Mixed XP and Windows 7 Environment

I installed a J4680 as a wireless device using my XP machine.  It works fine.  I then directly accessed the printer through the network on my Windows 7 machine and it prints oddly (e.g., the same image displayed twice on a page prints correctly the first time and includes a small version of the image overlaid on top of itself on the second display).  Print Preview shows the correct display.  When Windows 7 accesses the printer shared through the Windows XP machine it works fine but I want to be able to access it without having the Windows XP machine powered up.  Seems Windows 7 needs a different driver and isn't getting it.
I tried removing the printer from the Windows 7 machine and installing it directly with the Windows 7 CD.  No change.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Hi Neil
Yes, this should work. As the UC560 runs CUCME, this should be fine.

  • DNS in a mixed OES and AD environment

I have a mixed environment where most of my DNS is handled by OES servers with our main domain and a subdomain that is handled by Active Directory. For the AD domain, my OES servers are secondaries. I think I may not have something setup quite right because I'm getting the following error in /var/log/messages on my OES (secondary) servers except for the designated secondary:
[NCPL]: Error zone not loaded occurred while getting the db for zone adzone.xxx.xxx.xxx
[NCPL]: Error zone not loaded occurred while writing info for zone adzone_xxx_xxx_xxx.DNSDHCP.XXX to /var/opt/novell/log/named/named_zones.info
The AD zone and the reverse are both owned by the same AD server and the designated secondary is getting this message. Should I *not* have all my other OES secondaries in the "Authoritative DNS servers" list for that zone?
    Thanks,
    Toney.

You need to tell your AD DNS to allow zone transfers. Otherwise, the OES servers will never get the zone.

  • Network users in mixed desktop and portable environment: Best Practices

    Hello,
When using Server 4.0 in a network that includes both Mac desktops and Macbook devices, what is the recommended setup for network users and their Home directories?
The environment I'm building would best be suited for a "Local Only" Home folder setup due to the frequent use of large files, such as iPhoto stores, by many users. However, how does that function with the portables? When on the network, the user has all files accessible locally, but once off site, the user is not available. I know that a user may be converted into a Mobile Account so that it is available both on and off the network. However, my understanding is that this is more suited for syncing Home folder, i.e. when the Home folder is on a network share. Will a mobile account also function this a "Local Only" Home folder setup?
Essentially, I'm using the server to manage network users, not to serve files for the Home directories.
    Thank you.

  • Best Practices for AD and Windows Environment

    Hello Everyone,
I need to create a document having the best practices for AD containing best practices for DNS, DHCP, AD Structure, Group Policy, Trust Etc.
I just need the best practices irrespective of what is implemented in our company.
I just need to create a document for analysis as of now. I searched over the internet but could not find much. I would request you all to pour in your suggestions from where i can find those.
If anyone could send me or point me the link. I am pretty new to the technology, so need your help.
    Thanks in Advance

I have an article where I shared the best practices to use to avoid known AD/DNS issues: http://www.ahmedmalek.com/web/fr/articles.asp?artid=23
However, you need first to identify your requirements and based on these requirements, you can identify what should be implemented on your environment and how to manage it. The basics here is that you need to have at least two DC/DNS/GC servers per AD domain
for the High Availability. You need also to take a system state backup of at least one DC/DNS/GC server in your domain. As for DHCP, you can use 50/50 or 80/20 DHCP rule depending on your setup.
You can also refer to that: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754678%28v=ws.10%29.aspx

  • ZBF in a mixed ipv4 and ipv6 environment, don't touch ipv4

I have a dual stacked router for both ipv4 and ipv6. Ipv4 traffic should pass the zbf untouched due to the fact that there is another rock solid ipv4 firewall egress of the inside Interface. Is there a way that a class map like this could function on ipv6 traffic only?:
    class-map type inspect match-any fullproto

     match protocol https
     match protocol dns

     match protocol appleqtc
     match protocol streamworks
     match protocol vdolive

    Please advise.
    Regards,

I didn't test it, but what about the following:
Configure a new class-map where you match on an ipv6 access-list "any to any"
Configure a third class map of type ""match all" where you match on your "fullproto" class-map and also the above ipv6 class-map. For this class map you configure your inspections.
For ipv4-traffic you configure a class with a "pass" action in both directions.

  • Will the Apple Time Capsule back up both Apple and Windows in a Virtual macine

Will Apple Time Capsule back up Windows as well as Apple data in a virtual machine with Parallels?

