Mission control slow and top bar vanishes
A month ago it started that my mission control suddenly began to "lag". Moving a window would take a few seconds longer than the courser needed und if make a few quick circles with it I can see it swirling around for almost a whole minute. Also my windows won't slowly transist to theire place in mission control and back again. One second they are in full view and the next they are in mission control mode. Fact is: that lag is not normal and it's very diffcult to work with.
This phenomenon happens all the time (rebooting won't solve the problem) except once or twice a week where both animations work perfectly. Only manco: My top Mission control bar is gone. I can still go from space to space with my trackpad gestures but I won't see where I am going.
Further information: I have a fairly new MacBook Pro (2.3 GHz Intel i7, 8 GB RAM) and an OS X Lion update. An update which worked well till a few weeks back.
I hope you can help me.I agree with everything you said about full screen apps, mission control and launchpad. For apps that made sense to run full screen, they already could under SL. Launchpad is totally unnecessary and Mission Control is a mere shadow of Expose and Spaces.
However, I feel you have not given due credit to Spaces. The point of Spaces is to let one organise logical desktops for different tasks, not just a way to reduce the number of windows on display. For example, I have a Space for software development where I run Xcode and the iPhone simulator, a Firefox window showing perhaps documentation or some other websites pertaining to software development, a Finder window that is opened in the folder with my design docs. I have another Space where I have the remote login sessions, yet another Space with another Firefox window where I do general surfing and emailing. I can switch between these spaces using a keyboard shortcut, which is much quicker than having to lift my hand off the keyboard, move it over to the mouse, move the mouse pointer over the Dock, find the app and click on it, only to find that it has switched to the wrong window of the app.
Without Spaces, organisation of my desktop is disrupted each time I want to switch task, whereas Spaces allows me to drop everything I am doing, go and do something completely different for a while and go back to my exact previous environment. I have a 27" iMac so am not short of screen space but I use Spaces extensively. BTW, switching Spaces using a keyboard shortcut is a lot faster on SL than the equivalent on Lion, thanks to the gratuitous screen animation of the latter. -
Launchpad and Mission Control animations are slow
Recently the animations for when opening Launchpad and Mission Control have been slower than usual. All the other animations seem to working fine and it's just those two which are the problem. Now whenever I try to open either one of them it would take ages and theres no point opening it at all. Is there a file that I could edit ot is there a Terminal command to speed it up?

Dock frequently crashes and restarts when entering Mission Control
Hello,
Long time lurker, first time poster here. Hoping someone can help me with this issue.
I am running Mac OS X Lion (10.8) on a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 24" iMac with 12 GB RAM. Peripherals include Apple wired keyboard, Apple Magic Trackpad, Logitech G9x laser mouse, and a Seagate USB External Hard Drive, and an old Dell 17" LCD (E177FP) connected as a second monitor.
Throughout the day, I work with Adobe Photoshop, Abode Indesign, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, BB Edit, Cyberduck, iTunes, Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection, Terminal, Text Edit, Screen Sharing, Microsoft Excel 2011, Microsoft Word 2011, and additional applications across eight desktops in Mission Control (for a total of 16 screens, with the two diaplays).
Approximately 6-12 times a day Mission Control will become unresponsive while entering it, whether by using four-finger swipe up on trackpad, mouse button 4 on Logitech mouse, or control + up arrow on keyboard. I can still move the mouse cursor, type in applications, and click on applications. However, the dock relaunches (all of my minimized windows at restored to my screen) and then Mission Control is responsive again. The window of unavailability is about 10 seconds.
I have used Macs for years now and never before have I had to deal with such a minor (yet frequent) inconvenience. They have always "just worked."
I am including my most recent crash report and am hoping that someone will have a solution that doesn't involve installing the operating system from scratch.
Thank you for your time.
Joe

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2. -
Problems with scrolling and Mission Control
I have this problem:
When scrolling down any page, the letters will blur at the top of the screen and not the bottom.
When swiping acrross pages in the launchpad, it occasionaly freezes half way between the two.
When I swipe up with four fingers to access mission control, the screen becomes very sluggish. Swiping back down (or clicking a tab) is even worse, causing slow "laggy" animations.

