MMAPI supported in Palm?

Hi, I am very new to MIDP. But I need to develop a java conduit to synchrnoize data between the Palm Client (Palm OS 5 and with camera) with the desktop.
In the Palm client, I need to let user take photo and then upload it to the desktop. Firstly, I need to organize the photos in a way which make me easy to upload. I found that MMAPI can control the camera of the handheld device. But all the examples are on the mobile phone. I just don't know if Palm supported this?
I am greatly apprepriate if anyone can give me some hints!! I am afraid that I go on the wrong track if it is not supported in the Palm device.
Thanks.
Priscilla

i had the same issue. I just did not use isync. Only certain devices are supported by isync. i have a 755p Palm. The Palm Treo 755p is not supported on the palm Tungsten and Zire families. The Pocket PC is also not supported see http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/.
You must purchase third party software from http://www.markspace.com/missingsync_palmos.php from mark sync for $39.95. Then your palm Treo 755p can sync with ical and mac address book. Then you can publish your ical and address book to .mac (dotmac).
First, I installed the version of Palm that came on the CD with my phone. Then, I installed the latest version of the Palm v 4.2.1 Rev D from the website at http://www.palm.com/us/support/macintosh/macdesk421revd.html#sysreq. Then I did a hot sync to secure my information. Then I purchased and installed the missing palm sync from mark space. Then I hot synced again. I followed the instructions of letting the mac overwrite the handheld for the first sync. So after the sync i had to export my calendar and contacts from palm then import into ical and address book. Then I synced again.
Afterwards, I published to my .mac and selected update automatically. No problems ever since.
PS. I am running Leopard 10.5.1 on the new 24" imac.

  • WINDOWS 8 DID NOT SUPPORT MY PALM ZIRE 72 PROGRAM. LOST ALL DATA.

My new windows 8 computer does not support my Palm Zire 72 software. I had my handheld charged, but unplugged and lost all my data since there was no backup. I have my old hard drive with most of the backup on it. Is there any way I can get this data back. It was YEARS of contacts that I lost. Thanks for your help.

    vhk,
Win 8 does support Palm desktop software for Zire 72.
I have been using it for 3 months with no problems.
If you have 64bit Win 8 you need to download and install the Aceeca driver to HotSync.
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Palm-OS-WinMo-Hardware-and-Software/64-Bit-Windows7-8-8-1-USB-drivers-f...
I have my Windows UAC (User account Control) set to Never Notify.
I set the Palm Desktop/ Properties/Compatibility to  Run this program as administrator
I use the same PD software (4.14e) on Vista, Win 7, and Win 8 ( I HotSync my Zire 72 on all 3 PCs weekly)
When you install the PD software skip check the  internet for updates step.
If you can find your Palm desktop user folder on the old hard drive you might be able to copy it and paste it into the palmOne folder when you have Palm Desktop installed on the Win 8 PC.
User folder path for PD 4.1for XP & Vista is: Computer (C drive)/Program Files/ palmOne/User ID (same as Zire 72 last Hotsync)
User folder path for PD 4.1for Win 7 & 8 is: Computer (C drive)/Program Files (x86)/ palmOne/User ID (same as Zire 72 last Hotsync)
If you had a long user ID on the Zire 72 it will be shortened to 5 or 6 characters in the palmOne folder.

  • Is MIDP for plam fully support the Palm OS 4.0 ??

I am currently doing the research on develop the application using MIDP for Palm.
I decide to buy the m500 which running on Palm OS4.0. May I know whether the Palm OS 4.0 support and fully tested on MIDP application ?
In my design, the PDA will link to the web server by using the Ethernet cradle to exchange the information. This is the way that i think it is efficient to send the HTTP request. Is it possible using the serial cable to send the http request thru the desktop? pls suggest other method.
    Thank in advance ...

Is the MIDP run slow on the Palm OS 3.5 emulator???
izzit faster when running on the device??? Yep, midelts on real device run faser.
How much faster? hard to say, it depends on application
    and your PC.
I have noticed that my midlets run about 7-10 times
faster on PDA than in emulator running on PIII-1GHz-256MBRam
and i always get and pop-up error about
memory while running on the emulator for any midp
sample program.Yep. Same here. POSE shows errors, when midlet uses some
of gui classes (Gauge). However, on real device never had
    those errors.
I have tried different ROM mages, but no luck.
So far, I just press <continue>...

  • Continue Support for PALM Treo PRO Please

It's Like Palm Treo Pro was left out to Dry.  Palm, I have been a Palm customer since your first Treo and I have never seen such a horrible thing to do to your faithfull customers
I suggest Palm to try to have a group work on an WebOS like the pre; For the Treo Pro (who went thru a rapped replacement with the Pre then the Pixi after customers belived in Palm with its last TREO). The Treo Pro, which is a good phone, but with little or no support since it came out.
Make an anauncment for this support or an Upgrade or Recall for those customeres all around the world.
Hey "HP", if your the new owner of Palm then have the Treo Pro as an example of good business with HP treo, have Microsoft upgrade this phone, the Palm Treo Pro W850 to the new Windows Mobile 7 for the Treo Pro.  Hope to here from you soon.

