Mixes up Aperture Albums between syncs

I'm syncing a few selected albums through Aperture and have noticed that the albums I've selected get somewhat intermittently scrambled between syncs, especially if I've added new albums.
Here's the way it works:
I select a few albums to sync in iTunes from Aperture.
I sync the iPhone
I add more photos or add albums in Aperture.
I create previews for selected albums (I don't use previews for all my photos currently)
When I sync the iPhone again I find one or more albums have been unselected, and on occasion an incorrect album selected for sync instead.
Has anyone else seen this behavior?
PowerMac G5 2.3GHz   Mac OS X (10.4)

YES! Happens to me when I add albums to Aperture, then re-sync iPhone. It just randomly chooses different albums, Some stick, some don't.

  • BUG: Photo sync with Aperture albums?

Hi, I think I have found a bug with how iTunes syncs photos across to my new (and until my number ports across, useless) iPhone. I posted this in a different discussion previously...
    If you set it up that only selected Aperture albums are synced, like this;
    [ ] album1
    [tick] album2
    [ ] album3
    [tick] album4
then albums 2 and 4 are optimized and copied across.
    However, if in Aperture you create a new album (by importing new photos, say) that appears in the list, e.g., between album2 and album3, then the ticks retain their spacial position, not their position relative to the album they are meant to sync;
    [ ] album1
    [tick] album2
    [ ] album_new
    [tick] album3
    [ ] album4
So now, when you sync, album4 is deleted and album3 is placed on the phone - not what you would expect.
    Has anyone else noticed this?

    Hi Scott,
    Thanks for the reply.
That's strange... I am using leopard, with iTunes 7.5 and a brand new UK iPhone (so it has 1.1.2 already on it). It was essentially in 'virgin' state too; I had to return my 1st phone due to a tiny but annoying problem with it. I noticed the this after only a couple of syncs - when the sync was taking a while due to the photo optimizing step.
I will take another look tonight.
    Thanks,
    Tristan

  • Syncing Aperture library between two computers using MobileMe and DropBox

I'd like to have my Aperture library automatically sync'd between my MacBookPro and iMac.
I have MobileMe and I'd ideally like to use it to sync, however I believe Aperture sees the library as a large single file, and so is not really practical to do this.
I believe DropBox does handle this better, but I only have the 2GB free version, and don't want to upgrade while I'm paying for MobileMe (which I use mainly for iPhone syncing).
So, I was wondering would keeping the RAW and JPEG images in my iDisk (outside the library) and using a library in my DropBox folder using referenced master files to the images seem like a workable solution?
I appreciate I need to only use one system at a time and make sure it's all sync'd before using the other computer or risk corruption.

Just curious - why do you think it would be slow?
With iDisk sync turned on the master images would be on the local hard drive, as would the library in the DropBox folder. Might have to use a symbolic link or mount to make the local hard disk iDisk folder appear in the exact same location on both machines, though maybe not even that?

  • Aperture Albums Selected for Sync Change

After adding an album or project in Aperture, the albums selected for sync in iTunes change.
    Cross-post: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1147308

I've been able to repeat this bug reliably: whenever I add an album that ends up listed before albums selected for sync in iTunes, the synced albums shift down (or the checkmark shifts up) one step in the album list in iTunes, rendering iTunes sync of Aperture albums pretty much useless.

  • Not all albums are syncing with between itunes match and iphone 5.. WHY!!!

Not all albums are syncing with between itunes match and iphone 5.. WHY!!!

First, disable iTunes Match on the iPhone. Open the Music app and let the content clear out. Now, in iTunes, disable iTunes Match while holding down the Option key (Shift for Windows). Quit iTunes, wait a few seconds, and re-open it. Turn iTM back on and let it complete it's scan. The songs that are "waiting" ought to get converted to "purchased," "uploaded" or "matched." Once the scan is complete re-enable the service on the iPhone.

  • Photo count does not match between iPhone and Aperture Album

I have several Aperture albums synced with my iPhone. In one instance, I have an album that in Aperture has 272 images, and on the iPhone has only 62. The 62 on the iPhone are not the first or last 62, but an assortment over the span of the 272, with no apparent rhyme or reason. All the images in Aperture are in the library (none are missing), they are all the same size, format, etc.
For reference, my iPhone has a total of 680 photos in 13 albums, the largest album is 164 photos. There is almost a gig of space left on the 8GB iPhone, so it is not running out of room.
How can I resolve this, or is there a fix/trouble ticket on the map for this? Help!!

Hi. I had the same problem. It was resolved after I selected the all the photos in that album then go to Aperture Menu > Images > Update Preview.
The photo count shown in iTunes was correct after that. Hope this helps.

  • Will the new iCloud feature sync Aperture libraries between different computers?

If there was a Cloud section in the forums i would post this there but there isn't so here it is. Syncing my Aperture libraries between my laptop and imac is a big problem for me right now. Does anyone know if the new Cloud air synching feature coming this fall will sync photos between aperture libraries on multiple computers?

There is now an iCloud community iCloud
But I believe the answer to this question is no, iCloud is not meant to do this type of syncing.

