Mixers into Garageband 10.0.1

On the previous version of Garageband I was able to plug in my mixer and designate which channel each track was to map to.  I can't seem to find how to do this in the new version.  It does recognize my mixer is plugged in for input/output but nowhere does it show the different channels.  Stumped.  Any suggestions?

Save the file from Gmail onto your computer and add it to iTunes.  How you save from Gmail is a Gmail question (their own support pages), not an iTunes question.

  • Is it possible to IMPORT audio which I saved on my iPad as a WAV, into GarageBand, USING MY IPAD?!

I can't believe this is so unintuitive. I HAVE THE FREAKING FILE ON MY IPAD! So WHY is it seemingly impossible to open it into GarageBand? Okay, so I made a drumbeat in an app called DM1. It allows you to export the song either to the iTunes sharing folder (don't get me started on that. I mean what the **** is it? It sure as heck doesn't seem to appear on iTunes on my iPad, and I'll be damned if I'm going to use another computer for this simple task!) or to email. Okay fine, so I exported it to my email (as an aside, I don't get WHY apple insist on this clunky and weird method of storing files on the iPad. It is the same with GarageBand - you have to 'email it to yourself', then open the email, then click on the file and 'open in', e.g. 'open in GoodReader'. So, what, is the file in GoodReader now? WHY DID I HAVE TO DOWNLOAD GOODREADER, A THIRD PARTY APP, IN ORDER TO VIEW OR OPEN A FILE? Why couldn't it say, um, I dunno, 'SAVE THIS FILE TO YOUR IPAD' or something? What the ****!!!) So, I have the file in an email, as a WAV... how do I get this into GarageBand, so I can add guitars to the drum track? I may be missing something really obvious, but I'm not stupid, and have done many searches on the topic, and I can see a way to do it without some ridiculous method using a Mac or another copy of iTunes or something. NO! It's on my iPad already, there must be a way to do this. Please someone help me!!!
    Thanks

A quick look at the DM1 site shows that it works with Audiocopy.

  • Recording to midi into Garageband with an electro drum kit?

    Hey all
I thought I'd have a play around with a few things this evening on Garageband after work, but wanted to confirm a few things before I start anything.
Ive got an electro drum kit with midi capabailities and also have a Midi to USB lead.
I am assuming I can take a midi in/out from the electro kits brain through the Midi to USB lead into my Mac.
Connect my headphones to my Mac and play with my kit using the in built Garageband drum sounds?
Moving on from this I am assuming I can record the drum midi notes too directly into Garageband (to edit later if necessary)?
I'm guessing that if the above is possible the pads on the kit may not correspond to whats sounds are being played in GB so I will have to remap?
Moving on further from this I also have a Akai EIE Pro interface with 4 channel inputs, so I was going to attempt to record a full live 3 piece band.
(2 vox, 1 guitar, 1 bass) with the Akai, and then also record the midi drums at the same time.
I am assuming that this is also possible?
    Thanks

Yes. Caveat: the Midi to USB "lead" that you mention is actually an interface that might need a driver to work with your computer.
Moving on from this I am assuming I can record the drum midi notes too directly into Garageband (to edit later if necessary)?
    Yes.
I'm guessing that if the above is possible the pads on the kit may not correspond to whats sounds are being played in GB so I will have to remap?
Exactly. Does your drumkit allow to assign a midi note to every pad? Then you could adjust it to trigger the correct GB sounds. An alternative is a midi mapping software like MidiPipe that transforms the incoming midi signal (I haven't tried it personally).

Yes. Again: make sure you have the right driver for the interface that corresponds to your OS version.
    Happy playing around!

  • Can't Drag from iTunes into Garageband anymore

After routine software update to iTunes 10 and Garageband 09 version 5.1,  I can no longer drag files from iTunes into Garageband, whereas I always could before. Whats wrong?  I'm using an iMac with a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor with 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory.

