ML: No longer one can enlarge icon size in file dialog window (open, save)

There is this useful document preview used for displaying the file icons. This is important when I open PDF and image files. But in the file dialog window (open, save) the is no more the option to enlarge the size of the icons in icon view. Large icons are most import even on opening files, so I get a nice and detailled preview to choose the right file. But especially in the file dialog window the option has gone to set the icon size! What a mess! This makes no sense. Cannot use large icons (previews) where I need them most.

Open a new finder window. Click "View" menu select "Show Status Bar".

Time Machine doesn't erase old backups. That's only done when your Time Machine disk or Time Capsule gets full.
If you want to mean that you have connected the Time Capsule to another Mac to create another Time Machine backup, you should know that the old backup isn't modified, and you can still restore files from that old backup > http://pondini.org/TM/E3.html

Well, you can install Adobe Reader XI - not the version for Windows 8 tablets, but the one for regular PCs. This is just the same in Windows 8 as other systems, and can print. The tablet reader, which also runs on PCs, can't print.

Open file/browse-file dialog window size too small

It seems like the size of the "Open file" and "Browse file"-dialog windows have become too small to use efficiently.
I'm not sure if this is related to the latest updates from testing, but it wasn't like this before. I have to resize the dialog window every time in order to be able to select files and folders.
The changes are not saved across the same session of a program, but it does result in unpredictable behavior in gedit.
If I resize the open file dialog, then close the dialog, then open it again, the changes are sometimes preserved, but not always. Sometimes it's small and sometimes it's resized, and there's no way of telling.
I'm running compiz-fusion and emerald, but the bug is not related to window manager, as it's the same with metacity and openbox. So it's for all GTK programs.
When I try to run gnome-appearance-properties, I get:
"Unable to start the settings manager 'gnome-settings-daemon'.
Without the GNOME settings manager running, some preferences may not take effect. This could indicate a problem with Bonobo, or a non-GNOME (e.g. KDE) settings manager may already be active and conflicting with the GNOME settings manager."
and the problem remains no mather what GTK theme I choose.
Is gnome-settings-daemon responsible for this kind of behavior?

The issue was resolved by updating all to gnome-desktop 2.24 from testing..
Seems like the swedish repository mirrors are a bit left behind..

I can't answer for Internet Explorer but you should be able to export Bookmarks from FireFox. If you can't export from IE you may be able to import from EI to FireFox first.
In FireFox, menu BookMarks>Organize Bookmarks, then in the pane which opens, menu File>Export (that's how it works on Linux so Windows should be broadly similar). The result should be an html file.
You may be able to import this into Safari on your Mac; certainly you should be able to import it into FireFox and perhaps from there to Safari if necessary.

On eBay, when I click "enlarge" for item picture, the new window opens off screen; how can change the default location?

It used to be that when I clicked "enlarge" under the item picture, on items that offer this feature, the new window opened to the left of the screen, which is useful. Now, however, only the left-hand edge of the new window with the enlarged image is visible on the right hand side of my screen and I have to pull it across every time, which gets annoying. I think this started after I created two windows in eBay, one of which was on the right of my screen. Now it seems that the enlarged image window always opens where the second of the two eBay windows was located.

Believe it or not; The answer is found by searching the internet. One solution is to install an application called BlueStacks player which appears to install an Android VM for playing Android apps. I'm sure there are other solutions, but the
BlueStacks player looks exactly like mu Moto G screen. The apps icons are displayed in Windows Explorer with BlueStacks installed.

And vice-versa, just to complement the question. Originally, i can access to the Windows partition and edit some files smoothly, and vice-versa. But since i upgraded my Mac OS from tiger to leopard and reinstalled the window, i can't access to Mac partition while i use windows nor can i edit files in windows partition while i operate leopard I know the Macdrive can partly fix my problem , but i'm wondering if there are any additional ways of fixing the problem. i guess the problem is caused by the different set of format of each partition, what do u guys think?

Can Frame remember size and position of window when it is reopened?

When I re-open the chapters in a book, I want each to open with the same size and position it had when it closed. Frame seems to randomly pick a size and location for each window. In a big book, I can end up with chapters strewn all over. Some are huge, some are small, and they overlap each other.
An exception is chapters that were minimized the last time they were saved, in which case they re-open minimized, which is good behavior.
Any way to tell Frame to remember where the window was last time I was using it?
I'm using FrameMaker 8.0p277, unstructured.

FWIW, I keep the .book file open on the side of the screen and use it to select a chapter to work on. The other chapters are kept minimized. I've found that this is the most efficient way to work and I can bounce between chapters quickly. So I guess I'm using the .book file like the "list of all open files" you mention.
In FM 8, you can see a list of all open files by clicking Windows>More Windows. That shows a list of everything. The biggest problem with that is that it's not in any order that I can discern. If it were in alphabetical order or in the same order as the chapters of my book, it would be more useful.
When I double-click on the name of a chapter, it opens in what seems to be almost a random size and position, which is the cause of my original post.

Pages App, is showing the titles of all my documents but icons are a black and white pages icons and the files won't open, what can I do?

I recently updated iTunes and had several crashes on the next sync with my ipad2. Now when I open the Pages App, all my documents are shown with a black and white Pages icon, the title and date created is there but I cannot open any of the documents I created with this app, I have about 2 months of work I need to be able to open!

It sounds like you are seeing what you should see when you are in the thumbnail view of all of the documents. If none of the files will open when you tap on them, try quitting Pages completely and then restart the iPad and try again.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button

10.6. - file information window - 'open with' (program) can't be adjusted?

... but I am missing a handy feature. Maybe it has been moved somewhere else?
Usually when you click Cmd-I at a file to display it's information window you can adjust with which program that (and optional) other files of that kind should be opened.
I can only see the set program, but not where I can change it...
Maybe somebody has a hint for me?

today, after I had switched off my Mac over night and started it this morning, the 'Open with' dialog offered the pulldown-menu to choose a program as expected (and not only showed one program icon as it did yesterday... (but why didn't it after the installation yesterday/restart?)

Why can't I download large files on Windows 7 in Bootcamp?

I am running Bootcamp on a New iMac running Lion. Everything on the Apple side of my partition works brilliantly. I need Windows to run some old programs which are not available to Mac.
I successfully loaded Windows 7 on Bootcamp after many attempts at downloading the Windows Support files. But now everything works fine until I try to download a file of more than about 2mb. I tried downloading HP printer drivers and Chrome and Firefox, without success. Thinking it must be IE8, I downloaded Firefox onto a Flash drive and installed. The problem still persists in Firefox. I have tried installing a new version of raspppoe.sys as suggested by one internet resource, but to no avail.
When attempting to download in Firefox, one has the useful option of being able to pause and resume a download- so I have successfully downloaded Adobe Reader X (50.2 Mb) but had to pause and resume the download about 200 times. It downloads between 0 and 1.5Mb on each resume session and took over an hour in total. Can anyone help, I’m going nearly mad (my Mrs thinks I have already)
The only conflict I can see is that my isp router settings are for pppoa whereas Windows 7 does not seem to support this protocol, using pppoe instead.

Windows needs about 50GB of room, plus some breathing space.
