Mixing Color with a simple Brush Tool

Ok, I know this i probably a very rookie mistake, and the solution might be around the corner, but I really can get it.
I would like to use two colors to create a new one (like using a real color palette, on a real painting), using only the Brush tool, finding a middle tone between them. I've seen this simple procedure on Youtube, but I can't replicate it.
So I have two colors:
I sample from the bright-blu to lighten up the dark-blu and starting to find the first shade.
But as you can see below, it does not merge the two colors, creating a gradation, it only paint the bright-blu OVER the dark-one.
The same happens in reverse (if I paint with the dark-blu over the bright-one).
No matter how many time I paint over, in shorts I can only replace one color with the other one.
As shown on the video, I use a Hard Round Brush (not the Mixer Brush Tool), with 100% opacity and 50% flow.
Any idea?
Hanks in advance,
Franz

Thank you, Sudarshan.
Actually the first video explain what I'm trying to achive, but not how to do it.
As you can see, he doesn't use the Mixer Brush (widely covered in the second video), he uses a simple Brush tool. Painting with some yellow over red, he blends the two color and comes out with an orange. As simple as that.
In my case, when I paint with the bright-blue over the dark-blu, (as in the picture), bright-blu totally cover the dark-blu. Doesn't merge with it.
So you can get a middle tone of blu (as he got the orange)
So, I'm thinking I've might accidentaly selected (or de-selected) 'something' in one of the billions menus of Photoshop.

  • How do I copy just the color with the Eye Dropper Tool?

Anytime I use the tool to copy a color, the entire format copies and changes the look of the object I already have selected. Is there a way to set my preferences so I only copy color with the Eye Dropper tool?

Hmm...I'm not sure what's going wrong, but even that doesn't seem to work. I think using Shift will help fine, because I do still benefit from copying objects in the same format. But I still appreciate the help. Thanks.

  • After I chose a color with the eye dropper tool, the filler fills in a grayer version of the color, for some reason.

I have CS3 and after I chose a color with the eye dropper tool, the filler fills in a grayer version of the color for some reason. Everything was fine till I accidentally picked the color sampler tool instead of the eye dropper tool. I undid that, but then after that everything with the regular eye dropper tool and the fill tool got messed up. How can I fix it?

Sorry, I am new to the forum, and a novice with not much knowledge about computers. Sorry if some terms that I use here may not be entirely correct, as I am ignorant of terms of the trade. My Operating system is Mac 10.6.8. I am using Photoshop 10.0.1. I am doing a many layered color RGB setting artwork from scanned and photo images, 8 bits/channel. I have been working on this project for a month without any problems. I was using the eye dropper tool. I selected a color in my artwork and it showed up in the background color box, in the tools window, as a match from the sample that I had taken. Then I selected an area, with the lasso tool, and I accidentally picked the tool called "color sample tool", that puts a little target on the sample area and then a box pops up with numbers that move when the tool moves. That wasn't what I wanted, so I got out of there and chose the eye dropper, I selected the color, it looked good in the box in the tools window, but then when I went up to the fill command and chose fill ( which was set at 100%). I filled the selection, but it was not the color I chose that is in box, it was a grayed and lightened version of the one that I chose. I checked the layers setting and the opacity and fill were at 100%, as was the fill setting. I can't figure out what is making it not fill in the color that is chosen in the tools color window. Does anyone on this forum have an idea of what might be happening and how to fix it?

  • Why does my Wacom tablet only make straight lines with the pencil & brush tool even WITHOUT shift?

I have Photoshop CS3 on Mac OSX 10.5.8 on a white MacBook and I'm using a Wacom CTE-630, and I always had the correct drivers.
Yesterday I discovered that the brush and pencil tools were incapable of doing anything but a dot or a straight line while I used my Wacom tablet. Using those tools with the touchpad works perfectly! Curves and squiggles abound! But for some reason I can't do it with my tablet.
And I yes I tried downloading the latest drivers from the Wacom website... to no avail.
After looking through forums I discovered that it was a problem experienced by users of tablets of other brands, I couldn't find any mention of Wacom tablets having this issue. And then I saw a thread somewhere that mentioned holding shift created straight lines! So I immediately thought that perhaps photoshop was functioning in reverse or maybe my shift button was broken...
So I pressed shift, and something different happened, if I made a dot on the page a line would automatically appear, connecting that dot to the previous dot I had made. Which is in contrast to the issue I had been having which goes something like this:
If I try to make any curved lines, a dot will appear where I first made contact on the page and then when I release the pen from the tablet a straight line will go from there to the dot at the start of the line. In other words, a dot appears when I start a line and no matter what I do with the line after that, a straight line goes from where I ended the line to where I started it!! ARGHHHH!!
And it turns out It's not a Wacom problem, or it doesn't seem to be, because it works fine with the brush tool in Illustrator CS3.
So I came to the conclusion it was Photoshop that was at fault. I found nothing on these forums related to my issue.
I hope someone can help. Because I was really itching to start digitally painting again. =(
    Thanks in advance!!

