Mobile backups not show up in time machine GUI

Mobile snapshots are missed in time machine GUI. So there is no white ticks on time line, except Current. It may be some kind of missing permissions on folder after update from Snow Leopard?
Current permissions is: drwxr-xr-x+    3 root  wheel       102 11 сен 09:59 .MobileBackups
I've checked this by doing: ls -al /
There are few snaphots with files inside .MobileBackups directory, I can access to files inside of it with sudo, but can't see it neither in /Volumes/MobileBackups nor in GUI.
Please help,
Thanks.

  • I would like to use time Machine to back up to a network SMB drive. I can see the drive on my desktop but it will not show in the time machine window to be able to select it

I currently have a mini server (OSX10.8.5, server 2.2.2) that I am using Time Machine to back up 4 external drives that are connected to the server via firewire 800. I would like to use Time Machine to back up to a windows network SMB drive. I can see the drive on my desktop but it will not show in the time machine window to be able to select it for use.
    Can this be done
Thanks for any and all help

The supported targets for Time Machine backups are local (direct-connected) disks, and network targets include Time Capsule, a disk hanging off the current-generation AirPort (though not earlier AirPort devices), and OS X Server systems.
The Time Machine storage is based on the HFS+ file system, so I would not expect TM to work with SMB file services.
While there are hacks to allow Time Machine to access network drives, I would not consider those to be reliable. Skim the forum and the 'net for related details, and for previous discussions of setting this up and the related issues that can arise.
Remember to test the recovery with whatever you decide to use; whole point of backups is the ability to restore the data, after all.

  • External drive does not show up in Time Machine

I just applied the lastest update today and now my external drive does not show up in Time Machine. It does show up in Finder.

Gracias Sir Kappy, These instructions didn't include Yosemite, but I followed the closest and used Mavericks instructions and the command-R was the key, which I suppose means 'restore?' Nothing is explained as we should all be able to read the programmers minds by now...
Thanks for the help and problem resolved.

  • Third party email (Postbox) does not show up in time machine backup.

I am running Time Machine under Mavericks. When I looked at my Time Machine Backup files, I could not find the mail boxes in the appropriate Application support folder. It should be under Library/Application Support/Postbox/Profiles.... Any ideas on where it really is or if it is even getting backed up. I am also running Carbonite and have my POP mail accts getting backed up. Please don't tell me I should have my email set up as a IMAP. I tried to go that route and after three weeks of dealing with my provider (and level 3 support) they informed me they could set it up for me for another $50.
    Thanking everyone in advance.
    Paul

If you're looking in the Library folder at the top level of the startup volume, that's the wrong folder. The user Library folder is invisible in the Finder.
Open the Library folder in your home folder by holding down the option key and selecting
              Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. Navigate in the usual way to the folder indicated above. Enter Time Machine and see whether the files are present in the snapshots.

  • Hard disc not showing up in time machine

Since upgrading to Lion, one of my hard disks is not showing up in the options window. I do not want to exclude it, or this would not be a problem. Because it does not show up here it is not being backed up. How can I get it to appear here, and any suggestions as to why it is not showing up when my other three do? It is formatted OSX extended Journaled and I have another identical drive that shows up, (another LaCie 1TB Drive).

I set up my TC and installed Airport Utility on two PCs running Windows XP. On the first machine, the hard disk didn't show up, but on the second PC it showed up automatically mapped to Z:\. To fix this problem, I just opened the Airport Utility on the problem PC and looked up the IP address of the TC. I typed in the URL based on the IP address and it came up fine as \\10.0.0.1 showing another folder called 'Time Capsule'. You can easily map a drive to this folder by going to the start menu, right-click on My Computer, and select map network drive.

  • Why is a network share not showing up in time machine settings when on the wifi?

    Hi all,
I am currently trying to set up time machine for my Macbook air. I have connected an external harddrive to the network router and made it available as a network share. I have both read and write access to the drive, when mounted as a an SMB volume and while connect to the network via Wifi. However, when opening time machine settings and trying to select the backup volume, the network drive doesn't show up.
    What's wrong?
    Kind regards,
    Martin

Time Machine cannot backup to a SMB network volume.
Time Machine may also have problems backing up to AFP volumes on some network attached storage devices (NAS).

  • External Drive not showing up on Time Machine

I bought a seagate external Drive to backup my Mac through Time Machine. It said it's Mac compatible in the box...
Now it doesn't show up when I try to choose a drive at Time Machine...

Ok, already solved it. I had to Reformat the Drive for a MAC format.

  • Why is my time capsule back up history not showing up in Time machine when it is doing its back up as normal?

