Mixing Ram with different CAS latencies in K7n2 Delta-L?

I have been using 512mb Kingston Value Ram in my computer, pc3200, with CAS latency of 3.0.   I just purchased some Corsair value select 512mb ram pc3200 with CAS latency of 2.5.   I know you are not supposed to mix ram with different speeds (like 400 vs. 333) but does it matter if the CAS latencies are different?
I'm running an AMD XP 1800+, K7n2 delta-L, nforce2 motherboard from MSI.  Someone at a computer shop told me they tried mixing Kingston 3.0 CAS with Corsair 2.5 CAS, and said his computer wouldn't even post.  So I'm wondering if this is an isolated problem, or you will always run into this problem if you mix ram with different CAS latencies.
If anyone has experience with this issue, please share with the board.  Thanks!
Chris

The age old question, will the components I bought be compatible ? There are those that have bought identical matching memory that didn't work. In my case, I had an ECS K7S5A that used PC2100 Crucial memory, the sticks neither matched (at one time they did, but one stick died and they sent me the closest thing they had.). Neither of these Crucial sticks was identified by a configurator as being compatible with the K7N2 Delta L that I decided to buy. In the end, not only did both sticks work, but I put them in as single channel mode (ram slots 1 & 2), but later changed the configuration to dual channel mode (ram slots 1 & 3, even 2 & 3). It worked flawlessly in all three configurations. Sorry for the long answer, but in essence, there are no guarantees and your worries will drive you crazy. When memory is mixed, you reduce the likelihood of compatibility, even when you go beyond the recommended products that were specifically identified.
That guy at the computer shop, did he ever indicate or isolate the true reason why the memory wouldn't work ? Maybe, maybe not. I would think with a disparity in memory, the bios is the key to setting the settings for the worst stick of the bunch. Then again, the products you get might overclock to what the better sticks run at. My assumption is that mixed sticks, the bios retards settings to this in "auto" mode. When you force it manually, it may work or it may fail. One thing you oughta know, each and every stick has the manufacturers id encoded onto them at the very least, just like the firmware on other items indicates a manufacturer code and other data that allows these things to be compatible. So know you face that battle going in with any of them. If the bios programming doesn't allow it to work, from that perspective, there'll be problems.

  • BUG with Memory CAS-Latency with MSI i848P Neo-LS BIOS

I have a bug with MSI i848P Neo-LS BIOS. I try many MSI i848P with same trouble : the CAS Latency is always set to 2.0 even if the memory is CAS Latency 2.5.
It doesn't depend on PSU or others things (graphics card,...).
    Try with Pentium 4C 2.6 or 2.8
But I have just one brand of memory (but many different sticks). Chips reference are VT56DD32M8PC-5 (256 or 512 Mb). This memory are reference as Cas Latency 2.5
If I set memory timings on SPD or manual : same result !!!
If I set memory speed on AUTO or 400 MHz : same result  !!!
If I set other timings, then they are save correctly (ie : RAS# precharge set to 3 or 4).
    I check timings with latest version of Memtest86+ V1.0 : http://www.memtest.org/
and of course, I get many errors.
The same memory tested on others mobo, give good results.
I try Windows XP installation and I get....  blue screens.
With some memory sticks : I have this message "memory timing too tighly",
if I press F1 to continue: then I get a memory cas latency of 2.5 with memtest86+ and then no error.
I try BIOS revision 1.0 (default) and 1.2: same result !!!
So, as I said before, I think this is a bug with the BIOS. I agree that a BIOS cannot detect correctly all kind of memory, but if you set memory timings manualy, then it must be set as you want ! ?
    Any idea...
    Thanks

    H0 Alex,
You are correct.I have the same problem with my 875p neo lsr on bios 1.9. TH0S 0S B0OS BUG.but everyone says your psu is not enough or your rams isnt  on the MSI Memory Compatability List.
why all of rams I try give same result?
MS0 boards works only with 10 or 20 ram.you don't say customer why you use this rams?
why in asus boards many os these rams working properly. This rams isnt on the MSI Memory Compatability List.but working.I try many no name rams and results are very good in all of the tests.
In my opinion MS0 bioses doesnt work good enough.