Yes I did solve the problem!
Thanks to everyone that suggested things, but none of them worked. In the end it was Wacom, yes... WACOM that solved the problem. Even though it was an Adobe Photoshop issue as far as I could tell. So thank you Wacom, you helped me when I needed it most.
So now to the vital solution:
"Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding pen tool in Adobe Photoshop CS3.
Please try the step below for reset CS3
For MAC, please hold pressing command + alt+ shift, then open Photoshop.
Get the CS3 update. Start CS3 while holding.
If the problem remains, uninstall and reinstall Adobe Photoshop CS3 again."
Worked the first time for me. So spread the word! This issue shall trouble people no more, a solution has been found!

  • I need help with the roto brush tool, please?

whenever I go to roto brush my clip, I start off by making my first stroke. When I do this it changes the layer time, and it is not synced up any more. If I uncheck the render box it goes to the next frame. Whenever I make a stroke, it does not effect the frame I drew on, but the one after. Any help?

Here we go. I have AE CS6. I'm trying to roto scope a bit of footage that is easily longer than 30 seconds. I have windows 7. When I started out roto scoping, it worked fine. At one point I clicked page down and nothing happened. When I clicked it again it went to the next frame as it should have done. Then, when I tried to corrections to the roto scope, nothing happened. No matter where I drew, either using the foreground or background tool, you know the red dot or the green dot, nothing happened. When I push page down it goes to the next frame and everything I drew on the previous frame happened on that frame. Therfore, whenever I use the rotoscope, it is not working on the frame I am drawing on but the one after. When ever I check the render box the view is now the next frame, not the frame I am working on. When I recheck the render box it goes back to the previous frame that I was working in, but nothing was happening. I restarted the roto brush tool to see if that would help. When I make my original line for the foreground there is a short pause, then it acts like the brush should. I noticed in the time line that the layer I was working on sifted over a frame to the right. If I control+z it the history says undo layer time change.
Is that enough information to get some help?

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/photoshop/cs/using/WSfd1234e1c4b69f30ea53e41001031ab64-7607a.h tml

sheez. I had NO idea this was to be posted to Forum! Wow. I thought it was feedback to adobe ;-)
anyway, WOW. THANKS! I wish i had done this eons ago. SO many hours trying to figure it out!
i'm not the sharpest pencil in the pack, it seems... ;-)
and thank you for that last bit, as well. For i find that i was searching for the correct way, not realizing the proper framework is to look at the result, not which tool produces it. Nice! That helps to organize the operation ;-)
    again, nice! Thanks!

  • Sampling color using "Option" key while Brush tool is selected (CS6)

I am used to "Option" clicking on a color, while using the Brush tool, to set the foreground color. In CS6, it is updating the background color instead, even though the "Info" panel clearly says "Click to choose new foreground color" when I hold down the Option key. What setting am I missing?
The foreground color is the active color in the color swatches.
Manually selecting the Eyedropper tool and option-clicking, updates the foreground color. Simply clicking, updates the background color

I think that Conroy has given you the solution, but one can also toggle the Foreground and Background Colors with the X key. I assume that is the same (unless one has remapped it) on the Mac.
    Good luck,

  • How can we improve the Roto Brush tool and Refine Matte effect?

If you use the Roto Brush tool and/or Refine Matte effect, let us know how you're using it and what you'd like to see improved.
(We'd especially appreciate it if you gave feedback after you've had a chance to learn how to use the features and try them out on some real work.)
Normally, we like to encourage feedback through the feature-request form, but in this case we'd like to get a more public conversation going.

    Hello,
I've been using the Roto Brush and so far I am very impressed.  It is much more stable than I anticipated and gets me pretty far with much less work.  I'd say I can get my shots 85-90% of the way done with the Roto Brush tools, in a fraction of the time.  Bravo to Adobe for such a great tool.  I have however, hit one major snag.  I am part of a pipeline and I need to render out my mattes and pass them up the chain.  When I look at my Roto Brush precomp it is beautiful, the motion blur is perfect and the alpha looks identical when I check that out.  However when I render out my tiff sequence and pull it back in to check it, there is bleed in the motion blur.  I'm not sure this is a roto brush problem because when I look at the alpha of the roto brush layer and the rendered matte they appear identical.  Any suggestions on how to get the bleed out of the blur?
    Thanks,
    Danielle

