ML setup from pen drive question

Hi, I'd like to upgrade a Mac running 10.5 (Leopard) to ML. I've made a setup pendrive. Is it going to work the same way it did with Snow Leopard or do I have to setup Snow Leopard first and then install ML? Any other option?
Thank you

Thank you. It's just a matter of time. The Mac has been restored to factory settings and the default OS was 10.5.
I have the original SL DVD but it's going to take time to upgrade to ML. So when I purchased ML I also made a pendrive setup disk ... "just in case". It usually takes a lot of time to download the latest version and unfortunately 10.5 hasn't got the App store.
So, a clean install should work but an upgrade maybe not... is that correct?
Thank you

  • Running authroware from pen drive

A user wants to run authorware from a pen drive.
I had created a folder for the user, which contains published
    authorware with runtime exe.
I've tested this on my pen drive it seems to work ok, by
copying the folder onto the pen drive. He says he did the same.
This users gets this error: "js32.dll is not a valid image
    for windows"
He's translated this from spanish, so he must be running this
on spanish windows version (if this makes any difference)
    Thanks in advance
    Jon

OBP should place the js32.dll file in the published directory
automatically. It is required. OBP should also place the
    dvd.dll in the
published directory. That one is not required. I find myself
    deleting it
    often.
If you're not using OBP, or OBP is not including that file,
    yes - you
must then include that file on the same level as the
    .exe/runtime manually.
If the thumbdrive has that file but it's not being found,
    likely it's
corrupt (?). Thumbdrives are cool but not super-reliable yet
    (IME).

  • Resuming installation & calling setup from hard drive?

I got the base system installed, but had to stop.  I did take a minute
to reboot & log in as root, and everything seems good.
At this point can I re-start & continue the setup from the hard drive,
or do I need to reboot from the cd again?   If from hard drive, what is
the name and location of 'setup'?
    Thanks.

OK No need to reply, as I checked again and File3 (i.e. Dsik3) is defintely corrupt.

  • Pen Drive Question

    Hello All!
I am looking to buy a new pen drive. I am looking at the 2GB SanDisk (link below) but Best Buy is saying its not compatible with Macs. Could this be because of the software it has on it? I know there is a way to remove it.
    Please help me!!

All of those PC-formatted USB flash memory drives are Mac-compatible, whether indicated or not. The "ReadyBoost" technology is a PC-only feature, and any software that's on the drive can be deleted. If you intend to only use the flash drive with a Mac, you can use OS X's "Disk Utility" to reformat it as a Mac OS volume. If you'll share it between a Mac and a PC, you'll want to leave it formatted as a PC volume. I don't think that the Best Buy sale price for that SanDisk 2 GB drive is such a bargain. Typically, sale prices for these flash drives run about $10/GB, so you'd expect to pay about $20. There's no need to pay more for one with bundled software that you can't/won't use. I've seen 4 GB flash drives on sale for $39.99, so you should check this week's sales at your local electronic, computer, and office supply stores. I prefer the original Memorex TravelDrives, because they were/are very slim and can be inserted into a USB port, right next to another in-use port. Some of the flash drives, like the PNY brand, are too thick to physically fit beside an adjacent USB plug, requiring the use of an extension cable having a narrow plug.

  • Install windows from pen drive, is it possible?

hi. i have a usb 2.0 4gb pendrive. is it possible to install windows on a macbook using it?
if yes does it have to be an image file or just a copy of the files and folders. please advice.

    AceNeerav:
Not possible via USB or any external drive. Boot Camp does not support installation from other than the system's CD/DVD drive.

  • Boot Installation media from USB flash/Pen Drive?

    Hi there,
The hardrive on my X60 died. Died so badly that even Resue and Recovery wouldn't start yet alone Windows (even in safe mode).
I have a new hard drive and installation media en route from Lenovo (laptop was under warranty)
The problem is that the installation media is on CD/DVD and my laptop does not have an optical drive.
    So my questions are:
    1. Can the installation media be installed from a USB Pen/Flash drive? (the BIOS does support USB booting)
    2. Does anyone have experience of this or instructions?
On a side note I find it slightly irritating that even under warranty Lenovo won't supply me software/hardware that will return my laptop to its original state without the user, me, potentially having to buy an external optical drive. The warranty support chap said "you'll just need to buy an external USB optical drive" - *sighs*
    Cheers

