MMC can't open services.msc
System : Server 2012 Standerd, main system and AD.
Problem: "MMC can't open C:/Windows/System32/services.msc..."
First step:
The first error was due to a file being corrupted message. I escalated the user profile and took control of the file using admin cmd with takeown and icals, both taking full ownership and full access(what a struggle)
Second step:
When trying to launch it from the server management console it now gave me this error MMC.... you require permission from Administrator(the account I am logged in with). Launched an escalated MMC console with the same result(server management console as
well) But when using the component management console it works fine. I tried replacing the file by creating a new services.msc, but is unable to save the file to the directory even after stopping all the services(you require permission from Administrator(the
account I am logged in with)).
Thus the file is not corrupted any more but still can't be accessed using mmc or SMC.
Google it and forum search, with no luck.
Third and final step:
Panic like hell and open a forum chat
HELP please
PS: This all occurred after a power failure. When the machine was booted after the power failure, i received an fatal error on the raid web console about rejected cache on server starup
Hi,
Based on your description, the error is “MMC can’t open C:/Windows/System32/services.msc”, and it gives prompt about requiring permission from administrator when you use server management console.
To troubleshoot this issue, please check if the mmc.exe exists in C:\Windows\System32 folder.
If some files were corrupted, you could try to use sfc /scannow command to restore the corrupted file. Then sfc /scannow command will scan all protected system files, and replace corrupted files with a cached copy that is located in a compressed
folder at %WinDir%\System32\dllcache.
And please check if the event viewer has any related event logs.
For more details about sfc /scannow command, please refer to the following KB article,

Can't open Service Credit Union Web Site
When I go to www.service cu.org, I get the following message: Please upgrade your browser
Your browser is unable to perform strong encryption. For your protection, we require 128 bit encryption in order to secure your banking session.
Please upgrade your browser to Internet Explorer 5.5+ or Netscape Navigator 4.73+
With Safari 2.0 I had no ploblems. Also when I try to watch the NBC Nightly News podcast it doesn't play I get a message that the browser is not compatible. But when I hit the back button the video plays. This all happens since I upgraded to Safari 3.0. HelpI'm having the same problem with service credit union. Is there something I can set up in Safari to get the website to work?

I have just set up Office Web Apps Server in a SharePoint 2013 test environment as per document here:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff431687.aspx
Although I had some issues with Excel Web App at first, I've solved this and excel seems to work ok, However, the Word Web App just sits there spinning and ultimately give the error dialog:
"Sorry, Word Web App can't open this document because the service is busy. Please try again later" The Same link as above has a simple solution :
Did you install Office Web Apps Server on a domain controller? Office Web Apps Server cannot run on a domain controller. Office Web Apps Server must be installed on a separate server that is part of a domain. For more information, see
Software, hardware, and configuration requirements for Office Web Apps Server.
I certainly did not install on a DC - its a standalone server.
ULS Logs are growing by 2K per second even when I am not doing anything on the server.
VERY FRUSTRATED!So after further research we have found the following:
Un-bind and unindstall Web Application Server
Clean Server
Reinstall (by Mistake to the C: Drive)
Bind and Provision
WOW it works!
Un-bind, deprovision, Uninstall, Web Application Server
clean Server
Re-install to the D: Drive
Provision and Bind
wow - it DOES NOT work
Again - repeat the first scenario
and once again IT WORKS
SO Why doesn't it work on the D Drive - We've checked IIS Setting and Permission - there don't seem to be any differences.
SO - Why isn't this working when changing the default installation location, is it just me? Has anyone gotten this working installing to another drive?
Thanks

Services.msc window not opening in Windows Server 2012
Hi,
I have installed Windows Server 2012 on my laptop, when I am typing services.msc in run, the services management window opens and closes immediately and no logs in event viewer.
Same thing happens with Task Manager. I am not able to diagnose this issue.
Kindly suggest.
Ankur SethDid you ever find a fix to this issue?