Somehow, when I tried to drag from the finder, I didn't always get the right song!  But if I double clicked that song in the finder, the right song was played by iTunes, even though the wrong song showed up in Garage Band.  Dragging to and from the desktop worked fine, and I just dragged it from the desktop to the trash after I worked on it in Garage Band for editing and "sharing" back into iTunes.

  • I have a 7 minute MP3 that I want to edit, however when I drag it into garageband it only pulls in the first 3:30.  Any thoughts on why?

I have a 7 minute MP3 that I want to edit, however when I drag it into garageband it only pulls in the first 3:30.  Any thoughts on why?  At the 3:30 mark in the song there is a pause but then it starts back up but for some reason the program won't pull in the part of the song beyond the pause.   Thanks!

    Hello npatel1207,
You may need to increase the duration of the project.

  • Plugging guitar into garageband

I recently purchased an adaptor that goes into my headphone jack so that i could plug my guitar into garageband and record it. How do I adjust the settings so that garageband recognizes the guitar in order to play and record with it.

The headphone jack of your Mac? That's an OUT, not an IN. Use the input jack. (Unless you have a MacBook with a dual purpose jack. In that case I believe you have to set it as IN in System Prefs.)
Then in GarageBand Prefs>Audio/MIDI set the input to the built-in option.

  • How do you bring a mp3 into garageband ?

im trying to bring in beats and other mp3 clips into garageband from my itunes but the dragging and dropping does not work. how do you do it !!?? please help  /FYI: im using a 15inch mac book pro OSX 10.8.2

    Two ways to do that:
Drag the mp3-song to the Desktop and from there into the time line in GarageBand.
Use the Media Browser in GarageBand to select the song in iTunes and drag it from the Media Browser into the timeline in GarageBand.
click the iTunes icon to open the Media Browser.

  • Error when importing songs/effects into GarageBand

Whenever I try to import a song or iLife sound effect into garageband, it comes up with an error reading.
    Any ideas?

this may sound silly, since you've done these things, but in order try this
close the GB project first, then quit GB
    log out of your account
log back in, and repair permissions again
launch GB, and create another new project
after that, i'm not sure what else to suggest at the moment. i can't quite figure out what directory GB can't find if it's not the project itself, or a general permissions problem.

  • Fender Mustang I amp into Garageband for iPad

I am trying to connect my Fender Mustang I amp into Garageband using the USB out on the amp into the Camera Connection Kit (CCK) into the iPad2. I have read of many users being able to successfully do this, but I have had no luck.
The Mustang has been updated with the most recent firmware and software. The USB appears to be functioning properly, as I was able to download the recent firmware update.
The CCK is working fine, as I've tested plugging a camera into it, and the iPad read the camera perfectly.
Garageband is also working fine as well.
I have read NatSci's advise in the "Guitar Inputs" thread, and followed these exactly, yet have not been able to successfully get any input. The only input I am getting is the external mic.
The first time I plugged in the CCK with the Mustang Amp, I received a message of (I believe) "This USB device is not supported".
Anyone have any thoughts on how to get this to work? Thanks.

can you describe the exact rocedure to connect the amp on the iPad ??
i see you have an iPad 2 and the accesorie CCK (Camera Connection Kit)
of course you will connect the right adapter with the USB port on the iPad.
Then you will connect the amp...
and what is next to get this amp working ??
i read about updates and firmwares.
as far as i can read you did the next steps.
    1. Updated the amp with latest firmware and software.
    2. Turn off the amp and turn it on again (just for sure that the update is fully operate after updating),
    3. Update the iPad with latest iOS (for now it is iOS 6)
    4. Reboot the iPad (just for sure the iOS is fully operating after updating),
    5. Connect the adapter with usb port,
    6. Connect the amp to the adapter,
    7. Reboot the iPad,
    8. Open garageband,
    and happy jamming
is this the right procedure to do it ?
(probably step 2 and 4 is not needed, but just to make sure everything is properly up and running)

