Mission Control no longer works

Just upgraded to Mountain Lion a few days ago and suddenly my Mission Control no longer works when I press the asigned button.  Thinking it was my mouse, I went to the Logitech website and downloaded the latest drivers and updates that are supposed to be compatible with Mountain Lion, but after an hour or so, the side buttons stop working when I try to use them for Mission Control.  Is this a known issue with Mountain Lion?

No, it is a known issue, or bug, within Mountain Lion.  I found a temporary solution here:

I just wish Apple would do soemthing to resolve the problem.  They've had over a month.

  • Voice control no longer works after upgrade to iOS 4

Everything about iOS 4 has been great so far on my 3Gs, except that voice control no longer works. Holding the home button still brings up the voice control, and the "voice" confirms whatever action I say, but then instead of doing whatever it is supposed to, the phone just goes back to the home screen. Everything in voice control worked fine before I updated to iOS 4, so obviously it is a software issue. Has anyone else having the same issue?

I'm having the same problems. I have a 32GB iPhone 3GS which I upgraded to iOS 4.0 (previously running 3.1.3).
I've tried a full restore as well as changing the Voice Control language settings in General > International > Voice Control. I'm English and based in the UK and had my Voice Controls previously set to English (British). The weird thing is if I set my Voice Control to English (American) and then impersonate an American accent - then it works fine! Change it back and it's just the same - takes an age to finish recognising anything and then it's nowhere near what I said.
Hope that info helps out in diagnosing the problem.

  • Mission Control does not work!!!!!!!!

    Hi all,
I have recently Reformatted my mac and made it into 1 partition of 500gb just to run mac os x. I did it with the discs the laptop came with.
After OSx install was complete, I ran the os x lion downloaded from the app store and installed it too. After completely updating the system with software updates and my other software like ms office, vlc, flash, iLife etc.
I have found that the mission control does not work sometimes. It allows you to swipe from screen to screen but when when you swipe up.. It hides the top apple bar but nothing else happens.. Everything else is fine so far.
When I turn my mac on. If it gets stuck the only way to make it work again is to restart. Which is a bit annoying.. Plz tell me if it's a bug or something.
If that happens to someone else as well?
    Thanks

Does it work ok if you create a new user?
    To create a user account:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Users & Groups. Click the lock icon to unlock it, and type an administrator name and password.
Click the Add button below the list of accounts, choosing a type of account Standard is fine) from the New Account pop-up menu.

  • Mission Control won't work after sleeping.  Upon Start up it's fine, but after sleeping it won't work by track pad or keyboard.

Since updating, Mission Control won't work after sleeping.  Upon Start up it's fine, but after sleeping it won't work by trackpad or keyboard. I'm sure I use Mission Control more than most, so it's really irritating for me.

No, the versions of iPhoto on the iPad and on OS X are totally different.
What Apple ID are you using for the Mac App Store? Who else has access to that Apple ID, or what possible other Apple IDs could be in use? It's possible you'll need to purchase iPhoto to get the upgrade, though I'd think Software Update should offer you the correct version.

  • Mission Control is not working on my Macbook Air

I can not ge the mission control feature to work. At first I thought it was a trackpad issue, but every other feature of the trackpad works. Then I tried to use the F3 button and that didn't work. Then I tried clicking on the mission control app, nothing. Does anyone know if this can be fixed?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).

  • My Mission Control is not working. Any help?

    Software Issues - Troubleshooting
    Try a restart.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

  • Desktop background disappears, Mission Control doesn't work correctly

Sometimes it happens that my desktop background completely dissappears, and Mission Control stops working as well.
It seems to happen when I open a new window in a fullscreen app (like Safari), and while it's opening I switch to another space.
Whenever this happens, my desktop changes to the Dashboard background, and Mission Control doesn't show the other spaces anymore (but you can see active windows in your main space). I've added pictures below.
I can still swipe between spaces, my dock still works and all apps still work in all spaces.
Any way to fix this without rebooting? To avoid this happening (apart from me being more patient)?
This is my desktop at the moment:
    And this is Mission Control:
I am using: Macbook Pro 5,4
    OS X 10.7.1
2,53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

