Mobile account managed preferences sync rules not applied

Hello everyone!
I am testing out mobile accounts and home sync on a few of the machines I have. My goal is too use mobile accounts as a way to backup small documents. I have many preference and Home sync rules applied to a group. All the machines I have added to this group seem to recognize these rules, but one machine does not. It is syncing folders and file types that I have excluded. I have checked the users managed preferences file and it appears to be correct, yet when I start a sync it does not appear to follow it's own managed preferences.
One thing I should add is that these machines have been using plain old local accounts and I have been migrating them to mobile accounts using this method:
http://www.macenterprise.org/articles/migratingalocalusertoanetworkuser
This method seems to work great except for the fact that the users preferences like the dock don't appear to be carried over.

Did you ever solve this? I have just started testing this in our office as well. It appears I have a machine that does not appear to obey the rules ether. I am also migrating local accounts to mobile accounts.

  • Mobile account setup stops syncing and acts like a network user

Mobile account setup stops syncing and acts like a network user system under ODM
Setup: Mobile laptop users authenticating against an ODM. Every user has a networked home directory on an Xserve. The whole setup is 10.4 (client and server). All systems run a standard image. Most effected systems have been re-imaged since the onset of the issue.
Issue: Some of the users are not syncing properly every time. It is as if the system forgets it is a mobile system and reverts to using the User's network home (instead of saving to /Users and syncing). If the user is effected, the system will not even accept cached credentials if they are off network. This forgetfulness does not seem to follow any pattern and does not effect all of our mobile users.
In mucking about trying to find a cause to this issue I ran across an oddity in all effected systems Netinfo database. The users are each listed twice. Each entry has the same username, short name and UID. Also, In each case one record looks wrong... this varies somewhat from user to user, but in each case there is marked difference in the record's contents. Deleting the incomplete record in Netinfo manager seems to solve the issue (seems, as we are very early in testing this).
Anyone have a clues as to where this double came from? The only lead so far is that it looks like the users having issues pre-date the use of mobile accounts. At some time they all had local accounts that authenticated against the ODM but never synced or had networked home directories. The pool of users who just got laptops (and thus never had a local account) seem unaffected so far.
Also, what is the best way to browse the ODM master to find these duplicates?

I have a similar issue with computers bound to Active Directory. Users occasionally have a problem logging into their computers even though their account is fine. Logging in as Admin and running netinfo manager always shows duplicate user accounts. Deleting the one that says disabled always clears up the issue. I'd like to find a startup script that would delete the disabled account, thus preventing the issue.

  • Mobile Account Login/Logout Sync Not Skipping Inputted Items

I'm running a Leopard Server 10.5.6 Advanced Config ODM.
No matter what I put into the Login & Logout Sync tab underneath "Skip items that match any of the following" it still syncs everything.
I enter "ends with" ".mp3", "mp3" and it still syncs the test MP3s I put onto the desktop for the user.
I ask it to not sync ~/Documents and it still syncs the test documents I put into that folder.

  • Mobile account settings & home sync

I've learned recently that introducing a MacBook into a corporate Windows world is easier said than done, but I've been fairly successful. One problem that has occurred recently (maybe due to a recent update) is that I can no longer access the Mobile account settings in my Accounts preferences. I setup the first MacBook Pro around the first of March. I successfully assigned a networked location as my home folder, and it synced just fine.
Now I've setup a second MacBook Pro today and found that I can't access the Mobile account settings in the Accounts preferences. Going back to my original MacBook Pro, I get the same thing... greyed out. I click on the Home Sync button in the toolbar and I click on "Sync Now" and I get no response. I see that it shows my last Home sync was on 3/4/10.
I don't have an OSX server here, we're using Active Directory on a Win2008 server. No specific rules have been assigned to these machines, but the accounts are Active Directory accounts.
Anyone have an idea why I can't use the home functions? These are new 15" MacBook Pro models with 10.6.3 software.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I got the same problem with our second Mac. But after activating it in: System -> Library -> CoreServices -> Menu Extras and then HomeSync.menu, it became editable.
Does someone know how to change the server folder that the mac will sunc with?

  • Looking for help - Company is going to Mobile Asset Management service that does not support BB - especially BB 10.

