Mist behind screen

Hi there,
BIG probs! There is a layer of mist / moisture on the other side of my iMac 2011 screen. It hasn't covered the whole screen but enough to be eaily noticeable since that area is very blurred.
Has this happened to anyone else or is it because Hong Kong is too humid and not suitable for imac screens?
Any idea how to clean it off without opening up the iMac or do I have to take it in for repairs?
Cheers
L

Perhaps to know the relative humidity and temperature, so as to note
the indoor 'dew-point', where condensation forms inside the iMac,
may be a good thing; to use basic weather instruments that sit on a
desk or hang on a wall, could give you that much at little cost...
Then see if you can adjust these, practically, to suit the iMac.
To better identify the iMac precisely first, then look into a guide, an
idea of the glass panel & other internals, can be read about here:
•Intel-based iMac computer guides:
http://www.ifixit.com/Device/iMac_Intel
You state the iMac is a 2011 model, and according to iFixit.com guides
where they show two 'mid-2011' units, a 21.5-inch & 27-inch; if that
is the correct/exact model series, both have a glass panel in front of the
LCD, and it is removable. Identifying the computer model precisely helps.
IF your computer is a 27-inch, Mid-2011 EMC 2429 iMac, the guide would be:
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iMac+Intel+27-Inch+EMC+2429+Display+Replacement/7551
A 21.5-inch, Mid-2011 EMC 2428  iMac, the guide would be this one:
http://www.ifixit.com/Device/iMac_Intel_21.5%22_EMC_2428
These both show a process to take the glass panel that covers the LCD, off.
Later models have no separate protective glass panel, so would not be able
to be cleaned or disassembled in the way indicated by earlier methods.
And these are not designed for a home-user to do much in the way of service
or upgrade; the 21.5-inch model usually is more limited to upgrade than a 27"
{in that RAM is not user-upgradable; so one has a certified tech do that, too.}
I hope you can get adequate use of the iMac, without incident of humidity or
condensation issues. You could likely use the Apple Support page where you
can enter your product serial number into their page, to see which one it is.
Their records are a fair place to look, especially as a first-owner. For older and
pre-owned units, there are online 'identify by serial number or model' web sites.
Good luck & happy computing!

  • Dust behind screens.

I have dust behind screen for the second time, on both of my iMacs. First time it was just before expiration of warranty. Now, warranty is gone and I would need to pay several hundreds of EUR for replacement ? Any advise ?

If you still have the case numbers from your warranty, call Apple Customer Relations - 1-800-767-2275.  Ask politely & firmly that you want to be transferred to Customer Relations.  Tell them exactly what you stated in your post.  See what they can do for you.
    GOOD LUCK!
P.S.  Apple has a 90 day warranty on their repairs.  Are you pass that?

  • 24" iMac screen mist behind glass

For a couple of months now my 24" iMac screen keep misting up behind the glass around 30 mins after booting - anyone know a resolution for this? Will Apple replace the screen even though i've had it around 4/5 years now?

It is common to get condensation between the display and front glass panel, if it is humidity and cool in your office or home.
A few things that you might try, are
    1. Reduce the level humidity with a dehumidifier.
    2. Leave the iMac on longer until the condensation dissipates.
    3. Remove the front panel yourself and clean between the display and glass.

No, but if you contact your local Apple Store or AASP you can schedule an appointment to have it dried and cleaned.

  • Dv7 Laptop dust behind screen

Since I bought My laptop 11 months ago dust  has been gradually gathering behind the screen underneath the webcam.  Initially this was only noticable while the screen was off (black) so it did not bother me.  .  Recently a couple of pieces of white 'debris' appeared there, one of which is 2mm wide and really impairs use of the laptop.  It is big enough to obscure part of a character on the screen.
At this point I decided to contact HP to request it be fixed under warrenty. As I have seen from others on this site HP claim this is not covered under warrenty.   I am amazed. I can't believe HP will not fix this. They told me this was 'due to negligence'.  I only use the laptop at home in the evenings and keep it in a case while not being used. It has neve been out of the house.  It has not been dropped, wet, used in a dusty environment in the wind (all suggestions from HP's Tech Support. The only way to have stopped this happening would have been to not use it! I do not understand how dirt can get into a sealed unit.
This has to be a manufacturing fault. Furthermore after reading around I find more people with the exact same issue.  Some people have tried to clean this themselves, but have found the screen to be glued in.
Does anyone have any advice?  Would anyone from HP like to comment or actually help me?
I have followed HP complaints procedure but they refused to do anything.  When I said I would like to take it higher I was told there was no one higher to complain to and that their managers are 'not customer facing at all'
This is extremely poor service.  I paid £800 for this laptop and fully expected an obvious manufacturing fault to be rectified.

