Mixing Four Tracks To One Stereo Track

Hi,
In Logic 7.2.3,if I have recorded four backing vocal tracks, all doubled up, and I want them panned across the track, from left to right, is there a way that I can submix them to one stereo track, still keeping their pan positions, so I can apply processing to all of them together.
I tried doing this via a buss to aux track, but it only picked up one side of the stereo spectrum, which is no good.
I remember this was easy to do in Ableton Live, as you could directly output from one track to another track, but I cannot find this option in Logic.
Thanks,
Tristan.

Send them to a bus. Buses are stereo in Logic and you can apply the same effects to the bus that you can to any track. The output from the bus is normally the main ouput (though you can change it) so it gets back into the mix.
Perhaps the easiest way is to route the I/O of the selected tracks not to Output 1/2 but to Bus 1 and do that for all your backing tracks.
Another way is to click on the Send button on the vocals track and route to Bus 1. Then ramp up the send pot, but check your levels since you are now sending both the original track and the bus to your output. If you don't want the originals to go into the mix, set the tracks to no output or use the first method I mentioned.
You'll probably want Bus 1 in your arrange window. To get it, open the track mixer, click on Global (to display all the objects in your system), scroll to to the extreme right and double click on the label Bus 1.
Hope that helps!

  • Making two mono tracks from one stereo track?

I've used the M-Audio MobilePre USB device to record  vocal and guitar at the same time. In GarageBand, this inputs as one track, with guitar on the left channel and vocal on the right.
I'd like to separate this one stereo track into two mono tracks for further mixing and editing.
Any ideas on how to do this?
    Thanks!

  • How to SPLIT ONE STEREO TRACK'S L & R CHANNELS INTO TWO MONO CHANNELS

Does anyone know if this is possible: How to SPLIT ONE STEREO TRACK'S L & R CHANNELS INTO TWO MONO CHANNELS?  There's got to be a way, but I just can't find out how.
I recorded a podcast -- me and a guest, with each mic going to its own mono channel. When I opened it in Audition it mixed them into one stereo channel.
Thanks in advance for any help.

You're a big help! Thanks very much.  Simple yet I must be going blind because I didn't see that in the menu.
    Take care and THANKS AGAIN.

  • Export MXF Op1a XDCAMHD with one stereo track?!

I need a MXF Op1a XDCAMHD with only one stereo track as a master file.
If i choose "stereo" in the export settings I always get two mono files.
I know, that it is not a standart in a MXF with XDCAM to use stereo, but
I know that there are some broadcaster out there who use such a file as master file.
Does anyone know how to create it? That would be very helpful.

That's right I checked the file in the VLC Player.
I exported an MXF IMX30 file and it worked with stereo file, in VLC as well!
I send the "stereo" MFX XDCAM to a broadcaster and he said it is not a MXF with a stereo track. So the same like I recognized after my export.
So it seems to be possible to export MXF's with stereo files, but not in XDCAM.
Does anyone use it? Or has a similar problem / workflow?!

  • Convert two mono tracks into one stereo?

I've imported a clip from my DV camera into Final Cut. For whatever reason, the clip audio is two mono tracks rather than one stereo track. Is there a way for me to convert this to a stereo track after the import?
    Thanks very much,

Select both clips in the Timeline, then go to Modify->Stereo Pair (Option L). But if both clips contain the same audio information, it won't really be stereo ... just two tracks panned left & right.
If you want the audio to come in as stereo when you capture next time, make sure that you have the Capture settings for the audio set to "stereo."

  • Two mono tracks - one stereo

How could I join two mono tracks (wav pcm) to one stereo without quality loss using ST Pro 2.0? If there is no good way to do this, could you recommend something, that can. Thanks

Not sure what you mean by joining 2 files, but if you export as the same bitdepth and samplerate and leave the faders at 0 VU there shouldn't be any quality loss.

