Starting slow... Basic installation and configuration

Let me preface by saying that I took the AM class last year about this time... Between the class materials and the online documentation, though, I'm finding that there isn't a single clear and concise "getting started" document out there. There are a lot of good things available but I'm looking for one doc that walks through the installation & configuration process from top to bottom. The best I've come across is http://www.javapassion.com/handsonlabs/IdentityWebServices/ but that appears to have been written for an older version than what is currently available.
So, I appeal to the community wisdom. Does anybody have or know of a cookbook or howto document that would walk take someone who has never seen Access Manager and walk them through the basic installation and configuration process for a Windows platform? I realize there is a lot more to be done after these steps but that'll come later.

Ever since SAP discontinued the SCM 5.0 Best Practices, I have never seen all the APO building blocks that actually still exist all stored in a single place by SAP. I have to hunt around to find them.

provided you have adequate authority. Most of the building blocks that can be downloaded at the above link have also been published "somewhere" in help.sap.com. Also, you occasionally see a non-RDS BB in help.sap.com. So, when I want to find APO building blocks, and I can't find them under RDS solutions, I go into Help.sap.com and start using the search feature (the "Global search" on the home page, not Trex search).
If in your travels you ever find a 'centralized' repository for all APO BB docs that is publicly available, please publish it in SCN, because I am sure that many SCN readers would find this info valuable.

Thanks for ur reply, I had tried by doing the same settings but it did not worked, below is my current setting of SNC Router, here my SOLMAN Server IP is 192.168.1.135 & my Production Server IP is 192.168.1.84, and when I am using SAP Router string I am able to access all my other servers like Quality, Development or BIW. So I want to restrict those access & want to allow only my Production server. Please help.

PS Generic settings and configuration

Dear all,
I am configuring the PS module for project based industry (ETO).
I have J12 and J214 config guides from SAP building block library describing the generic settings for PS module.
Are these two docs are sufficient to configure entire PS module / settings?
Pl sggest me if any other useful / important doc exists in the similar context.
Rest all other modules are being configured by different module leads.
Pl dont give ref of SAP help as I am already refering to it but it is very general and covers all the scenarios which is canabalizing the things.
The useful answer will be awarded with full marks.

Oracle settings and configuration for PS

I am attempting to install PeopleSoft 9.0 CRM etc on an Oracle database. I have a new PC (IBM T41) 1 GB RAM 1.6MHZ CPU.
I have downloaded Oracle 10x, PS 9.0 apps, Tuxedo, BEA, IIS 6.0.
All, except PS has been installed successfully.
Question: What are the settings in Oracle that need to be configured in order to get PeopleSoft 9.0 running. [I am not a DBA and do not know the specifics to get Oracle configured properly]
Is there anyone out there who is able to guide me, either through documentation or a response to this post?

Network configuration assistant may have created at least two out of the four listed files at your ORACLE_HOME/network/admin directory:
tnsnames.ora
sqlnet.ora
It can configure, if required the listener.ora and ldap.ora files. Same issue at your ORACLE_HOME. It is important to make sure those files are properly located, otherwise you won't be able to connect to your instance, and if required, your listener won't be properly configured.

Required help on ASA basic setup and configuration

I am very very new to Security/Firewall domain, As I have gone through lot of documents and understood there must be one outside interface and atleast one or multiple inside interfaces depends on the requirement. I have attached a high level design, it shows how ASAs tobe connected to Aggre/Dist. Switches and how DMZ are conneccted to ASA via L2 Switches. Could any one help me on this how to configure and what are basic configuration required to eastablish the network and it works. I need two inside networks one is for dmz servers and another one is other servers to be advertise to outside DC.

When you say NK501 that it is a typo and that it should be N5K01 (for nexus 5000 switch 1?)
So if these are nexus switches, and I assume you are looking for active/standby configuration on the ASA for HA. Your configuration would be something like the following if you want full redundancy.

Can Transport Visual Admin Settings and Configuration?

Hi all,
I'm using EP 7.0 and SP13. Due to reinstallation of our server i need to export all the configuration setting of Visual Admin.
Exported all the visual Admin configuration by using Tool-->Export.
while exporting the corresponding zip file automatic stored in the server path C:\usr\sap\Server Instance No\JC00\j2ee\admin\J2EE Engine Configuration.zip
But i dont know how and where to import the J2EE Engine Configuration.zip again into server .
what can i do..

