Mkinitcpio and DSDT hook

Hi,
I'm a bit confused with the [dsdt] hook... If anyone could please kindly help me to clarify...
1. Is the /lib/initcpio/custom.dsdt file only a renamed DSDT.aml or should it be something else...?
2. Then, on the mkinitcpio wiki page, concerning DSDT hook, it's mentioned :
INSTALLATION
Loads a custom acpi dsdt file during boot. Place your custom dsdt file for inclusion at /lib/initcpio/custom.dsdt
RUNTIME
The custom dsdt file is automatically used by the kernel if it is present in initramfs.
Why is it question of initramfs here ? Shouldn't it be initcpio ?

And I don't know if you can call initcpio image as initramfs. Maybe it's something left from the kernel26beyond docs? Anyway, it just works for both...
i only renamed DSDT.aml to /lib/initcpio/custom.dsdt and ran mkinitcpio -g /boot/kernel26-dsdt-custom.img and works well

Mkinitcpio and consolefont hook

Hi there.
I am trying to use font ter-112n in early userspace.
I have tried doing what the wiki says about fonts.
I've set CONSOLEFONT="ter-112n" in /etc/rc.conf
I've rebuilt the kernel image using mkinitcpio -p kernel26
But when I boot up I get something similar to this:
:: Running hook [consolefont]: Error: KDFONTOP: Invalid argument
And then it goes to the arch boot process and before it loads the daemons it says
:: Setting font : [ter-112n] [DONE]
And then the font is set.
Is there any way to fix this?Or am I doing something wrong?

Try using Uni2-Terminus family font (actually, any encoding and size you need -- just look into /usr/share/kbd/consolefonts and pick the one you like best). There should be no problem running successfully mkinitcpio with it. Don't forget putting 'consolefont' as the first entry in the mkinitcpio.conf HOOKS array as well, so that the font gets loaded at the very beginning of the boot process.

Here you can read that your problem has something to do with incorrect font selection. Changing it should fix your problem.

Stock kernel isn't compatible with nvidia-dkms and nvidia-hook?

I'm using linux-ice, linux-lqx and linux-ck kernels with nvidia-dkms and nvidia-hook. Everything is ok, with kde upping.
I've started from stock kernel. During the dkms (or hook, I don't remember) pacman says that nvidia and nvidia(dkms or hook) were incompatible... remove nvidia? I've selected yes
After it, stock kernel don't upps the kde... stays on black screen. Login on tty1, 2 or 3 is possible, with ctrl+alt+F1...F3, but, kde with kernel don't works
no errors appears.
to force stock kernel been compiled by hook, I wait a while, when using the other kernels, and yesterday I did a "Syyu"
new kernel, new linux-headers too... but still blank screen
I only can use stock kernel and Nvidia driver, not dkms/hook installed one?

Ok, i know little about dkms / mkinitcpio hooks , but best option seems to try and build the nividia module manually to get more info.

looks like all the hook does is run dkms install, try running that command manually to get more info.

I just recently got back from iraq and bought a iphone 4 like 4 months ago. I finally got my computer back and I hooked up my phone to the computer to sync and register my phone. I clicked on restore previous settings and now my phone has all my old stuf.

Now all my new pictures, contact, videos, etc, are gone. I have my phone with old stuff from over a year ago. Is there a way for me to get my current stuff back. Did itunes save it somewhere and I dont know how to get it. Please help me out. Let me know if I can get it back or not.

I check sound and do not see anything other than the altec lansing speckers and realtek. Th altec lansings are the default. Help

Welcome to the HP Forums. I understand you are unable to produce audio through an HDMI connection. I apologize for the late response, but I will do my best to assist you. Before anything else, please answer these questions:
1. What is the current computer's operating system? Does the same behaviour occur on multiple operating systems?
2. The title seems to imply that there is no audio when connected to a television, using HDMI. Does this only occur when you connect to a television? Will it occur if you connect to something else using HDMI?
3. Have you tried connecting to a television using VGA or DVI? If so, what are the results?
As an additional suggestion, for now, I would review the television's manual to confirm that everything is correct from the television's standpoint.

I have a Sony DCR-TRV33 camcorder and it hooked to my iMac with the firewire cable but the iMac doesn't seem to recognize the camera. The camera is set to VCR. This particular model is not included in the supported camera list for ilife but seems to be compatible from everything else I have read. Anyone have any ideas as to what to do??

To import from this camera, you need a Firewire cable.
Sony's name for FireWire is i.Link, so that is where you need to plug in.
If you have a relatively new Mac, it will have Firewire 800. You will need a 9 pin to 4 pin Firewire Cable. You can find them inexpensively at www.monoprice.com. If you have an older iMac, it may have Firewire 400 (or it may have both). In this case, you need the 6 pin to 4 pin Firewire cable. Some companies sell adapters that will convert a 6 pin to 4 pin cable to 9 pins. Avoid these. They do not work.

As far as I know catalyst-daemon and catalyst-hook provide the same module so they are in conflict. The difference is that catalyst-daemon uses a daemon at startup to check for a new kernel and compile a new module when needed. Catalyst-hook does the same thing with a hook.
I picked the daemon method and just answered no to replace with -hook or -generator (catalyst-generator also conflicts with the others). Just choose the one you like.

We get our internet from WI FI at our housing development and since hooking up my new time capsule yesterday and started the 2 day back up, I can't get online. Check whether you have latest client RDP installed?
As it seems the issue happens after changing service provider. I would like you to check with internet provider whether there is restriction provided at their end or any port blocked from there end. Please recheck your firewall whether RDP port 3389 is opened.
What’s your client OS version?
Apart when you are trying to take remote desktop please try to use IP address rather than name and check the result.

Portable Home Directories and Login Hooks

We recently switched from Network Home Directories to Portable Home Directories. We used to use login hooks to do all kinds of nifty things to a user's home folder at login, but now it's complicated. I can't figure out at what point in the login+sync process the login hook executes.
If the login hook executes before syncing, then I need to modify the network copy of the home folder, i.e. Network/Servers/servername/.../username. If the login hook executes after syncing, then I need to modify the local copy of the home folder, i.e. /Users/username. Unless I'm mistaken, you can't just use the tilde (~) in the script to denote the path the home folder, so you have to list the path explicitly.
My testing seemed to result in inconsistent behavior. Can anyone give me some guidance?

Thank you for the advice, Syth, but I'm already aware of the basics of writing and implementing login and logout hooks. I wrote a lot of them when we were using Network Home Directories. The root of my question has to do with Portable Home Directories and login hooks.
This is a computer lab environment where every user has their own account, network home folder, and "Mobility" preferences set in Workgroup Manager. When a user logs into a lab computer, syncing kicks in and they work from a local copy of their home folder which then syncs to the server at login and logout.
So the core question is: Do login and logout hooks execute before or after login/logout home syncing occurs?
For example, if a user with a brand new network account, i.e. who doesn't even have a network home yet, logs into a computer, what's the order of events? I would hope it would be:
1) server creates network home
2) computer creates local home, i.e. syncs
3) login hook executes
But my testing has been inconsistent. Anyone have any experience or insights to share?

The Time Capsule is only a router...with a built in hard drive. It does not have a modem built in, so you will need to use a separate modem with your new calbe service.
If the cable provider offers a modem with their service it would be good idea to use that device, as you know that it will be supported by your provider in the event of any Internet connection difficulties.
If the provider does not offer a modem, I am sure that they have a list of compatible modems on their website, or check with customer support for more information.