  • Mixing down tracks within a GB project

Hi Guys. Here's a question that I cannot work out (perhaps because it's not possible??)
How do you mix down 3 or 4 tracks into one, as we used to do in the days analogue mixing. eg, I have a nearly completed project, but decide to add a string quartet composed on 4 tracks - one for each instrument, but would like to mix it down to one track to make it easier to move/copy etc

Make sure to keep a copy of your orchestral GarageBand project. You may not be happy with the mix when everything is completed.
There should be no reason to mix down the tracks, however. GarageBand 3 will automatically make a Software track into a Real track by just "locking" the track. This will save you CPU cycles if this is an issue. That way you will still have control over the mix parameters.

  • Premiere Pro Can Capture Only One Stereo Pair?

I'm thinking of getting PPro CS 5.5, so I'm reading the Help file to learn about it first and I came across this listed under "Importing Digital Audio":
    1) "Although the DV format can record two independent stereo audio pairs, Premiere Pro can capture only one stereo pair.
It may be possible to select either stereo pair 1, stereo pair 2, or a mix of both, depending on the DV hardware you use."
Does this mean if I have 2 mic's connected to my camera, PPro can only capture 1 stereo pair or the other or a "mix" of both?  What does that mean?
Would I be able to edit both stereo pairs as separate tracks on the timeline?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Harm,
The specs on the Canon HV20 say DV can do 2  channels in 16 bit mode and 4 channels in 12 bit mode.
But I want to start using HDV, which can only do 2 channels in 16 bit mode.  HDV uses MPEG-1 Audio Layer 2, 16 bit, 48 kHz, transfer rate 384 kbps (2 channels).
The DV settings are PCM digital sound with 2 modes: 16 bit, 48 kHz/2 channels and in 12 bit mode is 32 kHz/4 channels.
Is a "stereo pair" 2 channels?

  • How to mix reason through logic, then stereo back to reason mastering?

Is it possible to mix a track from reason through logics mixer (yes I know how to do this ok) but then send the master from logic back to reason so that I can master it in reasons mastering kit - I really prefer their mastering setup for some types of music the sound is just what I want (not for others) especially dance - but I can't find a way to do this? Do I have to print the logic mix into a sample and load it into a new reasons project? I'd rather hear the mix with mastering applied as well if possible.

Yeah i feel you, the sound is very characteristic and well-suited for electronic productions, I agree. Although technically, it doesn't compare to what you can achieve with Waves or even standard Logic mastering plugins, the sound can be very nice.
At the same time, Reason wouldn't be Reason anymore if it had audio input support That's what Logic is for

I have four devices on one Apple ID, i have seperate emails and phone numbers for each device but when I tried to add one to my iPod, it said that the email was already in use.  I have tried many things and the only guess I have is that either someone else has this email as their iMessage but is fake or it wasn't taken off my old iPod when I reset it.  Any ideas on what to do?

Thanks but that doesn't give me the information I need.  I am putting an email on my ipod for people to contact me for iMessage and FaceTime but when I put the email in, it gives me an error saying that the email cannot be veirified because it is already in use.  My Apple ID can be varified, just not the email that they will contact me with.

You need a unique AppleID for each iCloud account.  So grab some free gmail, hotmail, aol, yahoo or whatever email addresses to make five new AppleIDs.  Now, everybody make an iCloud account for themselves, and keep the existing shared AppleID and password just for use in the iTunes and App Stores.  You can also each use your own unique AppleIDs to make iMessage accounts and keep those separate as well.

  • Editing classical music on one stereo track? Best workflow?

    Hello
How should I use Logic only for editing music which is recorded on a CD-recorder?
I work like recording the music in small parts. Then I would like to put the bites together
again. What is the best method?
Should I use the default setting New-Produce-Two track stereo mixing and then put the bites
on two sperate tracks before comping?
    with regards

Deleting one track was one of the first things I thought of, but I wasn't sure if it would affect the overall sound. Panning the leftover channel... I hadn't thought of that. *slaps self on forehead*. Dealing with audio, as you can probably tell, is a bit of a foreign world to me. We have such a short amount of time in the ADR room, that I guess I was terrified of going in with something not right and wasting valuable time. But I just did what you suggested, it sounds fine, and I'm sure will meet up to what they need.
    Thanks for the quick help!

