Mix settop box and direct connection to tv

I have just this week had FIOS installed with 1 digital lcd tv plus hd settop box. I expect to add another tv in the near future buy had thought that I might simply connect the coax directly to the new digital ready tv without a box to receive just the unencrypted channels. But, with the current setup I bypassed the settop box and connected the coax cable directly to my current tv (which has both digital & analog tuners & can receiver over-the-air channels well from rabbit ears). To my surprise (& disappointment) the tv set does not receive any signal.
Is this what happens when your service includes a settop box? Is it really so that you cannot have one set connected via a verizon box and another directly connected? Or am I do something stupid and missing some simple step?
Any/all comments/suggestons welcome.

OK, thanks. But the set (vizio sv470xvt) has a qam tuner builtin Also analog (ntsc?) and atsc. The literature with it says it can receive cable channels without a box; it is not cablecard ready so presumably that's not an issue. I've searched on the web and all sites I've found with info confirm that. There is another thread (started earlier than this one, but I did't see it until later) in which many people say that they've had real problems with getting the unencrypted cahnnels; it appears that Verizon moves them around?!
I've tried several times both using the search menu and manually entering some (although not a lot) of some channels. The highest channel number allowed is 135; could that be a problem?
I_Am_The_Stig: your message came in after I started this but my set has options to search for analog/digital or either alone (I've tried both combined & digital only) but nor a 'cable'setting. Since the literature with the set claims it can receive cable signals I would assume it searches with all tuners. But still I don't get any channels found.

What's the difference between Apple TV and direct-connecting an iPad?

I'm thinking about getting Apple TV - but what does Apple TV give me that my iPad doesn't? I've got an Apple cable that connects my iPad to my big screen already. What do I gain by getting Apple TV instead? Please advise - thanks!

Thanks! Yea, I'm leaning that way and from everything I've read the 'biggest' benefit would be Airplay - and the 5:1 surround in my gameroom (or the 7:1 surround in my screening room). I don't stream movies - I'm more of a blu ray collector and watch movies that way - so in all probability I wouldn't use Apple TV in the screening room - but there are several other locations where it could be a nice addition.
I do watch some TV shows on my iPAD, and lots of music videos - so perhaps, with Airplay they'll look/sound even better if I push that content to one of the other big screens.
For the most part - whenever I wanted to watch something from my iPad on the big screen, I just connected it to my A/V receiver - pressed play, and enjoyed. Apple TV would now become that device that's connected to my A/V receiver, and the iPad more of a remote - uncabled.

BI to BPC 7.0 MS version data integration and direct connectivity?

Dear All,
I need some valubale and proper information about the BI to BPC 7.0 (Microsoft)integration?
As i have already gone through forum threads and read blogs stil i dint found any solution to our requrirement.
Is it possible to have a direct data transfer between BI to BPC 7.0(MS version)? I understand that data can be extracted from BI cubes into files and then uplod into BPC. Is there any other ways to bring data directly from BI into BPC 7.0?
Any connectors or plugins has been release in the market so far?
As per our understanding right now in the market for BPC 7.0(NW Version) everything is available but for BPC 7.0 microsoft version if any body as implemented or having any docs or related to that will be great helpful if you can share the same to me.?
IF its not aviailable in the market what could be alternative option to go ahead with the same version?

There is nothing delivered within the products that seemlessly integrates data from BI to BPC (MS ver). Besides the aforementioned good ideas about using open hub there are several 3rd Party companies that have an offering that will integrate data from SSIS packages on MS SQL Server from BI. Just search the internet (Xtract IS, iNet-BI, . . .). They all range in price and functionality.

No, because Operations manager MPs have discoveries of objects and monitors to calculate state and groups that need to be calculated by a management server.... all things that today OpInsights doesn't do, as OpInsights is not SCOM.
But you can collect your logs from those workloads and run your own intelligence (in the form of searches) against them i.e.

IIS Management Pack Event-Alerting Rules’s OpInsights Searches Equivalents
The two approaches are not opposed, but complementary: SCOM is not meant to keep a very big data volume in the on-premises databases, and a lot of its alerting and intelligence that happens down at the AGENT level. This is performant, but lacks correlation
capabilities, since you can easily get duplicate alerts from multiple agents.
In Operational Insights we look at volumes of data to aid with rich troubleshooting scenarios, investigations and deep dives (often following up from a SCOM alert) allowing to span across all that data.

Connecting uverse and direct tv

I was told that if I connected an hdmi cable to my Internet box and direct tv box I could get more free channels but there is no hdmi port on the uverse box. Was I told wrong or require something else?

Changing a WD External HD from Time Capsule Disk to Direct Connection

I was using a WD 1T hard drive connected to my Time Capsule USB port. It was set up as Allow file sharing with Time Capsule password. I would like to stop using it here and directly connect it to my Macbook Pro (by firewire). When I try to do this, I can see the drive but get a message that I do not have user permissions to access it. Is there a way around this? Do I need to reformat the WD drive in Disk Utility to be able to use it directly again?

Note: Mac 3 had a single user on it, my son. He was the admin. I created a new non-admin acct and moved all his stuff there (Not sure I did it the right way so it took a long time.). Now I am admin on that Mac. Not sure if that is relevant here (leading to the problem identified above) but thought I would mention it.

