MMPV : How to open a previous period MM

Hi,
i have opened a period 06 2008 by Tcode : MMPV (so i have now Mai and June as an opened period) but i need to post something in period 04.
when i try to open April i get an Error.
Please explain me how to open April ?

Thanks for response, i download a note N° 487381 but i don't know how to do before running MMPI or OMSY
i found that in the OSS note :
" implement the attached correction instructions and create SET/GET parameter MMPI_READ_NOTE.The SET/GET parameter belongs to development class MG and should have the following short text:
'Follow the instructions in Note 487381 before initialization '."
Please can anyone help me to undertand how to do?

1) I am facing one problem that one of my asset 123 I Capitalized on 13.09.2006 have deactivated on
14.05.2008. with value of Rs.1.00.000/- all the activities are closed down related it on deactivation date.
In 2009 a new asset 456 purchased with different value. But in T.code OARP in column cumulative acquisition
value it is showing value of Asset 123 instead of it's own capitalization value.
2 ) And about my Asset 123 it is also showing a Cumulative Acquisition value in year 2009 which it
should not display because I have already deactivated that asset. ( The same checked in AR03 )

Hello,
First of all read SAP Note 487381. T-code MMPI. If you don't have a backup or a request saved on development client with the previous period, you may try to modify the record on the table MARV (don't try yourself - discuss with a specialist who know your SAP system). If there isn't any records it won't be a problem!

I have heard its porrible to open alrady closed period in MM in MMPI
But I would like to know your opinion and how exactyl this can be done?we are in 04 period now and user wnats to open period 01

Hello Hana,
It is possible to reopen a previously closed period. However, it isn't
advisable to do because the valuation data of the previous period could
get affected. If you decide to proceed with the process, please review
the documentation of program RMMMINIT (To see this documentation, please
do the following: SE38, RMMMINIT, and select the documentation button
and display).
Take into account the documentation of the program RMMMINIT:
"Caution
Be careful if the period used for initialization precedes the current
period in the control record for the company code since this can result
in an inconsistency between goods movements and material master segments
This is because the stock information in the material master segments is
assigned to the new current period in this case."
Please also review the note 70545 regarding the initialization
process. Although this note is NOT valid for your release, it provides
good information on the use of initialization for correction purposes.
Additionally, please review the note 369637 in this regard as well.
PLEASE FIRST PERFORM THIS IN A TEST/DEVELOPMENT SYSTEM PRIOR TO MOVING
TO PRODUCTION AS YOUR VALUATION DATA FROM PREVIOUS PERIOD WILL BE
AFFECTED. If you are satisfied with the results, then you can move it
to production.

Open a previous period in material master record

I'm working in a test system and current period was closed and so was the next period. So period 3/2008 is closed, period 4/2008 is closed, and now 5/2008 is the current period. I know I can post to the previous period but that doesn't help me because I need to post for 3/2008.
My question is can I reopen 3/2008? If so what is the potiential problems I'll run into if I do?

NOTE: Involve also FICO Consultant and collect all the documents before proceeding.
MMRV: to check which period is open & also set back posting allowed,
MMPV: to open the period.
It is possible to re-open a previously closed period. However, it is NOT advisable to do so because the valuation data of the previous period could be affected.
In general, it is only safe to reopen a previously closed period when no material postings have been done after the period shifting to the new period.If there has already been a posting after the period shifting to the new period, reverting the period back will cause database inconsistencies in the history tables.
If you decide to proceed with this process, you can use the program RMMMINIT, but, please review the documentation of this program first!! and the check the SAP notes 487381 (for the error message that you are receiving) and the 369637 (for an explanation about the inconsistencies that will be generated.
Steps are as below;
Go to Transaction Code SE38
Enter program name RMMMINIT
Execute or press F8 function button
Enter your company code (From and To)
Enter relevant date: Say 01/02/2008 for Feb. 2008 month to be opened as of now
That means, user can post for the month of Jan 2008 as well as Feb. 2008
Refer SAP Note No. 487381 for more details.
As per SAP Notes 487381 ( If the periods are opened in advance in mmpv to again change it to current period the following process should be follow ), Go to Tcode MMPI, then go to menu bar and select system -> user profile->owndata.In that screen , under the parameters tab enter MMPI_READ_NOTE in Parameter ID field and enter, then under short description you will get Initialise period. Next Save.
Again go to MMPI enter company code, period and year and execute.
OR
NOT ADVICEABLE THIS METHOD, ONLY TRY IN SANDBOX NOT IN RUNNING SYSTEM OR TEST SYSTEM1.
Use T.codes:
1.OX18, and delete the plants assigned to your CO.CD and save.
2. Use t.code: OMSY and change the posting period to the one u want and save.
3. Use t.code:OX18 and assign the plants you have deleted in step 1.and save.

