Mixed up graphics

I'm getting some weird behavior. After a lot of change and publish cycles, iWeb is mixing up various images.
The images have names like "shapeimage_3.png". iWeb can't seem to keep them straight.
Opening some of the images on my iDisk and saving them helped fix the problem.
I think it's fixed for now. The site in question is www.JamesBabb.com .
Thanks

Did you use iWeb to produce www.jamesbabb.com?
(BTW, good luck!)

  • Graphic EQ/Surround Mixer/Soundfont Manager for Audigy 4

When I originally got my Audigy 4 SE OEM version, I downloaded the driver and software for it from this website. The cd that came with it had only the driver, and I figured the site would have a more up-to-date version of that anyway. The package I downloaded included the driver, the soundfont bank manager, the surround mixer, the graphic equalizer, and other useful bits of software.
I recently reinstalled Windows, and when I re-downloaded the driver package, I discovered it now comes with only the driver itself and the Creative audio console. I searched the forums looking for others asking the same question, but only found people linking to ISOs of the install cds, and the only one that was for Audigy 4 wouldn't install for me. I'd like to know where I can find the full package, and also, why has all this software disappeared from the downloads section of this site?

you can try here but I don't know if it has the CD for your card.

  • How do I paint graphics in a JFrame created by netbeans GUI builder?

I hope it's ok to ask netbeans questions here. Frustrated with Eclipse I'm trying netbeans. I went through the tutorial for the UI builder and I have no trouble laying out the usual swing widgets like JPanels, JButtons, etc. What I haven't figured out is how to mix ordinary graphics like Graphics.draw() with these components.
Crude example: 2 JPanels in a JFrame. The one on the left has a JSlider bar. The one on the right has a line or something that gets bigger or smaller according to the slider bar.
If I weren't using the UI builder I'd create a new class that is an extension of JPanel, and override paintComponent() with my draw commands. If I did that to a JPanel I layed out with the UI builder it would get lumped in with the protected code that's created on the fly and probably erased.
So how do I mix swing components with ordinary graphics without breaking the netbeans UI builder form?
    Thanks,
    Apchar

This forum is a Java language forum. The NetBeans site has a mailing list. Nabble forums also has NB forums. The contents of both are crossposted. So, you really should post NB use questions to one of them. Post only Java language questions here.
You can add custom code to the guarded (blue) code blocks. Open a component's property window and select the code button at the top. This allows you to insert code in numerous locations within the guarded blocks and retain the code.
You can also click a component's property's ellipsis (...) button to bring up the Property Editor dialog box, then select "Custom Code" from the dropdown list at the top of the dialog.
Note: the above instructions are for NB 6

  • Convert a color pdf to BW

How do I convert a color PDF to black and white?
I am using Adobe Acrobat X version 10.1.7.
Is there an easy way to do this?

As I said, I have not had much success that way either. Pro had the preflight conversion to Grayscale. Since you have Std, you may have to simply use separate graphic tools to convert to Grayscale and then recreate the PDF. If it is a scanned PDF, then you could simply save to a TIFF, use a graphic package to convert to grayscale (I use Irfanview for this type of simple task) and then move the TIFFs back into a PDF. If you have a mix of graphics and text, you may have to deal with a bit more. If the print converts the text, but not the graphics, you might try extracting the graphics (bitmaps I hope) under the tools menu. Convert those graphics to grayscale and then replace the color images with the new ones. (work on a copy of your PDF just in case something does not work)

  • Replacing a G5 with a MB?

