Mixing Adobe Versions

I currently have Adobe Design Standard Edition CS3. I just learned that I need to purchase Dreamweaver. Should I buy Dreamweaver CS3 or CS4?
If I decide to purchase the Adobe Web Standard Edition suite of apps instead of standalone Dreamweaver should I go w/ CS3 or CS4?
Just want to be cost-effective but also make sure that my existing apps will work w/ the new web apps.

There is not really any issues. Except if there are features for that get added or updated, you may find that working between versions where you import PSD files into DW directly may not function the same. I only say may because I have never done it. However if you are slicing up images in Photoshop and then doing the creating your own HTML from that I don't suspect you would run into any issues.
Personally speaking though if you want to be cost effective, the full version of DW CS4 is $399. The upgrade from Design Standard CS3 to Design Premium CS4 is $599.
If you decide to go to the web standard route you would lose Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. You would only be able to get CS3 as that is the current version from Adobe.
Again this is a hard argument. The Web Standard upgrade is $399. For $200 more you upgrade Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign (the auto-aligning features are nice in Illustrator and InDesign to keep positioning as perfect as possible). Then you also get Acrobat 9 Pro, Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Flash.
If you can afford $200 more go for the suite.

Turns out that although libjavaplugin_oji.so is still shipped with Java, it's only there to support older browsers.
With Firefox 3.6 and later, the link in plugins should instead point to jre/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so

Javascript Detection of Adobe reader plugin for Adobe version 9.0

I'm working on a javascript utility that finds out the version of the adobe reader plugin that is installed in firefox and IE.
The firefox code works fine but I can't detect Adobe version 9.0 for IE using the following code.

The detectActiveXControl('AcroPDF.PDF.9'); function call results in an object does not exist exception at runtime despite the fact that I have adobe reader 9 installed on my machine. So I assume that the name of the object has been changed for Adobe 9.
Ihave been googling for most of the afternoon to try and find the correct object but no luck so far. If anybody knows the name of the object for adobe reader 9 and wants to let me know it would be greatly appreciated.

I recently installed a plug-in for PDF files on Firefox called Schubert|it PDF Browser Plugin (recommended by mozilla.support.org) since I was unable to open PDF files without downloading them, then open them with Preview.
I was really satisfied, works great, although i had to make some adjustments to get it started !
Unfortunately, when I switch back to Safari, the plug kicks in. Now, as I remember, Safari has a "built-in" Adobe Reader plug in and it work just fine.
My Question is: Is it possible to affetct the Schubert it PDF Browser Plugin for Firefox and keep Adobe for Safari ? Otherwise, I would almost prefere to have AdobeReader for both of them, since i have good experience with it.

After installing Adobe Version X Pro, I still cannot "create" a PDF package from Excel since the Adobe add-in does not appear after installation. Can someone provide their inputs?

To examine the conversion settings in Acrobat, do the following:
1. Select Edit > Preferences
2. In the preferences dialog, select the "Convert From PDF" category.
3. In the "Converting From PDF" list, select "Excel workbook".
4. Click the "Edit Settings" button to view your conversion settings.

Adobe Version 9: Memory Leak Issue causing the application to crash .

We are facing an issue with Adobe Acrobat Reader Version 9. The application is getting crashed with an unhandled system exception (Access violation reading location 0x1003a24e).
Our application is a .NET Windows based application, where we are using webbrowser control to view the pdf files.
The application works fine with Adobe Version 8 and 10. But there is an issue specific to Version 9, even described in the Adobe Forum
We tried using CoFreeUnusedLibraries Function on the form close event of the document viewer as a work around, but it didn’t help.
The client is not willing to move to the Adobe Reader Version 10. Can anyone facing similar issue with Adobe Version 9, please assist.

How to make my form be compatible with older adobe versions

I created a dynamic form with adobe lifecycle 9. As users try to use the form, they get this error:
"This PDF form requires a more recent version of Adobe® Reader® or Adobe Acrobat® software. While this form may appear to be working, some elements may not function correctly or may not appear at all."
Is there a way to make the form be compatible with older adobe versions?

In the File Menu -> Form Properties under Default Tab, choose the Target Version of Adobe Reader that you expect users to have the minimum version.
If any of the functionality does not compatible with the selected version, then the warnings will be displayed under report tab. You can access it by going to Window menu -> Report.

Scripting System Preferences/Adobe Version Cue Preferences

I'm trying to disable the Adobe Version Cue CS2 status bar menu on a number of machines at the same time. I can't figure out how to reference the check box for it though.

