Mixing bass loud enough to be heard through MacBook speakers

I can never seem to get my bass tracks loud enough (within the context of my all my mixing) to be heard through my MacBook speakers. The bass (recorded with a jazz bass) sounds fine w/ headphones, in the car as well as through studio monitors. I know MacBook -- and laptop speakers in general -- are considered terrible for music listening, but let's be honest: it's the most common method.
I listen to other recordings by other bands and you can hear their bass OK this way. Why not w/ my recordings?

I know this thread is a little old, but I've had the same problems in the past and have found a plugin for mixing that at least partially solves this exact problem. It's called Waves RBass and you can find it at http://www.waves.com/Content.aspx?id=194. What this does is basically crank up the harmonics, instead of the fundamental tone. You can read more about it in the manual at http://www.waves.com/manuals/plugins/RBass.pdf (Chapter 1, under "What is the secret?"). Just thought I'd share it, in case someone else has the same issues.

  • Whine - Heard through external speakers!

I don't think I saw anyone with this yet, although forgive me if it's common knowledge already, but, I just hooked up some external speakers (ones on my external LCD monitor) to my MBP, and I can hear the whine through them! It doesn't matter if the volume is muted, or up all the way, I can hear the whine at the same level. I confirmed that it was indeed the CPU whine by disabline the 2nd core. When I do, the whine goes away (on the laptop and through the speakers). I don't know where to go from here (maybe send it in AGAIN to have the logicboard replaced?), but I figured I'd let everyone know!

    I also had this problem:

The only solution offered by Apple was not using a Macbook Pro, because the noise is "within spec". So I reluctantly returned it.
Note that I'm talking about a 17" Macbook Pro from week 25. That is what Apple said there is no solution for (because there is no problem) - it might be different for yours.

  • Audio will not work through Macbook Speakers.

Hello I just bought a black macbook and it had the infamous audio problem w/the red light coming out the audio jack. It worked fine with headphones or speakers but once I unplugged them, then a red light would shine through the jack and then no sound output through the Macbook's speakers.
Initially I fixed the problem, but every time I plugged in my external speakers, and then unplugged them the red light would reappear.
Now I have no red light in the headphone jack and there is still no sound...my Macbook can still output sound through headphones or external speakers but it wont work through the built-in speakers and now there is NO red light shining through the headphone jack...any ideas?
    Thanks!

  • Audio not heard from the speakers when iPhone connected to the power cord.

somtimes no audio heard from external speakers at all, when iPhone is connected to the power cord.
The troubleshoot I have done successfully was unpluging the power cord from the back of the iPhone then it rests the audio and audio can be heard through the speakers. This issue needs to be addressed to Apple tech support for permanent resolution.

The Nokia 3720 classic is a IP54 level water,
Not even close to good enough, LCD screen will crack, water will go in through the jack/charger ports..
The phone i describe has no external ports just 4-5 little pins which can't let water in or out of the device, the docking station will connect via these 4 - 5 pins for data transfer and recharging...., IPX8 standard, all the electronics are epxoyed with a glue to stop real bad shocks from drops and bangs, along with a silicon case and all the other preventative meausres means this little phone is going to outlive you.
in combination with heart rate external bluetooth connection, really what more could you want... only the Sonim comes close in terms of perfection but if it managed to pack all of above, then it would be simply wow... I don't think there's enough people who work for nokia who actually go camping, backpacking, hiking, i'm pretty sure that if i told them one day
on a holiday you might drop your phone into the swimming pool, ok fine it's a mistake but damn, there goes your $$$$ N7 or N900 or even a HTC or Iphone.... not this, you'd yell to the first person you see in the pool, hey mate can i have my phone back, don't worry about the water damage, i'll get it back on insurance after a small lie stopping the person from running off with it (in fear of the now useless mobile phoned killed by water, making an attempt to steal be useless)
The person gets their phone back and carries on about his day, it drops out of your pocket, how many times you ran over it because you happened to leave it behind the back tire. oh no i ran over my phone, the tough casing and the epoxy keeping it nice and safe, except for superficial damage cosmetic, the screen and phone should be working still able to make that call or send out GPS info....
Sorry nothing comes close by any company (except Sonim) in terms of what they can do... maybe even a portable charger turn it to recharge like on LED dynamos. nah maybe not.

  • Microphone is heard through speak

Hey..... I have the SB Li've24bit sound card which has the three(3) holes to accept my Creative 5. surround speaker system. Of course it also has a fourth hole to accept a microphone. I use the microphone feature during online games and with Ventrilo and Teamspeak. The problem is: My voice is heard over my speakers when I talk which is creating excess noise for other players. This problem occurs whether I am on Ventrilo/TS or not. All the other players say that they can't hear their voices through their speakers. It has to be something that is checked or unchecked but I believe I have tried almost everything. Some real good help would be appreciated.

