Mobile accounts not syncing at logout

Hi guys,
We are experiencing some synchronisation issues when attempting to use mobile accounts for the first time at our school.
Synchronisation is only occurring at login and not at logout even though all options are selected under Rules>Home Sync in group preferences. Manual and scheduled syncing works ok.
Points to note:
User accounts are hosted in AD with OD supplying managed preferences.
Home directories are stored on the mac server (Windows domain member) and shared/automounted via AFP.
The mac clients and server are running 10.6 and are fully up-to-date.
Has anyone experienced this issue before?

Hi guys,
We've managed to get sync at logout working. Here's how:
-Add "/System/Library/CoreServices/ManagedClient.app" into the WGM Group Preferences Details tab.
-This adds additional preference manifests, one of them being "Home Sync".
-Modify the "Home Sync", "Always" settings by adding any item to the "Managed Preference Sync Items" array. We added the path to some necessary email config files stored in ~/Library.
Doing these steps, for some reason, enabled syncing at logout. Hopefully it'll work for you too.

  • Deleted items reappear on mobile account with syncing?

On a mobile account with syncing, deleted items will reappear after syncing. One can manually do a full sync. Then delete stuff. Then do a full manual sync again and the deleted items are back.
This is on Leopard 10.5.6 client and Leopard 10.5.6 server.
Open to ideas one what I ought to look at.
    Best Wishes,
    Paul

    Paul,
I'm happy I'm not alone (sorry..)
I have exactly the same problem, although I'm using Linux server, not OSX.
It all worked nicely until 10.5.6 upgrade, after that I'm having lots of home sync problems, including:
    1. locally deleted items re-appear after sync
    2. a lot of sync conflicts, specially when sync cannot resolve latest file or directory version between mobile and network copy (and mobile copy will be always the latest one)
    3. huge syncs even if no data has been modified, ie:
I'm syncing all on login and logout, background sync is disabled.
I do login then straight away logout, so practically no data has been modified, but the sync may show me tens of GB being transferred.
Now, this is weird: I've done tests on a freshly created mobile account, with approx 50MB of data. Basically I've logged in and out repeatedly, sometimes modifying small files. Some of the syncs showed me transfer of 60MB!!! That's 10MB more than the size of the home directory!
I've looked through release notes for 10.5.6 and some sync issues were 'fixed'. I'm wondering if other ones were introduced...
As I've said, it all worked perfectly until the latest update - I have many machines behaving in the same, bad way.
    Perhaps someone has a solution?
    Thanks,
    Pawel

  • Lightroom mobile does not sync in Yosemite os

Lightroom Mobile does not sync after the Yosemite upgrade. It looks like it wants to but nothing happens?
    Thanks.

Could you try to remove the sync.lrdata file and restart Lr Desktop. This would restart/refresh the sync (metadata only).
Removing the Sync.lrdata might fix whatever the issue is.  Or, at least, might trigger it to occur again. So remove the Sync.lrdata, start Lr, and then wait until it either syncs or gets stuck again and create at this point a Lr desktop diagnostic log which can hopefully provide some clues.
You can find the  sync.lrdata file here:
    On Mac it's at /Users/<user>/Library/Caches/Adobe/Lightroom/Sync Data/Sync.lrdata
Please send me the LR Desktop diagnostig log  - best as a private message with a downloadable dropbox link.
You can trigger the log via LR Desktop preferences -> Lightroom Mobile and when you hold down the alt key you will notice a generate diagnostic log button
    Thanks

  • Mobile Accounts: Manual Sync works, Automated Sync Does Not

I've got a small office network with about 10 users. Each have mobile accounts under Tiger (server and clients) and they've been working flawlessly for years.
All of a sudden we've noticed that for some users the background sync is no longer working. If they choose "Sync Home Now" from the menu the sync runs else. Otherwise, it does not run at all.
All background syncing is set (via WGM) to run every 30 minutes.
What is the best way to debug this?
    Thanks!

if you configure mobile prefs to popup a dialog to confirm creating a mobile account on new machines, train them to choose "no," and they'll login with network homes on other machines.