  • Variable Width profile for the brush tool keeps resetting

This problem is baffling me. I'm fairly new to Illustrator so I would appreciate some help. I’m using Adobe Illustrator CS6 with a mouse rather than a pressure graphics tablet.
When I create a stroke using the Paint brush tool I would like the stroke to contain a variable width profile. For example narrower at the beginning and end of the stroke but thicker in the middle. Now I can do this by selecting the line after I have made the stroke and choosing the Basic Brush Definition from the drop down list.  But if i try to draw a new line the settings are reset again.  I cannot create a variable stroke while creating the stroke. The brush definition keeps resetting to 5 pt Round and stroke width 1 pt. It would be much quicker if the stroke remained as a varying width profile as I created the strokes.
I noticed the same problem with the blob brush tool except it's even worse. With the blob brush tool the stroke weight always resets regardless of whether or not I try to set a Variable width profile.
I tried deselecting "New Art has Basic Appearance" mentioned on another forum but that didn't work.
I know its possible because I’ve seen it done on this youtube video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5wW_65iAiU
Notice the variable width profile is maintained as the artists draws. It doesn’t keep resetting.
    Thanks

Just set the Colorization method of the new Brush to Tints or Tints and Shades from the dropdown in the lower right corner of the New Brush diaglo.

  • Quick Selection Brush Tool

I have been trying to follow a fascinating earlier thread about changing the
background of an image. In news:[email protected] , Bob
Warren wrote, "I refined that somewhat again with the selection brush." I
looked this up in Help, where I was confronted with
    Quick Selection Brush tool options
    A. Quick Selection tool
    B. Selection Brush tool
In the Editor, select the Quick Selection Brush tool...
    and on the next page,
In the Editor, select the Selection Brush tool from the toolbox. You may
need to click the Quick Selection Brush tool in the toolbox and select the
Selection Brush from the list of hidden tools that appears.
What is the difference between a Selection Brush, a Selection Brush tool, a
Quick Selection tool and a Quick Selection Brush tool? And which one should
I be using to "refine" a selection?
    Noel

The quick selection tool and the selection brush are grouped together as a subset of the same tool in the toolbox. By default it shows the Quick selection tool. The sentence means that you will see the quick selection tool in the toolbox. To get to the (non-quick) selection brush, you must click the quick selection tool and choose the regular selection brush from the flyout menu.

  • Healing brush tool behaving strangely in Elements 8

Hi - I'd just got used to using this tool. Brilliant thing but also found its limitations then suddenly every time I use it, it leaves a black smudge behind. Can't account for it. When your finger is on the mouse button it appears to be working but when you let go a large black smudge appears - I can't work out what I'm doing wrong. Anyone know?

Did the healing brush tool ever work without leaving a smudge?
You can try to reset the healing brush tool and see if that
helps. With the healing brush tool selected, in the tool options
bar on the far left, click and select reset tool.

  • Lightroom 5 Autosync pinsel/brush tool

I have several photos that I want to edit with the correction brush tool.
The pictures are always made from the same position, the object rotates in this case on its own axis.
Now I want correction brush to identify a photo with the tool and sync it with all the other photos.
    The background to remain cropped.
But the problem is now that lightroom does not recognize the rotation of the object.
what possibilities do I have to edit them all at the same time without having to do each individually?

  • Coloring with brush tool

I was watching one video tutorial where this person had first a color picture, and then he changed it to a black and white pic. I'm ok 'til this point. Then he, using a brush tool, selectively brought some colors back. Hard to explain.. I tried to do it but my brush didn't do anything. So in my case,  B&W stayed B&W.
I tried it with a color picture where was pretty flowers. I wanted everything else B&W but the roses. What am I doing wrong? Do I have some settings wrong or what do you think?
I have a love and hate relationship with Photoshop and just now it's more hate...
    thanks for help,
    Inge

Photoshop's just a tool - an insanely complicated tool.  Don't hate it; love it and it will reward you.
The tutorial was likely showing off the History Brush tool.  The History Brush allows you to select a step in the History list, then brush the pixels back to the way they were at that step.
    For example:
    1. Open a color image.
    2. Make your History panel visible by choosing Window - History.
    3. Do Image - Adjust - Desaturate.
    4. Your History list will now have two steps in it Open and Desaturate.
    5. Click the little box to the left of the step that says Open.  That will now be the source for the History Brush.
    6.  Select the History Brush from the tools palette and brush over your image.  It will restore the color to the way the image looked before the Desaturate.

  • How do I fill color into an object drawn with the brush tool?

I'm watching a tutorial to learn more, and one think I still don't know is how to fill something with color that is drawn out via the brush tool. Say I draw a black circle and want to fill the color to green. I'm not talking about Live Paint were you select an object. I see in the tutorial the guys selects some tool but I can't see what it is.

You can fill any closed path by simply setting its fill color in the color palette... Paths can be smoothed with teh smooth tool. Please refer to the online help for specifics. Just watching tutorials doesn't necessarily teach you everything....