It appears that you have just neglected to mute your mixer connection between the microphone input and the speaker output.
If you have the Creative Sound Mixer icon in your task bar double click it. Since you are using your microphone input the "REC" input will show your microphone. Look for a second a microphone logo to the left (blue section). Click on the blue speaker button at the bottom of the volume slider to mute this output. A red cross will appear.
    or
If you are using the Windows Mixer double click on its icon. When it opens click on "Options" in the tool bar. Click on properties and then make sure that the "Playback" button is checked. Look down the list of volume controls in the lower half of this window. Make sure that Microphone has a check mark so that this slider will be displayed. Click OK. The Playback slider control window will appear. Check the Mute button on the microphone slider.

  • Zen Vision M 30 GB : sound not loud enough and how to change title of albums on the

Hi, I'm a french ZVM new user so sorry for my bad english !?Two questions :?) I have very good ears, I don't like to listen the music too loud?but my ZVM does not play loud enough. I always need to put volume on level 25 (the maximum) when I'm listening to ZVM outside (and in the quiet of my house, I still have to put volume around 22 to hear something). I've red on this forum that one of the solution is to upgrade the version of the firmware. My ZVM is loaded at present with version .40.02. Can the download of the last version available on the creative website solve my problem ? Is there another way to solve it ?2) I've used the software CREATIVE MEDIA EXPLORER to load my cd's albums on my ZVM. But there are some mistakes in the title of the albums loaded (the ID3 tag are sometimes wrong). How can I change the wrong titles on my ZVM ? I've changed them on the files on my PC, with CREATIVE MEDIA EXPLORER but the changes are not uploaded on my ZVM. Thanks a lot for your answers and advices

My sister had a problem with call volume being too low on the iPhone 5S.  Is the iPhone 6 louder?  Is anyone else feeling that call volume on iPhone 5S isn't loud enough?

I personally haven't experienced much of the "reverberation/feedback" when using a headset on the i4S...
Yes, I have near-perfect hearing too (for scope, squeaky brakes hurt my ears) I come from many conversations on many phones and types and first off, CDMA technology is great for coverage, terrible for voice quality. HD Voice in Europe made for some of the best phone conversations I've ever had.
Back on track, feedback is most noticable (similar to the landline phone) when using the iPhone without a headset, but for me it's not an absolute criticality mainly because I use VoIP apps alot, so maybe it has desensitized me some over the past year.
But whenever I'm on a call, and the other person has me on speakerphone, I have alot of trouble talking because of the feedback loop caused. So the less of my voice I hear the better I can talk.
Have you tried a bluetooth headset yet?

  • Song in my iphone 4 not loud enough when i play on the dock speaker.

when i play song on my iphone using dock speaker the song not loud enough.. pls help.

If your dock is connected to an amplifier/speaker system try this:
With your phone sitting in the dock, try to increase the volume, using the volume control buttons of the phone. Set it to max and you should have more sound coming out of your speakers.

  • Volume - Not loud enough.

My husband and I would like to listen/watch videos without headphones, however, the maximum volume is not loud enough for us to understand some words. Is there a way of increasing the maximum volume output without the use of external speakers or headphones?
    Thanks.

    Open iTunes on your computer---Podcast--->
Pick the Podcast you want to raise the volume--->
    Press the keys...Command+i--->
    Press the Option tab--->
Check the box Volume Adjustment...Set the volume to your liking.
    or set it to 100%
If you want to do all the podcast at one time. Choose all the podcasts at one-time. You can do the same with movies and music too. If you want to adjust the volume to a select few in you library, Seclect All--->Option key and click on the podcasts (video, music) that you want to deselect.

  • Output sound, NOT LOUD ENOUGH

I HAVE UPGRADED MY MACBOOK TO LEOPARD OS, AND AUDIO IS REALLY LOW EVEN-THOUGH THE VOLUME IS REALY HIGH. I WENT TO PREFERENCE SETTING, CHECKED SETTINGS AND THEY ARE OK. I CANT HEAR MY MUSIC LOUD ENOUGH THE MY MUSIC OR ANY OTHER AUDIO. PLEASE HELP.

    Hello,
Most notebook sound devices usually produce hallow sounds and are normally harder to hear at higher distances. Your best bet, rather than to push the limits of the speakers, ( they aren't great ) is to hook your laptop into some external speakers made for this type of operation. I usually hook my Macbook up to the TV along with my home theater system when I am using Front Row. I highly suggest you do the same.

  • ITunes not loud enough

I have a Toshiba P205 notebook. All the drivers are up to date. When I listen to podcasts on iTunes, I have to turn the volume all the way up, set the preamp to max, everything, and it's still not loud enough. When I run the 'test' app from Realtek, it's loud enough to break glass. What's up with iTunes?
Same thing on my iPhone 3GS. Just not loud enough.
    Ideas?

I have to turn the volume all the way up, set the preamp to max,
    What "preamp"?
iTunes has its own volume separate from the system volume. Top left under the Play button.

  • Microphone voice of iPhone4 is not loud enough

I call to my parents yesterday, but they complained the voice was not loud enough.
Version is 5.11, I bought it in Apple.com 18 September.

    - Go to Settings>Sound and see if a Sound Limit is set. I
Make sure it is at max
    - EU has recently required that devices like the iPod limit volume lower to preserve hearing. Thee is no way to raise that limit.  USA and other placs to not have that limit. The limit is locked to a unique identifier on the iPod like SN so restoring does not remove it.