  • Mobile Account: Home Sync over VPN

    Hi,
We 're now setting-up our mobile accounts to be used with laptops across several locations. Our servers will soon be moved to a datacenter. Before we do this, we're testing different functionalities. For instance there is a requirement to sync iOS devices with ITunes on two different laptops of the same user (manager).
To be honest we've encountered several issues. We had to delete the mobile accounts both on server / client, as well as to Remove/Enrol again the laptops. However the most important problem we have is the syncing speed. In our setup we have the servers behind a SRX240 firewall. When the clients are connected on the SRX240 (acting as router as well) we have acceptable speed. What we can't understand is why the speed is reduced (say 4 times) when we do the same across the VPN over WiFi. We're supposed to have a GBit Wi-Fi LAN. Would you have any ideas why the speed is so slow?
    Thank you and best regads
    D.
P.S. We run Yosemite on all servers / clients. We noted that Lion clients were incompatible with Yosemite server in that respect, anyway.

Create an OD replica at the remote site, which is easy to do in the OD service settings.
A network user is automatically converted to a mobile user on a portable Mac at the first login. On a desktop Mac, the conversion is optional. If the conversion is declined and the user opts not to be prompted again, the setting can be undone as follows:
    sudo defaults delete /Library/Preferences/com.apple.MCX MobileAccountNeverAsk-username
(substituting the short user name for the string username.)

  • Mobile Account Home Sync Duplicate Files

We use profile manager, with an OSX mobility profile with home sync, for management of our OSX devices, combined with AD sign on with "create a mobile account on sign on.
For many of our users, they are experiencing files are duplicating with .network extension on the end, and that deleted files are being re-synced back to their device.
Setting the keep most recent option with the sync conflicts appears to fix the .network file issue, but the returning of deleted documents, appears to be repeat occurring.
I haven't found any documentation regarding the issue on how to resolve it, and I am currently in the process of trying to replicate the issue myself.
Is there a work around or fix to this issue?
Appears to be happening across different versions of OSX. 10.8 - 10.10

Hi, the only workaround I know of, is to uncheck the library folder from syncing, ANYTHING running live while the home folder is syincing (MS office for example, it's DB is in your docs folder, will cause a sync error, as well as iphoto.. etc.. the only other way to fix this, is to set it to sync manually at login & logout. I wish my issues were that easy

  • Mobile Accounts not copying home folders to local machine

Having recently upgraded my MacBook to 10.5 (and having a 10.5 server) I have noticed an error with mobile accounts. My account has not synced for a couple of weeks and I have checked all the directory settings and cannot see any errors.
I've removed all directory services and rebooted, put them back and it will create a mobile account but nothing is being copied to the local hdd. So basically it is functioning like a network account rather than a mobile one.
This works fine on our 10.4 clients but having tried different users on my 10.5 system it does the same....creates the account, mounts the server but does nothing else.
This means when you sync it says its complete but does nothing...its like its lost permissions to the folder on the server but that seems very odd.
Anyone else had issues with 10.5? We have an AD server with our users and a 10.5 server with OD replicating AD and holding the home folders.

Are you still ahving this issue?
Would you do like geekinit in this thread and post some partial screen grabs (although is problem included Windows server Active Directory and profile Manager which I will get up to soon.)
Unable to deploy home folder mobility settings through an Apple MDM server
Did you create a fileshare for Local Network accounts to put their stuff
If so where is OS X server?
Did you tell the user in OD to use that fileshare?

  • Setting up mobile accounts to delete after logout issues

Running a network with about 2,000 users. Due to the amount of time to login the sever at each workstation we set up about half of them to sync and to be mobile account within workgroup manager. We have the settings as followed for the sync....
create mobile account when users log in
and making network home and default sync setting.
delete mobile account after 0 hours (originally set to 5 days)
    delete only after successful sync
for the rules we are using preference sync always, but not in background. Same for home sync rule.
So at first the users were logging in very fast and working great, the 1st 3 or 4 days we set up the delete mobile accounts to delete in 5 days. 2 days later we changed it to 0. in that time being about 300+ users logged in with the setting set to 5 .about 1 week later after changing the account expiry from 5 days to 0 hours most users started to get sync errors (from 10, 200+ errors) we looked into it a bit and noticed that under root/users...the users home directory were not being deleted fully, the entire folder is suppose to be deleted but instead it was only deleting downloads, pictures, videos ect, and it was leaving about 3 folders within its home. (documents, desktop and something else)
we noticed once that happened to a user, when they would to log out and try to log into the same work startion we would get an error stating
"unable to create mobile account, there was a problem while creating or accessing /user (then says users name)"
This issue is due to that work group manager is not fully deleting the synced account. If we go in as root and deleted the users home in HD/users, they user was able to log back in with no problem and it recreates its mobile home and works perfectly.
but as of now we have a hand full of users with this issue. please advise.
we are using workgroup manager version (10.6 ) 361.1.1