  • Sync Aperture Library between two Macs

I apologize if this is an obvious question; I've searched this community and can't find an answer.
My wife and I currently have iMacs, and we both have iPhoto, and the problem is that we both tend to import pictures we take into our respective iPhoto libraries, but there's no way to easily sync them so we both have all pictures.
I'm intrigued by Aperture's purported "sync" capabilities. Hopefully, an Aperture expert here can tell me if AP3 has the ability to do what I described above - keep two individual copies of Aperture across two Macs on the same network in sync automatically?

Unfortunately it will be difficult to do this even with Aperture. I'm thinking the the 'sync' capabilities you heard of are Apertures merge library command.
Merging libraries is meant to facilitate what happens when a single user takes all or a part of their library out into the field and then wishes to merge the changes made when they return. So for instance I take a part of my library make changes to it, add new things to it and then merge it back into the original library. When I do the merge I have to tell Aperture which library to use to resolve conflicts. That is one of the libraries has to be made the master.
In a situation like you are describing where two independent users make changes to their respective libraries and then try to merge them which library is designated the master? If you make changes to image A in your library and leave image B alone but your wife does the opposite what should the merged library look like? As Aperture is now one or the other would have to rule.
If its just a question of images you each add independent of the other to your respective libraries you could work something out along the lines of exporting the new project from one library and importing into the other but trying to sync changes between two independent users would be difficult.

  • Aperture - Album from Shared Library Not Appearing in iTunes

I have a recurring problem which is making Aperture downright useless.
I operate a shared Aperture library (shared between 2 users on the same iMAC) which resides in the 'Shared' Users folder. Obviously we cannot have the same library open at the same time -that's no problem. I have set the sharing properties for the library contents and folders to Read and Write for both of us.
The problem is that when I add photos and create a new Project ad Album to put them in (not worried about the other user at the moment), these don't show up in the Aperture album or project list in Photos in iTunes to sync to my iPad or iPhone.
I have this very minute added a new album, closed Aperture and made sure its written to disk. Then I have closed the iTunes app and made sure it has quit.
Then when iTunes loads up again and I connect my device - the library and project do not appear in the items to sync.
This happens all of the time and it's making Aperture pretty pants. If the only resolution is to rebuild thumbnails, rebuild XML file etc or any more of that - then its not fit for purpose.
Has anybody a long term permanent fix for this?
It's seriously doing my head in!

Bumping this up as it seems that nobody has any idea.

  • Aperture Won't Sync with Apple TV

My Aperture photos do not sync automatically with my Apple TV. If I select an album on Apple TV, the album will load, but I cannot get all the albums to sync automatically, even overnight. I have both the Apple TV and my Mac set not to sleep. I'm using Aperture 3.3, Mac OS 10.7.4, and Apple TV 5.0.2 software. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?

Then your problem may well be a network problem rather than just showing photos.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Aperture Albums Listed Without Folder or Album Structure

Aperture albums listed in the sync settings for a connected iPod do not reflect the folder structure in Aperture, which results (a) difficulty identifying albums for import and (b) serious bugs.
    The latter include:
    (1) Failure to detect album name changes.
    (2) Masking of albums with duplicate names.
As a result, it is easy to end up with albums that iTunes never sees, even after attempts to make them visible by giving them a unique name.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem or found a workaround.

I wonder that nobody else has similar issues.
That is how I get it fixed.
Switch of sync, delete the photo library file, empty trash, copy my photos library backup from my external drive to my picture directory, switch on sync again.
It took several hours and about 20GB traffic to get it back in sync with the entire folder structure.

  • Aperture isn't syncing to iPhone in chronological order

I just moved from iPhoto 09 to Aperture, and when I synced my iPhone with Aperture for the first time, Aperture isn't syncing to iPhone in chronological order like it did in iPhoto. All my images, albums, etc. are sorted by image date in Aperture, but there doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason as to how iTunes/Aperture sync to my iPhone 3G. I'd like to be able to scroll down to my newest photos on the iPhone like I did when I synced with iPhoto 09. Anything I need to do differently? Thanks.

This has been discussed on the iPhone forum. The best way to "fix it" is change the album sort in aperture to custom (drop down menu). This seems to fix it.

  • Can't get new photos added to existing iPhoto albums to sync with iPhone

I tried talking about this in the iTunes area, but there was no response:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/20660036#20660036
I thought I'd drop by the iPhone discussion area next.
The problem in a nutshell is that I can't get new photos added to iPhoto albums to sync with my iPhone 5. I can even unselect the albums, sync, see the albums deleted on the iPhone, select the albums again, sync, see the albums recreated - but the recreated albums don't include the photos I added yesterday.
I don't know if this is an iTunes 11 bug, an iPhoto bug or an iPhone bug.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    doug

Yes, but which album will be empty?
Anyway, as soon as I saw how creating albums locally on the iPhone actually worked I said to myself, "This is not reasonable" and as much as I dislike iPhoto decided to keep doing it there until that feature is improved.
It seems like an obvious thing to improve. Then the albums can sync between the iPhone, iPhoto and other iOS devices more like "it just works" (which it doesn't do now).
