Mission control won't show windows properly.

Mission control (expose) won't show windows properly. It's really annoying when I'm working and need to see what I've got opened or switch between apps. Sometimes it'll display them correctly, other times it won't. See the 2 screenshots open 3 windows:
1st screenshot: http://cl.ly/image/0U0q1N3J0Z2f
- chrome browser
- finder
- messages
2nd screenshot:http://cl.ly/image/2F0T3o1z0e3Z
only icons of chrome and finder are shown, but no windows. No messages not even the icon.
I'd really love all the help you can provide.

My problem started when the update to 10.7.5 ran. Mission Control in the Dock continued to work as before the update.
In System Settings>Mouse, the side buttons on my Might Mouse had been changed to 'Expose - App Windows.' I  had to change the setting back to Mission Control.
Perhaps MtnLion suffered a similar glitch.

  • "Mission Control" does not show space row and I cannot add a new space (27 inch screen)

Firstly, "Mission Control" does not show upper row with spaces. I have configured Dashboard as space, but it is not showed either.
Second, I cannot add a new space because the upper right corner wont show an empty space.
In system I have configured (Mission Control) the upper right corner as "mission control".
    I do run a 27-inch screen

I'm having the exact same problem. I have a Macbook Pro that I connect to a 27inch iMac through the mini display port. Whenever I attempt to launch Mission control to move a program to a different space, the "Spaces" dont appear at the top of the screen. Is anyone have an answer for this?
Also, does anyone know of a 3rd party program to bring "Spaces" back? That was my #1 favorite thing of Snow Leopard, and I need to get that functionality back.
    Thanks

  • Video playback control won't show after upgrade to 3.1

    Hi,
I have a iPod Touch 2nd Generation. After upgrading from 2.2 to 3.1, when I tap the video during video playback, the playback control won't show. I have to tap it many many times in order for the playback control to show. Does anyone have the same problem? Does anyone know how to fix it? It is upsetting to pay for an upgrade that would break existing behavior.
    Thanks.

I have the same problem and the reset didn't fix it. In fact I went in to the store and the Apple Genius saw the issue and replaced my ipod with a rebuilt ipod that had ipod 2.x software. I upgraded it to 3.2 and once again the playback controls don't show up. Called support and they think it's a bug ... hoping for a fix.
    Any ideas?

  • Mission Control won't work after sleeping.  Upon Start up it's fine, but after sleeping it won't work by track pad or keyboard.

Since updating, Mission Control won't work after sleeping.  Upon Start up it's fine, but after sleeping it won't work by trackpad or keyboard. I'm sure I use Mission Control more than most, so it's really irritating for me.

No, the versions of iPhoto on the iPad and on OS X are totally different.
What Apple ID are you using for the Mac App Store? Who else has access to that Apple ID, or what possible other Apple IDs could be in use? It's possible you'll need to purchase iPhoto to get the upgrade, though I'd think Software Update should offer you the correct version.

  • Mission control and separation of windows

When going into mission control you can tell for example if you have 5 ms word windows but they are all stacked on top of each other. Can they be more organized like when you right click and hit show all windows?
Also when dragging in mission control can you achieve the same goal making the dragged window stay in that spot and not allow it to move back apart from putting it to a new desktop?
    Thanks.

I found what is causing the problem, and solved also the other problem I had with locking the screensaver in System Preferences
Very simple, now that I tried everything for days
I used a different password for my keychain
If  I use the same one for both my login and the keychain everything goes back in place
    and works!

  • IPhoto suddenly won't show windows anymore, help, anyone?

Since I've been using Lion I expierence all kinds of problems. I regret updating ever since.
For example, my internet connection keep turning of every couple of minutes (while all other divices at home stay connected). My solution is to turn my wifi off, wait a while and than turn it on again. It's really poor when one uses the best iMac there is. But I guess that's Lion. I got used to it.
    But my question:
iPhoto suddenly stopped working (at first it did work!). It does start, but it won't show any windows.
I've deleted the cache, restarted my iMac, no result.
It all began when I plugged in my iPhone.
Now I'm no longer able to backup my photo's anymore.
    Can anyone help?
I've also tried cicking the icon while pressing alt and cmd, for more options, but it doesn't work...
Hopefully one of you know the solution!
    Thx!
    A.

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Mission Control won't recall Space settings.