  • Mobile accounts lengthy sync

I run lion server hosted on a mac mini. There are two macs in the house and 4 users access either at different times.
I set up the user accounts as mobile thinking that this was required as any user may access either mac.
Currently I am getting grief from the users as the sync process (checking, downloading, finishing) takes sometimes up to 10 minutes. Note that the checking part of the process seems to take the largest portion of the sync time.
I am now asking myself the question of whether they needed to be mobile in the first place.
If not how can I revert the accounts back to a non-mobile user account. (note: it appears by simply de-selecting all the mobility options in the server workgroup tools does not stop the syncing.
    Thanks in advance.

A year old, but it sounds like your users have A LOT of information. Probably pictures/movies/music.
The more of that they have (especially iPhoto pictures) the longer it is going to take to check.
You can go in to mobile sync preferences (inside accounts system preference) and deselect those folders from syncing (but they will only have access to those files on one computer), or save them off to an external device and delete them from the computers/server.

  • Active Directory Mobile Account not working

Hello all. I've successfully joined a few macs to an Active Directory domain. However, I have a laptop that needs to be able to authenticate even when away from the network. The "Create Mobile Account" checkbox seems perfect for the job. From my reading, it seems that it is supposed to cache login authentication info from network login users. Then when the computer doesn't have a network connection, it uses the cached credentials. Upon 1st login it asks if I want to create a mobile account, and I say yes. However, it doesn't work accross a reboot.
If I reboot the computer without an network connection, and then try to authenticate at the login screen with my network user, the password field "shakes" as if I got it wrong.
However, I know it is sorta working because if I type >console into the user field, I get dumped to the console, where I can successfully login using the network user's credentials. Even without a network connection. But not from the gui login screen.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Abbas,
You can find active directory synchronization option under PWA settings >> Operation Policies
1.In Project Web App, click the Settings icon, and then click Project Web App Settings.
2.On the Project Web App Server Settings page, in the Operational Policies section, click Active Directory Resource Pool Synchronization
    3. On this page, you need to enter the Active directory Group which contains the users you want to sync and then click on save and synchronize.
You can check the status of the Enterprise Resource Pool synchronization by returning to the Active Directory Enterprise Resource Pool Synchronization page and reviewing the information in the
Synchronization Status section. It contains information such as when the last successful synchronization occurred.  If last synchronization failed for any reason, it will also post a timestamp of when it occurred if you wanted to search
for more information in the ULS logs.
    Let us know the results.
You can find more information on AD sync at

  • Permissions needed for mobile account file sync

    Hello,
I have set up my account as mobile account in an AD domain.
When FileSync syncs the files automatically, then I often get errors as follows:

What permissions does FileSync need to work correctly?

SCOM Action account does not required to be local administator of agent machine
The action account is used to gather information about, and run responses on, the managed computer (a managed computer being either a management server or a computer with an agent installed). The MonitoringHost.exe processes run under the action account or

  • Mobile accounts not expiring

    Hi everyone,
We have all of our Macs (running 10.7) bound to AD through the native plugin. We have the AD plugin set to create mobile accounts. We create three local groups on each machine and add the equivilent AD groups to the local groups. For instance, we have a local group called Students which has the member DOMAIN\AD Students. We then use local managed preferences to launch a login script to map drives for these accounts, which works correctly based on group membership.
We've now set these same three local groups to have mobile account expiration. On a test machine, we set it to 2 days. We then logged in with a test account and rebooted, logged in again, and rebooted. After waiting all week, the account is still there (along with all of the other mobile accounts, but we don't know exactly when those students had logged in).
Is there any place to check where the last time a user logged in? Does our setup sound like it should even work?
    Thanks!
    -MRCUR

When logging in with an AD user, the "lastLoginTime" is not set on the mobile account. This seems to be the root cause of the accounts not expiring as expected, as the lastLoginTime is used to determine when the account should expire.
This unfortunately seems like expected behavior when using AD accounts as opposed to local or OD accounts.