  • HT4622 How to import .band and .mid files into GarageBand for iOS

Using GarageBand for MacOS X, I have no difficulty importing and playing .mid (MIDI) files.  Indeed, I can even rename .kar (Karaoke) files to .mid, import them into GarageBand for MacOS X and see the lyrics along with the score.  Using File Sharing for iOS apps in iTunes.app, I have tried to import .mid and .band files (made from .mid files with GarageBand for MacOS X) using this mechanism.  I get no errors but it doesn't seem to work.  That is, neither the .band file nor the .mid file are accessible from within GarageBand for iOS as far as I can tell.  What should I be doing instead?

As I understand it GarageBand for iOS .band projects can be imported to GarageBand for OS X, but the reverse isn't true. GarageBand for iOS does not import midi files.
The File Sharing section of iTunes doesn't validate the files you put into it, but if the app doesn't like the structure of the file it will just ignore it.

  • After software update I can't drag from iTunes directly into Garageband timeline, always could before, how can I fix this?

After software update I can't drag  songs from iTunes directly into Garageband timeline, always could before, how can I fix this?

Same problem here but figured it out: Drag the song from the Media Browser tab (after selecting iTunes at the top) at the bottom right when you open a new GarageBand project. Hope this helps you -- working perfectly for me!

  • Why can't I import itunes files into garageband 11?

I am trying to import songs or parts of songs from iTunes into GarageBand so that I can create some ringtones.
GarageBand (11) is not allowing me to drop & drag songs to it!?
The songs I am using ARE NOT protected. Some have been purchased, but I always find the 10-20 seconds that I want first, go into the get info/options of the song, choose the timestamp for the potion of the song, & then create an AAC version of the snippet. I then wo,d import the smaller file of the selected part of the song that I wanted.
I previously had been able to. Now I cannot? I used to also us mp3s, but recently read in a forum that they needed to be AAC files.
Anyone else have this issue? Anyone know a solution?
It use to be so easy to create ringtones. Now GarageBand won't let me.
    Please help!

@LeonieDF: What is "hidden user library"?  Where can I find that?
I meant the your User Library; it depends on the operating system if it is hidden or not - since MacOS 10.7 Lion the User Library is hidden.
The "Preferences" subfolder you need to access is located in
Your Home Folder -> Library -> Preferences
If you are using MacOS Lion you access this folder using the Finder's Go menu:
Finder -> Go -> Go to Folder
Then hold down the "Option" key, until "Library" appears in the drop down menu, select "Library", then proceed as above.

  • How do I import a song into GarageBand from 'Music'

how do I import a song which is in 'music' on my iPad into 'GarageBand' on the same iPad - I do not use the Cloud currently but I should not need to for this simple import (sorry, just starting to use the iPad today for the first time) thx

I believe at the moment the only way to import new samples into GarageBand is via the File Sharing feature of iTunes when it is connected to a computer. iCloud won't help as each app is sandboxed and can generally only access its own files. Transfer of data between apps is possible but is tightly controlled and mediated by iOS rather than by simply sharing files between applications as you would on a computer.

  • Is there a way to import cakewalk INS definitions into garageband?

I have an Alesis QSR sound module, and want to import the sounds into garageband. I don't really know anything about midi, apart from hooking up a controller when I play out. I can download the instrument definitions as an INS file for cakewalk, but don't know how to import that into garageband, or if this is even supported. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi Patrick,
I am addressing the similar issue. "Getting data from huge XMLs into Hana."
Using Odata services can we handle huge data (i.e create schema/load into Hana) On-the-fly ?
    In my scenario,
I get a folder of different complex XML files which are to be loaded into Hana database.
Then I gotta transform & cleanse the data.
Can I use oData services to transform and cleanse the data ?
If so, how can I create oData services dynamically ?
    Any help is highly appreciated.
    Thank you.
