MIT Kerberos integration via Oracle ASO for Instant Client

Is Oracle planning on adding support for the Oracle ASO module (specifically for the use of MIT Kerberos authentication) to the Oracle Instant Client?
Last time I checked (about 2 years ago) they had not, but I'm hoping they are working on it.
Update: I originally posted this back in Feb 2007, and now it's June 2007...... No replies..... Does anyone know if Oracle will add support for MIT Kerberos Authentication to the Instant Client?

I haven't seen many requests of ASO support being requested for Instant Client nor have I heard of it being included any time soon (in any Instant Client-related press). You should pose the question to Oracle support or your Oracle sales representative.

  • Connectionstring to be used in ASP for instant client ??

    Hi,
I'm trying to use oracle instant client for one of my projects.
I have installed basic, sqlplus and ODBC for instant client.
I have set all the environment variables. I have the tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora
So far I have succeeded in connecting to a DB Server through sqlplus. I also created a DSN successfully using the driver "Oracle in instantclient10_2" which gets installed when I install instant client ODBC. These indicate that mos tof settings are right. It is good so far.
Now I'm trying to use a connection string in ASP which connects to a DB server using this instant client.
I need one DSN connection string and one DSN-less connection string.
So far I have tried the following:-
    1)
    Driver={Oracle in instantclient10_2};Server=<Service Name>;Uid=<UserID>;Pwd=<Password>;
    This resulted in the error:-
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
    [Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
    2)
    StrCon.Open "Driver={Oracle in instantclient10_2};Dbq=<Server IP address>:<port>/<serviceName>", "UserID", "Password"
    This resulted in the error:-
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
Can you please help me out with these?
    Thanks in advance
    Jai

    Hello,
I tried to use either of the 2 connections you gave but I still get an error:
    DSN
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
Specified driver could not be loaded due to system error 5 (Oracle in instantclient10_2).
    DSN-less Connectionstring:
Specified driver could not be loaded due to system error 5 (Oracle in instantclient10_2).
    Thanks in advance,
Do you have an idea as why this happens?

  • SDK for Instant Client not available?

    Hello all,
I'm new to using Oracle and I successfully setup my first 11XE install last week. I'm excited to begin using it but I can't get the OCI driver to compile so I can use it in PHP.
I have the linux/amd64 Instant Client 10.1 from the Oracle website but it does not have the headers file.
The docs say I need SDK for Instant Client but it is not listed on the downloads page for Instant Client. The docs also say there is a 11.1 version of IC but no trace of that either.
Is there another page which has all of these files?
I get as far as this in the configure script: "checking for oci.h... configure: error: I'm too dumb to figure out where the include dir is in your instant client install"
    Thanks for your help!

You could search the 'net for instant client downloads x86-64, click relevant link, search page for SDK. Versions from 11.2, 11.1 and 10.2 releases should exist on found page.

  • ODBC Driver for Instant Client

    Hello.
First of all I would like to thank Oracle for giving us the Instant Client. It seems to be the solution for making stand-alone client application in a very simple way. Thanks!
Even Though, I need to know if there is a way to download the so called "ODBC Supplement". I suppose it's a Windows ODBC Driver for Instant Client.
    Thanks!

Here's a Registry script to set up a sample 10g-driver data source. After this I used MS Access 2002 to connect to a 9i database. It found all the table names, etc, and read fine from some of them, but others came back with some kind of error such that Access reported the row as already Deleted. I have not done any more research, yet.

As for the ODBC admin program, I used RegMon and FileMon to watch it in action. It loads the 10g setup DLL okay and reads various ODBC values from the registry, then GPF's. I think I'm seeing some kind of buffer overrun problem. I can send logs to anybody who gives me an e-mail address. Mine is [email protected]

  • Missing sdk download for instant client for Linux

    Hi,
I'm following Ubuntu community documentation here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PHPOracle to get started developing php/oracle applications.
My problem is that the sdk download is missing. It is in the list here http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/instant-client/index-100365.html but the link for it is missing. I don't see anything else looking like sdk or development files for instant client.
Can anyone tell me where the download is?
    Thank you

Am I missing some set up.
Can anybody help please...I have been trying since last 3 days.
    Thanks

    Hi Laurenz,
Sorry to say...but it still does not connect(incorporated your suggestions), nor is the trace generated. sqlnet.log looks no different. As about any other oracle clients...I did not have any until yesterday evening when we installed the entire 10g oracle...client and database.
Anyways now too after having installed oracle 10g on D drive, no succes in connecting to remote databse.
    Two questions:
    1. Is XE client compatible with 10g database? As I am trying to connect to 9.2 version as mentioned in my initial query.
    2. When I ping the host I do get reply. BUT when I telnet i.e.
    telnet host port
....it says "could not open connection to the host, on port XXX: connect failed"
Does it mean there is a firewall at the remote end which is preventing the successfull connection? But then how do I connect thru' Perl with no extra info...
Any other suggestion please let me know...and also do you suggest I uninstall all oracle clients other than XE...or is there any way out ...having multiple clients?
Another query...hope I can use toad after having set up the XE client?
    Thanks in advance...