I'm almost at the point of replacing my old G5, but have a few reservations.
I am a fairly average user of photo editing software, a bit of Aperture, some iPhoto and other apps on occasion (such as PSE4 or Gimp). I only add about 2000 images a year to the library. However, I do shoot Raw most of the time, and I have a collection of photos going back quite a way - so I do have about 15000, and about 80GB worth.
Apart from that, my use for my Mac is pretty varied. I produce a monthly magazine in Pages (with a mix of graphics and text), and the usual home stuff such as letters and online banking and shopping. I'm not a big gamer, my most used game is probably Redline. I occasionally burn a movie DVD, but that's something I do maybe once every few months.
I had been toying with the idea of a Mac mini, I can see more use from a laptop now, but it'd have to replace my G5 completely. I have no spare cash, but hopefully can sell the G5 to raise enough to buy a MB. My other concern was power consumption - the G5 eats electricity like nothing else, around 300W at idle (not sleep). So I need to reduce the cost here.
My main concern with the laptop is how it will perform compared to my G5 dual 1.8. It still has the stock GeForce 5200FX card in it, which does enough for me, but I have no idea how the graphics in a MB will compare. If it's no worse, then great, if it's considerably better, then even greater.
I also use a lot of drive space, the G5 is currently fitted with a 320GB and a 300GB drive, and I have three more external drives, a FW800 twin box with a 500GB (my Time Machine), and another 320GB drive in it (more backups), and the original 160GB in a USB box just as an Aperture Vault.
I think I can juggle the drives around to fit in with a MB (the 160Gb will be fitted back prior to sale), as my main boot drive only has 80GB in use, and a lot of that could go probably.
I will also keep my HP 20" LCD (1680x1050) screen as a second monitor.
Should I get a MB or stick with the G5?

For what you describe, the MacBook will perform reasonably well.
The integrated graphics in the MacBook do not matter for photo editing. (Only a handful of very advanced photoshop plugins benefit from having a discrete graphics card.) The biggest factor in photo-editing performance is the CPU.
The biggest question is RAM. You didn't give the specs on your G5, but if you're using Pages to layout graphics-heavy documents, you will want to max out the RAM on your MacBook. The good news is that through crucial.com, that's only an extra $115 or so for 4 GB. Definitely do this; it will make a huge difference in Pages' performance.
If you're interested in seeing raw performance benchmarks, here's the best: http://www.primatelabs.ca/blog/2008/04/mac-performance-april-2008/
As you can see, the latest MacBooks easily beat the old G5 systems. They are very, very capable little machines. Their only weaknesses are gaming and 3D graphics work like CAD. Still, they'll run older games pretty well (anything 3+ years in age).
Bottom Line: For what you described, the MacBook would suit you very well.

I have a four-color pdf that I need to convert to greyscale. The pdf now is CMYK set for Press Quality. What are the best settings for high quality greyscale output in Advanced - Print Production - Convert Colors. I am using Acrobat Professional 8.0. Thanks

  • Working with Lightroom and Bridge

I have been using Lightroom for my photos, but was thinking of doing the following:
    - Use Bridge to import files, and sort and tag them
    - This has the benefit of allowing me to categorize movies, etc.
    - Then open and use Lightroom for editing, etc.
Q1: LR is non-destructive. If I add a tag to an image in Bridge, does that write it to the file? Is it non-destructive.
Q2: If I import files into Bridge, do I open LR and import them in there too, or can I simply share the photos between the 2 programs?
Q3: Does LR read the keyword tags from Bridge?
    Thoughts?
    Thanks...
    John

I use Bridge exclusively for culling, editing, keywording. It is faster at those tasks, since it does not require importing everything into a database in order to edit them and then export them. I also already have a DAM that I presently prefer to LR, and likewise for slide shows and printing. I do maintain a 20,000 image test catalog in LR so that I can thoroughly test each of its trial versions, so I am very familiar with it from the first Beta testing to the present.
As long as you write your metadata to sidecars--or directly to tif and jpeg files, or DNG-- both Bridge and LR can see the changes made in either. However, if after you have imported files into the LR Library--and you must do that in order to use any of the features of LR on images--and subsequently delete them, then you must synchronize the folder they are in(lightroom menu item)to clear those image references from Lightrooom's Library. Same goes for adding files to a folder from outside of LR. There are a few things you must remember to do. It is not an entirely automatic process.
If you do a lot of work in PS on your images, you will likely find that working in Bridge with its very fast connection to PS will be faster. If you also do a lot of video--or mixed video, graphics, and image work, you are also likely to find Bridge faster and more workflow effective. LR is strictly a Photographic image management and editing application, from which you can do basic printing, very basic slideshows, and web work.
On the other hand, if you do little editing beyond what ACR provides (same features as LR) and need a DAM that manages only photographic images, and you find the LR Print, web and slideshow features satsifactory, then LR will overall be the more effective workflow.
The only way to determine which is right for you is to give your workflow a thorough test with LR and compare that to Bridge. LR 2.3 appears to be free of significant bugs, is fast and smooth, so this would is a good time for comparison. Bridge CS4/ACR 5.3 have been significantly upgraded as well, as you know. Workflows differ, sometimes significantly, as do machine configurations, so thorough individual testing is a must. Use the tools that will do the best job for your requirements.