    Hello,
I am looking for ideas/help. I currently have a BB Z10 (10.1.0.2039) with Verizon Wireless.  The company has a BB Enterprise Server for older devices (I previously was on that).  I bought a Z10 several months ago and have been connecting to the corporate network through Lotus Traveler. They do not have and will not implement a BB 10 Enterprise Server. Some in IT informed that if the company used the BB software they could manage all devices..... not accepted.
All my contacts, calendar, and company email is funneled to the BB Hub.....
So my company is implementing a Mobile Asset Management Service that I have to sign up for (Airwatch?).  They only support Android and IPhone.
Will future versions of the BB OS support Android Apps.... Soon (I have less than 2 weeks)
I have read where it is possible to put the device in development mode to run Android Apps.  I don't know if that will work with this and have no idea how stable the phone is in that mode. I travel internationally so I don't know how a development mode would work overseas. Any thoughts?
I like my Z10 but will need to switch to keep functionality if I can't find a work around
    Any assistance ????
    Thanks for any help.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
BB10 devices have the ability to run .apk apps via special methods. Development Mode is used only for installing the app...not for normal operation. So you install (side-load) the app in Development Mode, then go back to normal mode for normal operations.
If a .bar file for the .apk app already exists somewhere, you can side load it to the BB10 device and see if it works or not. If there is not yet any .bar file, there is an app called SideSwype that can convert many .apk apps to .bar and install it to your device.
    Good luck!

    Hi welly
I just got a similar issue and possibly found a (really ugly) workaround.
My Mobile Clients do their initial sync fine, also background sync worked as expected. I ran into troubles as soon as I tried to sync manually. And the logout syncs didn't work at all. The issue only occured on third party smb servers, afp currently works fine for me with the same configuration.
Additionally the poor clients desperately try to connect to the network home again and again and again and thus cause a lot of very ugly traffic on the network.
I kind of "solved" this as I realized that other shares from the same server are mounted on the machines as well. I unmounted them with the Finder and suddenly all the syncs worked like a charm..
I'm really curious if this is a newly introduced bug with 10.6.7 or 10.6.6, I had machines with 10.6.5 (or was it 10.6.4?) properly running with mobile accounts in the same setup.
Here are my error messages from system.log

  • Mail Rules not applying to Sent folder

I have rules set up to color code my e-mails. They work fine in all my mailboxes (Inbox, Trash, personal folders), but do not work properly when applied to my 'Sent' folder (the messages all turn orange). What's the problem?
I have Gmail being forwarded to the Apple Mail program using IMAP settings.

there is no problem. Mail rules work on incoming mail only. if you want Mail rules to apply to sent messages you need a 3rd party plugin. MailActOn
    http://www.indev.ca/MailActOn.html
    can do it.

  • Udev rules not applied during bootup

I don't know if this problem is associated with the lates kernel-upgrade to 2.6.21 but I didn't have it before.
    My problem:
I have an external USB-harddrive that gets mounted everytime I boot because it is listed in my fstab. To avoid confusion with other external storages (such as USB-sticks etc.) I worte an udev rule for it:
    # Externe USB-Festplatte von TrekStor
    BUS=="usb", KERNEL=="sd?1" SYSFS{serial}=="307541703010",SYMLINK+="externe"
As I've said this worked well before but now I get a message during the booting process saying that /dev/externe couldn't be found. But it actually IS recognised by udev. I just have to do a
    mount -a
after the booting process and everything works again.
Does anyone have an idea what the problem could be? It seems to me that all the devices listed in fstab get mounted before the udev rules are applied.

Ok, I solved my problem: I'm not mounting my USB-HD through fstab anymore. I'm using udev-rules as described here.
Still I'd be interesting to know what went wrong.

  • Rewriter rules not applied

    Hi,
I have a rewriter ruleset and two gateways. For one of the two gateways this ruleset is applied correctly, for the some rules of it are not applied.
The rulesets are applied to the same uri and the gateways have the same configuration.
We are using 3040 rulesets in total.
This smells like a bug. Any suggestion someone?

