a chosen selection of my own photos to be available for use as desktop pictures, with a different one for each Space in Mission Control in Lion?
I have a new Macbook Air, Thunderbolt display and Lion.

As long as your Office for Mac is 2011, you will have no problems using the programs.  If it is the Office for Mac 2008 version, there have been some mixed reviews.  2004 will not work at all.
I have the 2011 version and have not had any problems since upgrading to Lion.

  • Is Mission Control broken with external display?

With mountain lion on macbook pro and an externel monitor attached to it, (and I close the macbook pro display to use only the external display), when I invoke the mission control, I dont see the preview of all the spaces (at the top) and I dont see the "add desktop" button at the top right corner as well.
Once I open the macbook display (such that I am working with both external and laptop display), I see these (add desktop button as well as preview of spaces), on the macbook display where as the big window at the bottom of the screen which shows each application is in the external monitor.
Because of this, I cant use multiple spaces with external monitor only.
Am I missing something or this is a bug??

  • Cannot find Mission Control in OSX Lion

Just got a new macbook and was excited to try out all the new features of OSX Lion. I keep seeing information online about Mission Control, but I am unable to bring it up. Supposedly it is a 3 finger up swipe on the trackpad, but that doesn't do anything when I try it. I can't find it anywhere else on the computer. Please help!

Mission Control is an application in the Applications folder. There also should be an icon in the Dock that looks like this:

  • Unwanted Mission control openings with mouse movement

Many times Mission Control will open when I make a fast movement up or down with Magic Mouse. It's happening more and more, and very annoying.
ais there any way to turn it off? I can't figure out what iscausing it.  Thanks - Rick

It's caused by a double-tap with two fingers on top of the Mouse.
You can turn it off in System Preferences > Mouse > More Gestures tab > uncheck Mission Control.

  • Does mission control interfere with mail?

I was experimenting with mission control. I had 2 desktops declared. I tried to use mail but it hung. I had to force-quit. Is there some incompatibility between multiple desktops and mail, or was it just a coincidence?
By hanging, I mean that messages were listed on the left side but did not appear on the right; the application did not respond when I clicked anything. It started when I clicked "get mail" and it took forever; no messages appeared. I quit from the menu. I could not get back in successfully (my memory is fading now); I must have gotten back in to observe the frozen state. I tried to shut down, but the system complained that I had to quit mail first; could not quit; had to force-quit.
After force-quitting I was able to shut down. Fired the system back up; got back in; activated mail; it paused for a long time (2-3 minutes), then proceeded to act normally.

This does not appear to be a question, so please send your feedback to apple.com/feedback and go back to snow leopard if you must

  • Desktop background problems:  27" iMac/Mission Control

I've just installed a 27" iMac running 10.8 with 16 GB RAM.  I use 4 desktops at a time with different backgrounds in each.  When changing between e.g. desktops 2 and 3, via CTRL-right-arrow, Mission Control annoyingly flashes the desktop 1 background before replacing it with the desktop 3 background.
I have replicated the problem on the other 27" iMac's I have access to, and with a variety of desktop backgrounds (e.g. only the Apple provided ones)
and with various amounts of RAM (8 GB to 16GB).  It is a consistent problem on all 27" iMac's running 10.8 as far as I can see.
Mission Control handled multiple desktop backgrounds flawlessly under my previous set up (iMac 21"/10.7).
Does anyone know how to fix this behavior?

  • Mission control glitch

I'm having problems with Mission Control, a glitch where the old background picture keeps appearing under the opened windows on Desktop 1 space, but partially over the thumbnails of the space on the top of the screen. Same happens when I'm on the Dashboard space, but the background image blocking the thumbnails is the Dashboard dotted background picture. And also, there is nothing unusual with a full-screen-app space, such as Google Chrome, or Desktop 2 onwards.
I tried to find a discussion here that could help me, someone experiencing a similar bug, but I didn't find anything. Have someone experience the same sort of glitch? What is going on with Mountain Lion?
    Thanks

    Confirmed on Yosemite too.