I'm in syria and they blocked me from using any VPN service please help without VPN i can't open the store help please ( using iphone 5 version 9.1.4 )
There is nothing that anyone here on a user forum can do to help you. If it is a local issue in Syria, then you need to take it up with your phone company or authorities there who have prevented you from using VPN.
Nobody here can help you. -
Can't open up application filter assignment in shared services
Can't open up application filter assignment in shared services, and this applies to all applications in a 9.3 production environment.
It only says "Refer to the Security Guide to configure security permissions for this application. "
And this message is being displayed on a HSS tab named 'Unintegrated Apps'
Can Essbase suddenly switch to from Shared Services security mode to Native mode? Is this the cause?
Edited by: Markus on Aug 9, 2011 1:23 AMI just asked a senior colleague who said, with reference to the HSS-tab named 'unintegrated apps', that it happens that Essbase and shared services become ... 'unintegrated'...
But she could not give any further advice on this issue.

Windows service can not open DB.
Hi,
in 8.1.7 on Win 2003, when I launch oracleservicemyDB in Windows services, it can not open myDB and I have this error in alertlog :
Database mounted in Exclusive Mode.
ORA-1991 signalled during: alter database mount exclusive...
I can connect via sqlplus and issue :
ALTER DATABASE OPEN;
and no problem.
I can SHUTDOWN or STARTUP in sqlplus without any problem. Any idea ?
I have already recreated PWDmyDB.ora file by ORAPWD.
myDB is a clone (by CREATE CONTROLFILE script) of another DB.
Many thanks.Hi,
The oracle service has a setting which defines whether or not the instance is started when the service is started. It's a long time since I've used 8i on Windows, but I believe the command to change the setting went something like this:
oradim.exe -edit -sid <sid> -startmode a
This will configure the service so that next time it is started, it will start the instance (the 'a' means auto).
Cheers,
Andy Barry

'Hi, On opening organiser on Elements 12, I get " Online services could not be initialized. Please reinstall. Press ok to continue without online services" And I can't open Editor. Where do I go to to reinstall and how??
Message was edited by: Taylor CossonWhat computer operating system are you using? If Windows go to:
C:\Users\99jon\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Online Services
Inside the Online Services folder delete the Photoshop Elements 12.0.0 folder.
Re-launch Organizer and OLS should get recreated.
N.B substitute your user name for 99jon. If you can’t find AppData you may first need to enable the showing of hidden system files.
Follow these steps to display hidden files and folders.
Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Under Advanced settings, click Show hidden files and folders, and then click OK. -

I do not know what all started everything. I have been using Mozilla Firefox as my #1, favorite and of course my preferred browser over Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Opera...It is just awesome. Also, I had been using DAP 10 Premium downloader, SpeedBit downloader and converter. Everything to go well for over 1 year. Then all of a sudden, sometime about 2 months ago, I opened my browser, tried to run it so that I may go online. Lo and behold I received a message saying: C:\Program Files\Common Files\SpeedBit\SBUpdate\sbfi32.dll is missing. Try re-installing the program again to correct the problem. Well I did--- probably at least 20 times, but no help, It did not work. Now, I can't even open most of my programs/software because the same message keeps popping up. I personally think that something should be done to those who wrote the program--if they intended something malicious [in] the software--I REALLY NEED HELP!!!
Hello,
Please download and run the following file http://download.speedbit.com/sbw.exe and please let us know if the problem with your browser is solved. (If not, kindly click on the Windows "Start" and type services.msc in the Search field, find "Speedbit Update service" in the opened window and disable it.)
Kind regards,

Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.
You might also consider deleting and reinstalling the programs.

