/mnt/etc instead of /etc when configing in install

So, I get this really weird problem..
I'm installing ARch on a computer for dual boot use, with ubuntu.
Everything works fine up until the configuration.. The problem here is that that nano is looking for all config files under /mnt/etc/... but they are located under /etc/... and thus, I end up with empty, alternatively unconfigured files. I have looked in the mounted /etc/ and there are config files there.. Is it safe just to edit them with nano in an alternative window or is it a point in editing it in the installer? I suppose i could read /etc/.. to the file under /mnt/etc but what good will that do?
I'm using an old /boot that i mount, and an old SWAP, the / is, ofc, new.
Anybody knows what causes this and what i should do?:o
Edit: Nothing is wrong with the cd I think, successfull installs have been made with the same cd previously, not on dualboot systems though..
Edit 2: Tried to conf using the files under /etc but they don't contain what they should, looks like the second half of  the files has been cut basicly..

Check the wiki and do a manual install or download the latest usb-image. I think this is more or less an issue with older cd isos.
Regarding the manual installation, or semi-manual or whatever feels good to say, this part of the dmraid-wiki might help.

    Did you create a NEW Apple ID or did you change the email address for your OLD Apple ID? This will affect how you update apps in the future.
    Anyway, go to Settings/iTunes&App Stores, log out, then log in with the new ID.

    To what format file are you saving from Audacity?  Although technically AIFF format can save data tags within the file itself I have not found this to always work with all applications.  Likely the information you enter into Audacity is just being saved in the file name.  When you add this file to iTunes, if iTunes cannot find tags it recognizes it will simply add the track with the file name as the track name.  You need to add the tracks to iTunes, then enter the information using File > Get Info for a track or series of tracks,
    Some of the above information may vary slightly depending upon the file format being used.
    It helps when asking questions here to provide as much information at the onset as possible.  We didn't know until this stage that all these menus were in fact part of Audacity and not iTunes.

    Is there a way to make a "folder" on the desktop to store purchased games, etc. instead of the icons taking up space on the desktop...

    Yes.  See p. 39 of the manual... http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/ipad_2_user_guide.pdf

    This has only been a problem with the new update. Help me please!

    Asking for card details is a way of confirming that you are able to buy from that country's store, it doesn't necessarily mean that the card will be charged for the purchase (unless you are trying to gift content or an amount, that can only be done via a credit card) - have you tried entering the card, you should then get the 'none' option so that you can remove it

    I just installed LR CC and am having trouble opening catalogs where I followed the instructions to upgrade.  Just posted a question about it.
    Discovered a problem when I went looking for some images that were not included in the most recent catalog.  After opening up a couple of older ones and upgrading, I went back to the most recent and couldn't opening.  Message says it is not writable.  And also says it may be due to incorrect permissions.  If you have any suggestions for this, I would love to hear them.

  • Solaris 10 resource controls - /etc/system vs /etc/projects

    Can someone please explain to me why, if we set the set the max shared memory segment in the /etc/system file using 'set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=4294967296' we are seeing 800GB instead of 4GB when running 'prctl -n project.max-shm-memory':
    /etc/system:
    * Oracle 10.2.0 parameters
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax = 4294967295
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmin = 1
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmni = 200
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg = 20
    set semsys:seminfo_semmni = 100
    set semsys:seminfo_semmsl = 260
    set semsys:seminfo_semmns = 1024
    set semsys:seminfo_semopm = 100
    set semsys:seminfo_semvmx = 32767
    set rstchown = 0
    * Setting in for Oracle 10 upgrade
    set noexec_user_stack = 1
    With /etc/system populated running prctl produces:
    # /bin/prctl -n project.max-shm-memory -i process $$
    process: 3428: sh
    NAME PRIVILEGE VALUE FLAG ACTION RECIPIENT
    project.max-shm-memory
    privileged 800GB - deny -
    What is setting the maximum size for a shared segment to 800GB when using the /etc/system file to set the parameter?
    If we remove the settings from /etc/system and use the normal default projects settings we get 1/4 of the physical memory, which is what we would expect to see.
    Please note we will be using projects to control resources - I am just curious as to the effect of the /etc/system [set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=4294967296] setting above

    I have since found the answer - the 800GB is coming from shminfo_shmmax multiplied by shminfo_shmmni. This has been confirmed on another system with different values.

    Phillip,
    I agree with you. However, if we take a trip in the "wayback machine" to the big forum changeover (can it really be that long ago?), I was BILL HUNT. Notice that everything is in all caps, because I'd had this one, from the earliest days of Adobe on the Internet. That was what the OS's of the day did.
    The forum changeover happened, and out of almost nowhere, the_wine_snob surfaced. Immediately, I went to change this back to BILL HUNT, or the updated, Bill Hunt. Could not do it. Both names were taken. In 2.5 days? I could not believe this. I had filled in the little info screen, prior to the changeover, with all data - same e-dress, same screen name, etc.. With the fora down for those few days, and me logging in as soon as they came up, how could others get my name? Must be a lot of BILL HUNT's in OZ, or NZ!!! Believe me, I tried. I had never posted to any Adobe forum, even back to the NTTP-only days, as other than BILL HUNT. Gone. Still, I try to sign every post with "Hunt."
    I hear you, but many seemed to get caught in the same "trickbag," as I was.
    At least with this screen name, if I hit a few keys incorrectly, or mis-remember something in a product forum, the readers can "fill in the blanks." Too much wine...
    Hunt

  • [SOLVED] Today's update of /etc/group, /etc/passwd and /etc/gshadow

    Hello,
    During the regular updates I received an update of /etc/groups. I wonder what I should do here, as there are some differences between the old file and the pacnew one. I suppose that when I use the command to add my user to a group, it gets written into this file. So, just recklessly moving the pacnew file in the place of the old one, will mess up all my groups, won't it?
    Then what should I do? All the entries in the pacnew file are also present in the old one, so I guess I could just delete the pacnew one and keep the old one. Am I right?
    EDIT: The same goes to /etc/passwd and /etc/gshadow.