  • Folio inconsistencies with pinch & zoom

I Am having an inconsistent pinch & zoom reaction in my folio. Some times PNZ will work immediately on a page and some times it will take up to three tries. the same page can have different reactions when you leave it and come back. double tap always works immediately on page load.
The problem is the same whether the folio is in Content Viewer, ether published or unpublished, or built as an app from App Builder. The reaction is slightly faster on my iPad Air then on my iPad mini (non-retina).  I cannot recreate the problem with Bob's March of Dimes app. So, I'm guessing it's the folio/articles.
THe articles in folio are from a print project built in Indesign. The print catalog contains a mix of graphics from Photoshop and illustrator.  The articles have four layers (top-to-bottom) header, content, search, and footer.
Header - a button for the search MSO and a hyper link
Content - type, graphics, and hyperlinks
Search - MSO with an HTML overlay
    Footer - text and hyperlink
    THe folio is about 80mb.
I Have exhausted my range of why this is happening. Any insight would be appreciated.
    THanks
    Joe

Yes, I am having the same issue. Anyone have any answers?

  • Prints garble intermittently. Some parts of pages print fine, others have characters replaced.

Computer is Windows XP. Printer is wired network connection. Printer is new OfficeJet Pro 8600 N911g and has the latest drivers and firmware.

    Found this fix..
    http://routingbyrumor.wordpress.com/2007/12/30/my-adobe-acrobat-pdf-files-are-printing-garbage-text-...
Today, after reprinting the same PDF several times, and getting garbage out each time, I clicked “print”, and started looking around in the print window that opens for my HP 7260 printer. When I print PDFs, I get an “Advanced” button in the bottom left corner of the print window that I can click on. There are a bunch of “greyed-out” postscript options in this window, but there is also a check box that says “Print as image”. I decided to check this box and click “OK”, which closes the advanced printing options window, then I clicked “OK” to send the PDF to the printer. I think doing this causes the entire document to be sent to the printer as “raster graphics”, rather than as PCL containing a mix of graphics and ASCII text.
Voila! The PDF printed correctly. I’m not certain that checking the “Print as image” option was the reason, but it’s worth trying if you are having this problem, and you have this option in your print setup.

  • 64 Bit jvm issue?

First and foremost: my hardware and software specifications -
    OS:
Microsoft Windows XP Pro Edition x64
    Version 2003 SP2
    JRE:
    java version "1.6.0_16"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_16-b01)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 14.2-b01, mixed mode)
    Graphics Card:
The Quadro FX 5800 Graphics Card
I have an GUI application that uses a JPanel to draw rectangles (g.fillrect(...)) as data continuously comes in. If I use JRE 1.4 32 bit JVM the application runs as expected. If I use JRE 64-Bit Server JVM, the rectangles grow and shrink randomly in the vertical direction. which is unexpected behavior and incorrect.
Does anyone know if there's an issue with the 64 bit JVM? As mentioned above, the application runs fine using a 32 bit 1.4 JRE?
I have also tried compiling the application using the 64 bit JDK, but it did not help.
    Any ideas?
    TIA,

  • How do I work out what pages templates have in them ?

    I think i do this !
how do I work out what pages templates have in them ?