The problem I have is the following rules:
    <Function name="fetcher.open" paramPatterns=",y," />
    <Function name="xml*ttp.open" paramPatterns=",y,"/>
         <!--
window.open could be either called using open or window.open(),
make sure that this rule does not overlap with MS XML API's XMLHTTP.open().
    -->
    <Function name="open" paramPatterns="y"/>
    <Function name="*.open" paramPatterns="y"/>
Now, when we have this applied to a file on the right url which contains fetcher.open(1,2,3), it should rewrite the second parameter, but it is rewriting the first one.
Does anybody know about the order or specificness of the rules applied in the case above?
    Best regards,
    Tim

  • 10.5 portable home sync rules not being respected on the client...

Portable home syncing is working great for me on my Tiger server and clients, and I'm an old hat at Apple server and OD.... However in my test environment for 10.5, my client machines reuse to respect the rules that I've set in 10.5 Server Workgroup Manager for portable home syncing. I was hoping 10.5.2 would fix this for me, but no luck....
I can tell that the clients are bound to the OD and are reading the MCX settings from the server, because I can change the sync time interval, and that is being reflected on the client. WGM is set to NOT allow settings to be merged with user's settings, so I can eliminate the client settings as a variable.
Both Login/Logout and background sync are effected by this problem.
Is anyone else having this issue?

Bruce's solution above does indeed work. However, I must have stared at his answer for 20 minutes trying to figure out what he was talking about. Undoubtedly, my inability to initially parse his solution comes from my more basic understanding of OS X Server. Since there are likely others out there with this same Home Sync problem and my same level of experience with OS X Server I wanted to give Bruce's answer again but with more detail.
The problem, as explained by the original post, is that Home Sync settings for a user or group aren't necessarily respected. For example, if I were to open Workgroup Manager (WGM), select myself as a user (Berylium), click Preferences, select Mobility from the Overview tab, and select the Rules tab I would be in the Home Sync preferences. If I tell the Login & Logout Sync tab to Always do what I select and then I uncheck the Sync at login and logout checkbox one would expect that when I log in or log out I would not see a Home Sync dialog popup and perform a sync operation - but I did.
The issue as Bruce explains occurs because of another setting I have enabled, Background Sync, and a quirk (bug?) in Leopard Server. I have Background Sync enabled, set to Always, and told to sync in the background my ~/Documents and ~/Desktop folders. Leopard Server, it seems, performs the following operation when I login or logout:
    1. Is Login & Logout Sync enabled? No, ok skip this part.
    2. Is Background Sync enabled? Yes! Ok, sync the background sync items now even though this is a login or log out.
Clever, Apple. Ok, now that the problem has been explained let's get to the solution.
    1. Open WGM, select your problem user or group, click Preferences, and select the Details tab
    2. Click the +, navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices/, select ManagedClient, and click Add
    - At this point, at least in my installation, several more items appeared in the preference editor list.
    3. Select Home Sync in the preference editor list then click the Edit button (looks like a pencil)
    4. Expand the Always list item
    - Obviously, this is where some people's solution could begin to differ from mine. You may want to edit items in the Once or Often list items.
    5. Click the New Key button, a New Item will be created and selected, click New Item and select Sync Background Set During Login from the list.
    6. Change the Value item for Sync Background Set During Login from automatic to dontSync
    7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 but select Sync Background Set During Logout
    8. Click Apply Now followed by Done
Now you should be all set. Thank you Bruce for the solution to this problem and I hope someone else finds my more detailed explanation helpful.

  • Mobile account can't sync on the server itself

This should be a super simple lion server setup:  1 iMac running Lion Server with a set of network accounts, and 1 Mac Mini (running Lion) bound to the OD master running on the iMac.   The iMac hosts the OD master and the network accounts.   I'd like users to be able to use both the iMac  and the Mini with the same accounts (mobile or network), but setting the Home directory correctly in Server.app is driving me nuts:
If I set the the home folder to "Local only" (equivalent to setting the home path to /Users in Workgroup Manager), the users can log in to the Server with no problems, but don't have access to their files on the Mini.  Authentication is fine, they just don't access the correct network home directories.
If I set the home folder to "Users" (equivalent to setting the Home URL to afp://iMac.private/Users/username and the Full Path to:  /Network/Servers/iMac.private/Users/username in Workgroup Manager), they can log in to the Mini, but home sync on the server gives this error:
There was a problem connecting to the server "iMac.private".
This file server is available on your computer.  Access the volumes and files locally.
And then the home sync fails.
So, what's the solution?   Do I need to make a fake path on the server that looks like a network mount?