  • [AMD] problems errors ram with cpu vcore change on k7n2 delta2 platinum

    hello
i'm a french new owner of k7n2 delta2 platinum and i got something strange.
I have 2*512 PC3200 cas3 of kingston value ram with voltage 1.75 instead of 1.6v running in dual CAS 2.5/3/3/8 at FSB 195 like the cpu : 2500xp barton.
With occt and memtest86+ i'm stable with a CPU vcore at 1.725.After 195 the computer starts but not really stable. So i put the cpu vcore at 1.75 to put higher fsb and then i get thousands RAM errors with memtest(even if i stay fsb 195). i tried with cas 3/3/3/11 and it was worst. On the bios B5 i tried with different settings : agressive, optimal, 1/1, auto, manual, patch ddr or not...and always the same. My PSU is 450w noname and i've 4 HD 1player 1 burner & a geforce 5200 o/c 10%.
Of course i'm happy to reach 195 but i feel disapointed to be stop with this problem of vcore/ram because i have not problem of temperature with a silent boost for cpu(52°c maxi), 3 fans for the box(35°c maxi) and copper memory heat spreaders for ram.
    thanks for your answer

the thing to check is the vdimm voltage for the ram ... i'm pretty sure it should be around 2.6 volts .. try upping it one step
vcore is the voltage to the cpu and doesn't affect the ram

"...So i put the cpu vcore at 1.75 to put higher fsb and then i get thousands RAM errors with memtest..." I would say it's not the v. core but the CPU o/c. that gives that errors, as it make not sence to increase v.core only for itself.
    Oh yes it does
The CPU and memory work hand-in-hand. If one is out of sync it can cause the other to start spitting out errors.
You are overclocking and that more of a scientific art, not an exact science.
Components react differently to an entire list of variables, especially the CPU/memory.
What you are trying to do requires trail and error testing however I agree the Kingston memory is holding you back at this point with the clock you are pushing
I would go for the most stable FSB settings that allow Dynamic Overclock to be enabled to SERGEANT before I would go for ultra High FSB because you will peak the system at its highest performance curve when you need the boost, and I would bet money that peak would be higher than any strait FSB over-clock you can hit stable.
Psychologically allot of people think their systems are not running the highest performance it can unless they set the system up at the highest FSB/multiplier and that is simply not true with dynamic overclocking enabled and correctly tuned with the rest of the components.

  • Mixing RAM from different manufacturer's?

    Hi
i currently have 2.5 gig of ram that was installed by apple, and i am looking to add matched pair of 1 GB to give me 2 more gig of ram, and 4.5 total
can i mix my standard ram with samsung ram? i dont want to buy and have it not work, also there is same ram on the site with slightly different specs for less, a, i better off going with that?
    thanks in advance!

Hi, and a Warm Welcome to the Power Mac G5 Forum!
Well - the G5 RAM specs are here
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86414
Some of the Apple Original G5 RAM was Samsung, apparently.
You will not go far wrong purchasing RAM from OWC with their "Lifetime Advance Replacement Warranty"...
Personally I have never had a problem with Crucial
    http://crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=1D1DFB01A5CA7304
who have a similar guarantee. And the parent company of Crucial - Micron - were also suppliers of Apple Original G5 RAM, apparently. Good Luck.

  • Totally confused about mixing videos with different field orders.

I have PPcs5 on the pc.
I edit for many different shooters. As such I get everything: Progressive, upper field , lower field . Not to mention from a zillion different cameras & different resolutions.
I output 95% so far to dvd ntsc, 5% BR.
I get dv tapes on some & HD files also. Many times I get a mixure of both on each job. Also Iphone HD files too. Going crazy trying to fiquer out how to set up my sequence when I have upper field  or progressive by themselves & also when they are mixed with lower field dv foot...Do I force everything into a lower field seq if going to dvd?
Do I have to deinterlace anything?
If I drag a clip to the new "create seq" icon, it will match the clips properties but is that correct if its a progressive only project or an Upper field project going out to dvd ntsc?
Do I need to RT click on the clips in the project window & "interpet Footage" & force it into a lower field there 1st? Is there a difference between setting up a seq to be played on a progressive DVD player hdmi to a prog TV as apposed to setting up a seq for a non hdmi or non progressive tv?
Does outputting to dvd automatically force it to lower field ?
If my seq isnt set up correctly I notice a big interlace problem when the cams pan from side to side, especially when there are multiple cams with different field orders. Have been unable to find any good discussions or articles on the topic.
How do you guys do it without going crazzzzzzzy? Are there rules? What are the rules? A rule book would really help:-)  I Yern for the old DVCAM/DV days:-)

DV is always lower and HD is upper or progressive.
As you are having all fields in one timeline i would make it progressive.
Premiere does a good job in deinterlacing.
Only use Interprete footage when the footage is interprete wrong.
Set up a progressive timeline and drop everything in it. If a clip does not behave correctly you can change fields in the Field Options.
Export from Premiere and import into Encore. That is what i would do......