    I fixed it myself!
First I had some more discusstion with Comet where I bought the laptop.   They initially said they would look at it for £50 and charge me for any parts that were needed, but it was unlikely there would be any.  I pondered this for a while because I was under the impression the screen was glued in.  When I asked them about this they said they would replace the whole screen anyway and stated 'it would cost more than the laptop is worth'
    pathetic.
Rather than spend the money I decided to go it alone as I could not happily use the laptop as it was.  I dismantled it myself.  I removed the screen unit, dismantled the bezel and removed inverter, wireless antenna and webcam. Yes the screen is glued in and yes it is a nightmare to remove.  The clear plastic cover on the screen is glued to both the bezel and the lcd paneI. I cracked the bezel slightly getting it off, but once back together you can hardly see this.  I cleaned the screen before putting it together again and decided rather than glue the panel back in I would like to have the option of taking it apart again to clean it if I need to.  Once reassembled I used invisible tape to fix the clear plastic cover back over the lcd. It is hardly noticable and I can remove it anytime I like without dismantling the laptop again. My laptop is useable again with paying HP any more money!
So how did this occur?  Once I had removed the screen I could see the problem - There is a gap in the glue/seal above the webcam and there is a gap there so dust and small foreign objects can get in. This is a MANUFACTURING / DESIGN DEFECT.  HP must know this and refuse to admit it or to help unless you pay a ridiculous fee.  They rely on the small print in their warrenty to cover themselves. I have no faith in HP as a result of this. What polite words can I use to descibe them and the service I received?
    none.
If you have one of these laptops without this problem, then I recommend you cover the gap between the edge of the screen above the webcam and the bezel with a piece of tape so nothing can get in.

  • Dust behind screen on n96

my phone has been annoying me lately! the OS is fine, but there now seems to be a build up of dust behind my screen! its quite annoying in day light! im blowing my phone from all sides to see if it moves, but nothing, i sent it to the repairs center to get it sorted and to tighten my phone but they just sent it back with an update, ive emailed them to complain with no reply, so i guess i have to do it myself, the phone jus feels really loose when sliding or when its in the normal mode, is this common?
does any one have solutions to getting the dust removed?

It is thought that dust can get in via the ear piece.
May be get a CP-293 to slow the ingress down.

  • Moving bug behind screen.

Firstly, I am not making this up.
I just turned on my iMac to find a small bug climbing the screen. I cannot wipe it away as it is behind the glass. I cannot really tell what it is but it is about 4mm long and moves around from time to time, shaped like a tiny slug but leaves no slime trail.
The iMac is only a few weeks old and I have not had it apart so cannot understand how it got in there. More importantly, how should I get it out? I am reluctant to leave the iMac on in case the bug dies from the heat and is stuck there.

    Hello dewlean
The outer glass panel is held in place by a series of magnets around the edge. If your the handy type it can be removed for cleaning with a set of mini glass suction cups. If not it's best to take it to your Local Apple Store or Service Provider and let them clean and remove the critter.

  • Dead bug behind screen!

My ipod seems to have made a new friend! A small insect has somehow crawled into my ipod classic 160 (which has never been taken apart) and decided to die right in the middle of the screen. It seems quite stuck there and wont budge. I have even tried a burst from a compressed air laptop aerosol down the headphone socket but no luck.
I phoned up my local Apple store, the guy i spoke to was surprised, he said he thought this wouldn’t be covered by my warranty (I only got my ipod at xmas and the ipod works fine except for the insect!). In fact he suggested a third party repair which would of course void my warranty. I have made an appointment to take it in to the store so they can have a look first hand.
Has anyone had this happen to them before, if so what was Apples response? From reading on the net I have been let to believe the screen should be sealed to stop things getting behind it. I don’t want to try taking the ipod apart myself as from the guides posted on the net it looks very tricky to do and I suspect my ipod wouldn’t be the same again!

Its all good, I am just back from my local Apple shop with a shiney replacement ipod! Thanks Apple!

