Mix Down the audio just prior to exporting.

What does it mean to "mix Down the audio". I have seen that several times. I have tried to look it up but can't find that phrase.

Playing or Printing to Video back after mixing down requires less CPU power for audio; then CPU has more time for video ...

Yes... but I have come across some setups that came with a native SL (and even one Lion!) installation.. that somehow had a corrupted or older Prokit installed for some unknown reason... and given it's a quick fix to try.. I thought I'd mention it..
I frankly don't think it is entirely a Prokit issue itself, but it wouldn't do any harm to try and install v7 just in case it is part of the problem...
+1 on the UAD stuff....
Also, at the time it crashed... according to the logs...the OP was running Ableton Live at the same time, presumably rewired with Logic... so add all that together with UAD plugins... and that's quite a load on the system...
Finally in thread 32 there is a weird exception msg relating to the Trash2 plugin.. that I haven't seen before...

Why when mixing down video, audio gets panned to left?

I don't know why it happens. I've checked and it's not panned at all before the mix down/render. Any help?

I think it figured it out. If you're doing a stereo project but have the project set to Surround it will mix down with an odd pan to the left. Just an FYI.
I fixed the project properties and now it mixed down with no pan.

HT3775 I just got a dash cam for my car, the format is H.264, all the files end in .AVI, when I try to open them I only get audio no video. I don't need the audio, just want the video. The message I get says I need a codec to see the video. What missing f

I can't open my AVI files and see video, I only hear the audio with a black screen. My format for my dash cam is H.264. When I try and open my files the messeage I get is
The document “DR153659.AVI” could not be opened. A required codec isn't available.

It's most likely in VLC or Perian, but may not exist for Mac OS X.

Audio And Visual Mix Down? (not export)

I was just wondering if a user can MIX DOWN the audio and video without exportng the video and reloading it back into the project...
Also if anyone can tell me if the scale rulers are of any use besides using them as a marker, for instance maybe controlling playback within a certain range??? Forgive my loose terminology.

When you say mix-down, to you mean raising the volume level in some places and lowering it in others? That's done using audio keyframes.
Audio keyframing can be done right on the timeline. Just select a clip and position the CTI playhead over it, then click the Make Keyframe button on the track header, to the left of the audio track. This will create a keyframe point at the position of the CTI. Raising this point will increase the volume and lowering it will decrease it. You can create and position as many keyframes as you need to mix your audio tracks.
As for your playback issue, you can isolate which area you edit, render or output by placing the Work Area Bar (the light colored gray bar that runs along the ticker on the timeline) so that it only covers a portion of your project.

I've upgraded to OS 10.8.2 and my Bowers and Wilkins MM-1 Speakers were working fine until today, and now they won't play any sound at all, even though iTunes shows the audio is playing. I've tried both the headphone jack and the USB port. Please help!

Thanks. I haven't mixed down the audio or checked the number of tracks in Prefs. Good points.
As far as a mixdown goes, I'll definitely give it a try, though I wonder whether or not the tracks will be recognized during mix down recording - given that you can't hear either of those segments in playback. Just have to try.
Re the preferred number of allowed tracks - I'll go check as soon as I send this off, but I'm not sure that applies in this case, since the two Channels containing the segments that are pinked out are not in additional tracks. I should have mentioned that other audio clips and segments on the same Channels in the SAME tracks ARE heard in playback. As are two additional track in the 2nd Sequence. It's only when the two sequences are joined that the pink tinted segments can't be heard. Within the sequence the same audio cuts playback as they should. Thanks again &

I can't hear the narration track over the audio, what do I do? And where is the "audio mixer"?

Just downloaded Premiere Elements 12 and lost my favorite audio music (wish I could bring it over from 11 somehow), so I drug a new clip in the audio track and now I can't hear my narration track. Also, can you pull up projects made in 11 with Premiere 12? Should I delete 11 off my computer? Also, where is the audio mixer?

The Audio Mixer is under the Tools menu in Expert view or under the Tools drop-down menu at the top of the interface.