When i enter into time machine it only shows now and today but no previous dates, yet on preferences it shows the oldest back up in March 2009 and the latest backup, and the time of the next backup

Did Apple repair it? I would be surprised if they did anything but test and found it ok.
Are you using wireless to connect? If so plug it in by ethernet.
Move it close to the computer and do the setup by direct ethernet connection.
You may have to reset it even by ethernet for the computer to pick it up, depending on the mode the TC is setup in.

It's possible (just a guess on my part) that the actual emails are still on the server and not on you machine. With the email program, only email you specifically store in "On My Mac" are on your computer. The rest are still on the server unless you have deleted them.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message that corresponds to a failed backup. Now
CLEAR THE WORD "Starting" FROM THE TEXT FIELD
so that all messages are showning, and scroll back in the log to the time you noted. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If all you see are messages that contain the word "Starting," you didn't clear the text field.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • Recovering Notes and Reminders from Time Machine Backup

There doesn't seem to be any consistency for how Time Machine recovery works with apps.  With some apps, like mail, if you're in mail when you enter Time Machine, you actually see your old (backed-up) versions of mail from which you can simply recover an email message.  I just upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion and Notes and Reminders are now their own apps.  If I open Time Machine with either Notes or Reminders on the screen, TM opens with a Finder window.  Is there any way to recover individual Notes or Reminders (as in mail) through TM?  Or, is there a way to recover an entire Notes database from TM?
    Thanks,
    John

First run Time Machine to make a current backup of all your files.
Next, make a backup of your current notes by mailing them to yourself.
    Then backup Reminders using
         Reminders > File > Export...
To restore Notes and Reminders from Time Machine:
    - Login to iCloud.com.
    - Notes.
    - Mail each note to yourself as a backup.
    - Quit iCloud.
    - Reminders > File > Export...
    - Turn off wi-fi.
    - Quit Notes.
    - Option-Go > Library > Containers .
    - Enter Time Machine.
    - Select a date.
    - Restore com.apple.notes .
    - Restore com.apple.reminders .
    - Start Notes.
    - Start Reminders.
    - Turn on wi-fi.

  • Getting this error: Time Machine completed a verification of your backups. To improve reliability, Time Machine must create a new backup for you.

I keep getting this error on my new Macbook Pro w/ Retina.
"Time Machine completed a verification of your backups. To improve reliability, Time Machine must create a new backup for you."
Connected to a wifi network and QNAP storage system.  There are 5 computers on this network, and each backs up just fine.  The issue is isolated to this one machine.
This error shows up every week or so.

A third-party NAS is unsuitable for use with Time Machine, especially if it's your only backup. I know this isn't the answer you want. I know Time Machine accepts the NAS as a backup destination. I know that the manufacturer says the device will work with Time Machine, and I also know that it usually seems to work. Except when you try to restore, and find that you can't.
Apple has published a specification for network devices that work with Time Machine. None of the third-party NAS vendors, as far as I know, meets that specification. They all use the incomplete, obsolete Netatalk implementation of Apple Filing Protocol.
If you want network backup, use as the destination either an Apple Time Capsule or an external storage device connected to another Mac or to an 802.11ac AirPort base station. Only the 802.11ac base stations support Time Machine, not any older model.
Otherwise, don't use Time Machine at all. There are other ways to back up, though none of them is anywhere near as efficient or as well integrated with OS X. I don't have a specific recommendation.
If you're determined to keep using the NAS with Time Machine, your only recourse for any problems that result is to the manufacturer (which will blame Apple, or you, or anyone but itself.)

  • Backups not showing up on Air Disk

I have a USB hard drive attached to an Airport Extreme (Gigabit). I deleted the old TM backups that were made when the disk was attached to my Mac directly. I did not rename the volume. If I enter Time Machine, I can only see what is current. No matter where I am looking, TM comes up and changes to the Computer view. If I mount the TM sparse image and browse through it, I can see the backups there, but they never show up in the Time Machine interface. How can I fix that?
It mounts the sparse image when it needs to do a backup. It umounts it when it is done. It never attempts to mount it when I want to browse through it.
Update: I started a backup and let it mount the sparse image. While the backup was in progress, I entered the Time Machine interface. It still only shows what is current.

I have precisely the same problem!
Unfortunately, I have no idea why it is like this.
My time machine was able to browse through previous backups initially. But after I deleted and reset my backups and installed the latest time machine updates, I noticed the behavior changed. For one thing, time machine used to just use a folder, without having to point an image. I can speculate that perhaps the time machine updates changed the backup system to use images, and the time machine program was not modified to reflect this - but I don't really have the means to verify it.
    Help, anyone?