  • SQL*Plus add-on for Instant Client Package on Solaris-SPARC 32bits ???

    Hi,
I need sqlplus for a solaris 32bits platform, but following this page
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/oci/instantclient/instantclient.html, if I choose Solaris 32-bit (SPARC), it doesn't give a link to download Instant Client Package - SQL*Plus (as it does if I choose Solaris 64-bit (SPARC) or Windows 32-bit).
    I don't understand why... :(

SQL*Plus is not supported on the 32-bit versions of 64-bit platforms. Please use the 64-bit version of SQL*Plus. Thanks!

  • BR*Tools 7.x, Oracle 10.x, instant client 10.x and Kernel 6.4

    All,
Please keep in mind I am running Kernel 6.4
When upgrading a 9.2 database to 10.2, the documentation indicates you should upgrade BR*Tools to 7 and the instant client to 10.
Can I have the following configuration running and working:
    Oracle 10.2.0.4
    BR*Tools 7
    InstantClient 10.2
    Kernel 6.4
    I ask - b/c I don't believe the 10.2 instant client supports the 6.40 Kernel - but I could be wrong (and I hope that I am).
Any help on this is appreciated.

  • Automation scripts for Instant client install\ add TNS entry

    Guys,
I'm trying to develop an VB application, which uses data from an Oracle server residing in my neighbour's system.
My system doesn't have oracle client installed.
So, I've made use of Oracle Instant Client package-OCBC.
Now, I'm looking for an automation script that would do the following in order
1)Uzip the instant client into a directory. (say C:\ondemand\instantclient)
2)Add this directory into the PATH environment variable
3)Set up Service Names with tnsnames.ora ie. Create a TNSNAMES.ORA file to configure my Oracle instance connection.
4)Set the TNS_ADMIN environment variable to be the path to the tnsnames.ora
Can someone help me out with automated scripts?
    Thanks,
    Bhagat

    Don't worry. I've solved it.
One of the files I was using stated: Always set the TNS_ADMIN environment variable or registry setting to the full path of the tnsnames.ora file.
I took that to mean including the "tnsnames.ora". It doesn't. It really does mean just the PATH part.
However, with this corrected, I got the pulldown populated. But with only the first part of the name, from the tnsnames.ora file. tnsnames.ora had mydb.<domain>.com. The pulldown only had mydb. Manually adding the .<domain>.com to it worked.
Now on to the next problem. <GRIN>
    Cheers,
    Eddie

  • USername and password for Instant Client

    Hi,
Im trying to install the instant client on my desktop for an SQL plus remote server. When I run sqlplus.exe it asks me for a username and password.. where do I get that from?

That would be the user name and password for the database you are trying to connect to. The DBA may be in charge of creating accounts and handing out passwords-- if not, he should know who is.

  • Please help me to debug a bug for instant client on linux x86-64

I am a c junior programmer, I wrote a c demo based on <Call Interface Programmer's Guide>,but i found failed sometimes and successful somtimes when i run my demo on linux x86-64.
I wondered why it was failed sometimes and successful sometimes, so i used command strace to debug my demo.
I found my demo was failed when called function getsockopt  whose third argument was negative. The following code:
    getsockopt  (5, SOL_SOCKET, SO_SNDBUF, [-8683868481690533888], [4]) = 0
my demo run successful when the third argument of function getsockopt was positive. The following code:
    getsockopt(5, SOL_SOCKET, SO_SNDBUF, [4636081913715490816], [4]) = 0
I downloaded rpm package of instant client for linux x86-32 and installed, the same demo worked perfectly on linux x86-32.
Did instant client for linux x86-64 has a bug?
    any advise would be great.
    Thank you!

    thanks.
I have solved this problem that result in my c demo.

  • Google Apps User Provisioning - Anyone integrating via Oracle? ... I am

Currently I am developing against the Google Apps - User Provisioning 2.0 API and have developed most of the API functionality in a pl/sql package (all of the methods in the API document are implemented and tested except the "retrieval" actions: user [add, edit, delete], nickname [add, delete], email list [add, delete], and email list subscriber [add, delete]).

  • How do you use an external MIT Kerberos realm for authentication in 10.4?

Does anyone have experience with OS X Server 10.4.x Open Directory and using a "third-party" KDCs for authentication?
I have four 10.4.5 XServes that form a SAN (Xsan). I am using a common Open Directory domain that consists of about 100 users to manage access to the SAN file space. I have one of the servers set up as OD master and a second as a failover.
My university has a kerberos realm that includes all university staff and students. I would like to use that KDC for authentication, not create my own KDC on the OD Master.
The SAN is only being used to support network file services, not as work stations. The users are going to mount file space on their local machines through AFP, Samba, or via ssh at the command line.
All of the users' short names are identical to their principle names in the University kerberos realm.
All of the Apple documentation assumes that in the OD Master will be the KDC for the OD, and part of the setup involves starting up the Kerberos KDC on the OD master system. There is mention of using any MIT Kerberos KDC, but I cannot for the life of me find where that is documented.
I have tried using the Server Admin interface and the "Join Kerberos . . . " tool, but when I enter the principle and password, the realm name and the DNS of the KDC it always fails with "error creating the keytab file."
I have also tried just putting a valid edu.mit.kerberos file /Library/ Preferences and creating a keytab file in the realm I want to join, and putting that at /etc/krb5.keytab in each of the servers in OD domain, but that doesn't seem to work, either.
Has anyone else been successful doing this with OS X Server 10.4.x?