  • Actual debris behind screen

I have seen a lot of topics talking about bruising and black pixel-like marks on the LCD, but I don't have any of these. I have actual fuzz-like debris behind my screen. Most of it looks like dust and even little pieces of lint. It is getting worse over time despite my efforts to keep the computer as dust free as possible. It is starting to affect how things look on the screen, especially documents - anything I write in Word is fuzzy! Any thoughts??

I have this same problem with a MacBook Pro 17 (just out of warranty). I have seen others who have the same problem in other forums. But I have found no good solution. I cant even determine if there is a way to clean it - or it the LCD must be replaced. Not sure if the removing the bezel will allow cleaning or if its integrated with the LCD.

  • Particles behind screen

I have all manner of spots behind my display. It appears to be dust and other debris (you can literally see what looks like short squiggly strings with some of the areas). There are probably 50 - 60 different spots (some look like the screen is just dirty and flecked with dust but it is behind the display).
Anyone else have this problem? Is the fix a new display (mine's the 15"). The unit is almost 2 years old.
When connected to an external display, the spots are NOT visible.

With some disassembly you should be able to remove the debris (or pay someone to do it). I had this problem with my Dell laptop not too long ago. I disassembled the screen section and there was a transparent glass part that the actual LCD was mounted behind. The dust was caught between these two parts. After cleaning this over screen and reassembling, it was restored to its former glory. Hopefully the mbp is built similar to this and the dust is not actually inside the LED assembly.

  • Dust trapped behind screen.

I've had my computer for a few days.. and I love it, but I suddenly became very annoyed after discovering a speck of dust stuck behind my screen! It is minute and I'm sure some of you will find this petty, but to me, this is incredibly irritating as I always seem to focus on it! It was right at the bottom originally, and i tried to blow it out, but that only made it move up about a couple of centimetres, this is how I know it's not a dead/stuck pixel. I expect I'll be told that the only way of ridding it is to take the G5 apart.. is this the case? Or is there another solution? I've tried gently rubbing the area (as I read in another post) in hope that it might become loose and fall down, but this did not succeed. Any help would be greatly appreciated... Thank you.

This is an odd problem indeed. Are you sure that the dust is actually BEHIND the display? I would think that it would be pretty difficult to get it back there hehe.
The dust could actually be embedded in your display's protective screen coating (all LCDs have this to protect the otherwise exposed pixels). If it was embedded in the coating, then you have most likely made the problem worse by rubbing it with your finger, as this would have embedded the dust in further.
Either way, I would call AppleCare and see if you can arrange to have it inspected.

  • Small hair/dead pixel behind screen 10 weeks old MBP

    Hello,
I have a 10 weeks old MBP and now I was browsing the web when I noticed a very small hair behind my screen
it's aprox 2-3 mm in length but it really annoys me because of 2 facts
It's in the centre of my screen
My MBP is 10 weeks old!
However it also could be a line of dead pixels.
I already read some threads about this and most of them say that I have to go to the Apple store,
but I live in Belgium? I don't know if the service is the same as in the US?
    thanks!

    Hello Michiel0lb,
No, I'm sorry but I can't be that positive.  I don't use MBP, I have never seen their guarantee and the interpretation of a fault has to be with the examiner ... in your case, Switch.    That said, if the fault is visible any decent company would want to see you satisfied whether it means cleaning, replacing the screen or the whole MB for that matter.   10 weeks is not a long time and Apple is a decent company.
I can (just) make the fault out though I'm sure it is more visible in reality.   Be sure to approach Switch in person and phone first to confirm they are able to handle a warranty matter.   Re-sellers often have facilities to repair on the premises or they will send the machine back to an Apple base if the matter is serious.    But if asked when you phone, don't say any more than your screen has developed unusual marks that could be faulty pixels.    For your own satisfaction you must ensure it is examined.
Post back with your findings ... and good luck,

  • Bugs/flies behind screen

    Hi,
I have about a dozen dead corn fly things behind my screen. I've had the glass off and cleaned both the glass and the screen, but to no avail...the bugs are behind the screen itself!!!!
I can't get them off...no amount of flicking will budge them.
Does anybody have any suggestions about how to get at them...they're driving me mad!
    Thanks :-)

This problem is too common, only have to reset PRAM and the SMC, in Apple Support Pages there is the guide to do this.