When you're on the Mac mini can you Ping or access the iMac server with "iMac.private"?
Does DNS running fine on the Server? Is the Server set as the DNS server on the client?
What is the output from "sudo changeip -checkhostname" on the Server in Terminal.app?
    Sound's like the Mac mini couldn't resolve the iMac's DNS-name "iMac.private".

  • BB 8330 Media Manager, Media Sync hanging - not connecting...

(I just know this is treated in depth somewhere but after a couple of hours of searching, I can't find it so appologies in advance...)
I have a BB 8330 from Verizon running v4.5.0.77 - no media card.
    Using Device Manager, the:
    Driver version is: 4.1.0.4
Driver Node Strong Name is: oem25.inf:RIM:RimUsb.Device.NT:4.1.0.4:usb\vid_0fca&pid_8004&mi_00
Windows thinks the driver is up to date.
    I am running  Desktop Manager v4.7.0.32[Nov 4 2008]
When I launch DM, I can successfully Back up my BB.
On my Vista PC - When I attempt to launch  Media Manager 9, it has found the files in the Library but it goes into a wierd loop where it keeps seeing the F: drive and then removes it and then resets and then sees it again - forever (or at least for the day that I left it in that loop)
I loaded the DM on another PC running XP and observe a similar behavior - it's not quite as zippy so it just looks more like a hang
To try something different, I downloaded Media Sync v2.0.0.22 and, when the BB is connected, I get the error: "BlackBerry Media Sync failed to connect to your BlackBerry device. Click Retry to try again or Cancel to disconnect." - I get the same error with and without the DM running.
Something seems sort of hinky in that, while my BB is plugged in on my Vista system, occassionall I get the lights flashing on my keyboard like someting is resetting the USB every few minutes (unrelated Vista crap?).
    Please help...

You are going to want to get a media card if planning to add music-ringtones-pictures-videos.  Don't want to use up device memory.  It'll go fast.

  • Preview Color Management broken? Profile not applied?

    Hi all,
I've come upon an inconsistency and wondered if anyone else is having this issue?
I profiled my Xerox Color Laser Printer. When I print out of Photoshop CS 4 my prints look great.
If I print out of Preview (Mac OS X 7.5), the colors are not correct and the In Printer color management prints match the ColorSync Color Managed with my new custom profile selected prints? I tried turning on the soft proofing, and the screen image in Preview looks amazingly like my successful Photoshop Color Managed Print, but when I print, the image appears as if the printer profile is not being applied. FYI, this profile is an ICC v2 Profile.
As I noted prints out of Photoshop are accurate and just fine.
    Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, and so long for now, TOM

Thanks for the reply Richard. I indeed tried the latest driver, 91.31. The new control panel was quite confusing. I managed to get to the performance and quality place, but there was no way to set a color profile to a specific game, so keeping the same drivers, I went back to the classic control panel. Color profiles can't seem to be applied for game profiles, as the value in the profile switches to a "0" every time I hit apply (read that some other guy on the nZone forums had the same issues). So as of now, I just use the 84.21 drivers and set the color profile manually in the taskbar.
By the way, does anyone else here set color profiles in their game profiles? If so, how's the experience?

    Exch2007 sp3

If this mailbox is what is stopping the cmd from completing, is there a parameter to skip bad mailboxes?
     Thanks!

    Hi,
What's the error/warning of that corrupted mailbox? Since it’s a corrupted mailbox, I suggest to disable this mailbox then run command to apply managed folder mailbox policy.
In addition, just set the policy on DB isn’t enough to see the effects in user’s Outlook. To do this we need to schedule the managed folder assistant to run on a mailbox server
    For EMC:
“Server Configuration”->”Mailbox”->locate related mailbox role and right-click it->choose “Properties”
In the “Messaging Records Management” tab->set the running schedule
    For EMS:
    Start-ManagedFolderAssistant