Windows home version MSBackup, cannot backup to network drives.
That was a little bonus from Bill for those who didn't fork out for Pro or Ultimate.
Like people with home versions would never need to backup to network drives.. oh no.. never!!
You need to mount the hard disk in windows for it to work.
It will help a lot if you load the airport utility for windows into your windows OS.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1547
Open windows explorer and type the network address of the TC.
\\TCname.local (where TCname is the correct network name of the TC).
The TC should have all names that are windows compatible.. ie
Fred Blog's Airport Time Capsule is just wrong. It is too long, it has spaces and it has apostrophe which is illegal.
A good name for the TC is TC
The default hard disk share name of data is fine. It should not be Time Capsule or anything again that is over long .. has spaces or is otherwise incompatible with windows.
A good name for the TC wifi is TCwifi
Then you can mount it \\TC
typing that directly into the address bar of windows explorer.
There are still issues with windows naturally and running in parallels I have no idea what other issues might come up.
Tell me if you have issues.. but you will need most likely to check the network.
Open a command window and ping the TC by name and by IP address. If IP address works just mount by IP.
\\10.0.1.1 for example .. and that is the default TC IP address when in router mode.
If you still cannot access the TC my recommendation is to use a USB drive and use that.. it is 10x easier and more reliable than mixing Mac and windows backups on the TC.

  • Windows 7 install and/or environment freezing on new 13" MacBook Pro

Hello! Long post, trying to give as much detail as I can... thank you in advance for your help on this!!
I think I posted in the incorrect forum earlier -- reposting here where it's more relevant.
I have a frustrating issue I've been battling all weekend. I can't seem to figure it out.
I'm trying to set up dual boot (Boot Camp) on my new 13" MacBook Pro, installing Windows 7. I've tried x64 (preferable) and x86. This is the mid-April 2010 13" MacBook Pro. C2D 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, 250GB HD, nVidia 320M.
The problem I'm having is the machine is hard-locking. Sometimes it locks up during install (the 2nd phase, after it restarts and is "Completing Installation" (this step: http://spsexton.files.wordpress.com/2008/11/install-13.jpg). This makes me have to restart the installation completely, which is frustrating. Sometimes it locks up at the login screen. Sometimes it locks up once I'm logged in to Windows.
I have noticed that if the installation completes and I can get to the desktop, I can generally use it OK until I install the Boot Camp Drivers (3.1, from the 10.6.3 install DVD). I had a hunch and had also read that it may have to do with the nVidia drivers it installs, so I have tried uninstalling those prior to restart. It locks up anyway at restart (during login). Note that this generally is the case -- sometimes it locks up before I even get to the Boot Camp Drivers step. I sometimes can then get in to Safe Mode without it locking (sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't), and I think I had some repeated errors in the Event Viewer that appeared erroneous (certainly not errors that should cause a hard lock) -- I can post these if needed when I get home from work this evening.
I was having consistent lockups during installation (at the "Completing Installation" step I mentioned above) when I'd let the Boot Camp Assistant set up the partition for me. I thought BCA might be doing something funny, so I set up the partition myself using Disk Utility then installed, and the install went in OK, however I still had it lock up after installing the Boot Camp Drivers.
Here's the steps I've been following:
    1. Partition drive, either using Boot Camp Assistant or Disk Utility. Format to FAT if using Disk Utility.
    2. Boot into Windows installer
    3. Format drive to NTFS in installer
    4. Install
    5. Reboot
    6. Complete install (often locks here as mentioned above)
    7. If install completes, boot in to Windows
    8. Change some system settings -- temp folders, workgroup name, pagefile size, turn off UAC
    9. Reboot
    10. Install Boot Camp Drivers from DVD (sometimes locks before I get here)
    11. (have tried sometimes) Uninstall nVidia drivers installed by Boot Camp
    12. Reboot
    13. Consistent locks
    14. Start over, both trying a new Partition creation (delete old, expand Mac partition, recreate new partition via BCA or DU), or using existing partition
    Some other details:
    1. This environment seems to work fine via Parallels. I only appear to have locking issues if I try to boot natively.
    2. The Boot Camp Drivers installs a bunch of driver crud for devices the machine does not have. Could this be causing an issue? Drivers that Windows is attempting to load and failing, thus causing issues?
    3. I'm mainly trying to install x64 due to the 4GB of RAM -- could this be an issue with the Boot Camp Drivers and Windows x64?
    4. I don't think this is a motherboard issue as the machine is completely stable otherwise -- I'd think that if it was a hardware failure, especially with the motherboard, I'd see other issues elsewhere..
Any ideas??? I'm pulling my hair out on this one. The machine is brand new (just got it Tuesday last week, just started using it this last weekend). My last MacBook Pro (previous model 13" MBP) took Windows 7 without a single hitch and ran smooth as butter.
    Help?

