MJB: I cannot get JRE to run in my Ubuntu Hardy installation.

Installation of JRE has been verified. Sites that require JRE say it is not installed but all site tests confirm the installation. A technician in chat says it is installed properly as well but needs to be added to my profile. It was working properly a few days ago but some update changed a setting. I have also attempted to use Chromium as well with the same results. I know this is related to my installation but cannot find a consolidated set of instructions to complete the installation.
I am a new linux user and am still learning. Assistance would be great.

The "restore disk" is built into the Mac. See About Recovery.
Need more specifics about what error messages you got while installing Adobe Flash.
However, you can almost avoid Flash altogether by setting YouTube to play the HTML5 version instead.

I don't know about the sound issue. Might be hardware as you think. Try other headphones to check.

I am reluctant to upgrade OSX from 10.7.5 because I do not want to loose Final Cut Express 4.0.1. Apple Care no longer supports iDVD. I want a version if iDVD that supports Chapter markers as in iDVD 7.?.? that i used with my old (now deceased) Apple Power PC Mac Pro.

iDVD 7 should work fine with 10.7.5. Try this basic troubleshooting fix:
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
3 - launch IDVD and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

There is no auto run in OS X. That's a feature of Windows. If your disc is for Windows then whatever is on it will not work on the Mac unless you are running Windows. Perhaps you should visit the Panasonic site and see if they have an OS X version of the software.

the Intel Core Duo processor is a 32-bit only processor and not capable of 64-bit.
Only the Core 2 Duo and later processors are capable of 64-bit.

Cc2014 loads then closes. cannot get program to run

I did read those tutorial files and the CATALINA_HOME and JAVA_HOME are set correctly- these were set just the same on another computer the other night and it worked fine and ran the first time.
The docbase is pointing to ROOT - as far as i can see in the server.xml file
- i've tried installing it on a newly installed windows 2000 machine- and it won't work on it either- is it maybe something with windows 2000?
i'm using the java sdk 1.4.1 and using tomcat 4.1.24 and windows 2000.

okay george, I'll try to help you
1-download yahoo messenger. save the .dmg file to your desktop or downloads, wherever your downloaded files go. Double click on it after it has downloaded and it should open up. (ah, I see-i checked out the youtube video on how to install it). then read the terms and conditions, click on agree, then drag the app (the smiley face) to the Applications folder (the square, as you call it), then it should copy it to the Applications folder. Then right or control click on the open yahoo messenger .dmg thing, and choose Eject, which should eject it into the trash. You are done installing Yahoo Messenger. click your hard drive icon on the right top of your screen and move to the Applications folder. Yahoo Messenger should be there. If you need quick access to it, or use it a lot, you can drag a copy to the dock....
Why are things so difficult? it's good to be curious, george. Might I suggest booking some time at the Apple store, or if you can afford to, pay for some one-to-one training

Cannot get Bridge to run

I just installed Prod Prem CS6 on my laptop. I cannot get Adobe Bridge to run. I can run After Effects and Photoshop. I tried to start Bridge as an Administrator, but that did not work.
The install was a clean install.

Alan, do you get any error message, while running BR CS6? If so, error screenshot would help.
Could you check if you have multiple Bridge processes running at the same time in Task Manager. If so, end those processes and check again.

RDS and Gateway issues: Cannot get remoteapps to run without opening port 3389 on firewall

I am testing the setup of a small RDweb server to host QuickBooks for some remote sales users (4 users). For the most part, I have everything installed on one virtual server (using 2012r2 "Quick Start" session host deployment with the additional
Licensing and Gateway server roles added to the same server).
Everything works excellent with one exception. External clients cannot launch published apps without having port 3389 open on the firewall, even with the gateway role installed and the 'Deployment Properties' set to use the gateway. They can properly connect
to the RDweb site and view the published apps. The only way it works is open the firewall port (at which time I can disable the gateway or leave it configured and it works either way). Internally, everything works accordingly. I have followed the steps outlined
on many sites and have combed though the forum here to no avail.
Error received (summarized but is a well documented error):
remote desktop can't connect to the remote computer: 1- Your user account is not listed (it actually is) or 2- You might have specified the remote computer in NetBios format . . etc.
This is an existing SBS 2011 environment with additional virtual servers setup to host QuickBooks as outlined below:
Current setup:
Used Quick Start to install Remote Desktop Services in hosted sessions mode
Installed the additional roles for Licensing and Gateway server on same server
Configured wild card public certificates on all four services (Connection Broker(2), Web Access and Gateway)
Configured internal DNS to properly lookup our external FQDN of this server (ex. quickbooks.contoso.com points to quickbooks.contoso.local
One thing I noticed (just now) when I launch a published app and the firewall has port 3389 closed, a dialog box pops up directly after launching the app that warns about running a RemoteApp program and mentions the Remote Computer and the Gateway Server
as both the same (which it is); however, I would have assumed one would have listed the internal server's name while, instead, both are listed as the external FQDN. Either way, internal DNS should still allow it to properly route . . no? I don't know . . I'm
sure I am just missing something in a routing configurations somewhere. The gateway service is not properly looking up the RDweb service and then seeming not routing the encapsulated RDP session through HTTPS. . .. is my guess . .
I was reading about the "set published name" commandlet; however, I am not experiencing a certificate name mismatch; however, the certificate name does show up as *.contoso.com versus the actual name. I may just be grasping as straws now . . :)