My Mission Control is not working. Any help?
Everytime I click in Mission control in the Dock it does nothing, it seems like is disabled.
But when I swipe down with 4 fingers my opened windows appears, except the Desktops.
Help please.
Thanks!Software Issues - Troubleshooting
Try a restart.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

Apps not showing up in Mission Control
that is, when I launch such apps as ones of iWork and iLife suites simultaneously. Some of them are launching very sluggishly (as I posted this in other thread, though related to a different issue), with considerable delay or quitting, I noticed that though an active app indicator shows up, I don't see its main window etc. More recently I noticed that when iPhoto, iMovie and Garage Band are launched simultaneously (with iWork apps), then Mission control displays just iPhoto and iMovie.
I repaired all possible permissions, corrected bad font, reset SMS and PRAM. True, I have 45 GB of free disk space, 4GB of RAM. Maybe it's not enough of memory? But Activity Monitor never showed lack of it. What would you suggest?Try a restart.

I can't see anything in Mission Control with OS X 10.8.4 update
So I installed the new update for Mountain Lion the other day (10.8.4) and before when I went to mission control all the things I had open would show up in their windows; but now they shrink to nothing. The only one that goes into its normal view (little window) is iTunes, all of the others disappear (or just show a very very thin line). Is this just some kind of bug... or what?
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest.
Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2. -
Mission Control + Finder laggy since update
Hello,
i bought a new Macbook Air 2014 i5 with 8GB Ram in May with Mavericks pre-installed. It was fast, snappy and responsive until i updated to Yosemite.
The first thing i noticed was that Mission Control was and still is not as smooth as before while many windows/apps are open. Especially soundcloud.com running in the background slowed it down.
Since yesterday Finder is not as fast as it used to be. Switching between folders takes longer than usual and the CPU Usage goes up a lot.
It's not unusable in any way, but compared to the superfast performance i'm used to it's very slow.
Fixes i already tried with no success:
- SMC Reset
- Deleting the com.apple.finder.plist
- Repair Disc Tool
- a lot of restarts
If i can't fix this problem the next thing i will do is a clean re-install of Yosemite, but i hope won't have to do that.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
PhilI'm seeing the same thing with the same machine.

Mission Control Hot Methods and Events
I have an application that runs slow from time to time. I am trying to create a flight recording to see where the issue is taking place. I would like find methods that are slow, and mainly rule out slow query response in the database tier.
If a DAO method issues a SQL statement, which takes a while to run in the database before the results are returned to the app, which Mission Control view would show this slow behavior? Would it show in the Hot Methods view, since "Hot Methods" are ones that are called frequently and take longer to execute? I am not sure about this, since a database slowness is due to latency where the database tier is having performance issues. Do Hot Methods take into account latencies, or do they only track Java code execution time?
If it does not show on the Hot Methods view, would it show in the "Events" view as maybe a Socket Read latency? Since the database is slow in running the query, the Socket Read may not happen till the result set is ready to be returned to the App.
If none of the above will work, what method should be used to quickly diagnose a slow running database.
Another related question ... after a method is determined "hot" and is optimized, will it continue to show as being "hot" in a later Flight Recording (assuming considerable time is still being spent in executing that method)?
Any information on this is much appreciated!
Thanks.Hi,
Are you using WebLogic?
If you are, you can turn on Flight Recorder events for WLS that track database latencies.
See here for more information:

Mission controll spawning over 90 empty desktops...
I've been noticing my Mac acting a little "sluggish" the last few days. Just had a look at Mission Control and it's displaying 90+ empty desktop instances. It looks like every time I accidentally two-finger swipe left/right, a new instance of my Desktop is pinned to Mission Control. So, a couple questions...
1. How do I close these windows (aside from going one-by-one)?
2. How do I stop these new instances from spawning?
Thanks,

Problem to get Mission Control 3.0.1 running with JBoss 4.2.2GA
Hello,
I'm using JRockit R27.04 to run JBoss 4.2.2GA with the following VM parameters:

Java/JEE Architect - BrasilIt was a good attempt, but I'm still getting the same exceptions.
I tried to create a new service file, and it was successful deployed:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<server>
<mbean code="bea.jrockit.management.JRockitConsole" name="bea.jrockit.management:type=JRockitConsole">
</mbean>
</server>
After it I opened JBoss JMX Console and I saw the following mbeans published:
bea.jrockit.management
type=Compilation
type=DiagnosticCommand
type=GarbageCollector
type=JRA
type=JRockitConsole
type=Log
type=MemLeak
type=Memory
type=PerfCounters
type=Profiler
type=Runtime
So, it appears that all jkrockit MBeans are published, but the problem persist.
Any other suggestion?
Thanks,

I am trying to use powerpoint but when I open a document I want to work on it does not open on my desktop. It appears as open on mission control but it disappears offscreen. How can I get it to open where i need it and can work on it?
It's almost certainly too late.
The time to create a backup is before a catastrophe. After a catastrophe, it's too late. -
How can I fix Dock/Mission Control/Launchpad? (Glitch)
General Description
Mission Control and Launchpad glitch when invoked (whether by using the mouse or trackpad gesture). They seems to crash or quit, and then relaunch themselves (/itself - all the same app?), I know this because:
they both, as well as Dock, become unresponsive;
the desktop background images disappear temporarily (being replaced by blank light or dark grey);
the Mission Control animation stops/freezes and does not execute properly (the windows stay still);
Dock becomes unresponsive as well as Launchpad.
This happens a lot (every other invokation) and seems to be random; it's annoying and is ruining my workflow, since I am a heavy user of multiple desktops.
Behaviour
I usually have over ten desktops, all with active apps open at one time; when it glitches I can't even open or switch applications, though I can use the ones that are on the current desktop (if was trying to use Mission Control).
There is no correlation with the glitch and the amount of applications open, or how much RAM or CPU is active (still happens with only a few light apps open and a few desktops).
It does not matter whether I am using more than one monitor, the glitch still occurs.
It does not happen due to a particular open application, as I have tested with nothing open at all straight after a restart.
Possible and tested causes
An application might be corrupting the glitchy app(s), since the disk breaks after being repaired in Safe Boot mode. Once the disk has been repaired, the glitch doesn't seem to occur until a few applications have been opened, though I haven't tested this much. (I am suspecting TheBrain, but not sure. Other potential culprits: Chrome, Mail, Firefox, Spotify, Skype, Dictionary, Activity Monitor, Finder).
It isn't the operating system itself because I have reinstalled it from Safe Boot mode, and yet the glitch persists.
The application(s) affected by the glitch may be corrupted, and need reinstalled - that is, if they weren't already by reinstalling the operating system (they are in the '/System/CoreServices' folder).
Not-so-possible:
I doubt it is a virus - it would be a pretty pointless glitch for one to cause.
I have Time Machine running most of the time, but I have no reason to believe that is the cause.
I am using a NEET mini display port to HDMI adapter for my second monitor (no idea how that could be causing the issue).
Help
Any ideas on what I could do to fix this?
And does anyone know how to reinstall Mission Control, Dock and Launchpad (I think they are all part of '/System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app')? This might be worth a try.
Specifications (just in case)
2010 Macbook Pro
2.8 GHz Intel i7
8 GB memory
500 GB HD (two thirds full)
Thanks for any help!One thing I'd like for you to try: Create a new user account. Log into the new account and see if the same problems persist.
Many times such crashes are the result of corrupted preference or cache files. The above will eliminate these in the user account but not at the system level. So, I suggest you use a utility such as Lion Cache Cleaner 6.0.11 or Purity 1.10 to clear out cache files at the system level. I've never used the latter software but I, personally, use the former one on my computers. -
I have a MacBook Pro running Yosemite.I did not shut down the computer last night. When I opened the computer this morning Dashboard in overlay was on the screen. I have not been able to get out of dashboard. I have tried esc, F12, and accessing System Preferences in the Dock. I clicked on Mission control and nothing changed. Help be get back to my desktop.
Did you try restarting the computer?
Delete com.apple.dashboard.plist file.
Quit all applications.
Option click the "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
Select "Library" from the drop down.
Library > Preferences > com.apple.dashboard.plist
Right click on it and select "Move it to Trash".
Restart.
If this doesn’t help, Put back the com.apple.dashboard.plist
Right click the Trash icon in the Dock and select “Open”.
Right click the com.apple.dashboard.plist and select “Put Back”.