i just got some solution for this... dunno whether it will work for u all... anyone who got the same problem... try to press power button right on welcome screen after u type ur username and password.... or if u didnt put a password, u can press the power button right on the welcome screen... and then it will automatically to the lock state... and then u login again... the windows will appear... i work it on windows 7 64 bit... if u can login for that 1st time, for next time, u dont need to press the power button anymore... for me it works... XD
    cheers...
gud luck for u all... =)

  • Mixing updates for Windows 7 and 8

    Hello,
I'm trying to come up with a design decision for performing monthly workstation updates. Currently I have two baseline software update groups (SUG) for Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 which contain all updates for this year and prior years. All our devices are
Windows 7 with only a handful of Windows 8/8.1 devices. I plan to create monthly update groups to coincide with Patch Tuesday. I would like to know if the preferred method for SUGs is to have a dedicated group for each OS or if it is okay to combine the two
groups into one. I am aware of the limit of 1000 updates per group.
My other question is in regards to Office updates. Should I mix these updates with the OS updates or should this be it's own separate SUG?
    Thanks,
    Chris

It's ok to combine software updates for multiple products into the same SUG and have that SUG deployed to systems that don't qualify for all of the updates. Each client will only install what applies to them specifically. However, it is ideal to not target
any systems with updates that don't apply to them as it can contribute to WMI repository bloat.

I am retired.  In my active years, I purchased Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Standard and Dreamweaver CS5 for my Windows environment.  I recently spent a fortune to migrate to  Apple.  I now (and a bite late) realize that my licenses are not recognized by Adobe. I am desperate. I cannot afford the expense of buying or paying access to the software and, still,  I need the tools for all those little things I do for enjoyment. What can be done?

The licenses are operating system specific, so one option would be to retain use of the Windows machine you had before the Mac.
If you want to try to use the older stuff on your new Mac you can try installing Windows emulation software such as Bootcamp.

  • Tidal agent and Datastage 8.5 conflict on windows environment

Was hoping someone from this community already encountered this before and know how to fix or workaround it?
Anybody setup tidal job on their datastage windows environment? There's no issue as long as the tidal scheduled jobs run fine but when the job fails, the connection between datastage engine and the WAS server will be broken with error code 81022 and users can not login to the DS environment until we  reboot the DS engine server.
Also tried uninstalling the tidal agent on the DS engine server and it works overnight without issue (also run the same job via windows scheduler) and works okay. After reinstalling the newer version of tidal agent for windows... and run the tidal job, DS engine connection broken failure encountered again.
No issues with Unix just windows environment.
Also it maybe worth mentioning that the tidal agent is run as by the service id that has all the permission on the application and project forlders.
Tested this both on tidal agent for windows version 3.0.1.04 and 3.0.1.13 (newer version)
Tidal Master version is 5.3.1... Were just setting up our application environment to test on Tidal v6

Already submitted this issue with our Tidal admin support internally... waiting for them to provide us with ticket and response from Cisco support.

    Admin guide says,
"The following licensing options are available for the Unified CCX system:
Unified CCX Standard (designed for entry-level users)—Includes the steps necessary for creating basic Unified CCX applications including IP Phone Agent (IPPA) and skills-based routing and does not include Cisco Agent Desktop (CAD)."
So in addition to the steps suggested by brian lets make sure that you have licensed the server correctly.

  • Nagios windows and Oracle environment

    Hi Gurus,
I'm planning to implement Nagios tool for SAP monitoring on windows and Oracle environment. Can any one help me on thisu2026u2026..??
    Regards
    Soumitra

    Dear Soumitra,
The only requirement of running Nagios is a machine running Linux (or UNIX variant) and a C compiler. You will probably also want to have TCP/IP configured, as most service checks will be performed over the network.
You can download that suggested plug-in. Extract it and read the Documentation available within that bundle.
The Following links may provide more details.