    Greetings.
I'm having issues with the OS remembering my Mission Control/Space settings.
I have certain apps assigned to specific desktops. For example, I keep Desktop 1 open for Finder windows, Desktop 2 for Adobe applications, and I have Mail assigned to Desktop 3. However, if my MBP lid is closed (i.e. sleep,) the machine is restarted or I unplug my external monitor, the OS doesn't recall which Space I've assigned applications to.
I've started from scratch a few times, removing all Desktops and recreating/re-assigning applications, but that didn't resolve the issue. I've yet to repair permissions, but I suppose that's next.
Thought I'd throw it out here and see if anyone had thoughts. Thanks!

No, this is what I did
I removed my preferences folder because of these issues
and I restarted, thinking the system was going to recreate a new preferences folder
and I would have find the problem was there and not for example in other folders in my User library.
When I rebooted , after logging in , the system did not ask for my keychain password
as I was used to since a long time and many systems ago..
I tried to see if I could lock and unlock my screensaver and it worked.
At this point I went back to put a different password in my keychain , as usual
and tried again after that, to lock and unlock the screen and I had the problem back again.
So I changed the password again , using the same I have for my login.
I put back all my old preferences but one( the finder prefs does recreate itself instantaneously) and restarted
Everything worked and I tried Spaces just to see if it had been fixed too and it was.
After that I tried to replicate the problem on a friend's new computer , which is brand new and without anything installed yet. The problems were there too.
    No more investigations for me
I hope it will fix your problems too

  • Mission Control won't a launch (except via Launchpad)

I updated this morning from SL to Mt Lion.  I wanted to set up Spaces (similar to what I had in SL) and I found that it's now done via Mission Control.  I've tried the various FKey ways (F3, F9) to launch Mission Control directly but the only way I could bring it up was to fire up Launchpad and then click the MC icon there -- or by assigning it to a hot-spot corner.
I've now set up my 8 Spaces so I guess I don't need to open Mission Control much and could probably live with bringing it up via Launchpad or the assigned hot spot.  But I'm curious about why it's not being invoked via the FKeys.  Any ideas?

    Try deleting the com.apple.systempreferences.plist.
You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist. Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist.  Move the .plist to your desktop.
Log out/in and test. If it works okay, delete the plist(s) from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plist(s) to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your User library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.4. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.
If it soved the problem, you will probably have to reset some of your Preferences.

  • HT4689 Can we make mission control not stack the windows of the same app?

I often have multiple Word windows open and it's very hard to find the one I need when they are stacked in Mission Control. I like the fact that with a four-finger swipe you can see all the open programs, but it's not quite useful if apps are stacked (so I can't find which is which), and minimized apps apps are not shown.
In comparison, MS Windows makes it easier to locate an open program although less fancy-looking.

    Hi keclear,
If you would prefer that Mission Control not stack the open windows for each application, you may want to turn off the "Group windows by application" setting. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Mission Control Dual Monitors moving windows between desktops

So far I like the new Mission Control however I am having what I beleive to be an issue.
I have a dual monitor setup and multiple Desktops configured. If I want to move a window from Primary Monitor Desktop 1 to Primary Monitor Desktop 2 it works but if I want to move a window from Primary Monitor Desktop 1 to Secondary Monitor Desktop 2 it will not let me. I have to do the move in two steps. First I have to move it to Primary Monitor Desktop 2 and then from there I can move it to Secondary Monitor Desktop 2 ?
Please can someone verify this ? Is this a limitation or a bug ?

Hehe, Linux+Compiz rulezzz. You can tweak it the way YOU need and not Apple think you should do 'cause they "just knows better what market needs"
My ideal setup on Linux workstation was: 2 Graphics Cards, 4 Monitors, 2 of them fixed, so I could put there applications and windows which should be permanently seen, for example -- Zenoss monitoring dashboard (screen 1) and stocks tickers (screen 2)
Screen 3 and 4 respectively were part of the Compiz Cube with Xinerama activated, e.g. one extra wide desktop across 2 monitors, seen as semi-transparent Cube during transitions between 4 virtual destops, so I could almost immediately see where all my windows are.
And now, Apple, could you tell me, If I've got Mac Pro with 2 Graphics Cards and 4 Monitors, is such a setup feasible with Mission Control?... OK, ok, you don't have such an eycandy as Transparent Compiz Cube, I could survive without, but having simultaneously 2 monitors as part of virtual desktop and 2 others fixed is absolut 'a must have', so, now's your turn... HOW?