How to open a previous browsing session?

Is there a way to open a previous browsing session in Safari?

In the History menu there is an item called "Reopen All Windows From Last Session."
As for a tutorial, it works like Safari for OS X mostly, and like other web browsers. Do you have any specific questions about it?
(Safari 3.2 and 3.2.1 on Windows XP has a habit of freezing up on me though.)

How to open/close MM Periods automatically

Hi all,
The client I am working for wants to open/close the MM period automatically every month.
I know there is a way to schedule a job when it is run every month and opens/closes the MM period automatically.
Can someone give me a hand on this? Does anyone know how to set this up?

Automate the opening of MM periods
How can you automate the monthly opening of MM periods (transaction MMPV - program RMMMPERI) with
SM36?
RMMMPERI accepts a period/year or a date.
If you enter a date the period is derived by it.
1. create a variant and check the attribute 'selection variable' for the parameter date. Then click the button 'Selection variables' and set the current date. Every time this variant is used the parameter DATE is filled with the current date.
2. create a job for RMMMPERI with the variant created in the preceding step. Set it as periodic.
If you're not using a fiscal year variant simply schedule it as monthly (to be executed the first day of the month).
If you are using a fiscal year variant you'd have to define a calendar with only the first day of each period defined as working
day and use it in the periodicity restrictions.
Another possibility:
Write a very simple ABAP which run daily to check if the period has changed and submit RMMMPERI.

Re-open the Previous posting period

hi...
we have closed the posting period for the month of 01-02(april-may) and open the 03-04(june-july)...
but now we want to open the previous posting period i.e. 01-02(april-may) again...so how could we do this..
one solution i have got is that...
1. go to OX18 delete all the assignment for that company code and plant.
2. go to OMSY and change the posting period..
3. go to OX18 and reassign the plant and company code again...
this is the right method to do that..?
will there be any -ive implications if I open the previous period by this procedure..?
or suggest me some other way to do that...

You can open Closed MM periods but be careful because SAP does recommend opening closed MM periods.
Steps are :
1) Tcode MMPI --from Tool Bar select - System - User Profile - Own Data - In parameter Tab Enter "MMPI_READ_NOTE" in parameter Field.
Try to remove assignment of plants from company code.
Now Go to -
T-Code OMSY & Set the required Period.
Re-assign Plants to Company Code & Check whether correct preriod is open thru T-Code - MMRV
Now use T-code - OMWD to Assign Valuation grouping code to Valuation area because the earlier data gets deleted when assignment of Plants was removed.
Use the transaction code OMS2 then select FERT (or any other Material Type used by your company)
Then click on the quantity and value update.
Select your plant or valuation area and put Tick Marks in Value update and Quantity update
Even check this link...Reopening the posting period that was closed
This will definitely reslove your problem.

     Using MMPI, i have faced the message "Follow the instructions in Note 487381 before initialization".
Further i have gone thru this note which specifies two points:
1) The initialization of the posting period to a previous or to any posting period may lead to the loss of the information of the inventory balances of the previous periods.
2) The book value of the current posting period is taken as the basis also for values of the previous period in this case.
   Can you please confirm whether loss of information indicates loss of accounting data or only information. Please provide the details of the consequences with the opening of any previous period.

How to Open and Close Posting Periods in MM

I have opened posting periods for 10/2008 first and by mistake even 11/2008 and 12/2008 using MMPV.
Now when I am trying to do PGI from VL02N, the system says postings are only possible for 11/2008 and 12/2008.
How to close these two periods and default to 10/2008.

This question has been already answered in this forum......
Deatiled process is:
1. Lock all users out of PRD
2. Take snapshot of MB5L for all materials at company code for current and previous periods
3. Add User parameter MMPI_READ_NOTE with value = current date in this format YYYYMMDD
4. Stop all processing that updates inventory values
5. Run t-code MMPI with correct period
6. Run Z_DEl_HIST_ENTRIES program
7. Take MB5L snapshot for all materials at company code fs01 for current and previous periods
8. Validate that values match on MB5L pre-post snapshots or are appropriate.
9. Unlock all users in PRD
10. Remove User parameter MMPI_READ_NOTE from user ID

In OB52 you need to manage open periods related to FI. Any periods which are not managed here implies those periods are closed
Ex: From Period Year To Period Year
04 2008 04 20008
This means 4th Period of 2008 is open and all other periods are closed.
Also you can open and close period seperately for General Ledger and Subledgers
Types A,D,K,M are subledgers and S type is for ledger.
There will be seperate open and close periods for FI,MM and CO modules
FI- OB52
CO-OKP1
MM- MMPV
Assign Points if useful