    Leland,
Thanks for your suggestions. I need a little more
guidance though. Can you explain how to do step one?
    1) on your OD Master, using workgroup manager edit
the KerberosClient record and add the correct kdc
    info to the XMLPlist attribute.
Is this done on the "Inspector" tab of the Work Group
manager for the user record for the principle that is
in the KDC? Exactly which key value pair do I need to
    edit?
No, use the "Inspector" tab to look at config records, you will find the KerberosClient & KerberosKDC records in that list.
Select the XMLPlist attribute and edit it.
Look for the realms dictionary and either replace the existing entry with the correct realm info or add a new entry for the realm.
    The important keys are KADM_List & KDC_List.
You should also look at the domain_realm dictionary and make sure that
    also has the correct info.
Look at the kerberos admin guide at
    <http://web.mit.edu/kerberos/www/krb5-1.4/krb5-1.4.3/doc/krb5-admin/krb5.conf.ht ml#krb5.conf>
for an idea of what the sections mean.
    2) from the command line on a server run (as
    root):
    sso_util configure -r FOO.EDU -a kdcadmin -p
    kdcadmin_pw -v 4 all
I would do this on each server in the OD, correct?
yes, this step creates the service principals for the servers in the kdc, exports the info to the local keytab, and configures the services to use kerberos (so that they know their service principals)
you might need to modify the
    AuthenticationAuthority
entry for each user to point at the proper realm.
Is this also done in the "Inspector" tab for each
user's record in Work Group Manager?
    yes
    Thanks again for the suggestions.
Glad to be able to help

To Oracle please upgrade INSTANT Client 11g and/or 12c (future) and include two additional utilities I always use SQLLDR and WRAP. Currently I have to open a Linux VM to wrap and use SQL*Loader. I would prefer to do it all in the terminal window.

  • Obtaining an ODBC link to an Oracle 9.2 database via Instant Client

    Hi
Justin Cave, on one of your other forums, has been assisting but as of yet we have not suceeded. He suggested that this forum may be of help.
We are trying to find a way of linking a Microsoft Access database to an Oracle 9.2 database but as of yet have not suceeded can you please help?
The database server we are trying to connect to has a full installation of Oracle 9.2. We have a limited number of workstations that have a fully licensed Oracle client installation (required to use our PDM system). On these workstations we can successfully configure an ODBC connection to the Oracle database on the server and link tables in MS Access. However the majority of our PCs do not have any Oracle client installed, nor do we have any further Oracle client licenses to install with (we do have the installation media for both the server and client software).
We have attempted to use Orcale Instant Client (and ODBC addon) believing that we do not need licenses for this, at both the latest version 11.1.0.70 and at the earliest version we could find 10.1.0.5 but neither was successful in making an ODBC connection to the Oracle 9.2 database. Is this because we are using the wrong version of the Instant Client or is it just because we cannot configure it correctly? Are we correct in believing that we do not need to purchase licenses for Instant Client?
If we are way off the mark, what can you suggest?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Kevin (and co)

    Hi Laurenz,
Firstly, thank you for your prompt response.
Secondly, in answer to some of your questions:
    1. How did you install Instant Client? By extracting the downloaded package to a directory on the local HDD (C:) maintaining the subfolder structure.
    2. What environment variables did you set? We set TNS_ADMIN using the System Properties Dialog (Environment Variables) to be the folder where Instant Client was installed to (extracted to) i.e. C:\InstantClient_11_1. We also amended the PATH to include this folder using a command prompt and typing PATH=%PATH%;C:\InstantClient_11_1. This works but only until the next reboot when the PATH reverts to the previous value.
    3. Did you run the odbc_install script to install the ODBC driver? Yes, we extracted the ODBC add-on into the same folder and ran the ODBC_install.exe script successfully.
    4. Does the driver show up in the list of drivers on your system? Yes.
    5. Do you get any error messages? When we use v11.1.0.70 and hit the test connection button within ODBC admin, we get a noticiable delay followed by 'Unable to connect... TNS could not resolve the connect identifier'. When we use v10.1.0.5 we cannot even complete the System DSN ODBC configuration.
Our next questions are as follows:
    1. Is the TNS_ADMIN environment variable case sensitive and should it have a \ after the folder name?
    2. How do we amend the PATH permanently, so it does not revert following reboot?
    3. What part does tnsnames.ora play in the configuration. This file currently resides deep within the folder structure on the database server. Should we be copying it to the local C: and placing it in the same folder as Instant Client?
Once again, many thanks for your help.
    Yours,
    Kevin (and co)