  • Maintaining Mission Control Configuration

    Greetings,
Possibly a simple question, yet I haven't found a solution online so far:
I set up my Mission Control settings with destops containing fullscreen applications. I have five of them. I like these desktops arranged in a particular order. Whenever I reboot the computer the desktops reopen but in a seemingly random order. At least its not the order I left them in.
The other thing is, the last one of these desktops to open is always the "active" desktop and not generally the one I want to use first. I know it's a detail, but is it possible to just set things up so that all desktops open in the order they were left in while leaving THE desktop (original desktop) as the active screen?
Hope that was decipherable. Many thanks for any tips.

Sorry. Forgot to mention I'm using Mountain Lion on an iMac. I had had "automatically rearrange spaces based on most recent use" checked off  in Mission Control Settings but it made no difference to the problem described above.

  • Issues with Lion, anyone having the same ones?

I'm having several of issues with Lion (mostly with Safari).   Wondering if anyone else has these problems.  I'm hoping/assuming these will be bugs that Apple will fix with a software update?   Or if therres any fix for them?
    1.   Zoom while in Safari,  the 2 finger pinch and zoom feature stops working after a while usually.  I used to like the zoom in snow leopard where on a webpage it would zoom you in while keeping the page contents within the screen.  You can still accomplish this by doing the command + shortcut.  But I really liked the touchpad feature.  I don't mind the way the zoom works on safari (zooming in wihtout keeping the page in the screen).   But my problem is it stops working after a certain amount of time.
    2.  Safari freezing up.   Yes, my safari is freezing and I'm needing to force quit every now and then.   Never really had that problem with snow leopard.
    3.  Swiping to go to my desktop.   When I try to 4 finger swipe to get to my desktop or something (going to the left always),  My launchpad keeps coming up.  Thats HORRIBLY annoying.   I have to go to my icons and manually turn launchpad off.    This might be my most annoying problem.
    4.  Getting mission control up with the four fingers swiping up usually takes 2 or 3 swipes,   and also when I'm in mission control and I want to go to something on my desktop (if I have 2 or 3 things open while having mail and safari on full screen), it takes 2 or 3 clicks to select whatever I want to go to.
Overall I really DO like lion.  Just don't like those glitches Ive seen so far.   Anyone having the same problems?

Yes! I see the same! Extremely annoying. And as long as the pinch-zoom works, it's very unstable, and sometimes seems to freeze Safari with a "fuzzy" picture. It doesn't really freeze it, though, I can still use otheropen tabs, and usually a double-tap zoom "wakes" the "frozen tab".

  • Default Background Colour not Black?

I'm having a very irritating problem with the Windows default background colour.
A while ago I had set it to this off-shade of yellow, but now whenever I make a new theme (or even load a saved one) my background colour reverts to this aforementioned yellow instead of whatever I have set it to. Which means my themes can never be saved
and loaded, lest I want to see that awful colour again.
A step-by-step process for those who are having trouble understanding my wording:
make new unsaved theme, bg colour is currently set to yellow. I switch it to black, it works as intended.
    Save this theme.
Whenever I load the saved theme, the background colour is yellow, not black, despite all other personalizations saving correctly.
Is there a way to change the default colour so that all themes behave as intended, rather than reverting to my previously selected colour?

  • Magic mouse/mission control malfunction?

I just put a Magic Maus into operation and all is basically working as expected, except one thing: while I can activate Mission Control (ugh) with the two-finger tap in the center, when I right-click I once again get Mission Control (ugh) instead of the traditional submenu that System Preferences says I should be getting.

    A few things...
Well first off, thanks captfred for the Mission Control pref-pan clue. I was able to remove the right click command there.
To X42424X, it sure was't that issue. I was going so far as to click on the very far right edge of the mouse.
Cptfred, you state that the double finger tap is for secondary click but everything I've seen (mostly from Apple itself) says the double finfger tap is for Mission Control.
    Ayway, thanks all.