  • Mobile accounts: Only sync with specific computers?

Is it possible to have a mobile account sync with the local computers only on selected machines?
Most of my users have a computer in their own offices, and I want those to be synched (and it works well with mobile accounts).
But when they go the labs, I don't want all their data (possibly a lot) to be copied, and if they could then behave as network accounts it would perfect.
    Is it possible?

if you configure mobile prefs to popup a dialog to confirm creating a mobile account on new machines, train them to choose "no," and they'll login with network homes on other machines.

  • LR Mobile does not sync star rating on initial sync

    Dear All!
    This is my usual workflow.
    1) I import photos on my desktop (Macintosh)
    2) I make a pre-selection of photos and start them with 2 stars.
    3) I filter all 2-star photos and add them to a collection
    4) I sync the new collection to my ipad (via the cloud).
    Issue:
When the photos "arrive" on the ipad they all have a rating of 0-stars.
to fix this I have to change the rating in Lightroom on my desktop (after they have initially synced) to the iPad.
This will sync all photos again and correct the star-ratings.
Is this a known issue and is Adobe working on this already?
    Thanks
    Albert

Please have a look at this thread (also for workarounds)...Re: Why are my ratings stars not syncing with Lightroom mobile?
Here is the note from one of our devs.
Unfortunately, my previous post was a bit optimistic.  Adding images in batches less than 100 will only work in certain narrow situations.  In many of the common scenarios that you're encountering based on your catalogs it will not.
I have fixed this issue in our code, but will continue to look for possible workarounds that will work on 5.5.

  • Windows Mobile 6 not syncing with Exchange Server / Error Code: 0x80072F06

Just got my Dopod 838 pro with Windows Mobile 6 installed. Having this problem when trying to sync with corp. Exchange server:
The ActiveSync circle on the phone turns yellow/brown, clicking the Error message it says:
The Security Certificate on the server is invalid, please contact Exchange Server Admin or ISP, to install valid certificate on the server.
    Support / Error Code: 0x80072F06
That's the problem. My phone doesn't have a Data Link connection problem as I am able to go online with it, also the company's Exchange Server is good, a few days ago I used my Windows Mobile 5 to sync with it without a problem. (but then I lost the phone)
    Can some one help? Thanks.

    Can u help me here?
I have a windows 6 mobile devices (all) that are having an issue connecting to my exchange server. I am pretty useful with certs but this one is baffling me. I have a windows 2003 sbs server. I recently created a san cer on the server and since then my Windows devices cannot synch. I belive I have setup correctly, or not?? Ther error and the steps are below...
    ERROR ON DEVICE:
The security certificate on the server is not valid.Contact your exchange server administrator or ISP to install a valid certificate on the server:
    support code: 0x80072f06
STEPS I USED TO CREATE SAN:
    1. Created certificate using article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931351/en-us
I added the following as SN:        MAIL.EXTERNAL.COM     (my external dns record for mail server)
And added the following for SAN: SERVER01                     (my mail server name )
                                                         SERVER01.INTERNAL.LOCAL  (my mail server fqdn)
    2. Exported Root CA cert and imported to my phone
    3. configured active synch to connect to mail.external.com on 443
I believe these are the correct steps. I would liked to have been able to export the SAN cert from IIS with private key and install on phone but the webserver template doesnt allow you to export private keys. I also cannot create a dubplicate webserver template to allow the export of the private key as you need enterprise edition of windows 2003 to do this.
So I am at the end of line I tried exporting the cert without the privtate key and importing it but still keep getting samer error.
Why of Why does it not like my cert?
I have just noticed now when I browse to the same address for OWA externally I am getting the error on my browser too even though I have the cert installed on my laptop