I am experiencing the same thing as most of us, exactly as explained by - Acid_Raccoon.
UK-Max - This is not just a specific problem involving external screens. The dissappearing wallpaper, and loss of function of mission control (do not show spaces, but you can click in empty area where it should be located and it actually works as normal) occurs also when there is no
external screen input involved - You have to restart computer for it to return to normal. As a matter of fact, I am experiencing it right now for the 10th time in 1 week period, and it´s quite annoying. I would guess more than just a few people are experiencing this, and as postmechanical mentioned about having a brand new computer - this shouldn´t occur, and if so should get a fix immediately.
Over time, I have experiencing other system problems produced from installing OS lion. Sure it deliver a few smart, and smooth features, but since more and more bugs are discovered (and not fixed by apple), I am considering returning to snow leopard. For instance, sometimes when my computer goes into screensaver, it can shift to a picture of pixels (black&white) in 4:3 screen ration. This has never occurred before installing Lion. Another thing which is extremely annoying is that since installing lion, my computer refuses to go to sleep when I close my lid. Nothing happens, and it just stays on. I have to manually select in apple-menu to sleep.
I really hope Apple take these notes people have mentioned in this forum (and others) seriously, and fix them. I really hope Apple show more custumer service-spirits, than Apple´s lack of hardware-quality. (I have owned 4 apple computers(1 powerbook G4, 1 macbook & 2 macbook pro), brand new, and 3 of them have experienced hardware-failure on more than one occasion in less than a year. The one that didnt required service was my powerbook G4 titanium, released in 2001, and kept going for 4 years straight without any problems.) (Actually, the last one experienced 3 times in-a-row mother-card failure). I only go for Apple´s products due to its smart and clean features (and seriously PC is not an alternative if you want to stay mentally healthy), but what I´ve been reading on multiple forums over the web, more than a few, experience occuring hardware problems with their Apple computer.
I guess this is the result of Apple trying to push for higher revenues. If Apple keep go in the same directions as it has been doing in the last 4-5 years it will be its doom, and loose the customers that once caught the Apple-wave due to it´s innovative and personal aspect, but most important - it´s superiour quality it once had! Apple´s products is quite expensive, and thus should be combined with its smart and innovative system, along with lasting quality. But if $ revenue is the only thing that keep Apple going nowdays, and produce smart product that is meant to last for only 2-3 years maximum, it is deeply disturbing and the company will loose track of what stevie was initially producing - clean, smooth system (just works, no migraine), with everlasting quality far seen in PC-world. Apple - please consider !

  • RP:Lock Control/Unlock Control no longer work as they did in 7.1.

I need to control access to remote panels programmaticly. In LabVIEW 7.1.1 I was able to pass strings via VIServer to a CaseHandler VI running in the local application space which would issue the Remote Panel Lock and Unlock methods. After converting the CaseHandler to LabVIEW 8.2 these methods no longer work, even if I run the VI directly.
Are these methods expected to work in 8.2, are there any work arounds?
    Thanks
    Phil Bailey

    Phil,
Last word I received was that they had told the development team.  I am sure NI will include the fix in the next release, but aside from that, I have no indication that NI will distribute an update.  I do have a tracking number and I attempted to contact the support group today only to find that they were out of the office due to the inclement weather occuring in Austin.  I will try again tomorrow, and the next day ad finitum until I get the issue resolved.
My workaround was the same as yours, not clean and entierly unacceptable, especially when considering that the description of these functions in the help docs was written with the desired functionality in mind. It taunts the programmer by describing the functionality that the programmer needs, only to supremely dissapoint the programmer who, after debugging the entire software project, finds that the error lies beyond his grasp!
I had to really convince them that this was really not working.  I am surprised that I haven't received word back on the resolution.  I then looked at the status of the service request and someone has marked it as "presumed resolved".  I will update you on the status via this thread.  We WILL get to the bottom of this!  Or, perhaps are we demanding too much of an API?  Programming with the functionality in mind and then expecting that functionality to actually work...

  • Mission control doesn't work

Let me start with a little history for my problem. Some odd months ago Expose stopt working in OS 10.6, i couldn't get it to work with the F-keys and with the mousepad gestures. I searched the internet for some time and found some possible solutions.
I hoped that, with the instal of Lion, the Expose problem was gone due to the arrival of Mission Control. Unfortunatly Mission Control has the same issues. I can't get it to with the F-keys, hot corners or finger swipes. When I create a new user account in Lion, it works like a charm, but in my account it doesn't.
I googled for all kinds of solutions (fixing permissions with the disk utility app, rebooting, etc.) but nothing worked. Since it works in my other account of my MacBook, can't i just copy the files that makes it work in that account to my normal account? Or is there some other solution?
    Thanks in advance!
    Zuyp

  • Video post processing/quality control no longer works in flash player

I use to watch videos via http://www.channel5.com and was able to use the post processing features in the AMD driver to improve the picture quality.
Now, it no longer works. Is this because hardware acceleration isn't working?
For a while I was able to use it in Internet Explorer, Sometimes in Firefox but never in Chrome. Now even with internet explorer it doesn't seem to work correctly.
I am using the latest flash versions for all platforms and the latest browser and driver version from AMD too.
Has Adobe changed something with the latest version of flash which cause a problem with the AMD Driver? Why is there no longer a Hardware Acceleration check-box in Internet Explorer?
I am using Windows 8.1 and I have the setting in the AMD CCC "apply current vdieo quality settings to internet video" checked. I have made sure in Firefox and Chrome hardware acceleration is enabled both in flash player settings and in the browser settings.
Thanks for any pointers you can give.

