Mixing UK & US airports on the same network

Hi,
I have a UK-bought airport extreme, I also have a US-bought a time capsule, which I use to extend the network (and also as a wired etherenet hub for my wife's desktop as the airport signal doesn't quite get to her office).
I often notice that devices have problems when both devices are on (most noticabley my PS3). It slows the connection down massively and will cause connection breaks. When I pull the power on the time capsule - happy days!
Is this something I should expect and is there something I can do about it? I'm hoping that the answer isn't buying a new time capsule or airport in the UK.

I think at some point in the past, I must have suspecte something like this, as when I go and look at the settings in the airport utililty, for both devices, the check-box nest to the 5GHz network is un-checked, which I assume means that there is no 5GHz band being broadcast - is that a correct assumption?

Going back to your PS3 issue though, I doubt the PS3 will be using 5ghz.. and I would be very surprised if the TC are linking at 5ghz.
It is really helpful to find out what is actually going on.
What model is the Extreme? TC?
If you are still on Mountain Lion as you have indicated, install the v5 airport utility.. it gives much more info about what is happening via the log area.. something totally devoid in the v6.
I happen to have a US TC Gen4 and an AUS Extreme Gen5 in extend wireless.
So discover the channel being used.. you can use the wireless diagnostics in the computer available via option and click on the wifi icon.
But by joining the 5ghz wireless I can see it is using 149.
Then v5 airport you can open both manual settings at once by double clicking the icon.
On the Wireless Clients tab of the advanced. Log and Statistics area you can see exactly how the two TC are linked and speeds and loads of useful info.
All gone in the v6 utility.
Anyway.. the issue with the PS3 on wireless could simply be the usage being made by the computer or devices on the TC.. particularly if you are running a backup to it over the wireless link.. double hop wireless is not fast.. if the PS3 has swapped to using the TC it will then share the double hop wireless with all the other clients and simply be drowned out by the bandwidth consumption of the wife's computers or yours.
Using a non wireless link would be the best solution.. EOP adapters are very popular in the UK and could work well but the best is to run ethernet and get rid of the problem permanently.

Two AirPorts in the Same Network...

I am using an AirPort Extreme 802.11n and I want to add my OLD Airport Extreme 802.11b/g in another part of the house but I just cannot seem to get them to play together. I also have an AirPort Express currently working quite nicely within the AirPort Extreme 802.11n wireless network. It seems that I should be able to use both the base stations to extend the wireless and wireline services. I just do not see how.
I have looked exhaustively for a solution.
The goal is that one base station (802.11g/n) will have its ethernet port hooked up to a network printer -- wile the other will take on the network fax and disks.

It sounds like you have already set up a WDS between the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) and the AirPort Express Base Station (AX). If that is the case, all you would want to do is add the 802.11b/g AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) as another remote base station in this WDS.

How do I make a wired connection to my Airport Extreme that will share the same network as any wireless connection to it?

Here's the set up.
I have a cable router into the house and then an Airport Extreme connected to it. Everything connects wirelessly to the Airport Extreme apart from one computer in the same room as it, which I wired into the AE with a cable (it's a gaming PC and has no wireless).
How can I get that wired machine to use the same network as all the other wireless devices? When I plug the cable into it, the gaming PC only picks up the network being created by the cable box which I don't use.

There is nothing stopping you connecting to the wireless computers if you have sharing turned on..

I don't quite follow this..
If the cable modem is a router.. the AE must be in bridge mode..
So all routing is handled by the cable modem router.. and the wireless clients will all be in the same IP range as the PC is.. please check that by opening the PC command window and type ipconfig /all
Then go to one of the wireless devices and check that it also has the same IP range.. eg,, 192.168.x.x and same router or gateway address eg 192.168.1.1 and same DNS.. which is the same as the router address..
Then in the command window of the PC use the command ping to see if the other devices respond.. ping it by name or by IPaddress.
If there is no response.. windows has decided it is in a public network.. and slammed up the firewalls.. make sure your network is set as home for location.. and make sure the firewalls .. you can have multiple if you have an internet security package are not blocking local network access.
Also remember PC and Mac in a network can take a bit of fiddling to see each other. But ping should always respond and in both directions.

Since I installed AirPort Express 2 today, I couldn't use Iphone4s/ipad to airplay / mirror onto my Apple TV any more (only shows AirPort Base device).
Do they conflict with each other in the same network?
Anyone knows how to fix?

System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
208.67.222.222

(There may be better or faster DNS numbers in your area, but these should be a good test).
Click OK.
If that doesn't work try changing channels on your Router.

A router signal can not be boosted as all routers put out the maximum allowed by law. However, proper placement of a secondary router will enable it to "repeat" or extend the signal.
An Airport can "extend" the WiFi created by another Airport. It can not extend a non-Apple WiFi. You need TWO Airport units, one to function as the main radio and the other to function as an extender. I used two Express units.