    Tnx 4 ur reply RX-8.
I bought the lappie used. It had BIOS ver. 103 when I bought it, so I upgraded to ver. 111 and it kept on booting from pen drives just fine.
A few days after I bought it, the internal HDD failed with S.M.A.R.T. ID 5, something about reallocated sectors count. I got an exact replacement for the dead HDD. When I installed it, I unplugged the lappie's battery, then plugged the battery back in before I buttoned it all up. I think THAT was the start of my USB flash pen drive boot problem.
The new HDD is fine. It passes the HGST Drive Fitness Test with long SMART test, which takes between 2 and 3 hours.
I tried the EC update. Inside the zip file was a TXT file with a link to an MSI page that has a PDF file on how to do the EC update. I had that PDF open on another machine when I did the EC update so I could follow the instructions exactly.
After an F9 on the UEFI screen to restore defaults and an F10 to save the UEFI config, I rebooted and everything seemed OK. I then used a pin to force a reset. For the second time, I unplugged the lappie and waited a few minutes for the EC memory to clear.
I still have the same problem. I can't boot from a USB flash pen drive.
I'm enclosing shots of my USB config with XHCI enabled and disabled. I tried to boot from a pen drive with both XHCI settings. No joy. Will I ever be able to boot from a USB flash pen drive again?
I should also mention that I have a portable HDD with a USB 3 interface that boots just fine on other machines but won't boot on the GS60 Ghost. The LED on the portable HDD comes on and the lappie screen just sits there with a blinking underscore cursor.

  • How to access documents stored in a pen drive or sd card?

    Hi folks,
Is there a way to access docs stored in a pen drive through ipads? I know I can sabe docs using clouds , however, I'm interested also in access docs directly from pen drives. Tks, NivaldoT

A USB pen drive or DS card (using the camera connection kit) can only be used to import photos & videos. Can't be used to export any type of file.

  • I know this is a common question - but is there a way to connect a USB pen drive to the iPad? (See details)

Basically, I just bought a Nexus 7 after growing impatient waiting for the iPad mini.  But the Nexus has a fault, and I'm taking it back next week.  I'm wondering whether to get my money back, or just get another - because it's a pretty good device!
My major big thing about it, is that I can plug a USB pen drive into it with a OTG cable and either just stream pictures, documents or movies - or save them to the Nexus for viewing without a dangly wire to annoy me.  It's great!  However, being an Apple fan - an iPad mini (if it comes out!) would be simpler, because it would sync to iCloud etc.  whereas obviously my Nexus 7 doesn't do this at all.  The only iCloud factor I can access is my mail.  Which isn't a problem, just a prefference.
So, with current iPads - is there a way, without jailbraking the device, to say stream movies to the device through a USB pen drive/external HDD, and save them to the iPad?
I've seen ways on YouTube but thought it was best to ask here.
If this was possible, I'd swap the Nexus for the iPad mini straight away - the Nexus 7 is fantastic!  No problem with it, if it wasn't for iCloud, I'd keep that.
Oh, and as a closing question on the iPad mini/Apple Maps - the Nexus 7 lets you download offline maps, and also you have a GPS which is used even when not on wifi - do you think this will be likely on an iPad mini? I can't see it myself.
It's a sad day for me, when I start to think Google may still have the upperhand on 7" tablets, even after the iPad mini is released.  I might even wait for the Second generation (if it exists!) - just because I for some reason never like first generation things from Apple.
But anyway, that's a lot of questions and info!
    Thanks in advance!

Ok, fair enough.  But since Job's death - Apple's control on leaks has been terrible.  I got the new iPhone, and I like it - but it hasn't made nearly as big as an impression as previous ones.  Because of the vast ammount of leaks.  With the iPad mini leaks, it's 99% sure to come out next week.
Apple uses many manufacturers and it's massive also websites prefer to report on Apple whether true or false because it brings more hits.
Amd by "others" I meant other people on iPads - not other devices/manufacturers.  It's possible to do so, I just want to know how.  I honestly don't think we'll ever be in a Post-PC era until all tablets allow us to use USB in the way computers do.
No, USB is not the future, you missed the memo about cloud and wireless computing?

When youi say Eject, the RAM copy of the Directory is written back to the drive. On a pen drive, this can take several seconds.
If you get too excited and don't wait those few seconds, the directory write will be incomplete, and the drive will lose its integrity or lose files or both.

Have you tried running dosfsck on the device? Of course, be sure that you unmount the usb drive and verify the dev file of the relevant partition.
    Something like:
dosfsck /dev/sdb1 <----replace with correct dev file!!
to see what the problem is and then
    dosfsck -a /dev/sdb1
Of course, I would strongly encourage you to backup all data on the drive first.