The Treo Pro is a good WinMoPro 6.1 phone. As far as I know, that is all it will ever be.
You can't bring webOS to a the Treo Pro's 320x320 resistive touchscreen; it wouldn't be the same experience at all, even if it worked.
To me, WinMoPro 6.1 feels more productive than WinMo 6.5. If you miss the improved IE, you can improve your web experience with the Skyfire browser, or Opera Mobile. The usefulness of Win7 remains a question mark, but I doubt the Treo Pro satisfies its hardware requirements.

  • Help, taking picture with samsung's mmapi supported phones

    HI:
My midlet run on nokia phones with mmapi suport. but when i run it with samsung phones in emulator, the following error happens
    javax.microedition.media.MediaException: Cannot create a DataSource for: capture://video
    at javax.microedition.media.Manager.createDataSource(Manager.java:635)
    at javax.microedition.media.Manager.createPlayer(Manager.java:467)
I can get little information about sumsung's phones support on mmapi.
samsung's support for developer is disappointing.
i have tried this on almost all phones' emulator, the same error!
    regards

http://www.gnumaniacs.org/bluetooth/dg_java_me_r20a.pdf Since your phone supports both MMAPI (JSR-135) and AMS camera capabilities (JSR-234), have a look at this specification document which may solve the problem.

  • Support with Palm Desktop Software

I looked on youtube, all the people said its possible but didnt tell me how! I pulled up the desktop software, downloaded today. After I hooked up my phone, sync'd, ect. I entered all my contacts on the desktop software. How do i get them on the phone?

Hello, I'm happy that your Hotsync problem is solved.  However, it was WyreNut who has helped you in this thread.
As for the Chinese character issue, I have not  been able to find a solution here or elsewhere, and I don't think that Palm Desktop 6.2.2 supports it.

  • Documents To Go support for Palm Portable Keyboard Shortcuts

I’m using a Palm Tungsten E along with a Palm Wireless Keyboard (IR).
When using an application such as Memos, all the usual Palm Portable Keyboard Shortcuts (cursor movements, etc.) are supported.
When using DataViz Word To Go (Ver. 6.008 (761)), however, none of the usual keyboard shortcuts will function, making document editing (especially corrections and revisions) a total nightmare.
Has anyone else encountered this issue and, if so, how do I resolve it?
Windows XP Pro/SP3 on the desktop.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Their support model (unless you're prepared to fork out more money, I suppose) consists entirely of searching their inadequate knowledgebase; this contain only help articles, not bug reports along these lines.
I've always (and still) thought that the Dataviz knowledgebase was pretty good, and I have almost always found answers to my questions there.
Did you come across this article in your search, which solved the problem I was having with my Palm Universal Wireless Keyboard?  It's a simple matter of disabling the Active Text Field feature.

  • Bluetooth keyboard and support for palm pre

Has anyone heard any word on when and if the palm bluetooth keyboard will be usable on the palm pre.  I have been a palm user since the first device.  I am an attorney and switched from my Treo 650 to the pre.  I love the pre but many of the applications that I used in business with the treo, are now either not supported or not available for the pre.  The two most important of these would be bluetooth keyboard support & memo support and syncing with the pre.  Does anyone have any thoughts?  I have heard no discussion regarding use of the bluetooth keyboard witht the pre.  I also don't understand why any of the current pre sync third party solutions have not addressed the syncing of memos/notes from outlook to the pre.
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

Just bought a Palm Pre Plus (Verizon) and tried to connect it w/ my Palm Bluetooth Keyboard but with no luck. The Pre did find the Bluetooth Keyboard and tried to Pair the two devices, but the pairing failed.  I do hope that Palm allows this pairing to occur, as I won't purchase Word to Go (which has been a mainstay of mine on all my previous Palm devices) until I know that I can use the keyboard.