Adobe version checker : Network connection failed

Hello all,
I recently wanted to try the new "Adobe Mobile Packager" to publish a FL application.
I succeeded in making the .sis file, with an empty certificate. When installing the .sis application, all went fine.
But when I wanted to launch it, it asked me to install the "new" other "Adobe Version Checker" application... but when it tried to connect, i have a great "network connection failed" prompting to me. and the application could not be launched.
Any idea to solve this ?

SMC Firmware update NOT compatible with Adobe Version Cue

After 2 days of SMC Firmware install & reboot problems (and many other folks in this forum), I went to my Apple Store Genius who resolved the issue by turning off Adobe Version Cue at startup.
It is now a know problem at Apple.

Now it seems logical that if OSX can boot in Safe Mode it's probably a StartUp program conflict ... and NON-universal programs are likely culprits according to the Apple Genius.

Help with CS3 Adobe Version Cue Server problem.

Adobe Version Cue Server (CS3) doesn't display in the system prefs, niether will install a working copy off of Install disc after removed. There seems to be no way to fix this, In bridge it can't connect. All I get is a bunch of errors.

CS3 is known for the worst version ever of Bridge and also not supported any longer, you are using Bridge version 2 and current CC version is Bridge 6.
Also Version Cue has been discontinued per CS5
There is a blog post about a fix for a certain problem but not sure this is what you need (it is for a Mac), you can give it a try:

Also keep in mind Bridge is not developed nor official supported for use over a network.
And in general, when something happens with Bridge first thing to try is resetting the preferences holding down option key (Mac) or ctrl (Win) while restarting Bridge.
But also I'm not sure you are in the right forum. Do a forum search about Version Cue using the Adobe Forums as source and see what result you get.

Program uninstalled incorrectly (Adobe Version Cue CS 2)

Hey all!
I'm a fairly new mac user and when i recently wanted to uninstal Adobe Version Cue CS 2 i accidentally deleted the program files without running the uninstaller. The result is that OS X (I'm using 10.4.5) now thinks that Version Cue is still installed and displays it under system preferences while none (or at least most) of the files are actually not on the computer. I obviously tried reinstalling Version Cue but the installation CD wouldn't let me as it also detected that Version Cue was already installed. Does anyone know how i can "tell" OS X that Version Cue is not there anymore so I can reinstall it?
I was thinking of installing Version Cue on one of my friends mac and then copy the program files (especially the uninstaller) to mine. I'm guessing this could solve my problem but it would obviously be a lot easier if I could fix the problem by myself.

See the Adobe Support document "Manually remove Adobe Creative Suite (2.0 on Mac OS X)." Follow the steps therein pertinent to Version Cue. You may want to compare those steps with the Adobe Support document "Message "Version Cue is already installed on this machine..." appears when you reinstall Adobe Creative Suite (Mac OS)." The latter seems to apply to CS1 and comparing the two documents indicates some of the Version Cue file names have changed from CS1 to CS2.
When you have questions about third-party programs, it is often best to start your search with the Support Web site of the firm that publishes the program. I found the above in minutes by searching the Adobe support site.
To avoid uninstall problems like this in the future, see my "Uninstalling applications" FAQ for important advice on uninstalling software.

Lion does not support PowerPC Applications (Photoshop Elements 4, Quicken, etc.), that ran in Rosetta on the previous Intel OS X's.

I keep receiving this message to download Adobe Version 11.0.3.37. I click on the update button but nothing happens. The message goes away but appears a couple of days later. This is a pain. I hope I don't have a virus? Has this happen to anyone else?

HI, guys, thanks for your help, but I will try to be more precise.
1. When I started this thread, I meant that yes I could read pdf's in firefox. I could not print ANY firefox (html) page to my adobe printer. When I command the page to be printed to adobe, I see a small window that shows the pdf being assembled, but it stops in the middle, stays locked, and firefox has to be manually crashed so that I keep working.
If, instead of commanding a print to adobe, I use the pdfit! add-on, it creates a pdf in any directory I choose, without problems. But I think I should not depend on the pdfit! because I've always used the firefox until mid 2012 (I can't remember which release)
2. The same thing happens when Firefox is already exhibiting a pdf and I simply command File-Print. I must crash Firefox in order to keep working.
3. When, upon your suggestion, I disabled both adobe add-ons, then when I click a link to open a pdf, I don't get an open choice, just save or cancel. It's a new ball game, besides not solving the original problem.
4. By the way, the preference pdfjs.disabled in about:config is False.