Enumeration of services in services.msc console issue
Hi, I was given a task to allow non-admin users to restart MSSQLSERVER service on
Windows Server 2003 R2 computer which was old core banking database server now used only for finding some archives in SQL databases. I have done the following steps:
Granting permission to start/stop/pause MSSQLSERVER service and dependent SQLSERVERAGENT service to these users using GPO created from old core banking database server on Domain Controller and linked to an OU containing that server
Creating custom .msc console with services snap-in targeting old core banking database server
Deploying that .msc console to these user's desktop using Group Policy Preferences
Granting authenticated users right to enumerate services on server remotely using:
SC sdset scmanager D:(A;;CCLCRPRC;;;AU)(A;;CCLCRPRC;;;IU)(A;;CCLCRPRC;;;SU) (A;;CCLCRPWPRC;;;SY)(A;;KA;;;BA)S:(AU;FA;KA;;;WD)(AU;OIIOFA;GA;;;WD)
When I tested this I noticed that when non-admin user double clicked .msc shorcut from their desktop, services on old core banking database server are listed but
these two SQL services are not there (by the way I noticed that some other system services are not listed, i.e. print spooler). If user logs on locally on server and opens services.mcs console all services are there and user restarts MSSQLSERVER
service and thus SQLSERVERAGENT service successfully.
What is going on here? I do not want users to log on to server using RDP or interactively since only they need is to restart SQL services.
Thanks in advance!
PS: I checked the number of listed services using PowerShell, non-admin user lists only 46 and domain admin user lists 109 services. This is weird! ((Get-Service -ComputerName database_server).Count)Hi,
Based on your description, it seems that standard domain users don’t have enough permissions to open these services. Here, I want to confirm how we granted permissions for
users to open these services. Besides, if we try opening these services as standard users, will we get any error message?
Regarding how to grant users rights to manage services, the following article can be referred to as reference.
How to Grant Users Rights to Manage Services (Start, Stop, Etc.)
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/5752.how-to-grant-users-rights-to-manage-services-start-stop-etc.aspx
Hope it helps.

Can't open iTunes any more?! (after software update)
After the last software update I can't open iTunes any more. Error message: "you can't open the application itunes because it is not supported on this type of mac". how is that possible? does the system really update to a itunes version, I can't run? how stupid is that?
thanks!I think what you are saing is that you have error message free launch failure with iTunes.exe persisting on the processes tab .
If so this is commonly due to a problem with cryptographic services. Here is a diagnostic Method for working out the problem:
Before checking if iTunes works, restart your PC or close the iTunes.exe process with task manager if it is running.
A couple of simple things to try:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1776?viewlocale=en_US
Stop the bonjour service, this FAQ has instructions:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2250?viewlocale=en_US
But usually it is due to a problem with cryptographic services.
Check to see if you have your smart card service and that it is not set to disabled. For some reason iTunes needs it.
Start>>Run>>Services.msc
you should find the smart card service in the list. Report back with your findings.
Malware can interfere with cryptographic services and also prevent a resolution so it is important to check that your system is clean before proceeding: Run a virus and spyware scan with up to date definitions.
Then work through *Method 4* in the following link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798
You should be able to copy and paste the individual lines to save on typing.
Make a careful note of any error messages you get, they are important for diagnosis. Report back any error messages especially the names of any dlls mentioned.
If there are no errors try starting iTunes. -
My iTunes can't open on my windows xp pro at all
I just installed windows xp pro sp2 and i wen to ituens website and downloaded the latest version. At first it was working fine but a couple hours later it wont open at all theres no error message or anything else it will not open at all.I uninstalled and reinstalled it back and rebooted the computer and tried to open it again and still will not open at all.I also removed the ipod plugin and still nothing. Any suggestions because i need to organize my library.
Do you ust see the hourglass briefly when you try to start iTunes, then nothing?
If you open the task manager after trying to start iTunes, do you see iTunes.exe running on the processes tab?
If so you have a special type of launch failure which is often associated with problems with crypographic services in Windows XP. I will give a troubleshooting method which has been quite successful in diagnosing the cause of the problem. You need to work carefully through the various steps and feed back the results of each step, there a re a number of things taht could be causing this.

Hello all. I recently installed SQL Server Express 2014 on my machine. It worked fine for a few days, and then it went down, for some reason. Now I can't start the service. TCP/IP is enabled. I can't tell what's going on here.
Any thoughts?
Knowledge is the only thing that I can give you, and still retain, and we are both better off for it.If you check the windows event viewer it may give you more details about the permissions it's missing or why the logon is failing.
The rights required by SQL Server are set out in this document
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143504.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
If I was to take a guess I'd say you're missing the 'log on as a service right'.
To check this open secpol.msc and navigate "Local Policies" -> "User Rights Assignment" -> "Logon as a Service". You should see the virtual account (under Log On As listed above) in there. If not, add it in.