  • Need Support for Palm Pre Call Waiting

I've had my palm pre for a month about now and notice a number of issues with its call waiting feature that need to be addressed.  Here is the list:
    1) I can't drop 1 call without dropping the other call: this means that if I'm on the phone with person "A" and receive a call from person "B", though I can switch between the two easily enough, I can't end the call between person "A" to talk to person "B".  What's even worse, even if person "A" hangs up, the pre still keeps the call connected until I hang up my phone.  This is a serious issue when you're calling outside of any promotional time, nights, or weekends.
    2) in a conference call, I can't end one conversation without ending both conversation.  So again, if I have both person "A" and person "B" on a call and I connect them through a conference call on my pre, I can't end the conversation with one without ending it with the other.  A real pain in the butt.
I just want to know two things asap since I know this is something that'll take time to resolve (if it can be resolved)
    1) is this a hardware issue or a operating system issue?
    2) does conference calling really kill my minutes the way it look like it does?  I'm leaning toward yes from evidence I have, but I'd like to hear it from the pre reps.
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

    1.  This functionality sometimes works and sometimes it does not.  But can you answer the other part of the post.  The PALM pre give the user no one to drop the other call.  Mine is worse.  If the other user hangs up CONFERENCE is still there; If they hang up I'm not in a CONFERENCE but the PRE does not recognize this state at all.  Therefore you can't add another person to the call again.
    2.  This one does not affect me as much since I have the simply everything plan.  But I would def. pay attentiont my bill and complain to SPRINT every time this occurs.
    3.  HAS ANYONE OPENED A TICKET WITH PALM FOR THE CONFERENCE CALL / CALL WAITING ISSUE?

  • I just wanted to say I am sorry and clarify the situation as it was clarified for me yesterday... Great experience with Palm Customer Support.

I called Sprint yesterday and was treated terribly by tech support because I didn't want to switch devices.  They as much as called me outright stupid for wanting to stay with my Palm Pre.  Even though they agreed that all four phones were broken out of the box and that I was not at fault.  They refused to help on the basis that Palm Pre's were being recalled and no longer would be available at Sprint.  I was so upset that I called Palm immediately and found that to be untrue.  Thankfully.  Despite all the issues I had, I don't believe it was Palm's fault.  I believe the Authorized Retailers were selling refurbished phones as new.  Especially after finding out that my husbands' Samsung Moment had over 400 hours of talk time a week after he bought the phone.  So, after being lied to by Sprint, I called Palm and the Tech's were very helpful and very empathetic and are sending me a replacement phone.  They waived the fee since this is to be my 5th replacement and I was extremely surprised at how helpful they were.
Further, this morning I got a phone call from an unknown number... which I almost didn't answer but I did and it turned out to be a Palm Corporate Customer Service Rep who had read some of my "rants" on here.   He apologized and we talked for a while about the problems I had with R**** $&*** and Sprint.  He then offered to replace the Touchstone I had purchased earlier this month and offered to call me after I receive the replacement and the TS kit to make sure there was no problems... which I believe he will.  SO, I am a person who is very happy with Palm. If I am wrong, I will say I am wrong... especially if my experiences could had given people pause about buying this phone.  I am sorry.  It is truly a great company, who does care about their customers and their opinions.
So, if you do end up being one of the few people who have an issue.  Try Sprint once and if they don't fix the problem... call Palm and they will take care of you.  I got caught up in a cycle of reading other people examples (and who knows how much a situation is exaggerated) and expected to receive horrible service from Palm.  But I didn't and I am glad that I stuck with them.
If anyone reading had a similiar experience from Palm where they went above and beyond the call of duty to restore your faith in the company... please post if you have the time. Thanks again

I am sorry if I didn't explain clearly but Radioshack is the first place I bought my phone from... as an authorized retailer I assumed that if it was new, it wouldn't be broken... but after the first two, I got online and found another story where Radioshack got caught selling a refurb Palm Pre as new.  The guy bought it took it home and it had some defect (that I can't remember) and when he went to Pandora App, he found that the previous owner had signed in and it hadn't been cleared out.  So.... I don't know... but I agree with you because you still see the problem clearly.  Sprint acts as though they are supportive of Palm, but if you have the slightest issue, they throw Palm under the bus and won't back a far superior product.  I do agree that there are some issues with the Palm build, but I think that it has more to do with the owner than anything.  If you have the time and ability to take care with your Pre, then it will probably last longer than someone who just jams the charger in the port or anyone who doesn't baby the phone 97% of the time.  I am sure some people are going to say that you shouldn't have to take sure care with a phone and I agree, but unfortunately that is just the case for now. I have faith that the next webOS device is going to be of a spectacular and solid build quality.  And the rep that called me about the charger kit said some about a future device, I don't know if he was just talking in general or if there is actually a device in the makings but I hope so!
    http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pre/240804-still-my-1st-pre-proud.html#post2368881
I know there was a post on precentral that talked about who was on their first Palm Pre's and the number was surprising high.  I just know that I am still waiting on my replacement from Pre and they could have very easily just grabbed a refurb and threw it in a box to be shipped.  But I was assured that a tech was going to inspect the device before it was sent to me and it was shipped two days after my order.  So, hopefully dealing with Palm rather than Sprint will be the deciding factor that allows me to finally have a great model of the Pre with no prior issues out of the box.  I just hope that there is a new Palm webOS device when I able to upgrade in a year or so.  Above is the link for the forums regarding owners who are still on number one, alot of them launch day Pre's.  Thanks for your response.  Can't wait till Monday