In case you are still looking for an answer, Config Tool Export and Import should be used instead of Visual Admin.

Basics, settings and using iPod

I have a 2G iPod Nano 2nd Gen. I have never registered it with my iTunes.
I have been fine in manually adding music to my iPod and using making recording with Macalley iVoice 3. It froze on me twice using the iVoice but the recordings were just fine. Twice I have tried to install an eBook on the iPod. The first could never finish (I don't remember what it was, a long time ago). Now, loaded the Merriam-Webster dictionary. It finished but at the end It said there was an error. It then made the iPod unable to shut down. I had to reset twice before it was back to normal and the dictionary is now there. it seems all intact, except for the "click for cover page" menu. It does nothing when I click on it.
So, what's the pros and cons of how I've set up (lack of) my iPod vs. doing it the way it's recommended?
Oh, I haven't set up my Mac Mini core2 yet. Can I use the iPod on both? I may need to copy notes, audiobooks, eBooks... from both systems and maybe back and forth. would be nice to do the same with music too.
iPod is current on updates, iTunes is not (v7.5), MacPro is 1 update behind and OS is 10.4.11, Mini is 10.5 and will do all updates when i have time to set it up.

I also received an 8G 3rd Generation nano & cannot get it to work on my itunes. I already had itunes on my computer but it is not connected to any old ipods. I updated it & when I plugged it in, the License agreement came up. I clicked "I agree..." and then hit save and saved it, but then I went to continue with whatever is next and my screen does not allow me to see anything past a certain point. I've tried EVERYTHING & it just won't work, there must be a 'Next' button or something but I can't get to it. Help!!

How can I get the apple configurator to retain a devices settings and apps?

I have an iPhone that already has apps and email settings on it. I want to use the configurator to stop the device being paired with anything else not allow it to connect to any other Macs. I've connected it, backed it up, enabled supervision, then deployed the profile. Through out all of this I never get the option to restore device settings and when I click on edit stored backups, it contains nothing. With supervsion disabled I can restore the backup but, snag is to disallow pairing it needs to be supervised.
Also, am I right in thinking that once it's supervised I can't install any apps directly from the device ?
Sorry if these are really noddy questions :-) I just want to stop the device from being able to connect to or pair with anything other than my mac.

Jpegs can't have transparent areas. Most likely you had layers and were forced to save "as a copy", which means that the image which remains open in PSE is not the jpg. A file saved as a copy makes a copy in the save format, but it's not like save as where you now see the newly saved version instead of the original. The original remains open and unsaved onscreen.

If you are using cable and a Nethear router sounds like from the information you provide before your Airport setting are setup improperly. PPoE is not something a cable service would need to work. Fallow the steps I will provide bellow, I will add some screen shots also to assist if necessary.
1 - Open System Preferences from  (Menu)
2 - Click "Network"
3 - From the Network window you are going to wanna make sure Location is : Automatic and Show is : Airport
4 - Once the Show: Airport is select you should see a window like this, my window is selected for Ethernet simply because I am no longer running Tiger but the window will look the same.
5 - You will want to click on the PPPoE tab and you should see this
6 - You're gonna wanna make sure " connection using PPPoE " is not select, if it is make sure to uncheck this option
7 - Once this is uncheck make sure to click "Apply Now"
8 - You will want to click back on to the "TCP/IP" tab and make sure IPv4 is set to " Using DHCP "
9 - If the option to " Apply Now" is available again please click this
10 - Once this is done go to your Aiport Menu and see if your network is listed and select your network and eneter the password if necessary.
11 - If after these steps you still have issues I would recommend Power Cylcing your Router and Modem for about 5 minutes
12 - Make sure all lights are off when unplugging the Router and the Modem
13 - Some Modems have backup batterys so you may have to push in a tiny button on the back with a pin

I will +1 Pixelan's products. They are great, simple, and have about the best support that I know of. When you explore, say Pixelan's SpiceMaster, dig deeply. Things appear rather mundane, on the surface, but there is so very much power lurking, just below the surface. I could almost imagine a 1000 page manual to cover every possible aspect of that program... Every time that I use it, I learn something new, and wonderful.

It is not about payment of $19.95 (Igalsses) or $7.99(webcam settings). This is a very basic setting that should be available in the system settings. The automatic setting of the internal cam does not work great on low lighting as everyone is aware.
i am just amazed how users take in lying down and suggest solutions such as paying for a 3rd party paid app or improving the lighting in your room.