  • Compressor doesn't open and show windows properly

Haven't used Compressor for a while and when I open it I don't get the windows, just the bar at the top. Choosing a windows layout doesn't work and although you can switch on the inspector, settings/destination and history windows I can't display the window that you drag the files, settings and destinations into. I've tried re-installing, no good. All other FCS programs work fine, before and after re-install, anyone know what's going on?

Tried all the above suggestions, just had to properly uninstall FCS with FCS Remover then re-install. Window display is fine now but I'm not sure if it's actually doing anything, submit a job but nothing seems to be produced ...looking into that.

  • Win 2008R2 terminal services, it won't show Windows 8.1 pro redirected printer

I have users that use a remote app on a Win2008R2 server. Redirected printers work fine on Windows 7, but I cannot get it to display the redirected printer attached to a Windows 8.1 client. I have installed the printer driver on the server as usual. It shows
on Windows 7, just not Windows 8. Ideas anyone?

    Hi,
Are you using RD Easy print service for your environment?
Check whether there is proper printer driver is installed. Please check the GPO setting whether the below policy is not enabled.
Computer Configuration> Administrative Templates> Windows Components> Remote Desktop Services>Remote Desktop Session Host
Do not allow client printer redirection:  It must set to
    Disable

  • Iphone 3.0 beta 2  won't show up properly in itunes

I recently installed the 3.0 beta 2 and something odd has happened. The phone shows up under iTunes's DEVICES sidebar when I plug the phone into the USB port, but nothing happens when I click on it in the sidebar. The iPhone item is highlighted but I don't get the familiar set of tabs that lets me get a summary, sync the phone and so on.
Is there a way to fix this problem so I can sync the phone once again to my itunes library. The phone is working properly but with none of my email, calendars, contacts or music.

I bought my son an IPod touch for x-mas. he let a friend use it who has an Iphone and his friend (somehow) upgraded it to 3.0. He lost all of his music and applications. When he connects it to my computer now it will not sync. I tried to restore it but we get an error messaage. Is there anyway to restore it back like it was?

  • My 5d Mark II won't show focus properly through the viewfinder but can with liveview?

I absentmindedly let my 5D Mark II jostle around a little today and now when looking through the viewfinder it's seemingly not focusing properly, yet when pressing the shutter button it shoots the photo in perfect focus as long as I focus it correctly in the first place. When I switch it to liveview mode, it also focuses fine. I'm also hearing a weird noise when it's shutting down, but this could just be placebo considering I haven't had it for all that long and just may have never heard the noise before. Could this be an issue with the viewfinder picking up the focused image, or the camera itself is having an issue?

When the camera performs it's self-cleaning it uses a piezoelectric effect to "vibrate" a filter located in front of the sensor (when you look at a "sensor" inside the camera you area really looking at a filter in front of the sensor... dirt and dust would actually be on the filter -- nothing is able to touch the sensor itself.)
Also... the focus screen on the 5D II is replaceable with optional focus screens.  The focus screen is a frosted screen which rests in a tray (a frame).  The back of the frame is hinged.  The front clips in to the top of the camera.
    See:  http://www.learn.usa.canon.com/app/pdfs/quickguides/CDLC_FocusingScreens_QuickGuide.pdf
This may have come loose and your focus screen may not be firmly closed (and this woudl change the focus distance ... resulting in your not being able to see a focused image when looking through the viewfinder and could even account for the rattling noise.)
It is very important that you NOT actually "touch" the focus screen trying to close it.  It is difficult to clean without damaging it and finger oils from touching would be a problem.  Also the cameras metering system is above the screen and smudges can affect the accuracy of the camera metering system.  For this reason, those optional focus screens actually come with a tool included to help you swap screens without ever needing to touch it.
Canon's tools works a bit like a pair of tweezers ... except with a hook on the end.  As you just need to verify that it's locked up in place, you can use something to push the tab up so that you don't have to do this with your fingers.  A popsicle stick, a chopstick, etc. would all work to "close" it, etc. but the tray has a tiny tab which normally needs to be gently pulled toward you to release and lower the screen... but usually just pushing upward (without pulling) will allow it to "snap" back into it's clip.
Here's a video demonstrating how the focus screen compartment is opened and closed.  You can check to make sure yours is closed.  This CPN video demonstrates using a 40D but the operation is identical on your 5D II.