  • Direction Mixer or Pan Knob on stereo tracks?

Hello to all you brilliant logic forumers,
I just wondered what people were using to pan stereo tracks in light of the pan knob acting like a "balance" knob. As soon as I found that out on this forum I immediately went back to all my songs with stereo tracks in it that I thought I was "panning" and used the Direction Mixer instead.....it was like a whole different mix in a totally different song!
Why would anybody want to use the pan knob to pan stereo tracks if it doesn't take the entire stereo field and pan it to the desired position? It just seems a little bizzare to me that you have to use a plug-in to properly pan a stereo track.

    Hi DR9,
I have a Dierction-Mixer plugin question for you,
since you seem to use it quite a bit.
Where in the audio channel insert slots should i put
it? after all my plugins or as the first insert?
Say I have a mono track that has an EQ, a Stereo
autofilter plugin, followed by a compressor.
Where would be the most Logical (yes, I know) place
    to put it?
On another track, say I have a mono track, but only
with all mono plugins. Then where would it make
    better sense?
    Thanks for any info...
I would love to know the answer to this question also. Forgot to include it in my original post. If I can add one more part to it: What's the benefit of using the Direction Mixer on a Mono track? Thanks to you all.

  • Mixed Audio Tracks: How'd it happen?

I'm a relative newbie. FCP 5.02 using Built in Audio.
I have a Beta Source Tape with split tracks (a lav on each track of a two person interview).
I captured it in DV 48Khz, source remained split.
I edited some pulls into a sequence.
For reasons I hope someone can explain, the sequence rendered my audio as mono out, mixing the two tracks so that they are no longer individual as sources (though a match frame takes one back to the original which is.)
How do I get back to the unmixed version and what setting is driving this process when I am just using two tracks?
When I look at the tracks of the sequence in the Mix Tool, they appear to be panned completely right and left just as the source is and not panned to the center (as one might think they would appear now that the split tracks are mixed together.)
    Any tips would be appreciated.

I tried changing that setting but it appears to have no effect on the output. I'm not clear if in any configuration it should lead to a mixed output. My understanding is essentially one is a unmixed multi channel output 1 to 1, 2 to 2, 3 to 3 and the other is a traditional stereo mix, 1 to left, 2 to right, 3 to left, and so on.
Imagine two mono sources like two separate Lavs, A on track 1 of the source and B on track 2. If the sequence is set to multichannel, then A should always remain on Track 1 and B on track 2. They wouldn't output mixed. If the sequence is set as stereo, then track 1 is panned left and track 2 is panned right and they shouldn't end up mixed.
I wonder if there is a scenario where one goes from multichannel to stereo, and FCP assumes everything should be center. Then I would think that would be reflected in the audio mix tool but it isn't.
Last but not least, perhaps there is some way to unwittingly achieve a mix of A and B by editing a sequence into sequence, which is a methodology I use often.
Another stray bit - in the options for built-in audio there isn't a 48Khz setting, just 44.1 Khz. Since the sequence is DV and at 48 Khz, does that force a render?

  • Saving or Exporting my mix causes tracks to move around

So I was working on a mix last night and had my vocals perfect with the rest of the mix. I even exported it to itunes and it's perfect. Except for the fact that I wanted to lower the volume on one of the vocals, so I go back, lower the volume and save it as another name. I play it back again inside of GB and now the vocals are completely off.
I went through this process several times, starting with my first almost perfect save and each time I resave this as a new name, you can actually see the vocal segment change right before your eyes.
What is happening here? And how do I get it to stop!?

How is it changing right before your eyes? Moving left and right in time? Changing in volume?
If it's moving in time, try clicking on the note next to the timer/measure counter, and set the ruler to quarter notes so the vocal track will snap to quarter note divisions.
If you have the clock clicked, the tracks will not snap to any grid and can slide around easily.
    Hope this helps.