Can I have two time capsules on the same network

Is it possible to have two TC on the same network, I have a 500Gb 1st Gen TC which I have replaced with a 2TB 4th Gen TC but still want to use the 500Gb. Is this possible and how do you set up?

How do you want to use the old one? Is it simply for storing random files? I assume random files right that you wish to access/store/delete/share? If thats the case, just plug it in without connecting to anything.
You simply would connect to it this way - "Finder/Go/Connect to Server/10.0.1.1
You'll need to click the "+" sign after you enter that addy. Or better yet, go into the airport utilty for that device and assign it a special ip addy. That will make it easy to identify. Then follow those same steps. Viola, you will see the device in your finder and access it just like a portable drive but on a network instead.

I've forgotten my wi-fi password for a home network set-up years ago on a Powerbook. I'm now trying to add a new iMac to the same network so I can have 2 hooked up. How can I retrieve my password for the network I created or can I set-up a new one? I did try the latter, but it didn't seem to work on the new iMac for some reason. The password may be stored in your keychain on the system you set up the original PowerBook.
Run KeyChain access in the utilities filder and see if you have a Airport base station password entry, from this you can reveal the password.

Wired and wireless computers on the same network?

Here’s the scenario: I’ve got Verizon FIOS which comes with a modem with four Ethernet ports. I have an Airport Extreme plugged into the modem. There are six macs in the house (three desktops and three laptops) and they can all connect wirelessly although the signal fades in the living room and in my son’s room. I decided to run an Ethernet cable from the modem to the G5 that is in the living room and another one to my son’s room. Everything works fine but the “wired” computers are now no longer on the same network.
(At first I thought it was neat: if I was near the G5 and the signal from the Airport Extreme was weak, I could just hop onto the G5’s network (which has “Internet sharing” via airport enabled) but it’s become a nuisance because we always seem to be needing to change from one network to another: The computer connected to the printers is on Airport Extreme so I can’t print from the G5 unless I change the settings; if we’re in the bedroom connected to the Internet via the AirPort Extreme, we can’t access our iTunes music from the G5 without switching networks.)
I don’t know if there is a solution but it seems there should be.
I’d like to have two computers hard-wired and have all of them be part of the same home network. Is that possible?

The solution is simple. Configure the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) so that the option to distribute IP addresses is DISABLED.
This will disable the AEBS's DHCP server and NAT. The net effect will be that anything connected to the AEBS's WAN port (anything connected to Verizon's router's LAN ports like your Ethernet computers) on the same subnet as the AEBS's LAN and wireless clients.

2 Computers on the same network isn't working anymore

Why can't 2 computers use the same airport? Is there a setting to change so that 2 different computers can use the same network. We were able to do it for year and then just recently something changed. Can anyone guild me? Thanks.

Click the Internet icon
Look for the setting for Connection Sharing
Connection Sharing = Share a public IP address
Click Update to save any changes you have made

It is 802.11g.express. but is set to default by the computer (Macbook Air).
The other is 802.11n. (express)
Extreme is 802.11.g. Is the Main Airport.

in my household i use my devices (Mac, iphone, apple tv, etc) on different floors. if the device support ethernet (ex. apple tv) i use ethernet, because of less radio radiation and more speed.
Often "wake on Lan" for my mac based itunes library not working. The same for itunes wlan syncing and other feature (remote on iphone or connect "computer" on apple tv) . In the most help descriptions i read "the devices have to be in the same network". I tried different configuration:
1) connect my mac via gbit ethernet : problems persists
2) connect my mac via wlan: the problem persists, sometimes it works ,sometimes not. Additional, some application are slow (stream etc.), that normal, because gbit ethernet ping gives <10 ms, wlan ping gives <100 ms.
I "played" with some technical parameters, like radio channel on my airport to reduces possible inferences etc., but no luck
3) connect both ethernet and wlan: the problem seems to be solved, but i "feel" some trouble about the two activated interfaces to the same system (some freeze, who i blame to the double interface, perhaps)
So, what means "in the same network" exactly. Bind to the same hub? in the same WLAN network ? What is the idea behind that? Why not bridging bonjour and wake on lan?

So I cleaned up the ipad completely, installed the latest firmware and reinstalled my apps : no connection.
I tried all things of resets and forgets. No result.
I have been fondling with my Airport Extreme 5 , but that did not help much.
This morning I went to a neighbor , hooked my ipad air on his network, typed the password and the thing all worked fine.
I have tried to connect the ipad air as an ethernet client, but that did not work. „Not enough power“ was the statement

Yes I tried this manyfold. But did not work. Reading on, I took Tesserac's advice. Shut down router and computer.
Start router after 15 minutes and wait another 10 minutes before starting the computer.
Et voila.... everything is back in working order,
