Mkdirs() doesn't work for creating subdirectories

Hi,
I have the following situation. I can create any directory and it's path from the root of a drive but later on when I want to create a sub directory within that directory it always fails. I was wondering if anyone could help me out on this one. I have tried every way possible that I could think of and every example that I came by on these forums and others, I have even tried creating the new sub directory piece by piece, for example,
//given that file c:\a\b already exists and now I would want to create sub directory c
File test = new File("c:\a");
test = new File(test, "b");
test = new File(test, "c");
test.mkdirs();

Sorry to disagree ejp but from File API for 1.5
mkdirs
public boolean mkdirs( )
Creates the directory named by this abstract pathname, including any necessary but nonexistent parent directories. Note that if this operation fails it may have succeeded in creating some of the necessary parent directories.
Returns:
true if and only if the directory was created, along with all necessary parent directories; false otherwise
Throws:
blah, blah blah
So, according to the API it should create the directory itself as well. And testing it personally has also shown it to be so.

    File a = new File("C:/temp/a/b/c");
    File b = new File("C:/temp/1/2/3/");
    System.out.println(a.mkdirs());
    System.out.println(b.mkdirs());
}Creates both the "c" directory and the "3" directory. I decided to play with a trailing slant at the same time to see if it made a difference.
Can we see the actual code used (and use code tags).