The fact that you cannot access the backup now only on this Mac does suggest this is part of the issue. Did you do this before or after the issue with access?
Permissions can be pretty tricky things.. certainly to do backups or to retrieve them from an existing backup created with different user permissions might be a mess.. Pondini is perhaps the only one who can tell you the ins and outs of that.
On the more general note.. lots of people are having issues with USB drive on the TC from Lion.. for many it stops working forever the moment the disk spins down from a reboot.. making it useless.
But it is dog slow for everyone.. The reality is USB is less than half its native speed on the TC cf on the computer.. and it wasn't that fast to begin with.
Plug the hard drive directly into the computer and mount the sparsebundle and see if the TM then can access it.. but you might need to use your admin login not your son's.
Personally if the TC disk is not big enough.. replace the TC with a larger disk version.. or the disk in the present one.. do not use disks hanging off TC. It has enough reliability issues without adding to them.

That machine did not ship with Mountain Lion (Mac OS X 10.8), so that means the copy of Mountain Lion on the machine was purchased by the former owner and is non-transferable. It is permanently linked to his/her Apple ID, so you cannot update or reinstall it.
What you need to do (which the seller should have done for you) is reinstall the original system that that machine came with. I believe that would be Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6). What you need to do is reinstall that system from the original disks. If the seller did not provide those disks, you can call Apple and get them replaced for a small shipping and handling fee.

I tried what you said again but without success. I even updated the driver so that that audio driver is the same as the graphics driver i.e.. NVIDIA but this has not helped either:

Just updated from 10.6.7 ---> 10.6.8 and had the same issue. Despite having done a clean install from 10.6 and got everything back off my TC, now Time Machine can't find it!
Green light is on, ethernet cable conected, network CP says its conected but nothing. Airport Utility can't find it. Hit reset button, Orange flashing light but still no show in Airport Utility.
But I know its there, as rebooting from 10.6 SL disk shows the backups are still ok?

No, unless you are using a home theatre system already, your only option is to connect to the TV.

BT wired / wireless connections - You View box and...

We have connected the BT Home Hub 4 to the You View box (using the 10 metre ethernet cable as a temporary measure until the electrician moves the power socket and we can use the powerline adaptors instead). We are using an HDMI cable to connect the You View box to the Panasonic Viera Smart TV.
When the You View box is recording two other programmes, to watch something via the internet on the smart tv, we would previously have used a wireless signal to the tv, but it does not seem to work.
The laptop works fine wirelessly in the same room, so the router must be producing a wireless signal, but the TV is seemingly unable to find the network (wirelessly or wired) while the ethernet cable is plugged into the You View box.
Does this mean the only option to watch internet only programmes on the tv is to disconnect the ethernet cable from the You View box and connect it to the tv? Or if we disconnect the ethernet cable from the router, would the tv then pick up the wireless signal? It would be better to not have to disconnect anything....

SOLVED - we had to do a factory reset on the tv, to get it to link to the new BT home hub.... it was linked to our previous router from the previous ISP.,.

Inside lan is not reachable even after cisco Remote access vpn client connected to router C1841 But can ping to the router inside interface and loop back interface but not able to ping even to the directly connected inside device..??

First i would like to Thank you for showing interest in solving my issue...After some research i found that desabling the " IP CEF" will solve the issue...when i desable i was able to communicate success fully with the router lan..But when i desable " IP CEF " Router cpu processer goes to 99% and hangs...
In the output of " sh process cpu" it shows 65% of utilization from "IP INPUT"

No connection between junction box and flat??

I moved into a new built apartment 2 months ago. Ordered a phoneline and finally got the engineer to come in to connect the phoneline. However after several checks, he said the connection between the junction box and our flat had been cut! He also said it is not BT's responsibility as the cut is situated in a private part of the building and the managing agent should have a team of engineer to do the job! Now I have been told by both BT and our managing agent that it is not their responsibility to fix it. I am disconnected for 2 months already! Whose responsbility is it to connect our flat??

When you say 'Junction Box' are you referring to an Internal Distribution Point located somewhere in the block of flats, usually in a basement or cupboard that houses the utilities like the electric metres, etc?
If so then I am afraid the person/company who owns that building will need to fix it or come to some sort of arrangement with Openreach to get cable from the Internal DP to your flat because Openreach can't just go knocking through walls or even running several metres of cabling up and around the door frames of other residents flats.
Although it might be worth checking round the flat for a hidden socket because a few weeks back I went to a job where I couldn't tone back the NTE in the flat to an Internal DP. When I took off the NTE cover I realised the cable to it was a 3 pair Cat5e but the cable back at the DP was 4 pair 8 core wire? I took off all the extension LJU's in the flat and they all had 3 pair Cat5e connecting them as well so I could only assume there was a block terminal hidden somewhere that connected the 8 core wire to the Cat5e that supplied the NTE.
Anyway after several minutes of scratching my head I soon discovered the customer had one of those dual telephone/Sky/TV sockets hidden behind her ridiculously big TV. Turns out the 8 core wire went to that socket and the NTE was really being used as an extension.