Ok, while I was in the server and looking over the BPA scans: "The Remote Desktop Gateway (RD Gateway) server Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate may not have a valid certificate subject name." This may be due to it showing up as *.companyname.com
versus quickbooks.companyname.com. Anyhow. .. on to the list of actions above:
Changed RD RAP from "Select Active Directory" group to "Allow any network resource" and tested with port 3389 closed on firewall:
Worked. Initially it did not as I had used a custom shortcut created from earlier; however, after logging into the RDweb site again, the application loaded fine now (after the RD RAP change)
No error message appeared; however, I did notice that for a split second, the word Error did appear in the browser's tab title, but only very shortly. The app launch does take a bit longer too now (about 10-15 seconds, up from about 4 seconds with the port
open). This, I could care less about so long as we are properly forwarding the traffic through the gateway.
As for log entries, I had spend quite a bit of time in there and only had minor issues with loading user profile setting taking too long and policy settings preventing the redirection of USB devices. Looking again, no issues still. Just a bunch of informational
entries where I would connect before (and disconnect) but only with the port on the firewall open; otherwise, there was not an entry corrolating to when I would receive an error before. Now though, I am connecting after the RD RAP change and logs are showing
connections even with the port closed. These are in "operational", the "admin" log only shows the update to the RD RAP configuration.
Yes, the LAN's DNS server does relay the lookup information for my public FQDN as the local LAN address. No need for a local host record.
I have now added a new rule in our firewall to allow and forward UDP port 3391 traffic to the internal server hosting remote services

I cannot get my IMAC running 10.7.5 to connect to my Nexus 7 tablet via USB cable

I have talked to Google about this problem and they seem pretty clueless. On my third call they claim there is an Apple driver that I lack to allow the Android File Transfer software to work. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I assume this is a bug. Otherwise I think it would be a problem if there
was no way to syntatically or in a stack trace say that the "Exception was
caused by work list task x, etc.."

Evaluation Expired - Cannot get CFBuilder to run

I've been trying everything I can think of, but I just can't get CFBuilder to work
I just keep getting "Evaluation Expired" from the stand-alone installation
Or not working at all with a similar message for the eclipse plug-in.
I'm guessing that I screwed up when I installed and should have removed any old CFBuilder beta/pre-release installations.
But I didn't, and now I can't get the released CFBuilder to run
(and I'm in deep with a deadline for this week, I guess I need to fire-up my old Dreamweaver to get the job done)
The old license key/file/.. must still linger around somewhere. Does anyone know where, and if I can just delete it.
It seems a bit harsh to have to reinstall my machine to make this work, so there must (I hope and pray) be something I can do?
What I've done:
- [Plug-in] Installed the released CFBuilder ontop of an old existing CFBuilder installation
Result: Didn't work!
- [Plug-in] Uninstalled CFBuilder
- [Plug-in] Reinstalled the released CFBuilder
Result: DIdn't work
- [Plug-in] Uninstalled CFBuilder
- [Plug-in] Started with a fresh Eclipse installation
- [Plug-in] Installed CFBuilder
Result: Didn't work
- [Plug-in] Uninstalled CFBuilder
- [Stand-alone] Installed CFBuilder
Result: Didn't work

Which sucks!
I just got a new MBP, fresh install of everything on a brand new OS install and I still got the same issue
1. Installed Eclipse
2. Installed some plugins (Suclipse, GAE, ...)
3. Installed Flash Builder 4 as plugin (60 days trial)
4. Installed CFBuilder
And after restarting eclipse and trying something remotly related to CFBuilder I get the popup, stating that my eval license has expired, and there's no way to get out of this mode. I own 2 licenses of CFBuilder and I can't install any of them.

I cannot get firefox to run after I downloaded it and followed the directions on the download page.

I have downloaded firefox and followed the directions to get it running, i.e.
1. drop the icon into the applications folder.
2. click on the icon to access firefox.
Nothing happens. Browser doesn't open up.
The icon I get after the download is much larger than the typical icon on a Mac.

I tried your suggestion of pressing the shift key while launching Firefox. What happened is, this action highlighted in blue several icons on my desktop including Windows Internet Explorer.It then preceded to open Windows Internet Explorer. It was worth a try. I tried the control key while trying to launch FireFox and that did not do anything.

Cannot get report to run, dataTemplate query issues

Report was running fine until I turned one of my data modules from a SQL Query to a Data Template. I've narrowed it down to the query causing the error(Index: 0, Size: 0????), any ideas what specifically is causing the error? Perhaps the union or decode?