  • Mixing materials with different Goods Receipt date in the same Storage Unit

    Hello everybody,
I´d like to know how  FIFO strategy would affect to this example:
Adding boxes from one storage unit (pallet) to another storage unit (pallet). Both storage units have different goods receipt dates, so there is a pallet which has boxes with different GR dates.
Would FIFO make difference among boxes inside the storage unit?. As far as I know, when adding stock (boxes) to a handling unit (pallet), the system keeps the oldest GR date and does not create new quant number for the incoming boxes
Thanks in advance for your help

    Hi Nagesh,
Thank you for the input. I am receiving Stock from vendor and while creating Inbound delivery i created the Handling Unit and also packed it and i could also post it (PG Receipt). Now when i am creating TO i have that error message. The Storage Location where i am receiving is 9001and i have also maintained the partner Storage location,,, its like this Plant(1000)-SLoc(9001)-Partner SLoc(9002).... now the Storage Location 9002 is not HU managed,, the reason i gave this Storage location is, initially i gave 9001, but system said "Storage Location 9001 and 9001 must have different management systems". So now kindly tell me what is the purpose of the partner Storage location and which storage location should i give, as my partner Storage location across "1000-9001-????" thank you again for ur inputs.

  • Case Recommendation for K7N2 Delta-ILSR

    Greetings,
I'm looking for a mid size ATX case that that has the front usb etc. ports prewired as to work easily with a K7N2 Delta-ILSR mb.  By that I mean I don't have to plug each wire individually (with names that don't match) just a plug that goes on the mb.  My eyesight isn't as sharp so hooking up those one wire at a time is tediuous.  Not to mention the lack of starndards   Does anyone know if this is address on the next rev of mb's (with pcix etc).
    Thanks

    Brazos,
I have yet to see a case that has all the USB wires together, they are all 1 pin at a time. You will find the Antec line of cases very good. (You can always use a magnifying glass to see the pins.) The pin names on the Antec cases are standardized and easy to figure out.
If you want a good case at a cheap price, then go with the SLK3700AMB:
If you want a good high end case, then go with the Sonata:
If weight is an issue, then go with the Super Lanboy:
    Take Care,
    Richard

  • HD Led not working with SATA drives on MSI K7N2 Delta

I noticed the HD led does not work with the SATA drives on my MSI K7N2 Delta ISLR
I confirmed that the led is not burnt out by reconnecting a spare IDE HD with XP on it to IDE 1 and the led worked when there was activity, but it does not work when connected to IDE3 or if the SATA drives are connected to Serial 1 & 2.
Could it be because the motherboard doesn't support and hdd led for the Promise SATA controller.
I had Bios v7.3 and flashed to v7.4 with no luck.
Could a new bios update fix this problem?
    Anybody seen this before?

basically it not wired up so works for no one

  • Substitution with different Case Count

    Hello,
we have a requirement to extend the normal substitution logic.
Assume substitution (Material determination) is setup to ship product A, when nothing is available anymore ship product B.
Normally when ordered is 10 CS of Product A and Material Determination cannot find A, it ships 10 CS of B. So far so good.
Our requirement is that if the 1 CS of product A contains 10 IT, and 1 CS of product B contains 20 ITs to have a logic that only ships as much items as ordered.
So if customer orders 10 CS of A (100 ITs) and there is no stock of material A left we ship 5 CS (100IT) of B.
Furthermore this should happen during delivery creation (availability check). Are there any user exits that may be used for implementing that logic?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

  • Mixing RAM Manufacturers?

My apologies if this has been asked before; I searched the forum but couldn't find anything that answered my question properly. So-called 3rd party Memory is new territory for me.
I'm looking to upgrade the RAM in my iMac at home; it's a late 2006 20" 2.16 C2D.
I was wondering if anybody could tell me if mixing RAM by different manufactures will cause any adverse effects or instability? Of course taking into account that the memory is in perfect working order. Also, what manufacturers available in the U.K are most reputable with regards to stability and useful working life? I work in music production so good RAM and stability is a must.
Currently I am considering a single Crucial 2GB module, mainly because they seem to have a good reputation around the forum and it's very reasonable priced.
    http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=5A5FD16EA5CA7304
I'm also considering buying a further 1GB module (possibly Kingston) soon after should 2.5GB in the computer not be enough.
Lastly; would there be any benefit to buying a second 2GB module (instead of the 1GB)? I know each slot can accept a 2GB stick, but I keep getting conflicting info as to whether 4GB can actually be addressed in the late 2006 white 20" iMac (despite the spec being 3 gigs).
    Cheers.