It may be for you, but it isn't for me in Internet Explorer, by comparison though, there is the box available in Chrome and Firefox...although in Chrome it doesn't do anything.
I did some more testing; With Internet Explorer hardware acceleration seems to be dependant on the website you watch.
For example, using IE to visit http://www.dailymotion.com the post processing options work fine, but when on http://www.channel5.com they do not. Is there any reason why this is?
As for other browsers, it seems hardware acceleration just isn't working at all since post processing never works on chrome.
On Firefox it seems to behave the same way as IE, e.g it works on some sites but not others.
I thought I may be able to get around this by disabling the pepper flash player in chrome, but it doesn't seem to make any difference, either its still using the built-in one or it still doesn't work at all with hardware acceleration.
Either way none of these achieve what I was able too before, get hardware acceleration working with http://www.channel5.com .

  • Remote Control no longer works

Sometime in the past year, my apple remote stopped working with my Macbook Pro. None of the buttons work 99% of the time. It used to be that just clicking the menu button on the remote took me to Frontrow, but this doesn't work anymore. Once in a great while, I'll test the remote by pushing the menu button, and Frontrow does start (1 out of 20 times maybe). But after it has started, the remote goes back to not functioning.
The remote itself seems to work fine: I used the camera to see the IR signal flashing, and pushing any button on it always wakes up the sleeping macbook that's sitting across the other end of the room.
The IR receiver on my macbook pro also appears to work fine: I took the MBPro to an apple store, where they booted up from an external harddrive and had the apple remote work just fin.
So the problem appears to be localized to a software issue on my macbook.
I'm not sure what software I've installed since it stopped working. The biggest change was an upgrade to OSX 10.6 from 10.5.
The only hint I have that some piece of software running in the background is interfering is that when I turn on Hulu Desktop (which I used to use with my apple remote all the time with no problem) I get a warning that says "You appear to be running another third-party application that utilizes the apple remote hardware. you may wish to close that application if you experience any problems using your remote in Hulu Desktop". The problem is that I have no idea what this third-party application might be.
Using Activity Monitor, I've systematically gone and deleted every process that is running (and that I think is non-essential). But this method didn't get me any closer to finding the culprit. Unless the culprit is my antivirus program (Sophos) because there are processes running from it which can't even be forcequitted.
here is what I have starting up when I login:
    Quicksilver
    GrowlHelperApp
    iTunesHelper
    AppTrap
    GrowlMenu
    Xmarks for safari
    Dropbox
    SophosUIServer
here are the (3rd party) applications I've installed that I'm pretty sure make use of the apple remote
    Boxee
    Hulu Desktop
    Miro
    PandoraBoy
    Plex
The last thing I want to do is Reinstall the OS from scratch (getting all of my work related software, photos, music, etc back to normal would take hours of time that I just don't have). Any suggestions about what I could try next would be GREATLY appreciated.

    I've found the problem.
These applications (boxee and plex specifically) are configured to hijack the apple remote to make the menu button open them instead of frontrow. So the problem I had was 2 fold.
First: The applications were competing with each other for control of the remote. Since I had them both installed, and they were both configured to keep tabs on what the remote was doing, they were both competing for the remote IR and it was causing problems. Deleting Plex fixed this issue, but I could have just as easily reconfigured the settings on both of these applications to ignore the remote IR when the applications were not running (which is what I have now done with Boxee).
Second: Both applications were running on an older version of the Remote IR (which was updated when snow leopard came out). So in their attempt to hijack the menu button on the remote using the old driver software, they were locking the whole thing up. To fix this problem, I downloaded a program called candelair which allows software to interact with the remote using a kind of legacy compatibility mode.
Now, the remote behaves normally when Boxee isn't running (so I can use it to manipulate itunes, Hulu Desktop, and MS Powerpoint with no problems). And when I've got Boxee running, it works with that just fine.
Here's hoping that this solution helps other people out in the future.