    If you had the uuid user before like me the uuid line in your own files is different from the pacnew file. You have to delete the uuid line near the bottom in your old file. Then insert the new uuid entry including the new number in the place near the top suggested by the pacnew file. Keep the other lines untouched, then save your changes and delete the pacnew files.
    Edit: On a system that has actually been modified from a default install the new files will for sure be different to the old ones.
    Thanks, teateawhy!  I currently have this listed in /etc/passwd:
    uuidd:x:998:998::/:/sbin/nologin
    And this is in the .pacnew file:
    uuidd:x:68:68:uuidd:/:/sbin/nologin
    So, I can just copy the entry from the .pacnew file, overwriting the old entry, right?
    What I don't understand is how the two numbers 998 representing the UID and GID can suddenly change to 68.  Shouldn't they have to correspond with some other reference or list of users/groups...?
    I'm sure it's fine to just replace the entry as you suggested, but I wondered if there was a way to double-check which uid/gid should be used?  It's not that I don't trust you, but I don't fully understand how these group/passwd files work and I'm trying to get my head round it all.

  • [SOLVED] /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow -- pwck shows missing groups

    I recently found out about the pwck and grpck commands to check for errors/inconsistencies in the passwd, group, shadow and gshadow files...  grpck returns no errors, but pwck returns this:
    user 'avahi': no group 84
    user 'postgres': no group 88
    user 'ntp': no group 87
    pwck: no changes
    These are the relevant lines from /etc/passwd:
    avahi:x:84:84:Avahi daemon:/:/bin/false
    postgres:x:88:88:PostgreSQL user:/var/lib/postgres:/bin/bash
    ntp:x:87:87:Network Time Protocol:/var/lib/ntp:/bin/false
    There are lines for those users in /etc/shadow... but...  I'm not sure what I need to do to fix the problem.
    I think I understand enough, now, to maintain the files in future, but would anyone know I can fix this?

    2ManyDogs wrote:I don't know how to fix the errors, but I'm really curious about why you decided to run those commands. Were you having a problem you thought might be ralated to groups and/or passwords? What are groups 84, 97, and 88?
    Ha!  Well... when I started using Arch I really didn't know much about Linux and I an update providing some .pacnew files (/etc/group, gshadow, passwd, shadow) and... well...  I don't know what I did, but I think it was probably not what I should have done(!).  I used grpck in the past and got no errors and it suddenly occurred to me today that there should be an equivalent for checking /etc/passwd... so that's why I just ran the commands now.  Everything seems to be working, however...
    I don't have an entry for groups 84, 87 and 88 in my /etc/group file...  Hmmm...
    I tried running this command to find any files associated with that group, but only get the following:
    [root@i7pc tim]# find / -gid 88
    find: `/run/user/1000/gvfs': Permission denied
    find: `/proc/1806/task/1806/fd/5': No such file or directory
    find: `/proc/1806/task/1806/fdinfo/5': No such file or directory
    find: `/proc/1806/fd/5': No such file or directory
    find: `/proc/1806/fdinfo/5': No such file or directory
    I get similar output for the other groups, so... can I just delete them from /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow?
    I notice I have the avahi package installed, however, and group 84 relates to user 'avahi'... so...  surely I need the avahi user...?

  • [SOLVED] /etc/group or /etc/gshadow are inconsistent, grpck shows " ".

    After updating, pacman said
    ==> Warning: /etc/group or /etc/gshadow are inconsistent.
    but when running grpck there was no output.
    I would guess this means everything is OK. Is this the case?
    In case it matters, these are my /etc/group and /etc/gshadow.

  • [Solved] Questions about /etc/group and /etc/gshadow

    This morning, package filesystem was upgraded to 2015.02-1 and pacnew files were created for /etc/group and /etc/gshadow. I ran diff against my current files, and the differences seem very minor, to me. I need some guidance to understand whether I should implement the pacnew changes.
    The only significant difference I see in the group file is that in my original version, my username is added to the wheel group. This seems correct, to me.
    For gshadow, there is the same difference for wheel. However, there are several entries where my original entry contains an exclamation point, but the new version does not. For example:
    < proc:!::
    > proc:::
    If I run man /etc/gshadow, it does not give me what I understand as a man page, and gives me what appears to be a listing of the stuff in my /etc/gshadow file, instead. Which does not help me.
    So, like I say, I need some guidance on dealing with these pacnew files.
    Tim
    PS - I now see that "man gshadow" gives me an actual man page. Sorry. I am currently studying it.

    After the update to filesystem 2015.02-1 some voices in /etc/gshadow were changed (in the pacnew file) from
    systemd-journal-gateway:!::
    systemd-timesync:!::
    systemd-network:!::
    systemd-bus-proxy:!::
    systemd-resolve:!::
    to
    systemd-journal-gateway:::
    systemd-timesync:::
    systemd-network:::
    systemd-bus-proxy:::
    systemd-resolve:::
    What's the change? Before they had a locked password (the ! sign) and now they haven't?