Final Cut Pro X export troubles: exports video with only half the audio.

Ever since I updated Final Cut Pro X, I've been having problems exporting. I either get error messages or the audio doesn't fully export. When I tried exporting a master file to my desktop, I got a message saying “error occurred when creating frame” then lists the frame number. Someone suggested copying the project file and pasting it into a new project. I did that, and it exported without the error popping up; but halfway through the video, the audio disappears, and does so in the same spot it disappeared in a previous youtube export before I tried the copy/paste method. I don't have the original footage; I'm making color correction changes to an edit; so I'm not sure if the second half of the video is somehow corrupted, don't know how to check that, and not sure what to do if it is.
Another suggestion given to me was to delete the event my footage is in, then create a new event, re-upload all the footage into that one, and relink my project files to it. He also said don't delete my event and project folder at the same time, which I'm not even sure how you simultaneously delete two things on a laptop. I don't understand how this method would work though, since deleting the event makes my project disappear since it has nothing to link to. I'm scared to try this method since I don't want to lose my work; I really don't want to color correct it all over again.
Is there any way to successfully export the file suitable for youtube posting, or is this a bug in the system they haven't fixed yet?

I'm not certain what you mean for specs in a specific point in the video, but here are the specs for the entire edit I initially received:

2 Audio Channels

Here are the specs for the exported video that has the audio issue:
Dimensions: 1920 X 1080

Size: 966,817,082 bytes (966.8 MB on disk)
The video is 10:28 minutes long and the audio leaves at 5:57.
If that wasn't what you were looking for, just let me know. I'm not very good with technical stuff sometimes so may have misunderstood.

Why does FCP keeping mixing down audio

I'm working on a school play that we shot with 2 cameras. I edited it with the multiclip feature.
Only problem is when I'm trying to lay down the final sequence, it won't let me lay down 4 tracks of audio.
when creating the muticlip I added the other 2 tracks of audio from the other camera--so there are 4 tracks displayed.
Now when i load them in the Viewer and try to overwrite in a new sequence in only give me 2 tracks of audio-I need all 4 tracks to do the audio mix.
Why won't FCP let me lay down the audio, I've made sure the tracks are connected. I'm an avid editor learning FCP as i go.
I checked the archives but could not find anything useful.
This would seem like a rather easy task.

did a 2 camera shoot for a play. There is audio on both channels of each camera for a total of 4 channels of audio.
I made my multiclips by syncing the audio from both cameras and creating inpoints.
Than i layed those multiclips into a seq. so I can edit it.
When i did this, you can only lay down audio from one camera into the muliclip sequence. So I added the other 2 channels of audio from the multiclip on A3 and A4.
So after the edit, I know have all my cuts in the video timeline and 4 audio tracks in the timeline.
I have 4 sequences like this b/c we had tape changes during the performance.
I now want to take those 4 sequences and create one final sequence(called Master) that has the edited multiclips with all 4 channels of audio but when I load the act 1 sequence in the viewer and try to lay it down in the (master) it only drops down 2 audio tracks...not the 4 that i see in the act 1 sequence.

How do you edit the audio files in the slideshow of my idvd project?

I have created a project in idvd and I dragged and dropped in the music files from the audio tab that I wanted - I selected multiple songs (2) and I hear them play just fine. The problem is that I want one song to play for a certain section of the photos and then I want the other song to start at a particular point. Why am I not able to edit the music in the slideshow and how can I do that?

iMovie is a good way to do this if your project is film based. If your using photos (slideshow) in iDVD, I would be inclinded to use GarageBand to edit the audio portion of your project (It may be just me, but whenever I've attempted to create a slideshow in iMovie, the photos look "grainy" to me, not as clear).
If you know the time of when you want your songs to change, you can adjust the length (time) of each song in GarageBand as well as fade in/fade out transition of the two or more songs. After saving, you then can access the saved audio mix via the audio tab in iDVD. (I'm making an assumption that one might be familiar enough with GarageBand to do this