£32 for one 2GB module! Now I feel seen-off. At the end of November I decided to buy just a 1GB SODIMM as that was £17 versus the £57 they wanted for a 2GB modules. Today I could have bought a full 4GB for £64. Nevermind, I don't actually need that much RAM.
At those prices I'd buy 2GB now and then 2GB later. You'll get to use 3.3GB as den.thed says and because you'll have two modules from the same OEM you'll be sure they will pair up and you'll get the benefit of matched RAM.
I'm also going to re-iterate my usual gripe about Kingston: Kingston Value RAM (slightly more than Crucial) doesn't work in Macs (Kingston themselves told me that). It caused Kernel Panics in my old iMac. If you use Kingston System Specific RAM (about twice the cost of Crucial) it'll work just as well as the Crucial.

  • Cas latency on one 6758

Hello Excuse for my English but I use a translator and I am French I have a MSI i875p néo (6758 in pcb1) since several me and I tested all the left bios.  Currently I have the bios 2.2 Since I have this CM, I noticed after having tested different barettes from memories (to corsair, ocz, adata....) that it is impossible to modify CASE LATENCY whereas the other parameters report can modified and thus the parameters case latency is always that of the SPD what want hard that if I have of the memory with a case latency of 2, I cannot put it in of 2.5 or 3!  Who can me help itself to solve this problem bus MSI FRANCE never answers the mail!!!  Thank you

    hope this makes sense:
il est juste quelque chose qui est erronée avec ce conseil, vous changement biseauté les synchronisations très bien, à moins qu'ils fassent quelque chose vraiment bonne et changent le bios pour faire ainsi.
si vous voulez changer les arrangements, vous serez meilleur outre d'obliger un nouveau conseil plutôt que de d'attendre MSI à fixer le problème, tel qu'un abit maximum 3
    hehe go the translator!

  • K7N2 DELTA-ILSR AND DDR-RAM

I got K7N2 Delta-ILSR, the last bios version, and
2x256 twinmos pc3200 ram. The 50% of the times the computer startes without problems, but the other 50% it gets hang up when I start the computer and the "d-Leds" indicate:" the memory module is damaged or not installed properly".
I know that the ram-modules works, but not with this Motherboard.
I need to get new ram-modules.

  • 2 SDO_GEOM columns with different coord systems

    Hi
I have an intersection (traffic lights, etc.) that when shown on the map is a point and its position is stored as Lat/Long. However, when I zoom in on this intersection I need to be able to bring up a schematic (detailed plan) which will be in some cartesian coords.
My thought is to store the schematic data as a geometry collection in the same table as the rest of the data.
    Is this possible?
And, are there any traps I should be looking for?

You are free to mix geometries with different coordinate systems in a table, as long as all the geometries in a given column of the table have the same coordinate system. This should support what you are trying to do with expanded levels of detail in your point features.

  • Strange phantom restarts on MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR

Just wanted to see if I could get opinions on this. My MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR mobo runs real nice now, but still, on occasion, very rare and intermittently, it will just restart. Not likely a heat issue, as the temps are nice and low. Also, not just happenning when I'm playing a game or anything strenuous. Did it once while checking email, once during install of an MS Office program, and once during a game. Could it be my old Gforce 2 MX 200 video card, as the picture sometimes gets wavy (like fine waves on an ocean), and the old computer it was in did similar things, or is it common with this mobo.
    MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR
    Athlon XP 2500+ Barton
1026 MB Kingston DDR RAM (2x512 Dual)
    Gforce 2 MX 200 AGP 4x
    WD 60 GB 7200 RPM

I had errors on test 4 not 5 with Winbond 2-512 Dual Channel called Hardcore Cooling and they said that getting errors with memtest86 may not mean that the ram is defective, it may not be compatible with the memory comtrol and they had me RMA it back. I also was not able to run the ram stable at there advertized rate of 6 2 2 2 it was only stable at 8 3 3 2.5
I replaced it with OCZ after talking to there Tech support people about compatiblety problems with the Nvidia chipset. Sense I installed the OCZ I only had one ram reboot and when I checked I was running the voltage at 2.5 and OCZ said that I should be running at 2.6. They also said that I could run it up to 2.8 with no worry.
Look on manufactor web site to see what ram timing yours should be running at and what voltage, Auto setting in Bios is not always the best setting.
If it still not stable at manufactor spec than I'd talk to who ever you bought it from about replacing it or refund and buy something thats on the Nvidia compatible list.
Most ram manufactors have a list of motherboards that there ram will work on but sometimes the newer boards like K7N2 or not listed yet as still working that out.
