MM Period opening
Why do I need to close the previous period for opening new period.
1. Currently I have a situation where we require both the periods to be opened at a same time. for example, our account closing of Fin Year 2011 has not yet closed due to posting of some inventory items. We are now in the process of adjusting these inventory items by posting them in the month of March and April.
So if I will open May period today, it will automatically close the March period. Which is incorrect in my case. And few GRs for May (1st and 2nd May ) also needs to be done.
Thus , Can I keep March, April and May periods open at a same time.
2. in MMPV, there is a option of " Check peiod only". It indicates similar thing. Can anyone guide on this.

Indicator: Check period only
With this option, the period is not closed. The system checks only whether the preconditions exist for closing the period successfully.
Use
You can run the period closing program, for example, as follows:
One or more days before the change in period with the option Check period only
On the day of the change in period with the option Close period only
Compared with the option Check and close period, this reduces the runtime by approximately 50% in each case.
Running the program with the option Check period only does not lock any materials; that is, you can use this option during productive operation.

I want to know what controls period open date and close in FA_DEPRN_PERIODS
table. We have first open period (JAN-02) for year 2002 from '02/27/2002' and
now we have some depriciation transaction for this year (2002) before this
date.
So when we are running Journal Entry Reserve ledger Report for this year then
those transaction are not matching showing up because they are before
'02/27/2002'. So can I update period open date to early date or what is the

Posting to G/L account in Next period & Opening balances
We need to post to G/L accounts for new Company code
1) During month of February , Can we post to GL accounts(FB50) with Posting date in January? --> if we have Period 1,2008 open in OB52 ( FROM Period 1,2008 TO Period 2,2008)
2) Is there a way that Opening balances can be posted to the G/L account other than using FB50/F-02. There are only 10 G/L accounts ,so I don't want to do it programmatically.
Please reply at the earliest.

I will answer your question one by one.
The answer for the first question is, YEs you can have any many periods open as you wish. This you can do in T.Code OB52. In OB52 , You have to give from which period to which period it should be open.
Now coming to the second question. i don't think there is any other way to upload the balanace.

2 posting periods open in OB52
Hi,
I have an issue about posting period. We always keep 2 period open in OB52. For example, currently From period is 9 and To period is 10. I do not know why business keep 2 months open. Then it caused the problem in SD. During Day one of month end (not the first day in calendar), SD batch job (PGI and billing) run and posted in new period which should not. Even though, it is because some variants in SD batch job are wrong. But if the posting period is open only for one month, then we will not have this problem.
Is SAP best practice to keep only one month open in posting period?

I am sorry to say a big 'NO' to your requirement. Consequently, I may not get any marks for this exercise. Even then, we need to face stark fact in our life. As you open the next period in MM, the perious period gets closed. This is how, SAP is restricting the MM period open to two periods only becos SAP says that inconsistencies of data occurs. Moreover, SAP says that they will not support if MM period is opened for more than two periods. Hence, no body venture to open MM period for than two periods.

Material Ledger New Status - 05 "Period Opened Without Stock"

We are thinking of implementing note 1120562 into our system and feel pretty comfortable so far, but I had one question that is stopping me. If I implement this note and it applies the new status so that materials are not selected to run in the material ledger close, will that be an issue when closing next month? I know that previously I was not allowed to close for a material if it had not been closed in the prior month. Has anyone applied this status and had issues?

To see the transactions and documents for ML category in t-code CKM3 report i.e., Beginning Inventory--> choose "Expand sub tree" and choose the corresponding line. I guess these , period status quantities and values entered entries are for New period opening. Whenever the New period is opened, for New materials also, Material Ledger document will be created and updated in Material Price analysis report. The Material ledger records the following categories of data and the system generates ML documents automatically :
01. Beginning Inventory
02. Price change
03. Receipts
04. Other receipts/consumption
05. Cumulative inventory
06. Consumption
Also whenever Price determination for Material Master is changed from 02 to 03 or vice-versa, ML documents will be generated automatically and updates in Material Price Analysis report-t-code-CKM3.

when i run depreciation for the month of Jan 2012 i got error that "Previous year period must be close"
I have closed the previous year periods now the system status is below.
AJAB fiscal year to be closed gave:2011 run in backgroun.
AJRW gave new fiscal year 2012 and run in back ground.
OAAQ showing year 2011.
OB52 periods open only for jan and feb 2012.
Please advise me what else should i do for close Assets Previous year.

Restrict the posting period opening and closing for some users
Dear SAP gurus,
I want to restrict some users to open the posting period and for some users close posting periods. I knew that these can be done through authorization group. Pls explain how to create authorization groups and how to use those? Anybody can help me out?

There are two sets of period in OB52. The first set of "From" and "To" is for the authorised group and second set is for the non authorised group. In the "Authorisation Group" (last column) give some 4 charecters name. Say "FICO".
Now ask the basis to attach the object "FICO" for the users who are authorised say user1, user 2 and user3.
Now in the first set of period you can maintain say 1 2008 to 16 2008 and in the second set 1 2008 to 1 2008.
So except user1,2 and 3, all the others can post only in 1 2008. Whereas users 1,2 and3 can post in all the periods of 2008.

Hi,
we successfully closed MM period via MMPV scheduled background job, though the MM period is opened but still we need to wait from FI to open the new period (S_ALR_87003642 - Open and Close Posting Periods); due to this we have some delayed transaction in the morning.
I want to know if FI can open the new period prior to exact date of the new month e.g. in August 31 afternoon, FI will ran the S_ALR_87003642 to open the September period.
Is there any repercussion to be aware of if we do this?Hi,
You can create a program to update the values in table T001B for opening the new period and closing the old period.
You can then schedule this program via a batch job as periodic run.
(If your are using schedule manager, you can include this OB52 step in that.)

MM period opening/closing in CIN
Dear All,
After go live the users are entering the backlog date of the pervious months.
the data of August is still not complete so the periods are not closed and they want to making entries in Sept.
if we allow back period posting and close the august month and open the sept month, what will be the issues-

any impact on utilisation, excise registers enteries and internal serial number in register
what i see is say somebody is posting excise invoice for the month of august and system has taken the number as 5. say afterwards somebody post for the month of sept. then it will get internal excise number as 6.
so the sequence of excise invoices captured will not remian as per month.
if you can visualise anything more ,for advice will be of great help.

Period open for both the company codes
Hi All,
I have a scenario wherein one company code has been made defunct and its marketing activity have been transfered to another company code which hitherto only takes care of manufacturing. The customers of the defunct company code have been extended to the company code to take care of the marketing activities. Both the company codes are having seperate Posting period variant.
The posting peirod of the defunct company code is closed. But when we do F-31-Outgoing payment to Customer, the system is giving error 'posting in defunct company code not carried out'.
When we tested the same transaction in Sandbox by opening the periods of the defunct company code, the system is not giving error. This is bewildering and remain a mystery. We need to close the period of the defunct company code for ever and at the same time system should not give such error.
Does anybody went through this kind of situation? Please give me your valuable inputs on this.