    Hi c,
"Instinctive" (and "Intuitive", the more common term) seem to be often used where "what you're used to" would be a more accurate choice. Nothing about Page Layout is particularly instinctive if you've never done it before.
Regarding 'greying out' some of the tools: Tools and menu items go grey when they aren't available. For example, you can't move an object to the front if you don't have an object selected (or if the selected object is the only thing in the document), or if the selected object is already further forward than anything else in the document. Anytime it is possible to use the tool/menu item in the current context, the tool/item will be active, and shown in dark type.
You mention you are headed toward a "business plan/power point thing." The first (business plan) makes me think in terms of print, and something to be produced from a word processing template rather than page layout one. The second part say 'this will be projected on a screen' and says 'Keynote would be a better application for this task than Pages.'
Keynote is a presentation tool, designed to produce documents that will be presented on a screen (ie. designed for the same type of documents as Powerpoint was built to produce).
Pages has two basic document types, both aimed at producing documents that will be printed:
Word processing—used for things like letters and reports. In general, documents that are mostly text, but that may have some illustrations, charts, or other graphics objects inserted into them.
Page layout—used where there's a mix of graphics and text, with the text usually coming in smaller chunks.
The biggest difference between them is that a 'blank' page layout document is really 'blank'. It can be thought of as a page sized blank canvas onto which you can place containers for text (text boxes), shapes, images, charts, or containers (placeholders) for images or other objects.
A blank word processing document can also accept the objects and containers listed above, but also includes a text layer (where text can be entered directly, without the need to place it into a text box), and a background layer (where objects can be placed behind the text layer).
If the above helps you choose the type of document you want to have as the end product, we can then take a look at one of the templates for that type and look at deconstructing it.
    Regards,
    Barry

  • FCP use in Video Production Facilities

Is anyone on this list using FCP in a medium to large video production facility? The kind that makes commercials, corporate videos and such. I have been in the industry for 30 years and I have some questions regarding FCPs use in this specific environment.

Ooop...I answered you at the Cow.
I just got back from a party at Plastercity Post here in LA. They are FCP from the ground up. 8 edit bays...audio mixing, motion graphics, sound stage...and feature film color correction and finishing..a 2K projection theatre...nice. National ads, HBO TV series, feature film..you name it, they do it. And they know their stuff.
There is also the DR Group in Culver City, Digital Film Tree in Hollywood, West Post Digital in Santa Monica, Outpost Digital in Santa Monica...and these are only the full on POST facilities. There are hundreds of production companies in the LA area that are all FCP based. Bunim Murray...that does THE REAL WORLD for MTV and THE SIMPLE LIFE for FOX...not only are they all FCP, but they have over 100 FCP edit stations. Every Mac in the office runs Final Cut Pro...and they do national TV series. And they do the typical offline/online workflow...capturing at offline RT and recapturing at 8-bit uncompressed for final finishing.

  • P7N SLI Platinum -- not posting

Everything's hooked up, powered up, and spinning, just no signal to the monitor.  With the PSU on, there's one red LED lit on the mobo, powering on the machine adds a blue one to the mix.  Graphics card gives two green lights on its power jacks, indicating proper power.  I know the monitor works, I took it from another machine I have, mouse and keyboard work, and I've tried switching memory configs and just one stick (2G).  I've also cleared the CMOS several times.
Updated: I've taken everything out of the case and have tried with just PSU, GPU, memory, CPU, and heatsink -- same results.
    Anybody, good news?  Many thanks...
    -jmp8

Just got the new mobo, it works!
Now, though, BSOD as Vista boots up "for the first time."  That's after the installation from DVD, before it actually gets to fully boot from HD.  There's only been extra information one out of probably about 15 screens - IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.  I've tried disabling everything fancy in the BIOS - onboard USB, LAN, etc., still no dice.
BIOS reports everything correctly - quad core 2.4, 4G RAM, 500GB HD, etc.
There's not much hardware I can take out/disable - no onboard video means I have to use the video card (known working, I had it tested), trying to boot from the HD (reported good via Vista's diagnostics on the installation disc), Memory reported fine by diags, gotta have the optical drive connected to complete installation...
Is there a BIOS update I need or something else I'm missing?
    EDIT:
Through a couple reformats and repartitions (just one partition) and reseating the video card/memory, I got Vista installed.  Whoo!  Set everything up, downloaded video drivers, restarted, everything's just fine.  This continues for a bit, then another BSOD.  Safe mode (with and without networking) works fine, and I tried uninstalling the new video drivers, but no luck.
    UPDATED UPDATE:
The blue screens hang on "Initializing disk for crash dump...", and in safe mode, when going to "Manage Computer" and selecting "Disk Configuration," I get a blue screen every time when it tries to populate the info.  HD problem?
    Thanks again!

  • 10.6.8 Causes New Problem with Mixed Graphics Hardware Environment - Suggestions?

Hi. After installing the latest Mac OS update (10.6.8), I can no longer boot my 5,1 Mac Pro into its Mac OS partition.  An undefined display (and graphics card) now seems to be used as default, rather than the supported display/hardware, so I cannot interact with the user interface.  I simply have an inoperable blue screen on the correct display. I have 2 graphics cards in my Mac Pro: a supported GT120 (solely for the purpose of booting/using Mac OS), and an unsupported HD6970 (used extensively for Windows 7 3D gaming, in Slot 1).  Until this latest OS release, I could successfully boot and use my computer in both Mac OS and Windows environments.  I encountered other problems because of this mixed graphics environment, like an inability to put the system to sleep without having the Mac Pro PCI fan unnecessarily ramp up to full speed after waking - but it would always work correctly when first booted.  (I have contacted Apple Support about this sleep issue, but they do not support my configuration.) Does any boot command exist to force the use of the supported graphics card?  Or, do kext files exist to enable the Mac OS to at least recognize (not use) the 6970 card? With the 6970 removed, I have no problems booting the Mac OS, but I do NOT want to remove my hardware card every time I want to shift to the Mac OS.  Do anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks for the suggestions.
First, I cannot swap graphic cards in PCI slots, because the 6970 only operates correctly in slot 1 (the high-speed graphics slot).  I may have to revert to the prior OS release, but what about next month, with Lion?
I am familiar with Netkas.org (I will probably try it or Groths.org next, thanks).  One of my previous graphics cards was a flashed 4970.  I do not have access to the prelease Lion kext files that he suggests using.  Full flash support does not appear to yet exist for the 6970, much less the HD 6990 or GTX 590 that it appears I may need next.
Ideally, the Mac Pro firmware should ignore any attempted bus communication with an unrecognized PCI card.  Currently, it appears that the unsupported 6970 can cause boot or run-time problems (I also have occasional freezes during Mac OS hardware interaction like writing a file to disk).  Note that I have never had any problems arising from my unsupported Windows 5.1 PCI sound card, however.

  • Mixing graphics cards

I ordered a Mac Pro with the Radion card. But I'm thinking that I might want to run Final Cut Pro with a 2-monitor setup and use my 50" LCD as a client monitor (3rd monitor). So if I wanted the client monitor to run off DVI, would I have to buy another Radion card, or can I go with a cheaper nVidia?
(I can also run it through a Canopus ADVC via firewire, but obviously DVI would be nicer.)

I don't know why mixing cards wouldn't work, but in
    <http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Hardware/Conceptual/HWTechVideo/Articles/Video_implementation.html#//appleref/doc/uid/TP40003994> it says:
"Note: The Mac Pro does not simultaneously support an ATI graphics card and an Nvidia graphics card."
Based on careful reading of the above document and
    <http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Hardware/Conceptual/HWtechPCI/Articles/pci_implementation.html#//appleref/doc/uid/TP40003937>,
it may be possible to install two ATI Radeon X1900 XT cards, one in slot 1, and one in slot 2 (also covering slot 3). The PCI bus would be set to x8 x8 x1 x8.
The configuration would meet all the cooling and power restrictions. There are auxiliary power connectors for both slots 1 and 2.
This would give you four displays (all could be up to 30") with independent resolution and rotation.
It is not a standard configuration, so you would order the Mac Pro with one ATI Radeon X1900 XT and order the second as an add-on
<http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wo/6.RSLID?mco= 220D662A&nplm=MA631Z%2FA>. Note where it says:
    "System Requirements:
Mac Pro with available double-wide PCI Express slot or two standard slots". They wouldn't say that if it was only allowed in slot 1 (the only double-wide slot).
There would still be one empty slot, x8, with 36 watts available.
